Prime Video has unveiled first-look images of its The Narrow Road to The Deep North adaptation starring Jacob Elordi, which has wrapped production in Australia.

Set against the shadows of World War II, Sony Pictures Television’s series tells the epic story of Lieutenant-Colonel Dorrigo Evans (Elordi) and how his all-too-brief love affair with Amy Mulvaney (Odessa Young) shaped his life. The story is told over multiple time periods, providing a love story to sustain audiences through the darkest of times, an intimate character study illustrating the strength of the human spirit in the face of adversity, and an investigation into a marriage and an unforgettable love affair.

It’s a wrap for Jacob Elordi down under. The in-demand actor’s upcoming Amazon Prime Video miniseries The Narrow Road to the Deep North, in which he stars opposite Odessa Young in a sweeping love story spanning decades, has just completed production in New South Wales, Australia.

Produced by Prime Video, Curio Pictures, and Sony Pictures Television, the upcoming five-part drama series is based on Richard Flanagan’s Booker Prize-winning novel and has been adapted for the screen by writer Shaun Grant and directed by Justin Kurzel (Nitram, Assassin’s Creed, Macbeth).

The Japan rugby union team on Sunday thrashed tournament newcomers Chile 42-12 on the first weekend of the freshly kicked-off Rugby World Cup. But in 2015, Japan were the underdogs and yet pulled off a surprise result against rugby titans South Africa.

In the first ever match between the two nations Japan won 34-32, due to an 80th minute try.

“The Brighton Miracle,” a docu-drama capturing and re-constructing that shock match, has been picked up by Blue Sky Media. The film was produced by Syn Entertainment and the rights outside of Japan were brokered by producer’s rep Summer & Co.

The film was written and directed by Max Mannix. Mannix, himself a former professional rugby player, lived more than a decade in Japan and wrote the Kurosawa Kiyoshi-directed “Tokyo Sonata,” which debuted in Cannes Un Certain Regard in 2008.

Among the series of dramatic, to the point of heartbreak, documentaries I have watched recently, the mockumentary that is “Top Knot Detective” is a breath of fresh air, both for its main theme (a fictional 90’s Japanese TV show Ronin Suiri Tentai (Deductive Reasoning Ronin) and its creator, Takashi Takamoto, and its incredible presentation.

“Top Knot Detective” is screening at International Film Festival Rotterdam, that will be on January 24 until February 4.

For starters, let me say that Dominic Pearce and Aaron McCann have created a mockumentary so thorough and filled with information, that even knowing the whole concept is fictional, I still have troubled believing it. Comedy feature Top Knot Detective is set to air as on SBS2 next Wednesday. The film is the debut feature of co-writers and directors Aaron McCann and Dominic Pearce.

A mockumentary, Top Knot Detective was borne out of Sbs.s 2015 Comedy Runway initiative to find emerging talent. The initial pilot is on Sbs On Demand. The majority of the film was shot in Wa across 2015 and 2016, with additional principal photography in Japan and Sydney. Following a seven month hiatus after star Sullivan Stapleton suffered a major injury in Bangkok, production has resumed in Europe and Asia on the final season of Cinemax's "Strike Back".

Joining regulars Stapleton and Philip Winchester will be a host of talent lead by the one and only Michelle Yeoh.

When the War Began PosterDirector Stuart Beattie is bringing John Marsden's tale Tomorrow, When the War Began to theatres in Australia and this theatrical trailer shows a mysterious force taking over the country. Distribution for North America has not been secured for Tomorrow, but after watching the action packed clip below here is one emphatic vote for bringing the film across the Pacific Ocean.

The film follows a Red Dawn themed story where a group of teenagers band together to retake their country from the hands of an Asian invading force. The invaders identity is kept in the dark; yet, China and Japan are the only major Asian players in the Pacific who could pull off such an attack. Seems Chris Morris doesn't have a corner on the market for terrorism comedies this year.  No, the creators of very serious minded Australian thriller The Jammed have just taken a turn towards the low-brow and launched production on their terrorism / reality TV spoof Eliminated.  Here's the first official word:
