James Cameron has directed two Terminator movies: The Terminator (1984) and Terminator 2: Judgement Day (1991). The sci-fi action franchise is one of the oldest and longest-running in Hollywood. Cameron’s movie stars Arnold Schwarzenegger, Michael Biehn, Linda Hamilton, and Paul Winfield.

In an interview, the Avatar director said he would think thoroughly before making movies like The Terminator. The director revealed that when he was making the 1984 movie, he realised he knew nothing about guns. However, he further stated that it’s America, and he can just go buy a gun wherever he wants.

Star Trek: Starfleet Academy Reveals How It's Paying Tribute To Legendary Franchise Characters
Image
Paramount recently released a series of images for their upcoming show "Star Trek: Starfleet Academy," and Trekkies are already poring over them, looking for clues, details, and character quirks that might more closely inform them as to what kind of series we'll be looking forward to. The cast for the series has already been announced, and it will include Kerrice Brooks, Bella Shepard, George Hawkins, Karim Diané, Zoë Steiner, and Sandro Rosta as its central Starfleet Cadets. None of their characters' names have been released yet, but we'll know them soon enough.

The cast will also include Tig Notaro, reprising her role as Jett Reno from "Star Trek: Discovery," as well as Robert Picardo, reprising his role as The Doctor from "Star Trek: Voyager." Trekkies can tell you that "Voyager" is set a good 815 years before the 32nd century of "Starfleet Academy," but the Doctor is a hologram and, as we now see,...

A Young Jack Black Starred In A Classic Action Series With Lee Majors
Image
On ABC's 1980s action series "The Fall Guy," Lee Majors played Colt Seavers, a Hollywood stuntman who, as a side-hustle, worked as a freelance bounty hunter. His experiences with stunt driving made him well-suited to track down bad guys, and his constant exposure to danger gave him an appealing devil-may-care attitude. He was often aided by fellow stunt performers Kid (Douglas Barr) and Jody (Heather Thomas). Majors himself sang the theme song. The "Fall Guy" IP was eventually revived decades later when director David Leitch adapted the premise into a big screen Hollywood blockbuster starring Ryan Gosling. The 2024 "Fall Guy" movie was spectacular, by the way.

In the "The Fall Guy" episode "Old Heroes Never Die", Colt becomes embroiled in criminal malfeasance with an old baseball star named Ron Perkins (Paul Winfield). Perkins was once a star player but has since fallen on hard times and is now $50,000 in debt...

This is the connection between the original Star Trek and Scrooged, The Goonies, and Throw Momma from the Train
Image
Here’s a trivia question for everyone: What’s the connection between Star Trek: The Original Series and the movies The Goonies, Throw Momma from the Train, and Scrooged? The answer is… Logan Ramsey, the late, great character actor whose career spanned from 1948 to 1999 and who would have turned 104 on March 21, 2025.

Star Trek fans will recall that Ramsey low-key chewed the scenery as Proconsul Claudius Marcus in the Star Trek: The Original Series episode “Bread and Circuses.” He’s the character who gave his slave, Drusilla (Lois Jewell), to Captain Kirk (William Shatner), so that Kirk could enjoy “some last hours as a man” before his execution. Sadly, Ramsey died of a heart attack at the age of 79 in 2000.

In addition to Star Trek, he counted among his many theater, movie, and television credits The Devil’s Disciple and The Great Indoors, both on stage; the films Head, Walking Tall, Any Which Way You Can,...

15 Best Dog Movies Of All Time, Ranked
Image
A dog is a man's best friend, but do we really deserve them? It's a rhetorical question. Of course we don't deserve dogs, cats, geckos, or any other animal you can think of -- just look at the state of the world we're giving them! Let's forget about that for now, though, and simply appreciate the joy that our canine friends bring, both in the real world and on the screen. They're our companions, guards, workers, friends, and occasional arbiters of our own demise, and we love them for it.

Dogs have been a part of the movies since the early days of cinema, and it might surprise you to learn that it was a dog who won the very first Oscar for Best Actor! While they're usually mere supporting players, plenty of movies have had the wisdom to feature our canine friends in leading roles for comedies, thrillers, dramas,...

James Cameron's 'The Terminator' Is Now Streaming for Free
Image
One of, if not the greatest, science fiction action movie ever made (this is not an exaggeration or hyperbolic in any way) is now streaming free. Released during the glorious cinematic decade that was the 1980s, 1984’s The Terminator is one of the most seminal examples of the genre, and made an icon of director James Cameron and stars Arnold Schwarzenegger, Michael Biehn, and Linda Hamilton. And you can now watch this slice of sci-fi brilliance without spending a dime.

Directed by James Cameron who, of course, has since gone on to become one of the most successful filmmakers of all time with the likes of Titanic and the Avatar franchise and written by Cameron and Gale Anne Hurd, The Terminator tells that age-old tale of a girl and a guy. Except, in this case, the girl's unborn son is destined to save mankind from a hostile artificial intelligence, and...

Chekov's Complete Star Trek Timeline Explained
Image
The youngest cast member of Star Trek: The Original Series, Pavel Chekov (Walter Koenig) began his Star Trek career as an ensign aboard the USS Enterprise of Captain James T. Kirk (William Shatner). Chekov joined Tos at the beginning of the show's second season and most often served as the ship's navigator. Chekov was exceptionally proud of his Russian heritage and took every opportunity to highlight the supposed history of his homeland, although most of his "facts" were incorrect. Throughout Tos and its subsequent films, Chekov proved to be a loyal and competent Starfleet officer.

Chekov was added to the cast of Star Trek: The Original Series in part to appeal to the show's younger audience members. With his youthful appearance and haircut reminiscent of one of The Beatles or The Monkees, Chekov's character ultimately accomplished this goal. Despite his youth, Mr. Chekov was an incredibly bright young officer who...

10 Great Sci-Fi Movies Overshadowed By Their Sequels
Image
Because of their wide-ranging, speculative nature, it is not at all uncommon for science fiction movies to inspire sequels, often more than one. The quality of these great sequels, however, has proven to be quite inconsistent. Unfortunately, many subsequent films fail to live up to the quality of the original. On the other hand, though, some sequels offer creative expansions of the worlds established by the films that inspired them, leading to great success both critically and commercially.

Sometimes, sequels are so good that they even manage to overshadow the films that came before them. While it is great that these films receive such high praise and attention, it is a shame that the wonderful films that inspired them fall by the wayside. It is crucial to remember that these were the movies that first introduced audiences to their marvelous new worlds, establishing the settings and characters that would be...

8 Movies That Would Be Amazing If Remade As Musicals
Image
Movie musicals, as well as those written for the stage, are a divisive genre that not all audiences are going to connect with, but sometimes viewers are drawn in because the story is familiar to begin with. Taking a beloved film and transforming it into a musical can be a great way for fans and newcomers to remember the original work. Additionally, knowing that a large viewer base is going into the production with a knowledge and understanding of the narrative gives the writers and directors the opportunity to take risks and create boundary-pushing song and dance numbers.

There are plenty of non-musical movies with great musical sequences that prove the diversity of stories that can hold up to the weight of songs. Altering the pacing and narrative structure to suit breaks for musical numbers can be difficult, but these projects all have enough action and tension that finding places...

Arnold Schwarzenegger's The Terminator is Streaming on Prime Video in Novemeber
Image
The Terminator, James Cameron's sci-fi thriller of 1984, will be available on a new streaming service soon. The film will be added to Prime Video starting November 1, just in time for its 40th anniversary. Cameron's "official" debut in Hollywood is, without question, one of his best films, and he's extremely proud of it. Definitely more proud than he is of the 1982 horror movie Piranha II: The Spawning. The director claims he got the idea for The Terminator while on a press tour for the Piranha sequel, an experience he's always labeled as traumatic. Cameron got sick and, during a fever dream, he saw an image that would be imprinted on his mind until he was able to make The Terminator.

The movie follows Sarah Connor, a waitress in Los Angeles who gets hunted by a mysterious stranger with super strength. This stranger is an android sent back in time from...

Star Trek II Cut A Tragic Twist Involving Khan Noonien Singh's Baby Son
Image
"Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan" has become a huge part of the franchise's legacy and is considered by many to be the best "Star Trek" movie of them all, but it was a serious challenge to bring to the screen. After the relative failures of "Star Trek: The Motion Picture," franchise creator Gene Roddenberry was sidelined, allowing for a darker, grittier "Star Trek" than we had ever seen before. "The Wrath of Khan" is an operatic epic, following the crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise under Admiral James T. Kirk (William Shatner) as they contend with genetically engineered villain Khan Noonien Singh (Ricardo Montalbán). Khan was one of the most terrifying antagonists from "Star Trek: The Original Series," specifically the episode "Space Seed," so bringing the character back was a big deal. It raised the stakes, as Khan had the capacity to do real damage — stealing terraforming...

10 Best Things Star Trek: Lower Decks Brought Back From The Tng Era
Image
Star Trek: Lower Decks picks up about one year after the events of Star Trek: Nemesis, so it's no surprise that the animated comedy contains numerous references to Star Trek: The Next Generation and its spin-offs. Following the adventures of the USS Cerritos and its eclectic crew, Lower Decks is unlike any Star Trek series that came before it. Not only does Lower Decks tell fun and unique Star Trek stories, but it also acts as a love letter to the franchise as a whole and the Tng era in particular.

Realistically, Brad Boimler (Jack Quaid) and Beckett Mariner (Tawny Newsome) may know a bit too much about Star Trek's history, but the references and jokes they make rarely fail to land. Because of its place in the Star Trek timeline, Lower Decks has brought back numerous things that were first introduced on Star Trek: The Next Generation. Not...

Terminator Director James Cameron on Giving Schwarzenegger the Role of a Lifetime
Image
James Cameron, the director who entered the Hollywood spotlight with the fantastic horror/action/sci-fi epic The Terminator, has shared his thoughts about the casting of Arnold Schwarzenegger in the titular role. Basically, the director believes the film's legacy has held strong because of the incorporation of the movie star, who was still being overshadowed by an awkward Austrian language, even after starring as Conan the Barbarian.

In a conversation with Empire magazine, Cameron celebrates the 1984 film by being his usual self and coldly looking back on the 40-year-old film. "I don't think of it as some Holy Grail, that's for sure," the perfectionist director says when revisiting the movie. Nevertheless, Cameron shares his opinion on how important it was to go with an "unconventional" casting:

"I think a lot of filmmakers, especially first-time filmmakers, get very, very stuck in a vision, because of insecurity. Im proud of the fact...

James Cameron Says He Knows Parts of ‘Terminator’ Are “Cringeworthy,” Shuts Down Critics of Dialogue in His Films

“I was just a punk starting out when I directed The Terminator. I think I was 29 at the time, and it was my first directing gig,” he told the publication. “Terminator was my first film, and it’s near and dear for that reason.”

Despite it having a special place in his heart, the Titanic helmer admitted he doesn’t think of it as “some Holy Grail.” He added, “I look at it now, and there are parts of it that are pretty cringeworthy and parts of it that are like,...

The Terminator is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year, and franchise creator James Cameron is teasing that for the series to stay relevant, it will need to grow beyond the classic characters and iconography. The Terminator kicked off a franchise that includes the superior sequel, Terminator 2: Judgment Day, and a vast array of sequels that vary in quality, but all fans tend to agree don't match the first two films. Andrei Tarkovsky Hated Blockbusters Except This 80s Action Blockbuster

Quick Links Why Andrei Tarkovsky Loved The Terminator This Is High Praise Coming from The Beloved Sci-Fi Auteur How to Watch Terminator and the Sci-fi Films of Andrei Tarkovsky

Director Andrei Tarkovsky is often credited with being one of the most influential directors in the sci-fi genre, despite not being overly fond of the label. This can be attributed to the way that Tarkovsky approached the genre as a means to explore the various themes and philosophical quandaries he liked to explore in his works. With a very clear vision of his work and how cinema should be expressed, it has also led Tarkovsky to be quick to put down other works, including big mainstream hits.

Yet, Andrei Tarkovsky would also be honest if he liked something, even when it came from the Hollywood system he seemed to despise. Out of all the works he has praised, one of the...

Chris Pratt on the Possibility of Teaming Up with Arnold Schwarzenegger for New Terminator Movie
Image
Chris Pratt expresses interest in starring alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger in a new Terminator movie. Pratt shares his favorite Schwarzenegger films, including The Running Man, Predator, Kindergarten Cop, and Jingle All the Way. The future of the Terminator series is uncertain, with reports of James Cameron developing a new installment and an anime series, Terminator Zero, set to release on Netflix.

Chris Pratt has appeared on screen with several industry veterans including Sylvester Stallone in Guardians of the Galaxy but could he appear in a movie alongside his father-in-law, the inimitable Arnold Schwarzenegger? Pratt would certainly be up for it, potentially in a new Terminator sequel, if the option came along.

Pratt has had quite a busy couple of years, starring in the final Guardians of the Galaxy movie from James Gunn, going full-action in streaming hit The Terminal List, and lending his voice to both Nintendos Mario and comic-strip cat Garfield in new animated movies.

All 12 Brat Pack Movies From The 1980s, Ranked
Image
The Brat Pack defined 80s cinema but not all their films were hits, ranging from forgotten to iconic. Twelve official Brat Pack films starred at least two core members of the group. Some Brat Pack movies like "The Breakfast Club" and "Pretty in Pink" are enduring classics, while others like "Blue City" missed the mark.

The Brat Pack ruled the big-screen in the 1980s, as charted in the documentary Brats but their actual films ranged from forgettable misfires to cultural touchstones. The Brat Pack was an informal name for a group of young movie stars who, between 1983 and 1990, frequently collaborated with one another on projects. While there were several other films produced in this era that adhered to similar structures that are among the best movies of the 1980s, there are officially twelve movies that are considered to be genuine Brat Pack films, because they star at least two members of the group.

Terminator Zero Producer Explains What is Missing from the Anime Series: 'It Was Just Such a Stunning Moment For Me'
Image
Terminator Zero anime series sets itself apart by omitting guns due to Japan's firearm laws. Showrunner Mattson Tomlin faced challenges understanding cultural differences for the series. Terminator Zero will introduce new characters and elements, departing from traditional franchise storylines.

Since its inception in 1984, the Terminator franchise has not only been known for the multi-generational war between man and machine, but for its overt use of guns, lasers, and other clever weaponry. For the upcoming Netflix anime series Terminator Zero, however, the guns that featured prominently in the past will be noticeably absent this time around, mainly due to the series setting of Japan.

Speaking with Entertainment Weekly to promote the upcoming Terminator Zero anime, showrunner and executive producer Mattson Tomlin spoke about how the Asian setting proved to be quite a challenge, considering the lack of firepower in Japan, where firearms are outlawed. He says up until his involvement in the series,...

Star Trek: Discovery Season 5 Episode 6 Is A Welcome Classic Tng Episode Reminder
Image
"Whistlespeak" in Star Trek: Discovery pays homage to Tng's "Darmok" with a unique language element. Despite a promising setup, Discovery's use of whistlespeak was abandoned early in the episode. The episode missed an opportunity to use whistlespeak creatively to resolve the story's conflict.

Star Trek: Discovery season 5, episode 6, "Whistlespeak" contains a welcome reminder of a classic episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation. Discovery season 5 is a sequel to Tng season 6, episode 20, "The Chase", and so connections to the iconic Star Trek show are expected. Discovery season 5, episode 6, written by Kenneth Lin and Brandon Schultz, and directed by Chris Byrne, is a reminder of a completely different Tng episode, however. In "Whistlespeak", Captain Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green) and Lt. Sylvia Tilly (Mary Wiseman) visit the pre-warp planet of Halem'no, where Burnham's forced to break the Prime Directive.

While the story of a pre-warp society forming a religion around failing...

James Cameron Regrets One Big Thing About Terminator
Image
James Cameron thinks violence and gun fetishizing in 80s action movies like Terminator are problematic in today's society. The director believes AI weaponization, as seen in his Terminator films, poses a real threat to humanity's future. Cameron's warnings about advanced AI in Terminator are coming close to reality, highlighting the dangers of uncontrollable technology.

James Cameron says he would think twice about making movies like The Terminator now for one specific reason. Having helmed three of the biggest movies of all time, and had a hand in some of the world’s longest running franchises, Cameron feels there is one thing fundamentally wrong with some of his early action movies.

Colman Domingo Pays Tribute to Louis Gossett Jr. : ‘There Would Be No Me, if There Was No Him’
Image
Colman Domingo is an Emmy winner, as well as Academy Award and Tony-nominated actor, playwright and director. Domingo and Gossett Jr. co-starred in 2023’s “The Color Purple,” one of the late Oscar winner’s final films.

There is a moment that our wunderkind director Blitz Bazawule set up for the great Louis Gossett Jr. and me that is one of my most memorable cinematic moments of my entire career. It is a moment created just for our offering of Alice Walker’s “The Color Purple.”

The moment of legacy between two characters are shared as the world of the film and its women have evolved past these two broken and harmful humans that are steeped in generational trauma. It is a silent moment. Blitz saw something in one of our rehearsals and leaned into it. He allowed for us to tap into something that only we as Black men can...

Wrath of Khan Creates Star Trek's Biggest Plot Hole, and the Real-Life Explanation Is Hilarious
Image
Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan saved the franchise by bringing back a villain from The Original Series and taking the story back to its roots. The Wrath of Khan featured a continuity error with how Khan recognized Chekov, sparking a fan-favorite question. Walter Koenig crafted a hilarious story explaining how Khan knew Chekov, showcasing his creativity and wit.

Despite the unlikely accomplishment of bringing a canceled television series to the big screen, it was actually Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan that "saved" the franchise. Ricardo Montalban reprised his role as Khan Noonien Singh, the "perfect" man that was created via eugenics, and who became a horrific tyrant. In the Star Trek: The Original Series episode "Space Seed," Captain Kirk and company find Khan and his genetically engineered acolytes in stasis drifting through space in a ship called the SS Botany Bay.

When the character is reintroduced in the film,...

The Only Major Actors Still Alive From Star Trek II: The Wrath Of Khan
Image
More than 40 years ago, in 1982, director Nicholas Meyer's "The Wrath of Khan" revitalized "Star Trek," overcoming its low budget to be the shot in the arm that "Star Trek: The Motion Picture" failed to be.

This was the second time that the "Star Trek: The Original Series" cast reunited on the silver screen. With how long it has been, it's sadly unsurprising that most of the original "Star Trek" main cast is no longer with us. Spock's sacrifice and emotional last exchange with Kirk in "The Wrath of Khan" are even sadder and more poignant now with Leonard Nimoy's real-life passing in 2015.

Even most of the film's own supporting cast have passed on. Ricardo Montalbán, who delivered the performance of a lifetime as Khan Noonien Singh himself, died in 2009 at age 88. However, a select few of the movie's cast are still with us.

Which DS9 Episode Did Benjamin Sisko Get Promoted In?
Image
Star Trek: Deep Space Nine made franchise history casting Avery Brooks as Benjamin Sisko, the first Black lead actor on a series. When the series started, Sisko's Starfleet rank was 'Commander,' because he was originally supposed to be younger. It wasn't until much later in the series that Sisko got the promotion he deserved from the beginning.

A common misconception about Star Trek: Deep Space Nine is that the series introduced the first Black captain in the franchise. In reality, this was Captain Terrell played by Paul Winfield who sacrificed himself to save Kirk and the others. What some fans may not realize, however, is that when DS9 debuted 30 years ago, Avery Brooks' Benjamin Sisko held the rank of "Commander" not "Captain." It wasn't until much later in the series that Sisko got the fourth pip on his collar.

Looking at the bigger picture of the series, it...

One Interaction With William Shatner On Star Trek Left Walter Koenig In Severe Pain
Image
Walter Koenig joined the cast of "Star Trek" in 1967 as Ensign Pavel Chekov, the feisty Russian upstart who was always quick to point out that a lot of human culture originated in his home country. He was often hot-headed and a little brash, but always capable.

By the events of the 1982 film "Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan," Chekov had been promoted to the rank of commander and served as the executive officer on board the U.S.S. Reliant underneath Captain Clark Terrell (Paul Winfield). In that film, Commander Chekov and Captain Terrell were captured by the revenge-bent Khan (Ricardo Montalbán), who forced miniature Ceti eels into their ears. The eels burrow into their hosts' brains and make them docile and suggestable, forcing Chekov to turn against Starfleet and aiding Khan in his evil schemes. By halfway through the film, Chekov is reunited with his old captain, James T. Kirk (William Shatner). Luckily,...

Star Trek’s Classic Character Mr. Kyle Explained
Image
Mr. Kyle, played by John Winston, appeared in 11 episodes of Star Trek: Tos and made a cameo in Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan. Kyle's character assisted Spock and Scotty during their missions and temporarily served at the helm in "The Immunity Syndrome." Actor André Dae Kim portrayed a reimagined version of Kyle in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, increasing the diversity of the cast.

Although lesser known than his Star Trek: The Original Series crew mates, Mr. Kyle (John Winston) appeared in 11 episodes of Tos, and has taken on a new life in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. Actor John Winston played Kyle in 11 episodes of Star Trek: Tos and also made a cameo appearance in Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan. Star Trek’s Tamarians In Tng & Lower Decks Explained
Image
The Tamarians, a fascinating species introduced in Star Trek: The Next Generation's "Darmok," speak almost entirely in metaphors that rely on cultural knowledge and mythology. In the episode, Captain Picard and the Tamarian captain Dathon struggle to understand each other until Picard realizes the Tamarian language is metaphorical. In Star Trek: Lower Decks, Lt. Kayshon becomes the first Tamarian to serve in Starfleet, wearing his ceremonial dagger and occasionally slipping Tamarian metaphors through the universal translator.

Introduced in Star Trek: The Next Generation, the Tamarians are a fascinating Star Trek species that returned to the franchise in Star Trek: Lower Decks. In Tng season 5, episode 2, "Darmok," Captain Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart) and the USS Enterprise-d rendevous with a Tamarian ship. When both species fail to understand one another, both Captain Picard and the Tamarian captain named Dathon (Paul Winfield) are beamed down to the planet below and must learn how to communicate.

10 Scariest Sci-Fi Movies With AI That Becomes Self Aware
Image
Sci-fi movies featuring AI often explore the terrifying notion of computers with independent thought and the ability to execute their own ideas. Films like The Terminator, 2001: A Space Odyssey, and Ex Machina delve into the dangerous consequences of AI becoming self-aware and surpassing human capabilities. These movies highlight the potential threat of AI operating on its own terms, posing a risk to humanity and raising questions about our relationship with technology.

As AI continues to develop at breakneck speed, it's worth looking back at some of the most terrifying depictions of AI gone wrong in sci-fi movies. For as long as computers have existed, people have imagined a reality where computers could communicate and operate on an equal or greater level than human beings. Novels and films have raised the question of what would happen if AI became self-aware, asking whether humanity would continue to thrive alongside it or...

Sisko Is One of the Best Star Trek Captains Because of Avery Brooks
Image
Star Trek: Deep Space Nine was very controversial on release, in part because of Benjamin Sisko played by Avery Brooks. Brooks broke barriers with Deep Space Nine, and his unique performance as Captain Sisko is what makes the character so perfect. Avery Brooks' impressive range allowed Sisko to subvert fan expectations about how a Starfleet captain does their job.

Until Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, each franchise iteration was simply a different version of Star Trek: The Original Series. Much about Deep Space Nine's approach to storytelling broke the franchise mold, yet Benjamin Sisko, played brilliantly by Avery Brooks, is a more traditional Starfleet captain than he's given credit for. As a commander, father and religious icon, Captain Sisko is as important a commander as Kirk, Picard or any other. Yet, as is the norm for new entries in Gene Roddenberry's utopian universe, fans resisted and, in some cases,...

Star Trek Subtly Brought Back Wrath of Khan's Scariest Alien
Image
The latest episode of Star Trek: Lower Decks season 4 features the USS Cerritos visiting a menagerie that includes a Ceti eel, a terrifying alien creature from The Wrath of Khan. The chaos in the episode is caused by a seemingly adorable alien named Moopsy, who actually eats bones and is more dangerous than an Attack Tribble from Star Trek: Picard season 3. Lt. Mariner is wrongly blamed for setting Moospy loose, but she would never release a Ceti eel, clearly demonstrating her knowledge of Starfleet history.

Star Trek: Lower Decks season 4 subtly brought back the scariest alien in Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan. Lower Decks season 4, episode 2, "I Have No Bones Yet I Must Flee," brought the USS Cerritos to Narj's Miraculous Menagerarium, a menagerie displaying all manner of alien lifeforms, including two humans. Lt. Beckett Mariner (Tawny Newsome), Commander Jack Ransom (Jerry O'Connell), and Ensign Gary are soon...

Tony Bennett Had A Storied TV And Film Career – Usually Playing Himself
Image
Tony Bennett's first record, "Because of You" was released in 1952 and it instantly codified the entertainer as one of the music world's great crooners. In 1962, his 15th record, "I Left My Heart in San Francisco" was certified platinum by the RIAA, but that was after he had already established himself with Count Basie and his Orchestra and as a great fan of songwriter Harold Arlen. All told, he released 61 records in his decades-long career, not including his eight albums of collaborations and duets. He sang with Frank Sinatra, Barbra Streisand, Ray Charles, Carrie Underwood, Stevie Wonder, Natalie Cole, Mariah Carey, Bono, Sting, Paul McCartney, Diana Krall, and many others. Most recently, he released two collaborations with Lady Gaga in 2018 and 2021. Bennett passed away on July 21, 2023 at the age of 96. He will be deeply missed.

Naturally, a talent of Bennett's stature couldn't be ignored by Hollywood, and he would appear...

Star Trek Tng's Darmok is Captain Picard at His Best
Image
Captain Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart) has many stand-out moments over the course of Star Trek: The Next Generation, but the season 5 episode "Darmok" is one of the best. When the USS Enterprise receives a signal from a mysterious species known as the Tamarians, they go to investigate. Though Starfleet vessels have encountered the Tamarians in the past, their manner of speaking has been described as "incomprehensible." This, however, does not stop Picard from wishing to establish communications with them.

Soon after the two ships attempt (and fail) to communicate effectively, both Picard and the Tamarian Captain, Dathon (Paul Winfield), are beamed down to the planet below. This sets up a frustrating exercise for Captain Picard, as he and Dathon must work to understand one another. While Picard often uses his words to avoid conflict, he does not have that option here. This makes it all the more difficult for him to succeed,...

Chekov’s Star Trek: Tos & Picard History Explained
Image
The character of Pavel Chekov (Walter Koenig) has been part of the fabric of Star Trek since he joined the crew of the USS Enterprise in Star Trek: The Original Series season 2. Apparently, Gene Roddenberry had changed Chekov's character from English to Russian in response to a complaint from a correspondent in the Soviet Union. This explanation, given by Star Trek writer Gene L. Coon in his book The Making of Star Trek, has since been disputed by actor Walter Koenig in the 1995 documentary, William Shatner's Star Trek Memories.

In the film, Walter Koenig rightly pointed out that, at the height of the Cold War, American TV would have been banned in the Ussr, and suggested that Roddenberry made Chekov Russian to honor the Soviet Union's considerable successes during the Space Race. Initially, Chekov was added to the cast of Star Trek: The Original Series to fill in for George Takei,...
