This article contains spoilers for "Doctor Who" season 2, episode 7, "The Wish World."
The penultimate episode of "Doctor Who" season 2 is here, and it makes a spirited attempt to shatter all the records in the coveted "most Time Lords in an episode not set on Gallifrey" category. Apart from two different versions of a classic Time Lady antagonist, the Rani (Archie Panjabi) and Mrs. Flood (Anita Dobson), there's the Doctor (Ncuti Gatwa) himself ... and arguably his mysterious granddaughter Susan Foreman (Carole Ann Ford), depending on which version of her numerous backstories the viewer chooses to believe. Oh, and if that list wasn't enough, the episode also wheels out a truly deep Gallifrey cut: Omega.
Originally played by Stephen Thorne, this particular Time Lord is most notorious for his role as the villain of the first multi-Doctor story arc ever: the 1972-1973 serial "The Three Doctors," which combined the might of the...

This article contains spoilers for "Doctor Who" season 2, episode 2, "Lux."
"Doctor Who" is no stranger to animation. Apart from comparatively minor projects like the 2020 "Daleks!" animated show and larger undertakings like the BBC's long-running project to rescue some of the 100-plus lost "Doctor Who" episodes with the power of animation, assorted creatives have proposed animated "Doctor Who" shows of varying outlandishness for years. So, when the "Doctor Who" season 2 trailer teased the Doctor (Ncuti Gatwa) getting quite literally animated, ardent fans were no doubt keen to find out what the series has in store for them.
As it turns out, the animation episode, "Lux," is nothing less than a love letter for dedicated fans ... just not the way they might have anticipated. When the moonlight-animated living cartoon Mr. Ring-a-Ding (voiced by Alan Cumming) turns out to be Lux Imperator -- the god of light from the same pantheon as...

There are loads of amazing Doctor Who theories that haven’t been confirmed or denied that are well worth considering. Many of the greatest Doctor Who stories of all time feature plotlines or characters that leave audiences scratching their heads for long after, and several of the theories that form are yet to get a satisfying conclusion. Fans of the hit sci-fi show continue to come up with their own ideas to these stories, which helps further engage viewers with Doctor Who’s narrative.
Every incarnation of the Doctor faces some sort of strange mystery that the titular Time Lord doesn’t even understand, but most of the time, these story arcs are eventually wrapped up. From the Master’s timeline to the true identity of mysterious characters, there are plenty of unsolved Doctor Who theories. With Doctor Who season 15 on the way, hopefully the show will finally acknowledge these theories and provide some answers.

The Doctor Who season 15 trailer teases some really exciting episodes, but I'm also worried that Ncuti Gatwa's second season as the show's leading man is already retreading the same old ground as his inaugural run. The ending of Doctor Who season 14 wrapped up many of the mysteries that had permeated the beginning of the Disney era, even if some of the resolutions were less than satisfactory. However, there was one storyline in particular that I would, at best, describe as divisive. Weirdly, Russell T. Davies seems content to revisit a very similar arc.

Whovians got an extra Christmas present in 2024, in the form of the first teaser trailer for 2025's Doctor Who, Season 2 (aka Series 15). The trailer arrived following this year's Christmas special, "Joy to the World," which found Ncuti Gatwa's Fifteenth Doctor still traveling alone after parting ways with Ruby Sunday (Millie Gibson). The second season of Doctor Who is set to see the Time Lord and Ruby reunite, but will also introduce Varada Sethu as new companion, Belinda Chandra. Sethu made her Doctor Who debut on the Season 1 episode, "Boom," where she played Mundy Flynn, who appears to be an entirely separate character to Belinda.
The first teaser trailer for Doctor Who Season 2 gives fans a glimpse of Ruby Sunday's return, alongside some other old friends. In addition to Ruby, the trailer features a first look at Belinda in action and some of the new threats she and the Doctor will be facing.

Steven Moffat and Nicola Coughlan break down the impactful ending of Doctor Who's 2024 Christmas special, from the greater meaning behind the Star Seed to the emotional climax of Joy's story. Set after the events of Doctor Who season 14, "Joy to the World" also stars Joel Fry, Jonathan Harris, and Steph de Walley.

A classic Doctor Who star reveals how Russell T Davies set up a return for former Doctors in future episodes, and his interest in coming back again. While the cast of Doctor Who has almost always focused on the main character in any given era, the show is no stranger to reintroducing Doctors from previous parts of the series. This includes those who were around prior to its 2005 revival, such as Sylvester McCoy, who portrayed the Seventh Doctor, returning to his role in the 2022 special, "The Power of the Doctor."
Speaking with The 50% Doctor Who Podcast (via Radio Times), McCoy revealed that Russell T Davies actually set up returns not only for his Seventh Doctor, but other classic leads from Doctor Who's history. The actor revealed the 60th anniversary spinoff show, Tales of the Tardis, which revealed new adventures from classic Doctors, was meant as a bridge to reintroduce them into the main series.

Doctor Who showrunners Russell T Davies and Steven Moffat come together to celebrate the "phenomenal" casting of one Doctor in particular. Looking back at the Fourth Doctor era, Tom Baker assumed the role in 1974, leading the show for 172 episodes across 7 seasons. Baker's final battle against the Master (Anthony Ainley) in 1981's "Logopolis" brought his adventures to an end with the Fourth Doctor's regeneration, but he has since reprised the role in one-off appearances and audio dramas.
When speaking to Doctor Who Magazine (via RadioTimes) in a larger retrospective on Phillip Hinchcliffe's producing tenure, Moffat turned attention to the cast of that era, particularly praising Baker, Elizabeth Sladen, and Ian Marter's Tardis team of the Fourth Doctor, Sarah Jane Smith, and Harry Sullivan. He went so far as to say Doctor Who hasn't a better cast, explaining:

As it nears 60 years since Susan Foreman said farewell to William Hartnell's First Doctor, Carole Ann Ford has addressed the potential difficulties surrounding a possible return to Doctor Who. Susan was the Time Lord's first companion, being the Doctor's granddaughter who had joined him on his journey and hid on Earth until she attracted the attention of teachers Ian Chesterton (William Russell) and Barbara Wright (Jacqueline Hill). After almost a year of adventures in the show, Ford left the series in the final chapter of 1966's "The Dalek Invasion of Earth" to rebuild society.

Doctor Who season 15 has now added an Emmy winner to face off against Ncuti Gatwa's Fifteenth Doctor. Gatwa's era of the long-running BBC sci-fi series kicked off with 2023's seasonal special "The Church on Ruby Road," where he first joined forces with Millie Gibson's Ruby Sunday. The Doctor and Ruby's adventures took them to deep-space warzones, alternate timelines, the Beatlemania of the 1960s, and Regency-era England before life would lead to them parting ways with one another after an emotional Doctor Who season 14 finale.
While season 15 wrapped filming in May, Deadline has reported that The Good Wife star Archie Panjabi will appear in the series when it returns to Disney Plus and BBC One in 2025. It is unknown who Panjabi will play and how many episodes she will appear since the BBC keeps details under tight wraps. However, it is confirmed the role is a villainous character.

The Pantheon is a group of powerful, immortal beings that have been mentioned throughout the history of Doctor Who. Some of these beings possess the ability to possess humans, while others have the power to control dreams, manipulate time, and create chaos. Here are some of the potential candidates for the Pantheon that could be retconned into the show: The Gods of the Rutans: The Rutans are known for their ability to possess humans, which is a trait shared by many of the Pantheon gods. Additionally, the Queen Ruta could be a Pantheon god who has the ability to replicate herself, which would explain the Rutans' lack of individuality without contradicting their status as gods. The Dream Lord: The Dream Lord is an apparition that can control dreams and likes to create nightmares. Although it was initially said to be a manifestation of the Doctor's dark side, it could be retconned to be telepathic,...

Doctor Who season 14's finale trailer hid the Memory Tardis's involvement, which was edited out of trailers to protect the plot. The Memory Tardis's background was changed in the trailer to avoid revealing Sutekh's possession of the Doctor's Tardis. Doctor Who has a history of removing key details from trailers to keep plot surprises intact.
The promotion for Doctor Who season 14 hid one huge detail from the plot of its finale, "Empire of Death". With the return of Fourth Doctor (Tom Baker) villain Sutekh (Gabriel Woolf) and the revelations about the mother of Ruby Sunday (Millie Gibson), it makes a lot of sense for Doctor Who's promotion to hold back from revealing too much. Now that all episodes of Doctor Who season 14 have aired, it's easy to see where the footage in the trailers differs from the finished edits.

In a controversial twist that has left fans both astonished and delighted, the Season 1 finale of Doctor Who revealed the true identity of Ruby Sunday's (Millie Gibson) birth mother. The season-long mystery, which perplexed even the Doctor (Ncuti Gatwa) and the god Sutekh (Gabriel Woolf), culminated in a revelation that her mother, Louise Miller (Faye McKeever), is simply an ordinary human with no ties to Time Lords or gods. Doctor Who season 14 episode 7 adds new twist, suggesting Susan Triad may not be the Doctor's granddaughter. Revelation in "The Legend of Ruby Sunday" hints at a possible future where the Doctor has children. Jenny, the Doctor's daughter, is the only surviving child, as Susan and other offspring are presumed dead.
Doctor Who season 14, episode 7, "The Legend of Ruby Sunday" has revealed information that further complicates what we know about the Doctor's children. The very first episode of Doctor Who, back in 1963, revealed that the First Doctor (William Hartnell) and his granddaughter Susan (Carole Ann Ford) were living on Earth after fleeing their home planet for reasons unknown. Over 60 years later, in "The Legend of Ruby Sunday", the audience is led to believe that the Doctor's granddaughter Susan could be Susan Triad, played by Susan Twist.

Gabriel Woolf is thrilled to reprise Sutekh in Doctor Who after 48 years. Woolf was surprised by Sutekh's new story but found it wonderful. Doctor Who season 14 finale sees Sutekh return to bring death to the Doctor and claim the Tardis.
Gabriel Woolf opens up about how he reacted to returning to voice his classic Doctor Who antagonist Sutekh the Destroyer 48 years after the character debuted. The Osiran antagonist was the main villain of Tom Baker's 1975 story "Pyramids of Mars", which saw the alien attempt to break free of his imprisonment to wreak deadly vengeance on those who sealed him away. After a season-long plot, Doctor Who season 14's penultimate episode revealed Sutekh had returned to bring death to the Doctor and claim the Tardis.

Tales Of The Tardis segments have been added to Doctor Who: Pyramid of Mars, which will be broadcast on BBC4 on Thursday.
One of the biggest treats of Doctor Who’s 60th anniversary celebrations last year was Tales Of The Tardis. Something that perhaps started off as fan service evolved into a lovely celebration of the history of the show, as newly filmed segments were added to the beginning and the end of classic stories, with actors reprising their roles as various companions, some for the first time onscreen in decades.
We got to see the Vicki and Steven in The Time Meddler, Jamie and Zoe in The Mind Robber, Jo and Sarah Jane Adventures alumni Clyde in The Three Doctors, Fifth Doctor and Tegan in Earthshock, Sixth Doctor and Peri in Vengeance On Varos and Seventh Doctor and Ace in Curse Of Fenric.

Warning: Contains spoilers for 'The Legend Of Ruby Sunday'
Ever since Russell T. Davies’ return to the helm of Doctor Who last year, the showrunner has been hard at work filling his new-look Whoniverse’s mystery box with an ever-growing pile of questions. Who is Ruby Sunday’s mum? Why does Susan Twist keep popping up here, there, and everywhere? What’s the deal with the Tardis’ weird groaning? And just who — or what — exactly is The One Who Waits? Well, with ‘The Legend Of Ruby Sunday’, the first in the series’ somehow here already two-part finale, Davies finally gets down to the nitty gritty of doling out some answers. Well, sort of, at least. This is a Russell T. Davies series finale part one after all.
This most part one-iest of part ones kicks off with the Doctor (Gatwa) and Ruby (Gibson) barreling the Tardis into Unit HQ to...

Warning: Major spoilers ahead for Doctor Who season 14, episode 7, "The Legend of Ruby Sunday."
The big bad of Doctor Who season 14 is related to a Tom Baker story from 1975, making it a sequel to a classic tale. Sutekh is the main antagonist in "The Legend of Ruby Sunday," tying back to "Pyramids of Mars." Russell T Davies' retcon of Sutekh could alter how viewers see episodes between the two related stories.
Doctor Who season 14 initially felt like something of a fresh start for the long-running British sci-fi show, but the penultimate installment of Ncuti Gatwa's first run of episodes confirms that the larger arc has always been directly related to a Tom Baker story from 1975. Doctor Who is no stranger to bringing back villains from decades gone by, with the Disney era immediately including the return of the Toymaker for the ending of the Doctor Who 60th-anniversary specials. However,...

Doctor Who showrunner Russell T Davies explains how the Doctor has forbidden Unit from time travel experiments. Unit's latest time travel innovation sheds light on previously unexplored historical research. The Time Window chamber offers a unique way to look into the past without physically traveling through time.
Russell T Davies explains how Unit's latest attempt at crafting their form of time travel via the Time Window fits into the organization's long-running Doctor Who history. Debuting during the Second Doctor's (Patrick Troughton) era, Unit has safeguarded the Earth from extraterrestrial threat since 1958 and is currently headed by Kate Lethbridge-Stewart (Jemma Redgrave) from their London skyscraper HQ. After a brief appearance in "73 Yards'" alternate timeline, the organization returned in "The Legend of Ruby Sunday" as Ncuti Gatwa's Fifteenth Doctor and Millie Gibson's Ruby Sunday use the Time Window to glimpse at the night of Ruby's abandonment.

Ncuti Gatwa's ideal villain for his Doctor Who era can provide a conclusion to a classic David Tennant story. Interviewed to promote Doctor Who's distribution deal with Disney+, Gatwa was asked which classic Doctor Who villain he wanted to face during his era. Ncuti Gatwa stated a preference for The Beast, whose sole appearance in Doctor Who season 2 left things wide open for a potential return. Chained beneath the impossible planet of the story's title, the Beast was heavily implied to be the Devil himself, the embodiment of evil which inspired religious depictions across history.
Voiced by Gabriel Woolf, who had previously voiced Egyptian god Sutekh in the Tom Baker serial The Pyramids of Mars, the Beast was left underneath the planet, where it remains dormant. There's plenty of potential for another confrontation between the Doctor and the Beast, and such a clash could dramatically change the scale of...

Last month we took a look at Doctor Who Series One as it celebrated its 10th Anniversary. Specifically, we delved deep into the murky world of in-jokes and sweet nerdy references.
Let’s take another trip back in time and have a look at the more notable and interesting references and in-jokes from Doctor Who Series Two, starring David Tennant and Billie Piper, where the credit of “Doctor Who” had been changed back to “The Doctor”. Pfft, party poopers.
New Earth
Old-skool fans would have been forgiven for being excited at the prospect, given that “New Earth” was a planet mentioned in the 1974 classic Invasion Of The Dinosaurs (though it didn’t actually exist in that story, it was a fake world). But all fans could get excited at...

From The Twilight Zone to Penny Dreadful, Doctor Who and more, Den Of Geek’s writers revisit the TV episodes that truly terrify them…
It’s Halloween! Icicles are glistening from window sills. Chestnuts are roasting on open fires. North Pole elves are… hang on, no. None of that nice, fluffy stuff is happening. At Halloween, demonic creatures hunt for flesh, monsters creep out of their graves, and TV does its level best to freak us all the hell out.
In the spirit of all that, we asked our writers to select and share the TV episodes, horror or otherwise, that have made them whimper with fear. Here they all are, 31 of them, because, well, at Halloween, we like things to add up to 31.
Note that this isn’t a Top 10, or a Best Of, nor is it listed in order of scariness. It’s a collection of the particular...

Doctor Who exists to scare children. If you're interested in the concepts of faith and religion, then you may be surprised to find that you could learn a thing or two from Doctor Who. The everyday guys 'n' gals may think of it as a sci-fi adventure roundabout, but one of the great things about the show is that a lot of the time, it's subtly educating the viewers too. Everything you could want to know about the world is actually included in Doctor Who's long tapestry – money, power, capitalism, vivisection, ecology – only a handful of a lengthy list of worthy topics up for grabs.
And one of the big daddies of discussion is religion and faith. Doctor Who has and always will be a show that promotes good over evil – but quite a few stories have looked at the concepts of religious beliefs in greater detail. We've had the subtle Buddhism message of Planet Of The Spiders.
