Some fans will always hope for one of their favorite actors to return to their most famous role, no matter how unlikely this is in reality. However, for every unwanted movie sequel or remake, there are some that are actually promising. Additionally, the best legacy movie sequels of all time prove that such continuations can work, especially when the talent and charisma of a particular actor is all the movie really needs to be a hit. If the biggest draw of the original movie was watching one character be amazing, people would naturally want to see more of just that.

On the other hand, some actors left major movie franchises or ongoing TV shows and people still miss their characters. Depending on the genre of the property and the circumstances of the character's departure, there is always the lingering possibility that a fan-favorite character could return in the sequel or the next season.

Doctor Who Season 15 Casts Emmy Winner As A New Villain For Ncuti Gatwa
Image
Doctor Who season 15 has now added an Emmy winner to face off against Ncuti Gatwa's Fifteenth Doctor. Gatwa's era of the long-running BBC sci-fi series kicked off with 2023's seasonal special "The Church on Ruby Road," where he first joined forces with Millie Gibson's Ruby Sunday. The Doctor and Ruby's adventures took them to deep-space warzones, alternate timelines, the Beatlemania of the 1960s, and Regency-era England before life would lead to them parting ways with one another after an emotional Doctor Who season 14 finale.

While season 15 wrapped filming in May, Deadline has reported that The Good Wife star Archie Panjabi will appear in the series when it returns to Disney Plus and BBC One in 2025. It is unknown who Panjabi will play and how many episodes she will appear since the BBC keeps details under tight wraps. However, it is confirmed the role is a villainous character.

10 Great TV Episodes That Dropped The Show's Main Character
Image
Some of the highest-rated TV episodes from a show chronicle stories that de-center the main character. Sometimes, these narratives are bottle episodes, but they don't necessarily have to fall into this format for them to focus on secondary characters. Some TV show's bottle episodes are pointless, and these detract from the overall quality of the series. However, spending time away from the protagonists and getting to know other characters can help the worldbuilding of the show and make the audience more invested in the overarching plot. Additionally, these episodes can save money and time for showrunners and producers.

There are creative ways to work around the main character's arc, and these storylines demonstrate how creative the writers of a TV series are.

Leaving out the protagonist for a few episodes doesn't indicate that a TV show is disrespectful to its main characters, as their return after a break in the...

Why Doctor Who Season 16 Hasn't Been Renewed Yet Explained By Showrunner Russell T Davies
Image
Doctor Who showrunner Russell T Davies explains why the series has not been renewed for season 16 yet. Davies kicked off a new era of Doctor Who after returning as showrunner with new Doctor Ncuti Gatwa in season 14. The series made a shift for US audiences with the long-running show now airing on Disney+. Doctor Who season 15 has been announced and production is underway.

In an interview with SFX Magazine via Games Radar, Russell details why season 16 has yet to be renewed. Russell is not concerned, as he believes the series will be picked up for another season after season 15 airs and that renewal announcements take time. With season 15 not debuting until 2025, any announcement for season 16 will likely not come for a while.

Its an industry decision, it's like any business these things take time. I think the decision will come after the transmission of season two. That's what we're expecting,...

The BBC Brushes Off Backlash To Doctor Who Season 14's Gay Romance1Q
Image
The BBC has issued a strong statement against complaints surrounding Doctor Who's gay romance between Ncuti Gatwa's Fifteenth Doctor and Jonathan Groff's Rogue. The Doctor Who season 14 episode "Rogue" saw Groff take on the role of an intergalactic bounty hunter on the trail of aliens causing chaos in Regency-era England. Upon crossing paths with the Fifteenth Doctor, their relationship is initially frayed and tense thanks to a case of mistaken identity, but quickly blossoms into something more intimate before it results in tragedy for the Time Lord.

Deadline reports that the BBC has issued an official response to complaints made about the Doctor's romance with Rogue. While two viewers issued carefully worded complaints about the episode that took issue with certain dialogue and the pace of the relationship in front of young viewers, the BBC dismissed each as not inappropriate for any audience members, no matter their age.
