I'll be honest: if your tolerance for cringe comedy is low, "The Comeback," the HBO series that stars Lisa Kudrow fresh off her turn in "Friends," may not be for you. I would, however, urge you to give it a shot even if your shoulders ache from said cringing, because it's one of the funniest shows the premium network has ever made, and it's returning for a third and final season after its second outing concluded in 2014.

Lisa Kudrow is stepping back into one of her most loved roles, and this time it’s official—HBO is bringing back “The Comeback” for a third season. The network confirmed the news after the show’s 20th anniversary on June 5.
Created by Kudrow and Michael Patrick King, the comedy series first came out in 2005. It was revived for a second season in 2014, and now, after more than a decade, it’s set to return again in 2026. HBO says this will be the “final season,” but considering how the show keeps coming back, that label might not really mean much.
Kudrow returns as Valerie Cherish, a former sitcom actress who’s always chasing her big moment. She’ll be joined by Dan Bucatinsky as her publicist, Laura Silverman as Jane, the producer behind the reality show inside the show, and Damian Young as her husband Mark.

After celebrating its 20th anniversary on June 5, the comedy series “The Comeback” is officially coming back for a third season on HBO. The show, co-created by Lisa Kudrow and Michael Patrick King, stars Kudrow as Valerie Cherish, a struggling actress trying to make a comeback.
Even though the announcement calls this the “final season,” fans might want to take that with a grain of salt. Since the show first aired in 2005, returned in 2014, and is now set to come back again in 2026 after starting production this summer, the idea of “final” doesn’t feel so final.
Lisa Kudrow will be back as Valerie, along with Dan Bucatinsky playing her publicist, Laura Silverman as Jane, the reality show producer, and Damian Young as Mark, Valerie’s husband. Sadly, Robert Michael Morris, who played Valerie’s best friend and hair stylist Mickey and passed away in 2017, won’t be returning. The 2014 season...

It has been 20 years since the first season debuted in 2005, and 11 years since Season 2 aired in 2014.

Lisa Kudrow is primarily known for her role as Phoebe Buffay in Friends. One year after the ten-season hit sitcom ended, the actress scored her own sitcom, The Comeback.
The satirical sitcom premiered on June 5, 2005, and aired for 13 episodes before it was canceled. Honoring its name, the comedy series returned after nine years with a new season of eight episodes, which aired from Nov. 9 to Dec. 28, 2014. Deadline reports Lisa Kudrow is now officially making a comeback, as the series The Comeback has been revived for a third and final season.
The series was created by Kudrow herself in collaboration with Sex and the City producer and director Michael Patrick King. The comedy gave a look inside the entertainment industry, and was shot by a two-camera crew. Kudrow played Valerie Cherish, a veteran B-list sitcom actress who fell out of the spotlight. Lisa Kudrow and HBO aren’t letting the Friends star’s cult comedy go without a proper goodbye, and so it is that The Comeback is getting revived for a third and final season. The series, created by Michael Patrick King and Lisa Kudrow, celebrated the 20th anniversary of its launch earlier this month, making today’s news monumental for fans. The revival speaks to the show’s lasting appeal, Kudrow’s endearing screen presence, and HBO’s desire to bring a familiar face back for more much-needed laughs.
The third and final season of The Comeback heads to production this summer for a 2026 HBO and HBO Max debut. In The Comeback, Lisa Kudrow plays Valerie Cherish, an ex-a-list celebrity attempting to rekindle the flame of her once prominent acting career with nothing but a camera crew and some determination.

Every 10 years, it looks as though Lisa Kudrow will stage a brand-new “Comeback.” Exactly 20 years after the beloved comedy series’ first season debuted in 2005, and 10 years after Season 2 in 2015, Kudrow officially is reprising her cult favorite role of Valerie Cherish for “The Comeback” Season 3.
Creator Michael Patrick King, who is now pulling double duty at HBO with “And Just Like That,” will return as showrunner. Lisa Kudrow's The Comeback is making its comeback for a third season, 11 years after the last season premiered and 21 years after the ending of Friends. The Comeback follows Valerie Cherish (Kudrow), a former sitcom actor who gets a second big break a decade later, with the caveat that she has to star in a reality TV show at the same time. The series originally debuted in 2005, though The Comeback season 2 wasn't released until 2014. It was easily one of Lisa Kudrow's best performances and a great follow-up to the ending of Friends, and now The Comeback is back for more.
Now, Warner Bros. has confirmed that The Comeback season 3 will be released 11 years after season 2 ended. Lisa Kudrow will reprise her role as Valerie Cherish, and Dan Bucatinsky, Laura Silverman, and Damian Young are all returning as well. Kudrow co-created The Comeback with Michael Patrick King, who is also returning for the third season.

Two decades after it premiered — and nearly 11 years after its most recent installment — The Comeback is making another comeback.
HBO announced a third, and final, season of the comedy starring Lisa Kudrow on Friday. The show, created by Kudrow and Michael Patrick King (And Just Like That), will begin production later in the summer for a 2026 premiere.
The Comeback stars Kudrow as Valerie Cherish, an actress who appeared on a hit sitcom in the early 1990s who’s trying to make her way back into the spotlight. The first season, which premiered in June 2005, follows her as she’s cast in a new comedy, with the stipulation that she also appear in a reality show about the making of the scripted series.
Season two saw Valerie cast in an HBO project about the sitcom writer who made her life hell in season one, earning widespread acclaim professionally even as her personal life was falling apart.

After having celebrated its 20th anniversary on June 5, “The Comeback” — the beloved comedy co-created by Lisa Kudrow and Michael Patrick King that stars Kudrow as actress Valerie Cherish — has been renewed at HBO for Season 3. The announcement also says “final season,” but when a show has been on once in 2005, a second time in 2014, and will be again in 2026 the word “final” feels meaningless, and we reject it.
Kudrow returns as Valerie, of course, alongside Dan Bucatinsky (who plays Val’s publicist), Laura Silverman and Damian Young. There have been countless scandals involving game shows over the years. The most famous adaptation of such an event was Robert Redford’s acclaimed Quiz Show, starring Ralph Fiennes and John Turturro. Still, there have been more recent instances, including a bizarre one in 1984 involving a man who figured out how to beat one of the most popular game shows on American television, Press Your Luck. The Luckiest Man in America dramatizes that event with a fantastic cast led by Paul Walter Hauser.

As he begins to win record-breaking prizes, those behind the scenes figure out he may be doing more than just playing the game. As the truth becomes apparent, Michael’s true motivations become evident, revealing a...

Plot: Based on a true story, the film is set in May 1984, when an unemployed ice cream truck driver from Ohio steps onto the game show Press Your Luck, harboring a big secret: the key to endless amounts of money. His winning streak is threatened when the bewildered executives in the control room start to uncover his real motivations.
Review: As someone who has been trying to get on Jeopardy! for a while, I have always been fascinated with the contestants’ backstories who have made their way onto shows watched by millions. While few controversies have compared to the one chronicled in Robert Redford’s Quiz Show, the circumstances surrounding Michael Larson’s then-record-breaking appearance on Press Your Luck is a bizarre chapter in pop culture history. The Luckiest Man in America dramatizes the events of Larson’s run on the popular game show with the great Paul Walter Hauser in another fantastic performance.

Playing like the kinkier granddaughter of Russ Meyers’ Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill!, Annapurna Sriram’s Fucktoys has an axe to grind, and then some. At its core, this is a critique of modern capitalism that feels increasingly relevant, arriving in a time when billionaires are forcing the middle and lower-middle class to go on a diet budget. Younger people have been squeezed, left behind, and fucked-over by a massive transfer of wealth and, in turn, some have viewed young generations as a commodity to project their fantasies. In essence, if you’re unlucky in this economy, you might find yourself becoming a fucktoy. Needless to say, this is a film that’s not safe for work or polite society.

After her tooth falls out, AP, the young woman at the center of Annapurna Sriram’s delightfully audacious feature debut F*cktoys, visits a tarot reader for answers. The cards — an upright Sun, a Five of Cups and the Hanged Man — are not in her favor. The bad news, according to her seer (Big Freedia), is that someone has cursed AP (played by Sriram). The good news? The doomed sex worker can change her luck with one thousand dollars and a sacrificial lamb.
F*cktoys, which won a special jury prize in the narrative feature competition after its SXSW premiere, follows AP as she embarks on a chaotic journey to spiritual freedom. Her adventures through Trashtown, U.S.A, the fictional locale where the film is set, are marked by unexpected reunions, surprise encounters and occasional flirtations with real danger. Sriram takes bold swings in F*cktoys, which adopts John...

With a title like “Fucktoys,” Annapurna Sriram’s directorial debut boldly announces its wild intentions. A provocative name like that has been known to backfire, especially as it can over-inflate one’s expectations for the gonzo filmmaking they’re about to witness. But Sriram’s movie — a grotesque odyssey through a place called Trashtown, which has shades of New Orleans and a hint of Los Angeles — is at least impressively strange. It’s the kind of project that, despite some flaws, allows Sriram to stake her claim as a filmmaker to watch, with a distinctive voice that mashes up rockabilly aesthetics with Tarot mysticism and an incredible dig at James Franco. This is the kind of thing you want to see at a festival like SXSW: Messy, but wholly original in its genre mashup.
As an actress, Sriram appeared on the likes of “Billions” and “The Blacklist,” shows that are tonally miles apart from “Fucktoys.

This follows a liver transplant the actor received, along with several Instagram posts which had alarmed some friends and fans, with the images portraying an extremely gaunt Trachtenberg. As The New York Post writes, "Trachtenberg was found by her mother at around 8 a.m. Wednesday at One Columbus Place, a 51-story luxury apartment complex in Manhattan’s Central Park South neighborhood, the sources said [...] The NYPD confirmed Trachtenberg was found 'unconscious and unresponsive' by police and pronounced dead by Ems workers."

A super-meta, super-prescient skewering of the showbiz world, and in particular, the relatively primitive phenomena of celebrity reality TV, “The Comeback” looked destined for the status of one-season wonder when HBO pulled the plug in 2005. “I was aware that it was mainly straight, white guys who couldn’t watch it,” its star Lisa Kudrow later acknowledged, perhaps explaining how douchebro counterpart “Entourage” — whose ratings it often matched — was allowed to run for eight (plus a truly loathsome film).
Thankfully, after a nine-year period in which the show had been reevaluated as a cult classic, Kudrow and co-creator Michael Patrick King were afforded the opportunity to reintroduce their glorious comic creation, the egotistical yet strangely sympathetic enigma that is Valerie Cherish for a second season. That hurrah ran beginning November 9, 2014, and inspired the very opposite response to her well-worn catchphrase, “I don’t want to see that.”

The Air Jordan movie, directed by Ben Affleck, focuses on the story of salesman Sonny Vaccaro planning to sign Michael Jordan to a contract with Nike. Jordan is intentionally sidelined as a sign of respect and to avoid distracting audiences. Ben Affleck believed that having an actor portray Michael Jordan would be too distracting for audiences, as they would reject the idea of someone pretending to be him. Jordan's absence reinforces his mystique and legacy. The original script for Air included a moment where audiences would see Jordan's face, but the decision was made to leave him out completely due to the potential scrutiny and distraction it could cause. Leaving him out allows the film to focus on the business side and strengthen Jordan's legacy.
The Air Jordan movie is Ben Affleck's take on the story of Nike creating the famous shoes, but Michael Jordan is not in Air for a good reason.

If you’re looking for a slam dunk movie that tells the true story behind what’s now a household name, find out where to watch Air.
Air is a retelling of the story behind one of the biggest business partnerships the world has ever seen. This partnership was between two surprising underdogs at the time, Michael Jordan and Nike’s basketball division. Nike’s Marketing VP and CEO sent out a basketball talent scout to bring them back a player that would fill some big shoes — being their new spokesperson. The scout came back with Michael Jordan and the rest, as you probably know, is history (that’s explored in an entertaining fashion in this movie)!

Editor's Note: The following article contains spoilers for Air.If you have seen Ben Affleck’s latest film, Air, you now realize that Michael Jordan, portrayed by Damian Young, is barely in the film. While Jordan is in the film, he’s generally in the background throughout the entire story. Young's face is never shown while he performs as Jordan. Jordan’s only full appearances in the film are from real-life archival clips, images, and footage, and those clips come off as a much more natural choice for the overall betterment of the viewing experience. Instead of integrating Young's Jordan as a fully realized character in Air, Affleck opts to focus on the backroom deals and the Nike employees attempting to secure the Michael Jordan sponsorship contract by negotiating with Jordan’s inner circle. Affleck and screenwriter Alex Convery's narrative decision was clear and deliberate, and it was ultimately...

Based on a true story, Air has a hopeful ending that leaves audiences waiting with bated breath despite knowing what’s to come. Directed by Ben Affleck from a screenplay by Alex Convery, Air tells the story behind famed basketball player Michael Jordan’s historic deal with Nike, which ultimately changed the game for all involved.
Air premiered at the 2023 SXSW Film Festival and received a positive critical reception. A crowd-pleasing sports drama starring Matt Damon, Jason Bateman, Viola Davis, and Chris Tucker, Air ends with marketing executive Sonny Vaccaro and his team getting Michael Jordan signed with Nike in a massive deal that would benefit the shoe company and the athlete for decades. Before Jordan signed Nike, however, his mother Deloris Jordan stipulated that her son received a percentage of the revenue from the sale of each Air Jordan, and a car.

Legendary basketball player Michael Jordan is portrayed by an up-and-coming actor in Air, though not much is seen of him in the movie. Flashing back to the 1980s, Air tells the true story of how Nike shoe salesman Sonny Vaccaro hatched a plan to sign basketball rookie Michael Jordan to a revolutionary deal with the brand, which would go on to be the famous Air Jordan shoeline. Directed by Ben Affleck with a leading cast that includes Affleck himself, Matt Damon, Jason Bateman, and Viola Davis, Air is already a hit with critics as it boasts a Fresh 98% score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Ben Affleck wants to make sure you know that his new movie as a director, Air, is set in 1984. The film opens with a blizzard of images and sounds from that time, ranging from Ronald Reagan’s reelection to the “Where’s the beef?” Wendy’s commercials, to just about any other specific visual cue you can think of from that year. Once that’s over, however, the needle drops pick up the slack almost to a fault: We hear the “you’re motoring” line from Night Ranger’s “Sister Christian” in a shot of a car in motion. Meanwhile Big Country’s “In A Big Country” blares over another shot of a car driving through the wilds of North Carolina.

Ahead of the release of Ben Affleck's fifth directorial effort Air next month, the actor-turned-director has shared why the film, which tells the story of salesman Sonny Vaccaro (Matt Damon) and his signing of a then-newcomer Michael Jordan to Nike, contains a deliberate lack of its main muse. While the film boasts such star power as Damon and Affleck—who appears as Nike founder Phil Knight—alongside Viola Davis and real-life husband Julius Tennon in the role of Jordan's parents, the character of Jordan appears only from behind (Damian Young) while Jordan himself is notably absent from the film altogether.

When Ben Affleck’s already critically beloved “Air” arrives in theaters next month, audiences will be treated to some serious star power on the big screen, with Affleck himself taking on the role of Nike founder Phil Knight, plus Matt Damon as marketing guru Sonny Vaccaro and Viola Davis and her real-life husband Julius Tennon as Michael Jordan’s parents Deloris and James.
Not present, however, is Jordan himself. While Affleck and Amazon Studios haven’t hidden the fact that “Air,” which chronicles Vaccaro’s attempts to sign a then-rookie Jordan to the floundering Nike label, barely includes the basketball superstar, Affleck’s actual reason for the artistic choice has been less discussed.
At a special screening of “Air” held on Monday evening in New York City, Affleck opened up about the choice to not include young Jordan as a true character in the film.

Los Angeles, March 19 (Ians) Hollywood star Ben Affleck said that he never would have made ‘Air’ without Michael Jordan’s blessing, but that blessing came with one major request. Her name? Viola Davis.
Directed by Affleck, the movie stars Matt Damon as Sonny Vaccaro, the Nike employee who convinced Jordan (Damian Young) to sign the deal that allowed for the creation of the Air Jordan shoe line, reports Variety.
Affleck also stars as Nike co-founder Phil Knight.
Introducing ‘Air’ at its South by Southwest world premiere, Affleck said: “I had a chance to sit down with Michael Jordan, because I just wasn’t going to make this movie without asking him, ‘What matters to you?’ Interestingly, and tellingly, he had a few things that mattered.”
“One of them was that Howard White needed to be in the movie,” Affleck said, referring to the vice president of the Jordan brand. Hearing...
Directed by Affleck, the movie stars Matt Damon as Sonny Vaccaro, the Nike employee who convinced Jordan (Damian Young) to sign the deal that allowed for the creation of the Air Jordan shoe line, reports Variety.

Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, Viola Davis and Chris Tucker scored a standing ovation at South by Southwest on Saturday night with their closing night film. “Air” was an immediate Mvp, even without the attendance of its subject, basketball legend Michael Jordan.
One year after “Everything Everywhere All at Once” debuted at SXSW on its way to seven Oscar wins, the Austin festival launched another major crowd pleaser.
“Air,” directed by Affleck and written by Alex Convery, received not only rapturous applause when its credits rolled, but also sustained cheering throughout the inspirational film — particularly in scenes involving Davis as Deloris Jordan, negotiating with Nike’s Sonny Vaccaro (Matt Damon) for her son’s worth.
The film follows the origin story of Nike’s Air Jordan shoe line, which began with Vaccaro’s strong belief in Michael Jordan (Damian Young) when he was just a rookie. On top of directing, Affleck...

Directed by Affleck, the movie stars Matt Damon as Sonny Vaccaro, the Nike employee who convinced Jordan (Damian Young) to sign the deal that allowed for the creation of the Air Jordan shoe line. Affleck also stars as Nike co-founder Phil Knight.
