“Dexter: Original Sin” brings fans back to the serial killer they all know and (perhaps worth examining) love, but he’s wearing a different face this time around.

No, not literally. Dexter Morgan isn’t that kind of psychopath. He just has urges to kill people, and in the prequel series now streaming on Paramount+ with Showtime (premiering on-air on Showtime this Sunday), we see how he learns to deal with those urges, and implement the Code that his father creates for him to do it somewhat safely.

The Dexter prequel series, Dexter: Original Sin, is set to come out this week and we're so excited to learn more about the titular character's beginnings. Even though those are killer beginnings. The show stars Patrick Gibson as a young Dexter, and the Og one, Michael C. Hall, will be providing the voice of his inner thoughts. What a nice way to tie in the original actor to the prequel show!

The crime drama series Dexter originally aired on Showtime for eight seasons, from 2006 to 2013… and even though I had access to Showtime during those years, I completely missed out on it. The show was revived with a season called Dexter: New Blood in 2021, and now a prequel series called Dexter: Original Sin is set to begin airing on the Paramount+ streaming service as of this Friday, December 13th, with the Showtime premiere to follow on December 15th. With those dates nearly upon us, Showtime has shared a behind-the-scenes featurette, which can be seen in the embed above, as well as a clip from the show, which can be found at the bottom of this article.

We'd been led to believe that Dexter Morgan's story reached a definitive end when the serial killer was gunned down by his son in Dexter: New Blood. However, a newly released trailer for the upcoming prequel series, Dexter: Original Sin, reveals that he at least makes it to the hospital.

“Dexter: Original Sin” is rounding out its cast, adding Eli Sherman, London Thatcher and Sarah Kinsey to the prequel series, TheWrap can exclusively reveal.

Eli Sherman will play Dexter as a young child, meaning the series will officially bring together three different iterations of the serial killer; Patrick Gibson is of course leading the series as a young adult Dexter, and Og Dexter Morgan Michael C. Hall is returning to lend his voiceover to the series.

Sarah Kinsey will also be playing a familiar face to “Dexter” fans, as she’ll be taking over as Camilla Figg, Miami Metro’s file clerk, and one of Harry Morgan’s closest confidantes. Figg was played by Margo Martindale in the original series.

Meanwhile, London Thatcher will be playing Nicky Spencer, the son of Captain Aaron Spencer (Patrick Dempsey).

The Property Masters Guild (Pmg) announced the winners of the inaugural Pmg MacGuffin Awards, which is the only awards show to date celebrating the significant artistic achievements of Property Masters. The final season of the pilot series had Dexter Morgan (played by Michael C. Hall) fake his death in a hurricane to escape the growing suspicion of him being a serial killer. The character then escapes to a nearby town from Miami, picking up a new identity to hide from the law. This inspired a follow-up series called Dexter: New Blood (2021).

However, Paramount and Showtime are coming together to produce a new series that will reflect Dexter’s upbringing.

Dexter fans, get ready! The bloody origin story of the infamous serial killer is coming our way in just matter of months. Paramount+ has shared the release date of prequel series, Dexter: Original Sin. And honestly, it's actually closer than I initially thought it would be.

Dexter: Original Sin premieres Friday, Dec. 13, 2024 on Paramount+. If you'd rather skip the streaming option and watch on television instead, then you can tune in Sunday, Dec. 15, 2024 on Showtime. A linear premiere time has not been shared at this time. Though Showtime should share that closer to the release date.

Paramount+ also shared a teaser, which is the first video look into the crime drama. We've only gotten the first-look images so far. We've known that Grey's Anatomy star Patrick Dempsey joined the cast, but we haven't seen his look up until now. There's a glimpse of his character in the clip.

The Dexter: Original Sin teaser features the familiar voice of Michael C. Hall explaining that it takes a village to raise a killer. The teaser shows brief snippets of the younger versions of Dexter characters and ends with the reveal of the series’ premiere date.

Paramount+’s prequel to the Dexter franchise will debut on Friday, December 13, 2024 on Paramount+ with Showtime and December 15th on Showtime linear.

Patrick Gibson leads the cast as a young Dexter. Molly Brown plays his sister, Debra, and Christian Slater stars as their father, Harry. The 10-episode season also features Patrick Dempsey as Aaron Spencer, James Martinez as Angel Batista, Christina Milian as Maria Laguerta, Alex Shimizu as Vince Masuka, and Reno Wilson as Bobby Watt. Fans will finally learn vigilante serial killer Dexter Morgan's origin story in the prequel series Dexter: Original Sin. Paramount has set the official streaming premiere date for Friday, Dec. 13, 2024. That's when it'll be available on Paramount+. However, only Paramount+ with Showtime subscribers will be granted access. Then, two days later, on Sunday, Dec. 15, the show will have its on-air U.S. debut. Make sure to save these dates!

Dexter: Original Sin is an upcoming crime drama series produced by Showtime Studios and Counterpart Studios. Dexter: New Blood creator Clyde Phillips serves as showrunner and executive producer of the series. Other executive producers include Scott Reynolds (Jessica Jones), Michael C. Paramount+ with Showtime today revealed the premiere date and new teaser for the highly anticipated prequel Dexter: Original Sin. The series will premiere Friday, December 13, on streaming and on-demand for Paramount+ subscribers with the Paramount+ with Showtime plan before making its on-air US debut on Sunday, December 15.

Dexter: Original Sin is coming!

Dexter‘s prequel series will premiere on Sunday, December 15, and will also be available to stream two days earlier on Paramount+ With Showtime.

The series will follow the original show’s titular character during his teenage years.

The spinoff is set in the ’90s and is centered on a younger version of the serial killer character played by Michael C. Hall in the original series, who will narrate the show, as well as star in another spinoff, Dexter: Resurrection.

“I’m a killer but I wasn’t born this way; I was made,” TV’s original Dexter, Michael C. Hall, says in a voiceover in the clip. Hall will narrate the inner monologue inside the serial killer-in-training’s head in the prequel.

The teaser trailer really sets the vibe for Dexter’s origin story with all the funkiest elements of the 1990s from the music to the fashion, the furniture, and even the glorious mustache Patrick Dempsey is wearing. Showtime’s Dexter returned to San Diego Comic-Con on Friday night with a very special guest in tow, Michael C. Hall.

It’s not a Dexter Con without Dexter, and this evening there were two in attendance: Hall and Patrick Gibson, the latter of who plays the younger version of the former’s character in the prequel series Dexter: Original Sin. Hall serves as narrator of the 90s-set series, which will premiere in December.

Additionally, Hall will star in Dexter: Resurrection, a new series that is set in present day and is a followup to the 2021 Dexter: New Blood. It will launch in summer 2025.

“It’s pretty heady,” said Hall, after receiving a standing ovation in Ballroom 20. He’s also an EP on both series. “I’m having flashbacks of the first time I came to Comic-Con. We were in this hall. That was … 75 years ago? It’s amazing to still be alive.
