On Fire (2023)
Jeff Probst speaks about why Russell Hantz never won Survivor
On Fire (2023)
A new episode of the On Fire Podcast with Jeff Probst broached many topics this week.

Jeff discussed the fan request for a season with no challenges and later spoke about why there are fewer endurance challenges.

Co-host Jay Wolff and Survivor 47 winner Rachel Lamont were on hand for the podcast.

At one point, the chat shifted to what can impact whether or not a player wins Survivor, and that’s when Ruseel Hantz came up.

Russell first appeared on Survivor: Samoa and was invited back for Survivor: Heroes vs. Villains.

On Survivor: Samoa (Season 19), Russell was the runner-up to Natalie White after a 7-2 vote. He returned quickly for Survivor: Heroes vs. Villains (Season 20) and finished as the second runner-up to Sandra Diaz-Twine and Parvati Shallow.

Russell also returned for Survivor: Redemption Island (Season 22), finishing in 17th place that season. Boston Rob Mariano won, and Phillip Sheppard was the first runner-up.

On Fire (2023)
Survivor host Jeff Probst is against seasons with no advantages
On Fire (2023)
A new podcast episode of On Fire with Jeff Probst dropped this past week.

Jay Wolff is the co-host with Jeff, and Survivor 47 winner Rachel Lamont has also been in the studio.

Jeff, Jay, and Rachel discussed the latest episode that saw Sai Hughley and Cedrek McFadden voted out.

The merged tribe was split in two, leading to two separate Tribal Councils.

Sai got voted out unanimously at the first Tribal Council when Mitch Guerra blocked her vote. She became the final person voted out before the jury phase.

Cedrek became the first Survivor 48 jury member later that night when he was voted out 5-1 over Shauhin Davari.

Rachel spoke about the Safety Without Power advantage that saved her game. She is still thankful to Sol Yi.

Jeff used that as a segue to address fan requests about having a Survivor season without advantages.

“We should make that private”: It Took Jeff Probst 48 Seasons Of Survivor To Figure Out One Scene In The Show Was A Major Breach Of Privacy
Image
Survivor has been a cornerstone of reality competitive shows for over two decades now, with host Jeff Probst guiding contestants and viewers alike. Throughout these 25 years, the show has evolved with the times, adapting its format and tone across its 48 seasons.

But despite so many years on air, some elements of the show are still being re-evaluated. In a recent chit-chat, the host himself detailed that a key part of Survivor may have crossed a line when it comes to the privacy of the players.

Moreover, changes for the same are only now being implemented in the ongoing Season 48.

Tribal Council voting in Survivor was never truly private

Apart from being the golden crown of the CBS network, Survivor has also had its fair share of ups and downs. Whether it be Jeff Probst‘s infamous Hourglass Twist or Richard Hatch...

‘Survivor’: Jeff Probst Reacts to Shocking Elimination in Messy Tribal Council
Image
[Warning: The following contains Major spoilers for Survivor Season 48 Episode 2, “Humble Traits.”] “Spicy” Jeff Probst came out to play in the second tribal council of Survivor 48. The March 5 episode saw the Vula tribe back on the chopping block for the second time in a row, and tensions rose even higher between Sai Hughley and Mary Zheng after an episode full of disagreements between the two. Their teammates tried to capitalize on the conflict, but it backfired and resulted in a blindside. Probst, Season 47 winner Rachel Lamont, and Jay Wolff reacted to the surprising vote results and fiery pre-voting back-and-forth on the On Fire podcast aftershow. Survivor is a game of lying, and Sai did little to conceal her lies when it came to making amends with Mary after Stephanie Berger’s elimination in the premiere. Their relationship didn’t progress positively throughout the episode, leading Mary to believe that Sai’s comments in tribal council were about her.

Jeff Probst Stepping Down From Survivor Could Mean a 3-Season Veteran Gets Promoted as the Show’s First Female Host
Image
After hosting Survivor for more than 20 years, Jeff Probst has become almost synonymous with the show. He has played an important role in keeping the show popular, but as time passes, the reality is that he won’t be able to host forever. The host is currently 63 years old and has always maintained a healthy and active lifestyle. But the demanding job of hosting Survivor, especially in harsh conditions like the hot and challenging climates takes a physical toll.

‘Survivor’: Jeff Probst Confirms ‘It’s Not a Final Two’ in Season 47 Finale, But He’s Open to a Return
Image
Survivor typically has three players vying for jury votes in each season finale, but there have been a final two on occasion. Heading into this week’s Survivor Season 47 finale, Jeff Probst is eliminating speculation by confirming that there is no final two in the episode. The question came up on the On Fire podcast released on Wednesday, December 11 thanks to cohost Jay Wolff, who wondered about the possibility of a final two given this season’s extra episode. As explained earlier in the podcast, CBS asked Survivor to make 14 episodes for Season 47 instead of the usual 13 to accommodate changes in the network’s schedule. This resulted in Episodes 13 and 14 being billed as finale Parts 1 and 2 and coming in at two hours each. It also resulted in there being just four players left in Episode 14, whereas Survivor finales in recent years have always featured the final five. “Is there a...

‘Survivor’: Jeff Probst Admits He’s Had His ‘Feelings Hurt’ by Former Players’ Complaints
Image
[Warning: The following contains Major spoilers for Survivor Season 47 Episode 10.] Jeff Probst knows he represents “authority” in Survivor. That comes with being the host and showrunner of the long-running series. In his 47 seasons as host, he’s learned how to roll with the punches when contestants express disappointment, anger, the works after the seasons air, often because they don’t feel their scenes that made it into the final edit provide a fair picture of how they played the game. Still, Probst admits he’s had his “feelings hurt” when he sees players “talking trash” about him during and after the seasons air. He opened up about this in the November 20 episode of the On Fire podcast, the official Survivor aftershow. This topic came up when Probst and cohosts Charlie Davis and Jay Wolff discussed Teeny and Genevieve’s long, hard talk on the beach in Season 47 Episode 10 right after Sol’s blindside in the previous episode’s tribal council.

Image
[Warning: The following contains Major spoilers for the Survivor Season 47 Episode 5.] A new bombshell has entered the sanctuary. Survivor introduced a brand new twist in Season 47 Episode 5: The Survivor Social. It’s a trip to the sanctuary for the winners of the reward challenge, and the first “social” allowed players from different tribes to connect at the barbecue — something that doesn’t typically happen pre-merge. Jeff Probst explains the purpose of “The Survivor Social” in the latest episode of the On Fire podcast (listen in full below). Probst explained the new twist ahead of the challenge in Episode 5, saying that the three tribes would be divided into two just for that challenge and the winning combined team gets to celebrate together with a hot meal afterwards. They got to play cornhole as well. Probst explains to cohosts Jay Wolff and Charlie Davis in On Fire that this twist was implemented as an experiment to see how the...

‘Survivor’: Jeff Probst Calls This Idol Move Complete ‘Nonsense’
Image
[Warning: The following contains Major spoilers for Survivor Season 46 Episode 9.] Idol this, idol that. Jeff Probst says that promising to play an idol is a big nothing burger in Survivor. His comments come after Hunter was eliminated in Survivor Season 46 Episode 9 with an idol in his pocket, despite having sworn to other players that he was going to play it for himself in tribal council that night. Promises like this, Probst says, are complete “nonsense.” Probst revealed his feelings about idol promises in the On Fire podcast released after Episode 9 aired on CBS on April 24. He told his co-hosts, Survivor fan Jay Wolff and Season 45 winner Dee Valladares, that he knows as much about what players are going to do with their idols as fans: “Nothing.” As the host and showrunner, however, he knows “who has an idol for sure.” In his 20+ years with the show, one thing is certain: “It’s extremely rare when a player...

Jeff Probst Explains Why Past ‘Survivor’ Contestants Wouldn’t Be Allowed on Show Now

Jeff Probst says there are past players on Survivor who would never make it onto the show now. The host said in the April 11 episode of the On Fire podcast, the show’s official aftershow podcast, that this is the result of a changed culture, which he says is for the better. Probst was joined in the episode by co-host Jay Wolff and Survivor 45 winner Dee Valladares. The trio broke down Survivor Season 46 Episode 7, which aired on Wednesday, April 10 on CBS and featured a scene during which a contestant, Ben, had a panic attack in the middle of the night. Fellow contestant Kenzie supported him through it in a show of compassion and care. Probst said on On Fire that Ben had a psychological team on standby should he need assistance. Survivor Jeff Probst Won’t Budge When It Comes To Controversial Show Rule
Image
Currently in its 46th season, the Yanu tribe has hit an all-time low when it comes to loss and suffering, by losing the first four of their immunity challenges.

They’ve voted someone out of the tribe three times, and the fourth had a member medically evacuated.

As such, the tribe did not have flint for the first 11 days of the season. No flint equals out to no fire, and this is the longest time, since the “new era” began during Survivor 41, that a tribe has gone this long without flint.

Still, despite how hard it is to “survive” without fire on Survivor, it doesn’t look like this rule will change.

Survivor: Interesting Facts About ‘On Fire With Jeff Probst’ Podcast
Image
For the first time in its 44-season run, Survivor is launching an official podcast hosted by Jeff Probst, and it's time to share some facts about the new venture. A reality TV and pop culture icon, Probst has been hosting the series since its very first season in 2000. He also took on an executive producer role in the mid-2000s. Jeff is now considered to be the show's behind-the-scenes leader, with a hand in casting, creative, and everything in between.

Unlike many other popular shows in the modern era, the creators of the upcoming Survivor season 44 have yet to launch an official companion podcast. However, there are plenty of podcasts about the show. One of the most popular, Rob Has a Podcast, was launched by two-time player Rob Cesternino in 2010. It has branched into a network of reality TV coverage, but it isn't officially affiliated with Survivor or CBS.

‘Omghi’ Creators Will Miss Instant Gratification of Web Series When Feature Film Drops
