It wouldn’t be a Big Mouth gathering if someone from the Netflix animated series didn’t offer up an embarrassing sexual factoid from their own adolescent history. And it was Ayo Edebiri who took the prize during a post-screening Q&a session at the Egyptian Theatre for the show’s eighth and final season, revealing a roster of surprisingly eclectic childhood celebrity crushes.
Edebiri, who began as a writer on the show in its fourth season before taking over the role of Missy — and later becoming a breakout star as a writer, producer, and Emmy-winning actress on The Bear — rattled off a string of TV favorites that had captured her young fancy.
There was Tony Danza (“I used to have a big crush on him [from] Who’s the Boss reruns”), Tony Shalhoub, and The Famous Jett Jackson star Lee Thompson Young (“age-appropriate”). “And I liked John Ritter,” she added,...

"Smallville" ran for 10 seasons, but its impact can't be measured only by how long it stayed on the air. The CW's Arrowverse doesn't exist without "Smallville." Now, "Arrow" did not share a continuity with "Smallville" and it recast its Oliver Queen. But still, even without "Arrow" being a proper "Smallville" spin-off, The CW greenlighting a Green Arrow show clearly happened because "Smallville" had introduced the character to their audience.
But there could've been a Green Arrow-led TV series much sooner, one starring Justin Hartley. During "Smallville" season 6, writer Steven DeKnight was working on a Justice League spin-off.
Beginning in season 4 of "Smallville," Clark Kent (Tom Welling) slowly begins meeting other DC superheroes. In "Run," it's Bart Allen/Impulse (Kyle Gallner). Season 5 had Arthur Curry/Aquaman (Alan Ritchson) in "Aqua" and then Victor Stone/Cyborg (Lee Thompson Young) in, well, "Cyborg." Then season 6 brought in Green Arrow (Hartley) as a recurring character.

In the 2010s, the success of Arrow resulted in a Flash spinoff series and eventually the entire Arrowverse. Despite being its spiritual successor, Smallvillenever went down this path. However, it wasn't for a lack of trying, and as recently as two years ago, there was still interest in reviving the beloved Superman series.
Smallville was a smash hit that lasted 10 seasons, but none of its potential spinoffs even got a single season. Only one of the conceptualized spinoffs even had a pilot produced, even after the CW drama went out of its way to include multiple backdoor pilots. Every proposed spinoff would have starred at least one iconic DC hero, and with fans having only recently learned about some of them, it's possible there are still pitches that haven't been unveiled.
Aquaman Had a Full Pilot Produced
Arthur "AC" Curry, Aka Aquaman, made his debut on Smallville in Season 5, Episode 4, "Aqua.

Viewers who have watched Smallville (2001-2011) all the way through might remember actor Shawn Ashmore's first appearance as Eric Summers in the Season 1 episode, "Leech." In the early days of Smallville, the show had what Michael Rosenbaum (Lex Luthor) has dubbed on his rewatch podcast, Talk Ville, a freak-of-the-week formula. Most episodes dealt with someone in town who was somehow affected by Kryptonite -- called meteor rock at this stage -- which generally lent itself to strange abilities or powers. The episode with Eric Summers was unique in that it showcased what would happen if another person gained Clark Kent's (Tom Welling) superhuman abilities. This led to more appearances by Ashmore during the run of the series.

Smallville was a series that, by the middle of its run, had something of an identity crisis. Starting out as a sort of Superman prequel focused squarely on the youth of Clark Kent, it became a show that both wanted to embrace Superman's mythos while also actively avoiding it. To this end, other DC characters appeared, eventually forming an iconic team.
Simply referred to as "the League," Clark's group of allies in Smallville were meant to be a prototype version of the Justice League from the comics. While the roster included many of the heroes associated with the group in the comics, it also had a few somewhat unfamiliar faces. Given that they appeared in Smallville of all shows, there were also numerous changes to the source material.

"Smallville" began as a Superman origin story, showing Clark Kent (Tom Welling) growing up as a Kansas farm boy in the early aughts. His best friend? Lex Luthor (Michael Rosenbaum), of course! About halfway through, it became a straight-up Superman show that just didn't have the title or costume. Once you introduce the Justice League, you're out of the "prequel" period.
As this change happened, "Smallville" got very liberal about bringing in DC Comics characters — Clark even fought friggin' Darkseid in the 10th and final season! That makes two big absences stand out all the more. Batman and Wonder Woman, Superman's closest comrades and fellow parts of the DC Trinity, never show up in "Smallville."
At the 2024 TerrifiCon convention, Welling revealed it wasn't only fans who wanted Batman to pop in on "Smallville." Welling, though, said his ideal crossover would've been more low-key and free of any black, pointy-eared costumes:...

Columbus Short's real-world behavioral issues, including substance abuse, led to his character's exit from Scandal. Short's off-set issues caused weaker storylines for his character, Harrison Wright, on Scandal. Since leaving Scandal, Columbus Short has continued to act in various roles and expressed interest in returning to a Shondaverse show.
Fans of Scandal were probably confused when Harrison Wright was suddenly off the show, but Columbus Short has since come out about the real reason he exited the series. The hit political thriller Scandal lasted for seven seasons before its series finale on April 19, 2018, which closed the book on Olivia Pope's (Kerry Washington) career as a DC political operative and fixer. By the end of the show, some characters on Scandal had received their fitting ends while others may have got the short end of the stick.

When it comes to live-action interpretations of the Man of Steel, Smallville was always on a different level. For starters, Tom Welling didn't play Superman himself (at least not until the end), but rather a younger Clark Kent as he discovered his origins, his powers, and ultimately his destiny. The impressive 10-season series consisted of 218 episodes and was responsible for bringing many DC Comics heroes to life on screen for the very first time, such as Green Arrow (Justin Hartley), Aquaman (Alan Ritchson), and Cyborg (Lee Thompson Young). But after over a decade off the air, buzz about a potential Smallville reunion can't help but get fans excited about more, only this time, the story should really be told in animation. Here's why.

Shifting the focus to other characters through narration provides additional insights and a more comprehensive understanding of the beloved figures in Scrubs. Lucy, Derek, and Sunny's attempts at narration fell short compared to J.D.'s unique perspective, showing the irreplaceable essence of J.D.'s narration in the show. The episodes that feature narration from other characters allow for exploration of new dimensions and character growth, but ultimately highlight the importance of J.D.'s endearing filter and unique flair in narrating Scrubs.
Almost every episode of Scrubs, medical intern John “J.D.” Dorian is the narrator, infusing his humor, wit and internal insights based on the situations happening around him. There have, however, been times when he passed the voice-over torch, offering a glimpse into the minds of other characters from the series. While J.D.'s perspective dominates the show through his colorful narration, several episodes shift the focus to other characters.

Smallville's Justice League brought together powerful heroes from the DC Universe, each with their unique skills and abilities. From the acrobatic Black Canary to the resourceful Green Arrow and the super-fast Impulse, the team's members brought their specific talents to the table. However, it was Superman who ultimately became the strongest Justice League member, mastering all of his signature powers and facing powerful villains in epic battles.
Smallville's Justice League featured some big names, but despite all of the team's heroes having an interesting skill set, some were more powerful than others. While Smallville focused on the journey of Tom Welling's Clark Kent from a high school student to Superman, with the character only suiting up in the series finale, later seasons of the series introduced several heroes from the DC Universe. Smallville's Justice League is brought to life in stunning fan art, showcasing Tom Welling's Superman alongside his co-stars in their respective costumes. Bart Allen, also known as Impulse, finally gets to wear an armored Flash suit in the artwork, resembling the one worn by Ezra Miller's Scarlet Speedster. Ah, the glory days of early 2000s television, when studios scrambled to capitalize on the success of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," "Friends," and "Beverly Hills, 90210." Enter The WB's "Smallville," a Superman prequel based on the blue boy's formative years, before he donned the tights, red underwear, and cape. Starring Tom Welling as Clark Kent, Kristin Kreuk as Lana Lane, Michael Rosenbaum as Lex Luthor, Sam Jones III as Pete Ross, and Allison Mack as Chloe Sullivan, the series offered a fun spin on the Superman story and tinkered with iconic characters in a way that made them feel fresh. Lex Luthor, for example, starts out as Clark's best friend and gradually devolves into his comic-book counterpart. At the same time, Superman regulars such as Lois Lane (Erica Durance), Jimmy Olsen (Aaron Ashmore), and Supergirl (Laura Vandervoort) were given makeovers to properly update them for the modern era; ditto...

Rizzoli and Isles haven't solved a new case on TV in nearly six years.
While Tess Gerritsen continues to write new novels on the beloved duo, we've been left with a significant gap in our lives as their lives go on without us bearing witness on-screen.
The iconic duo of Angie Harmon and Sasha Alexander were TV staples for over 100 episodes, but what are they (and the rest of the cast) doing now?
In Memorium: Lee Thompson Young -- Detective Barry Frost
Lee Thompson Young, who played Detective Frost (one of Jane Rizzoli's closest co-workers), tragically passed away in 2013 before the filming of Season Five.
Detective Frost's death got handled beautifully by the writers, from his death in Rizzoli and Isles Season 5 Episode 1 to Jane seeing a vision of him in Rizzoli and Isles Season 5 Episode 18.
The episodes throughout Season Five left us crying, laughing, and missing Lee Thompson Young's presence on our screens.

Rizzoli & Isles acknowledged the death of their colleague, Lee Thompson Young, on a credit roll in August of 2013, but it was in tonight’s episode, “Goodbye,” where they sadly addressed the death of the character he played — Detective Barry Frost and said goodbye to Lee Thompson Young. Lee, 29, was found dead in his North Hollywood home last August of an apparent suicide. Much of this episode captured real emotion on the part of the cast. Tonight's television offerings brought us some sadness, some happiness, some whaaaaaat, and several awws as we said goodbye to a couple shows and one beloved character. We also got to welcome one show back into our lives, and got to play with not one, not two, but two and a half babies. Plus, was Aviva faking her asthma on Real Housewives of New York? We may never know, but continue on to hear how the drama played out. Rizzoli & Isles: It's back, but in a bittersweet sort of way. Tonight was not only the first episode of season 5, but it was also the first episode to deal with the absence of Lee Thompson Young, who died last August. At the beginning of the episode, Korsak explained that Frost was still on a...

Because she's the only witness to what happened to the Lady Regent of the Vale, the eldest Stark daughter is suddenly thrust into a position of power. As this preview implies, Sansa holds Littlefinger's fate in her hands. But will she actually testify against the man who helped her escape King's Landing? Let's just say that her choice will show exactly how far she's come in playing the game.

As we say our goodbye to 2013, GossipCenter remembers the remarkable icons and Hollywood legends lost over the past year.
Whether it was winning the hearts of young ladies by singing popular tunes on "Glee" or assising millions of movie-goes making their big screen pick with reputable reviews, the stars we lost this year will never be forgotten.
Cory Monteith:
Making for one of the most memorable moments of 2013, the "Glee" star passed away in his Vancouver hotel room from an overdose on July 13. Cory was only 31 years old leaving behind a touching mark on Hollywood and further opened up the conversation for substance abuse prevention.
Though many of his industry pals felt the tragic loss, his girlfriend Lea Michele was arguably the hardest hit with the news. It took some time, but Lea eventually opened up about her loss and said, “Thank you all for helping me through this...

From Cory to Paul to Nelson Mandela, we lost many great, talented people in the year 2013. They may be gone, but they will not be forgotten.
The world lost a fair share of legends in 2013, in the entertainment industry and outside of it. But with every star, like Nelson Mandela and Paul Walker, the amazing outpouring of support and love that followed their deaths proved how much they meant to the world. The year now ending marks another 12-month period of losing talents who have given television viewers entertainment or information ... and some of those passings, even more sadly, came as major and untimely shocks. Zap2it remembers:
Paul Walker: The actor best-known for the "Fast & Furious" movies had career roots in such TV shows as "Who's the Boss?" "Highway to Heaven" and "Touched by an Angel."
James Gandolfini: He projected so much older as mobster Tony Soprano, many were surprised to learn the three-time Emmy winner only was in his 30s and 40s when he played the part.
Cory Monteith: As Finn Hudson on "Glee," the Canadian-born performer touched fans of all ages both in life and afterward.
Jean Stapleton: Forever TV's top "dingbat," the "All in the Family" actress earned three Emmys as lovably daffy Edith Bunker.

For this Thanksgiving week edition of Lone Star Cinema, I selected an influential football film from the mid-aughts. Before the acclaimed series Friday Night Lights started shooting in town, the 2004 film, starred Billy Bob Thornton as coach to a Texas high school football team. Based on the same-titled book by Buzz Bissinger, Friday Night Lights depicts the 1988 season of the Permian Panthers of Odessa, from the promising pre-season to their challenging finish at state.
The movie places quick scenes from the lives of several of the senior players in between montages of the Friday night action in Odessa's Ratliff Stadium. Derek Luke (Antwone Fisher) plays Boobie Miles, an assured running back who is the team's star. I'd argue Luke gives the best performance in the movie. Midway through Friday Night Lights, his character faces an obstacle he may not be able to overcome, and Luke aptly conveys Boobie's bluster, might and heartbreak.

Sunday night's Emmy Awards telecast tried to do something a little different by singling out five stars who had recently passed away and independently eulogizing them with anecdotes from their respective former co-stars and friends. The choice courted controversy from the start, especially with Glee's Cory Monteith being one of the stars chosen to be remembered, since many believed that more established stars -- such as Dallas and I Dream of Jeannie favorite Larry Hagman -- were passed over. Et exclusively sat down with Hagman's son, Preston Hagman, to get his take on the matter, and he declared, "If you're going to respect and recognize them, then do it correctly."
