A Teen Titans movie is one of the most anticipated projects from James Gunn‘s new Dcu, and recently, the DC Studios co-head provided a major update on the project during an interaction with a fan on Threads. Gunn made the following comment replying to a fan:
Anything you’ve heard about that movie is made up or a guess.
Despite previously confirming that a Teen Titans-centric project was in development, the filmmaker’s comments have seemingly ruled out a major fan theory regarding the iconic team’s roster. Here is why Gunn might have killed a major Dcu theory and what that means for a Teen Titans movie.

The latest revealed DC Studios television project is a "Booster Gold" TV show from David Jenkins (creator of "Our Flag Means Death"), which has been ordered to pilot at HBO Max (per Deadline). Booster Gold (created by Dan Jurgens in 1986), aka Jon Michael Carter, is a time-traveling superhero from the future. Though he hails from the 25th century, his story is familiar: he's a jock who peaked in high school (being caught gambling on your own games will do that to you). So, he travels back in time in hope of becoming a big fish in a smaller pond.
Though Booster is dense and a self-promoting gloryhound, he's not a bad guy. He's similar to James Gunn's take on Peter Quill/Star-Lord and so should fit naturally into Gunn's new DC Universe if his pilot moves forward. "Booster Gold...

The Hollywood premiere of The Fantastic Four: First Steps was a real family affair... and not just for the cast members playing Marvel Comics' First Family in the new Marvel Studios blockbuster.
While the current super-quartet of of Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn and Ebon Moss-Bacharach were present and accounted for, an earlier version of the Ff also walked the blue carpet. Thanks to First Steps director Matt Shakman, the lead performers from legendary producer Roger Corman's ill-fated 1994 adaptation were on the guest list.
That famously never-released movie starred Alex Hyde-White and Rebecca Staab as team leaders Reed and Sue Richards aka Mr. Fantastic and the Invisible Woman (now played by Pascal and Kirby), Jay Underwood as Johnny Storm aka the Human Torch (now played by Quinn), and Michael Bailey-Smith as Ben Grimm aka The Thing (now played by Moss-Bacharach). All those actors also make cameos in First Steps.

Supermanhas just flown into theaters, but Mikaela Hoover is already thinking sequel. If it happens, she has some comics-inspired ideas about where she wants her character to go. Hoover, who stars as Daily Planet columnist Cat Grant in the James Gunn-helmed film, recently spoke with Perri Nemiroff for an upcoming episode of Collider Ladies Night while promoting the film, which opens in theaters worldwide this weekend. What Hoover wants to see in a sequel is a deepening of her character's relationship with David Corenswet's Clark Kent, the mild-mannered alter ego of Superman:
"I want to dig into how in the comics she is so obsessed with Clark in the best way. He stands for everything that she never had in her previous life back in Hollywood. I would really love to dig into that, and that relationship there, and more of her relationship to [Jimmy] and [Steve]. I mean, all of it.

Comic book legend Jim Shooter died on June 30, 2025, at the age of 73. Primarily a writer/editor, Shooter's career was incredible ... right from his, to use the superhero phrase, secret origin.
Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Shooter started writing for DC Comics (then officially known as National) at age 14. He sent in some stories about Superman and the Legion of Superheroes, and soon DC editor Mort Weisinger not only bought them, but he also hired Shooter to write the Legion's adventures full-time. How did Shooter work up the courage to submit stories when he wasn't even out of high school? It wasn't whimsy, it was desperation; he and his family were living in poverty and he thought writing comics would be an easy way to get them some needed extra cash.
To prepare himself, Shooter studied the craft of Stan Lee's Marvel comics,...

Jim Shooter, the comics industry titan who went from teenage writing prodigy to seminal but divisive editor-in-chief for Marvel Comics in the 1980s, has died after a battle with esophageal cancer. He was 73.
His death was announced Monday on Facebook by writer-editor Mark Waid and confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter by his son, Benjamin Shooter.
Shooter came of age in an industry that was both staid and stuck in traditions yet unusually open in a way that a phone call from an editor to a kid could make dreams come true.
He wrote stories that he sent into National Comics — as DC was known at the time — in the mid-1960s when he was in his early teens, prompting an out of the blue phone call from legendary editor Mort Weisinger, who would buy the stories and put Shooter on the payroll. Jim Shooter, the iconic comic book writer who broke into writing comics for DC when he was just 14 years old, and who later became one of the most influential Editors-in-Chief in Marvel history, has died at the age of 73, according to comic book writer, Mark Waid, who noted that Shooter had been suffering from esophogeal cancer for a few years now.
Famously (it was literally the first legend I did as part of Comic Book Legends Revealed), Shooter started writing for DC when he was just 14 years old. As a big comic book fan, he understood that the Marvel Comics of 1964-65 were a good deal sharper than most DC books of the era, so Shooter's idea was to pitch DC on stories that were more like Marvel ones. Really thoughtful idea, right? He also actively looked for a comic book that he felt had the biggest problems with its story,...

Tickets for Superman will likely be on sale by the time you read this, and as excitement for the movie continues to build, all that negative test screening chatter feels like a distant memory.
The first Dcu movie has undergone some changes, though, and filmmaker James Gunn is thought to have shaken up Superman's editing and music teams. We've also confirmed that a day-of-the-week structure was recently removed for a slightly more linear storytelling approach.
You may recall that, following an early screening, we heard about the movie featuring some pretty risqué jokes (including Eve Teschmacher sexting Jimmy Olsen). All of Gunn's previous DC projects have been R-Rated—The Suicide Squad, Peacemaker, and Creature Commandos—so we're not shocked to hear that he pushed the limits of Superman's PG-13 rating.
The Guardians of the Galaxy movies are PG-13, but feature noteworthy examples of adult humour; lest we forget that...

Superhero movies have become infatuated with the multiverse. A lot of that must go back to Marv Wolfman and George Pérez's 1986 "Crisis on Infinite Earths," where all the heroes from DC Comics' vast multiverse band together against an omnicidal threat. But can the multiverse be used for greater storytelling than as a vehicle to throw blockbuster IP together? The new comic book "Assorted Crisis Events" says "Yes."
Since the first issue of "Assorted Crisis Events" (which I covered here), the series has been sold as "'Crisis On Infinite Earths' if it was happening to normal people." Written by Deniz Camp, penciled by Eric Zawadzki, and colored by Jordie Bellaire, "Assorted Crisis Events" is an anthology. The main character is the crisis itself. Reality is falling apart due to different time periods coming together and leaving people caught in its wake.

The general audience may not have been familiar with this Marvel Comics character, but there was interest in bringing him to the screen. The adaptation passed from company to company, Richard Roundtree and L.L. Cool J were considered for the lead role. David Fincher was one of the directors who signed on, then dropped out. But eventually, it all came together in the right way at the right time, helping usher in a golden age of Marvel film adaptations. How could a lesser-known character have such a successful film? Let’s dig into it and find out What Happened to Blade.

You could make a case that Stephen Norrington's "Blade" was ground zero for the Marvel Cinematic Universe's unprecedented blockbuster run. Though it hit theaters in 1998, 11 years before the release of "Iron Man," if you grew up reading comic books, you could sense a kindred charge from your fellow moviegoers the second Snipes got on with his vampire-killing business. This wasn't Tim Burton's "Batman," which used Frank Miller's "The Dark Knight Returns" as window dressing; Norrington's "Blade" possessed the swagger and lethality of the character created by Marv Wolfman and Gene Colan.
Norrington immediately became a fan-favorite filmmaker (his reputation bolstered by "Blade" becoming one of the first must-own DVDs as the medium caught fire), which led a significant contingent of geeks to lobby for him to direct everything from "X-Men" to "Spider-Man." Tod Smith, a longtime comic book artist perhaps best known for his runs on Omega Men, Vigilante, Peacemaker, and Darkhawk, passed away last month at the age of 72, following a long illness.
Smith originally set out to become a musician, attending the Berklee School of Music after graduating high school in the early 1970s. He was a rock and roll guitarist during the mid-1970s in the Rhode Island area, but he soon discovered that the area wasn't exactly ideal for a freelance guitar player, so when he was 25, some friends of his sent him clippings for the Joe Kubert School of Cartoon and Graphic Art, which had only recently launched a year earlier. He attended the school for a year and a half, and then moved over to a Dick Giordano/Frank McLaughlin workshop in Connecticut. When "Batman: The Animated Series" debuted in 1992, Batman's last leading role in animation had been on the final "Super Friends" season: 1985's "The Super Powers Team: Galactic Guardians." Batman had never exactly faded away, though. There was another Batman cartoon pitch in the late 1980s (one that's totally fallen through the cracks of history since then) in the form of "Batman and the New Robin." This show would've starred Batman alongside the second (and edgiest) Robin, Jason Todd.
"Batman and the New Robin" was going to be produced by Nelvana, and the unearthed series bible was penned by J. Michael Straczynski. Daredevil: Born Again kicked off with a bang, and the latest episode will leave fans talking. The newest entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe sees Charlie Cox and Vincent D'Onofrio reprise their roles as Matt Murdock/Daredevil and Wilson Fisk/The Kingpin, respectively, in a continuation of the original Daredevil series. While fans might have been worried given that Daredevil previously went through some of the most iconic Daredevil stories, including "The Elektra Saga" and even put its own spin on the "Born Again" series that the Disney+ series draws its name from, the creators pulled from various corners of the Daredevil universe to craft this latest season.
Daredevil: Born Again features plenty of callbacks and Easter eggs from both the original Daredevil series and comics, but it also features some interesting nods and references to the larger MCU and the various heroes that occupy New York. From The Punisher,...

"Teen Titans" is one of the best and most celebrated superhero animated shows ever made, one that, alongside "Avatar: The Last Airbender," helped change kids' shows forever with its anime-inspired look and engagement with subjects like disability and racism. It had character arcs that developed throughout each season, fantastic animation, and a tone that balanced lightheartedness with moments of gravitas and character drama. Plus, in essence, it was a show about teenagers. This last part is important, because the change from very episodic storytelling of the (still masterful) Bruce Timm shows like "Batman: The Animated Series" or "Justice League" to adding more serialized elements and character development paved the way for darker, edgier shows like "Young Justice."
Inspired by '80s storylines by Marv Wolfman and the late, great George Pérez, "Teen Titans" follows Robin (Scot Menville), the capable leader of the group; Starfire (Hynden Walch), an alien princess from...

This post contains spoilers for season 1 of "Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man."
The title "Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man" suggests a small-time superhero, but the series' 10-episode debut season pulled in faces from all across the Marvel Universe. Among the main cast, the show reinvented Nico Minoru (Grace Song) of "The Runaways" as the goth best friend of Peter Parker (Hudson Thames).
I grew up on the 1990s "Spider-Man" cartoon, which often featured Mighty Marvel Team-Ups between Spidey and other superheroes: X-Men, Captain America, etc. "Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man" is doing the same. Daredevil (Charlie Cox) shows up in episode 6 to spar with Spider-Man, and his apprentice Finesse (Anjali Kunapaneni) is posing as one of Peter's fellow Oscorp interns.

Writer Deniz Camp has been reinventing the Marvel Comics universe, piece by piece, in his "Ultimates" series. Camp's Marvelous heroes reflect today's problems but remain true to their original spirit: a She-Hulk created through careless atomic testing near indigenous people, a Native-American Hawkeye fighting against environmental racism, a Luke Cage who organizes mass rebellion against mass incarceration, etc.
As "Ultimates" soldiers on, Camp is also launching a creator-owned science-fiction comic over at Image: "Assorted Crisis Events," penciled by Eric Zawadzki, colored by Jordie Bellaire and lettered by Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou. Even more exciting is that it's an ongoing series.
In "Assorted Crisis Events," the world is out of whack in a way it can only be in a comic book. It's all due to a favorite plot device of superhero comics, the multiverse; time, past, present, and every possible future are collapsing in on themselves.

Massive spoilers for the first episode of "Daredevil: Born Again" follow.
M. Night Shyamalan's "Unbreakable" introduced a useful nomenclature for comic book super-villains: the mastermind and the soldier (the physical equal and opposite for the hero). Daredevil has two great nemeses that both hit one category each: Wilson Fisk/The Kingpin, and Bullseye. "The man who never misses," Bullseye is a ruthless assassin with impossibly good aim and not a shred of conscience.
The Netflix "Daredevil" series from several ago put Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) and Fisk's (Vincent D'Onofrio) rivalry front and center, but it held off on Bullseye. He finally came in the series' third and final season, reimagined as an FBI agent named Benjamin "Dex" Poindexter (Wilson Bethel). Far from the campy baddie played by Colin Farrell in the 2003 "Daredevil" film, this Bullseye was truly disturbed and only grew worse under Fisk's tutelage.

Marvel Television has reportedly paused its development of three projects: Nova, Strange Academy and Terror, Inc. The three shows may still be made in the future.
Deadline reports that Marvel's decision to pull back on the three series is due to a shift in the studio's model for producing television series. Sources stressed that Nova, Strange Academy and Terror, Inc. were "never officially greenlit," so they may still come to fruition down the road- but the studio has "shifted its priorities at the moment." The change in Marvel's production efforts began a few years ago, when senior leadership began revamping the Daredevil: Born Again series and its development process.

Exclusive: Marvel Television has paused development on three projects: Nova, Strange Academy and Terror, Inc.
Sources stressed to Deadline that these projects were never officially greenlit, and may still come to fruition at some point. The studio has simply shifted its priorities at the moment.
We’re told the decision is also reflective of a new model for producing television that’s emerged at Marvel in recent years. Originally, Marvel approached series development in much the same way it handled features: a slate was announced, and what was teased was more or less what got made. A couple of years ago, senior leadership decided to retool the development process, as they were also revamping their new Daredevil series, Born Again.

Henry Cavill's time as Superman came to an undignified end after being tapped by Warner Bros. for Black Adam's mid-credits scene, The Flash's reshoots, a Man of Steel sequel, and likely projects including Black Adam 2 and Crisis on Infinite Earths.
When James Gunn and Peter Safran formed DC Studios, Cavill was dropped and David Corenswet was tapped to play the hero in this summer's Superman.
The British actor, who has also bid farewell to The Witcher, wasted no time in making the leap to the MCU for a cameo role as a Wolverine Variant in Deadpool & Wolverine. Rumours have since persisted that Cavill is being lined up to return, though not necessarily as Logan.
Scooper @MyTimeToShineH has today claimed that "Henry Cavill is being eyed for a role in the Nova show." As usual, this relatively vague claim doesn't shed any additional light on who the former Superman would play,...

Last October, there were rumblings online that Marvel Studios had cast Blue Beetle star Xolo Maridueña in its planned Nova TV series. We didn't pay too much attention to it at the time, though many fans gave the notion of the Cobra Kai star joining the MCU a thumbs up.
Whether it's as Richard Rider or another member of the Nova Corps, Maridueña would be an exciting addition to the MCU. While he has DC Studios' animated Blue Beetle series on the way, there's no word on Jaime Reyes' live-action future and many actors have starred in Marvel and DC projects at the same time.
That Hashtag Show recently spoke to Maridueña and asked if he's heard anything about a possible starring role in Nova.
"I mean, that would be cool too," the actor responded. "Look, yeah, that'd be great. Shit, I'm ready for whatever work is coming my way,...

Last March, we learned that playwright turned feature scribe Ana Nogueira had been tapped to pen a Teen Titans screenplay after impressing DC Studios co-CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran with her work on Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.
There have been conflicting reports about which characters will make up the superhero team in the Dcu, with the latest reports claiming it will be Teen Titans Go! leads Robin, Raven, Starfire, Cyborg and Beast Boy.
With The Brave and the Bold set to revolve around Batman training Damian Wayne, the likelihood of Teen Titans' Robin being Dick Grayson is low. That will upset many fans but, at this point in the Dcu's timeline, Dick is almost certainly Nightwing.
According to a new rumour, the plan is indeed for Damian to serve as Robin in this team-up. There's precedent for that in the comics and he's bound to have an interesting dynamic...

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League has been a total failure for both Warner Bros. and developer Rocksteady, to put it simply. Although it was a live service game, it had very little support when it first came out, received negative reviews, had almost no goodwill, and nearly all of its updates were criticized after they were released.

This game not only cost Rocksteady financially but also demolished the goodwill of the popular development company which it built by gifting us some of the best Batman games in the Arkham universe. However, if Rocksteady wants to regain its lost glory, then there is one superhero who can do the honors.

We first met the Nova Corps in 2014's Guardians of the Galaxy. However, James Gunn wasn't interested in bringing Richard Rider to the big screen - he wanted to keep the focus on only one human character - and the Corps was portrayed as little more than a regular intergalactic police force.
Avengers: Infinity War strongly hinted that Thanos had laid waste to them, though that doesn't mean Marvel Studios can't still find a way to reintroduce them, with the superpowered Richard Rider among those tasked with protecting the wider universe.
Much has been said about what we can expect from the series in recent days, including plans for classic Fantastic Four villain Annihilus.
Today, scooper Daniel Richtman brings word that there's an open casting call out for the McU's Richard. He also reveals that Marvel Studios/Marvel Television is not set on Nova being white, meaning we could see...

Back in the 2010s, superhero movies adopted the "cinematic universe" as their storytelling framework; like the comics, separate franchises with unique lead characters existed within a common setting and would cross over. In the 2020s, cape-flicks leveled up to the multiverse, where each past version of a screen superhero also exists and can interact with the current ones. It's all really an excuse for easy nostalgia plays and inside jokes, hence Michael Keaton showing up as Batman again in "The Flash." (Not that it helped the movie succeed.) Last year's "Deadpool & Wolverine" was similarly all about Disney buying out 20th Century Fox and discarding the latter studio's Marvel franchises.
For my money, only one superhero movie has used the multiverse in a way befitting true science-fiction rather than just picking and choosing favored action figures for a single play-set.

With an ongoing narrative that’s lasted for the better part of a century, DC Comics has one of the most convoluted fictional continuities in of all time. After countless Crises, Rebirths, and a Flashpoint here and there, there’s not a single character or aspect of the DC Universe that hasn’t been impacted by a retcon in one way or another.
Many of these retcons have become integral to fans’ conceptions of the World’s Greatest Heroes, while more than a few still have their fair share of detractors. But each one of the retcons in this list had an undeniable effect on the DC Universe - and its fans.

The upcoming 2025 Superman movie will work in several ways, being the first movie in the newly relaunched DC Universe while also rebooting the Man of Steel. Meant to be a more traditional take on the hero compared to the DC Extended Universe version, it will also have a much more accurate take on Lex Luthor. Most interestingly, Nicholas Hoult's Lex Luthor may draw from an iconic TV show inspiration.

The Teen Titans have many beloved heroes in their ranks, but there's one hero who stands out as the team's most valuable asset. Some might assume that Starfire is the strongest Titan, and though she's certainly formidable in her own right, Raven is without question the greatest source of power in the roster. She isn't just an asset in terms of what she contributes in battle, either; Raven's abilities can help her teammates just as much as they can harm opponents.
Many of the Teen Titans got their start in DC lore as sidekicks of more prominent superheroes. For instance, Dick Grayson founded the team as Robin long before he became Nightwing, and Wally West joined as the Kid Flash to Barry Allen's Flash. Raven, however, stands out as a hero in her own right. The daughter of Trigon has incredible magic at her disposal that proves she's the best Titan around,...

One of the few villains who has never made an appearance in a Superman film is Ultraman. With a new Superman movie coming out next year, rumors have been swirling that one of the main antagonists will be Ultraman, marking his first live-action appearance. If this rumor turns out to be true, it could give Superman the greatest live-action fight of his film career.
Because of the shifting nature and history of comic books, there have been plenty of different versions of Ultraman over the years. Nova was never going to join the Guardians of the Galaxy as long as Star-Lord was around. James Gunn, who wrote and directed all three Guardians of the Galaxy movies, recently shared how Star-Lord prevented Nova from appearing in the Marvel Cinematic Universe trilogy.
Responding to a fan on Threads who asked why Nova wasn't included in any of the GotG movies, Gunn wrote, "I only wanted one human being." Across all three movies, Peter Quill/Star-Lord (played by Chris Pratt) is the only human on the cosmic-based team, with the other members either aliens, animals, or the God of Thunder, Thor. Nova, the alias of Richard Rider, who was introduced in the comics back in 1976 as a New York high school student, would have been one too many humans for Gunn's liking. Richard Rider/Nova was created by writer Marv Wolfman and artist John Romita Sr. and first appeared...

The animated series is the first of several projects in development at the newly formed DC Studios in an attempt to get the DC franchise back on track after the recent string of box office bombs and poor reception from films like Joker: Folie à Deux. The Dcu will look to succeed where the former Dceu failed, and the stakes couldn't be higher for a franchise with so much potential. Only part of the Dcu road map has been officially revealed, but there have also been projects that have come to light from reports, and one of them has...

When the infamous Titans member, Tara Markov, was brought back to life, few fans were surprised, as characters die in comic books all the time, and it's rare that they actually stay dead. But what DC did with Terra next was a major subversion of the superhero clich that everyone was expecting.
The return of Tara "Terra" Markov was explained in the story "Who Is Tara Markov?" by Geoff Johns, Ben Raab, and Derec Aucoin from The Titans: Secret Files & Origins #2.
Tara was a former Teen Titans member who turned out to be a major antagonist. She revealed her evil nature in the pages of the infamous Judas Contract storyline by Marv Wolfman and George Prez. This story included the death of Tara, but as with most superhero comic characters, she didn't stay dead for long.
