Kathy Bates
Actress Kathy Bates used her Best Actress in a Drama Series win at the Critics Choice Awards to shine a spotlight on the recent Los Angeles wildfires and support her “Matlock” executive producer, Eric Christian Olsen.

During her acceptance speech, Bates revealed that Olsen and his family lost their Palisades home in the devastating fires. She emotionally praised the firefighters who battled the massive blaze, saying, “To watch all of you guys standing in line with just a wall of flames in front of you is just terrifying.”

Olsen, his wife Sarah Wright Olsen, and their three children had lived in the Palisades home for 13 years before its destruction. Sarah later shared their grief on Instagram, describing the difficult goodbye to their longtime community.

Bates pledged to give her award to Olsen, intending it to help with rebuilding efforts. “Our producer had a house in Palisades, and it burned down.

Sad news was confirmed by NCIS: Los Angeles star Eric Christian Olsen and his family.

The Palisades Fire burned down the home where Eric, his wife Sarah, and their three children had lived.

California has been plagued by wildfires this month. Firefighters continue to battle against the elements to put out those fires.

“Anybody have room for three kids and three dogs? Two of which have to be separated at all times. Also Wyatt’s Lego collection and Esme’s mermaids,” Eric wrote in a post earlier in December.

He couldn’t have known that his worry about a previous fire in the area would give way to something else as January arrived.

The 12 Best Movies To Watch If You Like Sicario
Image
Movies don't get much better than Denis Villeneuve's "Sicario," an Oscar-winning 2015 drama that takes a hard look at the war on drugs as seen through the eyes of a naive FBI agent (Emily Blunt). Written by "Yellowstone" creator Taylor Sheridan, "Sicario" doesn't play by traditional rules. There are no heroes or villains or easy solutions to complicated problems. Instead, this world is littered with characters like Benicio del Toro's haunted assassin Alejandro Gillick and Josh Brolin's ruthless and curiously detached CIA operative, two men who willfully execute their ethically compromised missions because it's the only path that leads to something resembling success.

Dark, atmospheric, well written and acted, and boasting some of legendary cinematographer Roger Deakins' best work, "Sicario" is an experience you won't soon forget. There aren't many films like it.

That said, there are films we wholeheartedly recommend that at least come close. We've compiled...

Hollywood star Tom Cruise is known to have a commanding on-screen presence, a trait that extends to his off-screen persona as well, as he is often described as the “perfectionist” due to his meticulous approach to his craft.

Every Days Of Our Lives Cast Member Leaving The Soap In 2024
Image
Days of Our Lives has seen frequent turnover with its cast and 2024 is no different, with several characters leaving the long-running soap opera. As one of the longest-running TV shows ever, Days of Our Lives has had hundreds of characters arrive and leave since 1965, when the show first premiered. From long-time performers like Bryan Dattilo to actors who only briefly appeared on Days of Our Lives, like Mila Kunis, and went on to have notable careers in movies and TV shows, the legendary soap opera takes all kinds of performers for decades or maybe just a short arc.

The series ostensibly follows the Brady and the Horton families; however, Days of Our Lives features many more characters from other families all with their own plots and schemes. Not every Days of Our Lives actor can become the longest-running soap opera actor in history, and there have been plenty of departures over the years.

American Made True Story: 10 Biggest Changes To Barry Seals Real Life
Image
Barry Seal's connection to the CIA is a subject of debate and conspiracy theories, but he never confirmed these claims himself. In the movie American Made, Barry Seal's brother-in-law, Jb, is killed by a car bomb, but this never happened in real life. The government's interest in Barry Seal was due to his involvement in drug trafficking, not cigar smuggling as portrayed in the movie.

The 2017 film American Made, starring Tom Cruise as Barry Seal, captivated audiences with its stranger-than-fiction story about a drug runner for the CIA in an operation known as the Iran-Contra Affair in the 1980s. The movie featured a chapter of America's dark history and involvement in the drug smuggling of cocaine onto US soil, depicting the true story with action, intrigue, and sometimes dark comedy. However, as in the case of many Hollywood movies, American Made took significant liberties for storytelling and entertainment.

Is American Made Really Based on a True Story?
Image
Originally titled Mena, 2017's American Made stars Tom Cruise as a fictional version of the real Barry Seal, a previous Twa aviator who also conducted operations for the CIA, and who joined the Medellín Cartel as a drug runner in the 1980s. As a way to avoid jail time, Seal would become an informant for the DEA (Drug Enforcement Administration). The film, directed by Doug Liman and written by Gary Spinelli, also stars Domhnall Gleeson, Sarah Wright, Alejandro Edda, Mauricio Mejía, Caleb Landry Jones, and Jesse Plemons.

American Made grossed $134 million worldwide against a production budget of $50 million, and received generally positive reviews from critics, who praised Cruise's performance in particular. "This is yet another hyper-competent, boyishly devil-may-care character that offers Cruise, famous for his derring-do on set, a chance to do his own stunts and fly a plane; it's not a role all that far out of the aging megastar's wheelhouse,...

American Made: What Happened To Barry Seal’s Wife In Real Life
Image
American Made is a 2017 movie that dramatizes the true story of Barry Seal, a drug smuggler-turned-DEA informant. The movie takes creative liberties, including the portrayal of a fictional CIA agent and a dramatic plane crash scene. Barry Seal's real-life wife, Deborah Seal, struggled financially after his death, and the true nature of his assassination is still debated.

Dramatizing the larger-than-life true story of drug smuggler-turned-dea informant Barry Seal, American Made also touched upon other real-life personalities like Pablo Escobar, George Bush, and Seal’s own wife Deborah (renamed Lucy). Tom Cruise, who is no stranger to flying aircrafts both on and off-screen, played the infamous aviator. The movie reveals how the commercial pilot was hired by the CIA in 1978 to fly stealth missions over Central America before he also got involved with the Medellín Cartel, the drug cartel famously portrayed in Netflix’s Narcos. Faring well with critics and audiences,...

Mark Webber, Nicole Elizabeth Berger, and Bodhi Palmer in The Place of No Words (2019)
US Trailer for Mark Webber's Magical Fantasy 'The Place of No Words'
Mark Webber, Nicole Elizabeth Berger, and Bodhi Palmer in The Place of No Words (2019)
"Am I dreaming?" "I see the whole world in your eyes." Gravitas has released an official trailer for an indie feature titled The Place of No Words, made by actor / filmmaker Mark Webber, which first premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival last year. This deeply personal film stars real-life couple Mark Webber and Teresa Palmer, and their son Bodhi Palmer. The film explores the unanswerable question "where do we go when we die?" posed by three-year-old Bohdi and takes them on an imaginative adventure that explores how we cope with dying, and the love, laughter, and pain we can find within it. The original title of this was Freeka Reeka Sheeka Deeka and the Big Battle in the Forest, which is kind of awesome, but it makes sense for them to choose something different. Also starring Eric Christian Olsen, Nicole Elizabeth Berger, Anna Schafer, Phoebe Tonkin, and Sarah Wright. I've...

Mark Webber And Teresa Palmer’s ‘The Place Of No Words’ Placed At Gravitas Ventures
Image
Exclusive: Gravitas Ventures has acquired North American rights to The Place of No Words, the fantasy-reality drama written and directed by Mark Webber and starring Webber, his real-life wife Teresa Palmer and their son Bodhi Palmer.

The pic, which originally premiered at the 2019 Tribeca Film Festival, will now be released in theaters and on demand on October 23.

Continuing Webber’s aesthetic of using elements from his real life to enhance his storytelling, he again has cast his own family members. The pic begins as Bodhi, age 3, asks “Where do we go when we die?” It launches his real family on an adventure that moves between the real world and a fantasy realm filled with mythical creatures to explore how we cope with dying, and the love, laughter and pain we can find within it.

Nicole Elizabeth Berger plays the fairy Esmeralda.

Michael Caine, Lena Headey to Star in Modern-Day Version of ‘Oliver Twist’
Michael Caine at an event for Sleuth (2007)
Michael Caine, Lena Headey and pop star Rita Ora are to star in “Twist,” a modern-day, gender-bending film interpretation of Charles Dickens’ classic novel “Oliver Twist” for Sky, which will release the film day and date in theaters and on its pay-tv platform.

The title role of Oliver is played by Jude Law’s son Raff Law. In this version, Oliver is reinvented as a streetwise artist living on the streets of modern-day London.

A chance encounter with a gang of grifters led by the charismatic Dodge, played by Ora, propels Twist into a high-stakes heist to steal a priceless painting for master thief Fagin, portrayed by Caine, and his psychopathic business partner, Sikes, played by Headey. Franz Drameh, Sophie Simnett and David Walliams also star.

The film goes into production in London this fall, and will be available on the Sky Cinema pay-tv service on the same day as its theatrical release.

Les Miserables (1978)
France Oscar Shortlist Includes Cannes Pics But No Polanski; Sky Boards Felicity Jones-Voiced ‘Dragon Rider’ — Global Briefs
Les Miserables (1978)
France’s shortlist for its best international film Oscar submission includes Cannes hits Les Miserables and Portrait Of A Lady On Fire and recent Toronto premiere Proxima. The selection committee, which is overseen by the country’s National Cinema Centre, will make its final selection on Friday, September 20. There was no place for Roman Polanski’s Venice title An Officer And A Spy, perhaps less of a surprise given the Academy’s expulsion from its ranks of the six-time Oscar-winning director in 2018. France’s selection committee includes producers Rosalie Varda and Jean Bréhat, sales agents Agathe Valentin and Muriel Sauzay, directors Danièle Thompson and Pierre Salvadori, Cannes chief Thierry Frémaux, UniFrance president Serge Toubiana and Cesar president Alain Terzian. France has been one of the most successful countries in the foreign language category: more than half of their Oscar submissions have achieved nominations and nine have won the award.

The very happy event caps a nine-season flirtation-turned-romance between Lapd Liaison Marty Deeks and Special Agent Kensi Blye, played by Eric Christian Olsen and Daniela Ruah. To mark the occasion, the bride and groom will receive one unwelcome visitor (as well as perhaps one very joyous RSVP), while for good measure “Densi” fans will at long last learn what is inside… The Box.

American Made DVD/Blu-ray release date and bonus features
Kirsten Howard Nov 2, 2017

We'll be able to buy a copy of American Made here in the UK a few weeks before it's released in the Us. Here are the details...

Director Doug Liman and his leading man Tom Cruise reunited for another flick quite soon after the moderate success (but eventual cult status) of Edge Of Tomorrow. American Made arrived late in the summer season and did fairly well overall, making around $128 million off a $50 million budget.

See related Vikings renewed for season 5

The reviews were positive, too. We liked it a lot, and it's sitting at about 87% on Rt. Not bad!

If you fancy owning a copy at home, it looks like you'll be able to swing that by year's end, as the film is heading for a 26th December release date here in the UK on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray and DVD. The Us will have to wait a further two weeks,...

Review: ‘American Made’ Offers a Different Kind of Cruise
Perhaps the most interesting thing about American Made is that Tom Cruise still has the clout to get something like it into theaters. Guided by his Edge of Tomorrow collaborator Doug Liman, we are told the impossibly true story of Barry Seal, a bored pilot who becomes a C.I.A.-funded drug smuggler and living embodiment of the Reagan era’s bullshit-tery. Taking structural cues from stuff like Goodfellas and Blow, Liman has fun within the sub-sub-genre of crazy Americans doing crazy American things for a lot of money. But then, as always, it’s a bit more complicated than that. There’s a memorably (and intentionally) sloppy aesthetic style that parallels the loopy narrative and the loopy hero at its center. Much of the running time is spent in the air as Seal pulls off mid-air deliveries and impromptu landings in the middle of neighborhoods.

Mind you, this is not an action movie.

Film Review: Tom Cruise in ‘American Made’ Never Gets Off the Ground
Chicago – Tom Cruise was once a Top Gun, but his newest film “American Made” never really takes off. It wants to be a truth-is-stranger-than-fiction kind of satire where commercial airline pilot Barry Seal (Tom Cruise) winds up getting involved in the Iran Contra Affair and the Medellín drug cartel, but it never creates an enthralling place or story.

Rating: 2.0/5.0

The biggest problem is repetition. Cruise-as-Barry takes off, does reconnaissance, picks up cargo, and evades authorities. Fly, drop, repeat. And more blame starts with Tom Cruise. Sporting a bad wig, smiling through that perpetual shit eating grin and a thoroughly unconvincing Louisiana accent, Cruise is distracting in the lead role. For a man who once inhabited the role of Maverick in “Top Gun,” Cruise looks surprisingly uncomfortable at times in a cockpit.

Barry Seal starts off as a pilot for Twa who is frankly a little bored by shuttling passengers around the country.
