Centurion (2010) starring Michael Fassbender, features an interesting mix of fact and folklore, a historian reveals. Directed by Neil Marshall, the historical action film follows a small group of Roman soldiers in Northern Britain after their legion is destroyed by a brutal ambush. Fassbender leads the Centurion cast as Centurion Quintus Dias, with supporting cast members that include Olga Kurylenko, Dominic West, Andreas Wisniewski, and David Morrissey.

In a recent video for History Hit on Youtube, historian Tristan Hughes analyzes scenes from Centurion, revealing that the film is a personal favorite of his. Despite this, Hughes reveals that the film does feature some inaccuracies, particularly as it relates to the destruction of the Ninth Roman Legion, a story beat that lacks supporting archaeological evidence.

Everyone loves a good sword and sandal film, and Michael Fassbender has one that's coming to a major streaming platform in less than two weeks. Centurion, the historical action drama which Fassbender stars in alongside Dominic West, Olga Kurylenko, and Andreas Wisniewski, will officially begin streaming on Peacock on September 20. The film follows a splinter group of Roman soldiers who are fighting for their lives behind enemy lines after their legion is left in shambles after a guerilla attack. In addition to Fassbender, West, Kurylenko, and Wisniewski, Centurion also stars Dave Legendo, Axelle Carolyn, JJ Feild, and Lee Ross, and currently sits at a 60% score from critics and a 43% rating from general audiences on the aggregate site Rotten Tomatoes.

Intense throughout the film offers well executed action sequences and a flair for the imaginative in ninety-one minutes flat.

The boys over at Quietearth scored a the trailer for upcoming Brit horror Hush last week, now to complete the set, we’ve been given first look at the poster and news on the release date. The début film from writer and director Mark Tonderai (the ex Radio 1 and Kiss FM DJ), Hush stars Will Ash, Christine Bottomley, Claire Keelan, Stuart McQuarrie, Robbie Gee, Sheila Reid And Andreas Wisniewski. We’ve already seen it and have to say - considering it only cost £1 million to make, it’s a damn sight better than a lot of horror movies out there at the moment. This past week I played in a national softball tournament. It was my league's World Series. 4,000 or so athletes descended upon Seattle for five days of competition in six different divisions showcasing players of varying skill levels. Unfortunately, my time out on the field was cut incredibly short, my hamstring partially tearing during the fourth inning of our very first game left me both unbelievably ticked off as well as in an almost indescribable amount of pain. What does this have to do with the new Blu-ray release of Universal Pictures' The Scorpion King: Rise of a Warrior? Nothing, really, other than the fact watching this movie left me in even more pain than tearing my hamstring did. This movie isn't just bad, it's a torture test, and anyone that can make it from start to finish without wanting to shoot themselves is far more forgiving and even-tempered than I.

I know what you're thinking ... "What in the world is Dread Central reviewing this for?" honestly we almost didn't. The only reason that it even on the radar was because this franchise is the bastard son of the effects heavy Mummy movies. Even then though the original The Scorpion King was little more than a straight action movie with barely any super natural elements at all. The lack of creatures of any kind in the first film was ultimately it's downfall. It just deviated too far from the formula of made the Mummy flicks work. With The Scorpion King 2: Rise of a Warrior director Russell Mulcahy is out to correct that wrong and does so on a scale that's better than expected.
