The Hong Kong box office took $3.9m (Hk$30.6m) over five days from January 28-February 1, down 37.1% on the same five-day Lunar New Year period in 2024 and 59.3% down on pre-Covid 2019.

June 22, 2018 – The 17th New York Asian Film Festival will award Hong Kong’s Stephy Tang its Screen International Rising Star Asia Award on July 7th before a screening of her film The Empty Hands.Tang, a former volleyball star and model, started out in the entertainment business as the lead singer of the phenomenally popular girls’ band The Cookies before launching her successful solo career. In addition to concerts, albums and television appearances, she started her own fashion label and wrote a romance novel. Fox Networks Group Asia (Fnga)’s Scm channel has acquired exclusive rights to crime thriller Trivisa and a slew of other films that won prizes at last week’s Hong Kong Film Awards.
Produced by Johnnie To and directed by three up-and-coming talents, Trivisa walked away with best film, best director (Jevons Au, Frank Hui & Vicky Wong), best actor (Lam Ka Tung), best screenplay and best editing at the Hong Kong Film Awards on Sunday night (April 9).
Scm also acquired exclusive rights to Wong Chun’s Mad World, which picked up three awards including best new director; Andy Lo’s Happiness (best actress for Kara Wai); Zhang Jiajia’s See You Tomorrow (best cinematography and art direction); and Soi Cheang’s The Monkey King 2 (best visual effects and make-up & costume design).

Emperor Motion Pictures (Emp) has unveiled a trio of high-profile action pictures, headed by Cold Detective, which reteams frequent Johnnie To collaborator Wai Ka-fai with star Sean Lau Ching-wan.
The suspense action drama is a loose follow-up to award-winning 2007 crime thriller Mad Detective [pictured], which starred Lau and was co-directed by Wai and To. The story revolves around the race between two rival sleuths to uncover the identity of an assassin before he strikes again.
Emp is also reteaming with As The Light Goes Out director Derek Kwok on mystery thriller Schemes In Antiques. The Beijing-set film revolves around the search for a Ming Dynasty Buddha relic.

Fox Networks Group Asia is unveiling two Chinese-language miniseries at this week’s Filmart in Hong Kong – The Trading Floor, produced by Andy Lau’s [pictured] Focus Television, and Stained, written and directed by Patrick Kong.
The Trading Floor is a 5 x 60 minute thriller set in Hong Kong’s financial industry. It has been written and will be directed by Kk Wong, director-producer of 2014 hit Hong Kong TV show The Election.
Stained, which also has a 5 x 60 minute format, is a crime thriller starring Kara Hui, Kwan-ho Tse and Anthony Wong.
Both shows are in pre-production for target delivery in 2017.
