Celebrating 40 years in Showbiz in 2024, it remains all remains a mystery how lucky I have been. I've done what I came here to do fresh out of film school hoping to be a producer. And after a lot of years, hard work, several nervous breakdowns, multiple failures and ultimately pure luck, I have managed to produce or be the exec in charge of over 100 films and over 200 TV episodes. I wound up owning the Reading Rainbow brand license with LeVar Burton for many years, produced a film with my screen hero Harrison Ford, Produced the most expensive film made at its time ($214m), Terminator 3 with Arnold, worked with everyone from Liam Neeson to Susan Sarandon to Jeff Bridges and so many more. I wrote and directed 200 episodes of Reading Rainbow which included me writing and directing Joe and Jill Biden, Michelle Obama, so, wow! I've made films in Moscow, India, Bulgaria, Paris, London, Morocco, Panama, and Israel. Now I keep my hands somewhat dirty from the confines of my backyard as I volunteer as the Board President of California's State Dept of Developmental Disabilities and as part of that produce and write numerous animated video shorts that help the lives of 1 in every 100 Californians understand the rights afforded to them as disabled individuals. I still produce and develop things I am passionate about such as the upcoming Amazon series Replica and the adaptation to series of best selling books for mid-graders, The Curious League of Detectives and Thieves that I finally acquired after 10 years of trying! Stay tuned. Still married to my HS prom date and have two great, happily launched and thriving kids. Advice to people starting out in Show biz? Never give up its brutal but worth it. Hire a full time therapist, it's cheaper than by the hour.
