When I sat down to watch "Batman Returns" in 1992, even though I was only 11 years old, I was baffled by the fact that Kim Basinger wasn't in the film. I'd probably seen "Batman" (1989) a hundred times by that point -- thanks to a well-worn VHS copy with that stunning Diet Coke commercial beforehand, and as many theatrical viewings as I could muster between viewings of "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade" -- and I knew Vicki Vale had to return. She had to at least be given a send-off or mentioned somewhere, right?

Well, she was definitely mentioned. In passing. Briefly. And it was easy to miss if you weren't listening for it. 

As such a vital and important part of the first film, it felt like we were missing something. Following "Batman," jumping into the narrative landscape of "Batman Returns" felt like we were missing a few issues of comic books between them.

"Batman: Resurrection" by John Jackson Miller is a new book from Random House Worlds that feels like it came out of nowhere. The last thing I expected in the year 2024 was a novel that filled the gap between Tim Burton's "Batman" (1989) and "Batman Returns," but it is here -- and it is incredible. 

I was almost nine years old when Tim Burton's first "Batman" film was released and almost 12 when "Batman Returns" came out. Sitting in the theater for the freak flag that was "Batman Returns," I can tell you it felt like so much time had passed in that universe, and the sequel didn't really address many of the most obvious questions left by the first one. It also left out some of my favorite and most intriguing characters. Vicki Vale (Kim Basinger) and Alexander Knox (Robert Wuhl) simply disappeared.

Yes, theres now a star in the Batman's future, but it wont need to be displayed in Wayne Manor. Rather, it will be added to the Hollywood Walk of Fame (per a press release). On Thursday, September 26, the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Steve Nissen will serve as emcee and present the comic book character with star No. 2,790, and DC Comics President, CEO and publisher Jim Lee is among those scheduled to speak at the event.

McFarlane Toys has cowls based on the Batman TV series from the 1960s, Tim Burton;s 1989 Batman, and one based on the Batman: Knightfall comic from the 1990s all for sale. While they don't release until November, fans can place their pre-orders now for around $14.99 each for their favorite of the trio from usual toy retailers.

Each cowl has a display pedestal and stands about seven inches tall, the Knightfall one comes in a little taller at 7 and 3/5 inches, so there's no need to worry about them taking up a ton of space either. If these smaller replicas are not your thing, then there is another option, although it is a little harder to get your hands on right now.

Batman Day is September 21st, 2024, and to celebrate, AMC Theaters is offering fans a chance to see one of three Batman films on the big screen. Batman Day is an annual event held by DC Comics to celebrate the creation of Batman. It typically is marked with special Batman-themed promotions in comic book stores but has since spread to other promotional platforms. While the first Batman Day celebration in 2014 was held in July, since then, it has been on the third or fourth Saturday of September.

AMC Theaters will be doing special screenings of 1989's Batman, 1993's Batman: Mask of the Phantasm, and 1995's Batman Forever, which will all return to theaters for a limited time starting September 20, 2024. Fans can get reminders for when the tickets go on sale, as it is unclear if they are only for September 20th or if they will play throughout the weekend.

“Crisis” marked the biggest crossover event in the history of television by cramming in as many DC cameos into the plot as possible. Even the story itself essentially had more than five years of buildup, with the producers relentlessly teasing fans ever since the first episode of The Flash premiered back in 2014. But apart from bringing back the likes of Brandon Routh and Tom Welling in their respective roles as Superman, the five-hour special also included a lot of fresh cameos from different Earths, including one where Kevin Conroy played the Kingdom Come Dark Knight. However, it would seem that The CW originally envisioned Michael Keaton for the role.

DC fans are still reeling from the news that Michael Keaton is in talks to reprise his role as Batman in multiple Dceu movies, beginning with The Flash’s first solo outing in 2022.
