Who Did Simon Fisher-Becker Play in Harry Potter? The Significance of His Friar Character
Image
British actor Simon Fisher-Becker has sadly passed away. Best known for his roles in fantasy movies and TV series, fans might recognize him, especially from his iconic scenes in Harry Potterand Doctor Who.Fisher-Becker embodied some of the most timeless characters in the media, like Doctor Who's Dorium Maldovar. As such, people could often find him at different science fiction conventions. In Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, Fisher-Becker portrayed the Far Friar, Hufflepuff's affable ghost, giving fans the only live-action adaptation of this amazing character so far.

The Fat Friar might be a small character in the Harry Potter franchise, but as with every personality in the series, his supportive role enriches the storytelling and world-building of the saga. The Fat Friar's background story, cheerful personality, and kindness show his powerful Hufflepuff roots. As brief as this role is, Ficher-Becker shines in it, adding the good-natured and...

Why Helena Ravenclaw Was Recast in Harry Potter
Image
Quick Links Helena Ravenclaw Helped Harry Find One of Voldemorts Horcruxes Nina Young Played Helena Ravenclaw First Kelly Macdonald Took Over the Role in Harry Potters Final Film

It's important to remember the ongoing controversial statements by the creator of the Harry Potter franchise. Cbr supports the hard work of industry professionals on properties fans know and love, and the wider world of Harry Potter that fans have adopted as their own. You can find Cbr's continuing coverage of Rowling here .

Harry Potter features a rich and intricate fictional world with multiple characters that appear throughout the entire saga, even if they don't play a big role in the story. When the first Harry Potter movie debuted, the Harry Potter book series wasn't complete. Only books one through four were published before the release of the Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone movie. This meant that the people behind the...

Julian McMahon at an event for The Lake House (2006)
The Surfer (2024) ‘Lff’ Movie Review: G’day? It is not.
Julian McMahon at an event for The Lake House (2006)
As the film’s opening credits proclaim: Nic Cage is The Surfer, but he’s struggling to catch a wave. Securing his family’s future with a seafront house on a glorious beach in Western Australia is his main ambition. There’s just one issue: the locals aren’t friendly. Spearheaded by their cultish leader Scally (Julian McMahon), the jumped-up blokes who claim the beach as their own would rather knock your teeth out than let you surf. However, ‘The Surfer’ is determined, he’ll just have to suffer first.

Unfortunately, so will we: The audience.

I have a theory about Nic Cage and his relationship with the filmmakers that cast him. You see, the man operates on multiple levels of ‘Cage-ness’ based exclusively on what is asked of him. For example, in Face/Off or Con Air, we probably have near total levels of Cage-ness. Even this year, we saw...

Boardwalk Empire (2010)
Kelly Macdonald Joins 'Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows - Part 2'
Boardwalk Empire (2010)
Shooting may have wrapped on the set of "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" over the summer, but that doesn't mean the cameras have stopped rolling. In an interview with "Boardwalk Empire" leading lady Kelly Macdonald, Vanity Fair found out that the actress was recently cast in "Deathly Hallows: Part 2" and is now filming her role in post-production.

Macdonald will be playing the Ravenclaw house ghost, the Grey Lady. Harry Potter's search for Horcruxes that started in "Half-Blood Prince" and continued through "Deathly Hallows: Part 1" will inevitably bring the boy wizard back to Hogwarts in "Part 2," and that's where the Grey Lady, real name Helena Ravenclaw, comes in to play. Not to give too much away, but she has some information that will help Harry, Ron and Hermione on their quest.

Considering the tragic trajectory of Macdonald's "Boardwalk Empire" character this past season and the doe-eyed innocents she played in...
