The daughter of horror master David Cronenberg, Caitlin Cronenberg, is making her own mark in the genre filmmaking space with Humane, a dark horror satire set in an overpopulated world with grim government sanctions. We’ve got a new exclusive clip that highlights the intense stakes for a family torn apart by the government’s euthanasia program.

Humane will first be arriving in theaters courtesy of IFC Films on April 26, 2024. The film later comes home to Shudder July 26.

On March 16, 2020, Seth Rudetsky and James Wesley launched “Stars In The House” in response to what they knew would be an immediate need for funds in light of the Broadway shutdown.

To mark its one-year anniversary on March 16, the Actors Fund benefit YouTube series Stars in the House will feature a special all-new week-long series of its popular reunion episodes, bringing together the casts of The West Wing, thirtysomething, Little House on the Prairie, Broadway’s Head Over Heels and other surprises.

Since launched by Seth Rudetsky and James Wesley last year following Broadway’s Covid shutdown, more than 375 episodes of Stars In The House has raised over $715,000 for The Actors Fund, and an additional $200,000 for other charity organizations needing support throughout the pandemic.

With a wonderfully grotesque case, an epic Ainsley troll, and the introduction of two of the biggest stars joining the season, Prodigal Son Season 2 Episode 7 threw a lot at us.

Thanks to an earth-shattering voice and impeccable comedic chops, Bonnie Milligan made one of the most talked about Broadway debuts of the season in “Head Over Heels.” Even though the show has been closed for months, she remains hotly competitive in the Tony race for Best Featured Actress in a Musical.

“Head Over Heels” is a deliciously camp mashup of genres and tropes. It uses the music of The Go-Go’s to adapt a 16th century prose poem by Sir Philip Sidney called “Arcadia” (the poem is often cited as inspiration for Shakespeare’s “As You Like It”). So when characters aren’t singing and grooving to “the beat,” they’re speaking in heightened prose. Think Heath Ledger’s “A Knight’s Tale,” but instead of classic rock infiltrating this Victorian setting, it’s a mix of 80’s era MTV and queer sensibilities lifted from ball culture.

Head Over Heels, the Broadway musical featuring songs from The Go-Go’s including the title tune, “We Got The Beat” and “Our Lips Are Sealed” will play its final performance Sunday, Jan. 6, 2019, producers announced today.

The musical, which opened at the Hudson Theatre on July 26, will have played 188 regular performances and 37 previews by the time it closes next month. The production, greeted by mixed reviews, never caught fire at the box office, and has been struggling in recent weeks with grosses hovering around 20% of a

$883,552 box office potential. Even during weeks when 60% of seats were filled, modest average ticket prices of $61 kept box office far from reaching potential.

“Along with my partners, creative team and cast, it was our desire to create a piece of live theatre that celebrates love of all kinds and portrays a world of beauty in which joy and acceptance reign above all else,” said lead producer Christine Russell.

The Tony Awards Administration Committee met for the first time in the 2018-2019 Broadway season, and announced the first round of Tony Awards eligibility rulings. Seven productions were discussed at this meeting: “The Boys in the Band,” “Straight White Men,” “Head Over Heels,” “Gettin’ the Band Back Together,” “Pretty Woman,” “Bernhardt/Hamlet,” and “The Nap.”

The Tonys committee made the following determinations:

“The Boys in the Band” will be considered a revival per the “classic” rule and eligible for Best Play Revival.

Jim Parsons will be eligible for Lead Actor in a Play for “The Boys in the Band.”

Julian Crouch (scenic designer) and Andrew Lazarow (projection designer) will be considered jointly eligible for Best Scenic Design of a Musical for “Head Over Heels.”

Mitchell Jarvis will be eligible for Lead Actor in a Musical for “Gettin’ the Band Back Together.”

It’s really hard to laugh when somebody’s holding a gun to your head. That’s the way this Go-Go’s feels in “Head Over Heels,” an over-written, over-designed, and generally overdone production directed by Michael Mayer. From the sets and costumes to the performance style, the basic principle seems to be: Less is boring and more is never enough. Thanks, no doubt, to the Oracle of Delphi (played here by the impishly funny Peppermint), it’s a miracle that at least some of the wit in Jeff Whitty’s original book gets through.

The storyline is credited to Sir Philip Sidney, an Elizabethan sonneteer whose 180,000-word narrative poem, “The Arcadia,” inspired many other imitations. Not that there’s anything wrong with that. If Shakespeare could crib from this rom-com material (see “As You Like It”), so can Whitty and James Magruder, who did the adaptation for this Broadway production.

For better or worse, Broadway’s Head Over Heels is stuck with being known as “the Go-Go’s musical” – better because of the good will floating on stage with all those lighter-than-air hits by Belinda Carlisle, Jane Wiedlin, et.al., worse because the hard-working new production can’t seem to keep itself from popping those effervescence tune bubbles one by one.

With the Go-Go’s music shotgun-wedded to Sir Philip Sidney’s 16th century prose poem The Arcadia – a marriage conceived by Avenue Q‘s Jeff Whitty, who wrote the original book before splitting, reportedly in part over his inclination to rewrite some of the Go-Go’s lyrics – Head Over Heels is Elizabethan farce by way of ye olde MTV. The verse may be archaic, but the we’re here sentiment is as up to date as last week’s episode of RuPaul’s Drag Race.

The area of intersection between fans of iambic pentameter and doers of the “Cool Jerk” may be a limited one, so you can imagine the initial chore in store for anyone charged with targeting the exact crossover audience that will most enjoy “Head Over Heels,” now and maybe forever to be popularly known as “that Go-Go’s musical produced by Gwyneth Paltrow.” Rather than being a “Jersey Boys”-style origin story about the pioneering all-female band, the story harks back to very olde England, with a cast of royal-court types offering intermittently Elizabethan-sounding dialogue between all the rocking out. Surely “Thy Lips are Sealed” popped up at some point on a list of discarded alternate titles.

The mix of ’80s music and 1680s setting is every bit as ridiculous as it sounds, and that’s a good thing, for the most part. Perhaps appropriately for a show whose themes end...

Samuel Goldwyn Films has debuted a trailer for an indie romantic comedy called It Had to Be You, about a woman who freaks out when she learns her boyfriend is going to propose to her. Actress Cristin Milioti (seen in The Wolf of Wall Street, The Brass Teapot, "Fargo", "The Mindy Project") stars, with Dan Soder, Halley Feiffer, Kate Simses, Erica Sweany, Mark Gessner and Rachel York. This is definitely very quirky, but there's also some charm to it, mostly because Cristin Milioti is quite talented and it's nice to see her in a fun role like this. Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS held its 30th annual Easter Bonnet Competition April 25–26 at the Minskoff Theatre, celebrating a record-breaking culmination of weeks of fundraising on and Off-Broadway. Featuring over 230 performers and 17 impeccably crafted bonnets, the two-day event included performances from the casts of several popular Broadway shows, including “Chicago,” “The Lion King,” and “School of Rock,” the latter of which included a surprise appearance by rock legend Stevie Nicks. Presenters included such stars of the Great White Way as Cynthia Erivo, Leslie Odom Jr., Carmen Cusack, Kerry Butler, Jennifer Simard, Alex Brightman, Adam Kantor, and Alexandra Silber. Aaron Sorkin, Oscar winner for David Fincher's The Social Network, will be responsible for the screenplay. According to Entertainment Weekly, the Lucille Ball film biopic will focus on Ball's two-decade marriage to her I Love Lucy costar Desi Arnaz. In 1960, the couple had an acrimonious divorce that supposedly “shocked” clueless fans unable to tell the difference between TV reality and real-life reality. Called a rambunctious, uproarious, unpredictable all-star concert by The Wall Street Journal, Night Of A Thousand Judys will honor the iconic Judy Garland with special skits, tributes and songs from her legendary career as movie star, recording artist and stage performer. There will be a pre-show VIP reception at 630 Pm and the performance at 800 Pm.

Primary Stages just held their annual Gala last night, November 3, 2014 at 583 Park Avenue. The event celebrated the company's 30th anniversary and honor Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Donald Margulies and award-winning producer, Julian Schlossberg. The Honorary Gala Co-Chairs are Brian d'Arcy James, Laura Linney, Elaine May, and Susan Stroman. The evening featured performances and tributes by Tony nominee Nick Corderoperforming from Bullets over Broadway, Charles Busch, Judy Gold, David Ives, the creators of In Transit, Tony winner Frank Langella, Elaine May, Tony winner Billy Porter, Marlo Thomas, Rachel York, and surprise guests.
