Who Is the Most Popular Power Ranger Ever? Japan Has Made a Decision
Image
One of the most exciting things about a new season of Power Rangers is the look of the uniforms that rangers will wear throughout the season. Then, the personality of the character inside the helmet is fundamental to determining if they will be a fan favorite or just get lost in the multicolored crowd of Rangers that have been created to this day. In order to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Super Sentai franchise — more on that later — Japan held a countrywide vote to select the most popular Red Ranger ever. After approximately 600,000 votes, the winner was Shinken Red from Samurai Sentai Shinkenger, which is known on this side of the world as Power Rangers Samurai.

The “All Super Sentai Big Poll” was a live event broadcast on the local network Nhk and featured several guest stars from the Super Sentai franchise. The result was a bit of a surprise,...

‘Power Rangers’ Alum Responds To Writer Who Called Black & Yellow Rangers Casting “A Mistake”
Image
Despite the perception of racial insensitivity in his casting, Walter Emanuel Jones is proud to have originated the role of the Black Ranger.

The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers alum recently responded to the show’s head writer Tony Oliver, who said “it was such a mistake” to cast Black and Asian actors as the Black and Yellow Rangers while reflecting on the hit franchise in an episode of Investigation Discovery‘s Hollywood Demons.

“Incredible how many media outlets picked this up…” wrote Jones on Instagram with headlines about Oliver’s quote. “However while some choose to seek out the negative, I’ve always believed in focusing on the positive. I understand the impulse to address what might be seen as cultural insensitivity, but calling it a ‘mistake’ would dismiss the impact it had on countless people around the world who found inspiration and representation in TV’s first Black superhero...

'It's Scaring Me': Power Rangers Star Reveals the Show's 'Abusive' Working Conditions
Image
Actor Audri Dubois detailed her experience while filming "Day of the Dumpster", the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers promo pilot. That episode's tight budget had production cutting corners, which led to working conditions that were "a little abusive to the actors".

Power Rangers star Audri Dubois said the show's working conditions were so severe, one of the actors suffered heat stroke. Dubois played Trini Kwan/Yellow Ranger in the original version of "Day of the Dumpster", the show's original (unaired) pilot; she was replaced by Thuy Trang in the reshot episode, which premiered Aug. 28, 1993 on the Fox network. "When we're shooting the pilot, we're out in the desert — it's got to be 110 degrees — and someone has heat stroke," Dubois recalled (per Entertainment Weekly). "It was one of the bad guys in a wet suit with a rubber mask over their head with pinholes for the eyes and mouth. He's flopping around like a fish.

Image
Bryan Cranston is best known for his performance as Walter White in the crime-drama series Breaking Bad. Before he rose to fame with his mainstream television roles, Cranston had brief voice roles in the globally popular Power Rangers franchise. He even returned in a major supporting role for the 2017 film reboot of the series.

Breaking Bad star Bryan Cranston made controversial comments about Power Rangers (Credit: AMC).

However, when discussing his work with the franchise, Cranston seemed to have made a homophobic remark which did not sit well with one of the original Power Rangers actors. As a result, the actor blasted Cranston for the distasteful comments. Here is what the actor had to say about Cranston’s remark and how the latter responded.

The Most Popular Power Rangers Theory That Never Came True Wouldve Changed The Show Forever
Image
A popular Power Rangers fan theory from when Zeo was airing wouldve changed the show forever but was quickly proven wrong. When Power Rangers finally moved away from the Mighty Morphin era in 1995, the show had the chance to reinvent itself with new costumes and Zords. Instead of Zyuranger, Power Rangers would now be based on Ohranger, a Super Sentai show with a slightly different color scheme. Pink Ranger Kat was the only one to keep her Mmpr colors, with everyone else from the previous show either leaving the team or getting a new color.

Tommy, who was the White Ranger for most of Mmpr, became the Zeo Red Ranger. Rocky, who replaced Jason as the Red Ranger in Mighty Morphin season 2, was now the Blue Ranger. The Blue spot on the team was open because Billy Cranston decided he no longer wanted to be a Power Ranger and offered...

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Every Main Character's Age
Image
Every season of Power Rangers varies wildly when it comes to the ages of the characters. Kids, teenagers, adults, and the elderly have all been Rangers, and the age range of the villains they face spans even wider. Mighty Morphin Power Rangers famously stars a team of teenagers, but not everyone around them goes to high school.

Power Rangers maintained a consistent continuity for 30 seasons, and many of the original cast members continued to make appearances over the years. The teenagers with attitude grow up throughout Mighty Morphin Power Rangers and beyond. Other characters, meanwhile, never got the chance to continue aging.

Jason Lee Scott Ages Across the Entire Series

Jason Lee Scott is 14 in Season 1 of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. The original Red Ranger is only in his Freshman year of high school but is already disciplined, mature, and acting as a mentor to younger kids. By the time...

‘It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’ Fans Mistakenly Thought Glenn Howerton Was in a ‘Power Rangers’ Movie
Image
Pretty much every popular movie and TV franchise from the ‘90s, no matter how goofy, seems to be pretty much immortal these days — from Full House, to The Mummy, to the existentially-distressing reboot of Barney we’re reportedly getting one day soon. Also, the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers are still very much a thing.

Even though it clearly just began as a way to recycle Japanese TV footage for unsuspecting, toy-hungry ‘90s kids, the Power Rangers-verse has continued into the 21st century in the form of comic books, TV specials and the 2017 feature-length film reboot, which doubled as an overlong Krispy Kreme commercial.

Last year, Netflix released Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Once & Always, which brought back several cast members from the TV series for a nostalgia-heavy hour-long special to celebrate the show’s 30th anniversary, and make everyone who watched it as a kid feel old as hell.

Where Once & Always Fits in the Power Rangers Timeline
Image
The Power Rangers timeline isn't always clear and straightforward. While most seasons are set in the years in which they air, others are set in the future or even parallel universes. Things can be even trickier to understand when there are specials and moves that exist outside the main television series but are still canon.

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Once & Always has a confusing place in the franchise's timeline. A reunion special featuring many returning actors from Mighty Morphin Power Rangers; some have found it difficult to understand when it's set because of how it ties into Power Rangers Spd, Power Rangers Dino Fury, and Power Rangers Cosmic Fury. Executive Producer Simon Bennett has confirmed when Once & Always is set, but it's also possible to understand simply by paying close attention.

Power Rangers Replaced 3 Original Heroes 30 Years Ago & Changed The Show Forever
Image
Mighty Morphin Power Rangers replaced three original team members in season 2, setting a trend for future Power Rangers casts. Power Rangers has often utilized power transfers over recasts, allowing multiple characters to share Ranger powers. Original Red and Black Rangers, Jason and Zack, eventually returned to the franchise after their initial departure.

Power Rangers replaced three cast members in 1994, after which the franchise was never the same. In 2023, as part of the celebration of the shows 30th anniversary, Power Rangers brought back multiple Mighty Morphin actors between Once & Always and Cosmic Fury. This includes David Yost and Walter Emanuel Jones, the latter of which had not been on the show since Mmpr season 2. Once & Always combined Rangers from two generations and delivered some interactions I never thought I would see, such as Zack and Rocky or Zack and Adam.

Power Rangers New Yellow Ranger Story Is Fixing A 27-Year-Old Franchise Mistake That Always Bothered Me
Image
A new Power Rangers comic fixes a 27-year-old mistake by focusing on the franchise's third Yellow Ranger, Tanya. Tanya never appeared in Power Rangers again after Turbo. Most Zeo Rangers eventually returned to the franchise, with Tanya being the only exception.

An upcoming Power Rangers comic book centered on the franchises third Yellow Ranger is fixing a 27-year-old mistake about the TV show that always bothered me. While most Power Rangers comics take place in their own continuity and do not interest much with the main Power Rangers chronology, they are a great opportunity to revisit the TV show through different lenses. Many of the Power Rangers comics follow the Mighty Morphin characters, but they have incorporated names from other seasons through multiverse, time travel, or standalone stories.

As much as I enjoyed the recent Power Rangers seasons, some of my favorite stories in recent years have come from the comics.

Power Rangers: How The Dumbest Fight Ever Came To Be
Image
Power Rangers never gets enough credit for having some of the most bizarre action scenes ever put to the screen. From Rangers getting baked into giant pizzas to a prison fight over jello, Marvel and DC wish they had superhero action as wild as this. It isn’t just the footage adapted from the Japanese series Super Sentai that stands out but the American shot action as well. They were not about to be shown up by the Japanese multi-colored spandex fights.

The episode “High Five,” the second aired episode of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, has the unmorphed Rangers fighting the evil Putty Patrol in a mountainous area. Jason (Austin St. John), Zack (Walter Jones), and Kimberly (Amy Jo Johnson) have to take on five Putties that have surrounded them. Now, what do you think would be the best option here?

Power Rangers Series Dead At Netflix; Hasbro Seeking New Partner With A Different Creative Vision
Image
Following rumors over the weekend, TV Line has confirmed that Hasbro's Power Rangers cinematic universe, which was expected to include both an original television show and new films, that had been in development at Netflix for the past two years is no longer moving forward at the streamer.

X user @Jinsakuu was the first to break the story, before the trade was able to obtain confirmation. In their initial tweet, the online scooper explained, "Due to the lack of staff and all the departments and responsibilities Hasbro had to take on. They’re lisencing Power Rangers Toys and Media off to other companies. As we seen with playmates who now own full control of the toys they’re doing the same with the show rights. Also they’re trying to be as hands off as possible and still own the franchises revenues. So good news maybe ??"

Netflix's Power Rangers Series Reportedly Cancelled
Image
A potential Power Ragners show has been cancelled after 2 years in development at Netflix, leaving plans for a reboot in limbo. Hasbro now seeks a new creative partner for the Power Rangers franchise. The reasons for the show's sudden cancellation have not been revealed.

A new Power Rangers Netflix show has reportedly been canceled after two years in development. Debuting in 1993 as the TV show Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, the franchise has grown to become one of the most beloved and successful in popular culture, consisting of 30 seasons of television across 22 themed shows, three theatrical movies, and a television special. The 30th and most recent season, 2023's Power Rangers Cosmic Fury, was intended to be the last within the established canon, with a reboot season planned for a 2025 release.

However, it seems this will no longer be the case, as the newest Power Rangers series, which was in development with Netflix,...

Power Rangers: The Early Days of the Show Were Brutal for the Cast
Image
In our multimedia-filled landscape, long-running franchises dominate. Star Wars, Star Trek, Marvel, and many more started small without world conquering ambitions. Nowadays though, if every entry in your franchise doesn’t make more than the last one and you aren’t cracking a billion dollars at the box office? Your franchise is a colossal failure. Thus, each new entry in a franchise is handled with extreme oversight and planning, most of which consists of “how can we scientifically engineer this to make as much money as possible for our CEO?”

Power Rangers is in that same wheelhouse as a franchise with 30 seasons of television, three feature films, and endless spinoff material. Fans currently wait on baited breath for a new Netflix Power Rangers series that’s in the works. No doubt one of the reasons for the long process between the announcement of that series (back in 2020) and its ongoing...

8 Harsh Realities Of Rewatching The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Movie Almost 30 Years Later
Image
The original Power Rangers movie is not canon, only Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie fits in the main chronology. The Power Rangers movie suits had armored designs, making them more realistic and advanced compared to the show's classic spandex. The 1995 Power Rangers movie is a standalone, nostalgic experience.

Rewatching Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie (1995) almost 30 years later can be very nostalgic, but it also reveals some harsh truths about the first Power Rangers film. There have been only three theatrical Power Rangers movies since the inception of the franchise in 1993, with only one of them being canon to the main Power Rangers chronology. As a Super Sentai adaptation, the focus of the Power Rangers franchise had always been on the small screen. Still, the release of the Mighty Morphin movie in 1995 was a huge event.

Power Rangers: Director of Newly Found First Episode Reveals All
Image
Timing is everything. On April 29, 2024, Den of Geek published an article breaking down the mysteries of the supposed “lost” second pilot of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. We put forth that this long rumored version of the first episode, “Day of the Dumpster,” glimpsed in convention footage, didn’t exist as most fans assumed. That, in fact, the aired version was mostly made of that supposedly “lost footage.” End of the discussion, right?

Just under a week later, Adrian Carr, director of “Day of the Dumpster” and other early episodes of Power Rangers, released his original edit of that installment that revealed some of our analysis was correct but others were blown out of the water by new revelations. For instance, the earthquake scene when the Rangers teleport for the first time? Different in this version, contrary to what we suspected.

(For those wondering, Carr confirmed his upload had nothing to do with our earlier article.

Why Power Rangers Most Iconic 1990s Villain Never Appeared On The TV Show
Image
Ivan Ooze only appeared in the 1995 movie, not in the TV show or comics. Ivan Ooze's design and humor perfectly suited the Power Rangers universe. Power Rangers: The Movie remains a standalone classic, non-canon but nostalgic.

One of the most iconic Power Rangers villains of all time never actually appeared on the TV show and has only one appearance in the franchise. More than 30 years after the premiere of Mighty Morphin, the Power Rangers universe has seen countless villains between major antagonists and monsters-of-the-week. Most of them originated from Super Sentai shows, but characters like Lord Zedd or Astronema were created for Power Rangers. Even though Power Rangers continues to release new series and comic book runs, the nostalgia over the original show has shaped the franchise for years.

This is why it is quite common for Mighty Morphin characters to return in other Power Rangers projects. For example, Netflixs...

Power Rangers: The “Lost” Second Pilot Solves a Massive Franchise Mystery
Image
In the world of television, a “pilot” episode is the one chance you have to make or break your show getting to air. If it doesn’t make the cut, it’s consigned to the film vault of history, never to be seen. It’s extremely unheard of for a franchise to get two pilots. Star Trek: The Original Series being one of those rare second chances.

Bafflingly it’s been assumed for years that Mighty Morphin Power Rangers had three pilots. As Tony Oliver, co-writer and developer of the Power Rangers pilot, first revealed at Power Morphicon in 2007, “the pilot episode, which turned into the first episode [“Day of the Dumpster”], they actually did three times.”

That means they shot three separate pilot episodes, right? Well, yes, but also no. It’s very complicated so we did the biggest deep dive research on the Power Rangers pilot ever. What we uncovered changes everything...

Power Rangers Confirms The Original Blue Ranger Is The Team’s Most Important Member

The original Blue Ranger, Billy, helped save the day twice in 2023. Billy's return in 2023 marked a significant moment in Power Rangers history after a long absence. Billy's essential role as a character included creating essential inventions for the team.

Power Rangers recently confirmed the original Blue Ranger is the most important member of the show’s classic Migthy Morphin team. Even though there have been dozens of Ranger teams in the Power Rangers chronology, the Mighty Morphin characters arguably remain the franchise’s most iconic. 12 Essential Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Episodes That Aren’t Filler
Image
Only a few Mighty Morphin Power Rangers episodes or arcs are essential to the main storyline, such as "Green With Evil". "Day of the Dumpster" is where it all begins. The original Power Rangers series featured a lot of multi-episode story arcs.

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, the original Power Rangers show, has hundreds of episodes, but only a few of them are essential to the main storyline and cannot be deemed as filler. Given the episodic nature of the show, it is safe to say Mmpr has more “filler” than it has plot-heavy episodes. The same applies to most seasons in Power Rangers’ chronological order, although later entries had more overarching storylines compared to Mighty Morphin.

Almost every Mmpr episode follows the same formula, which would then be applied in all other seasons. Naturally, much of it is inspired by the Super Sentai shows, which also had a very defined rhythm to them.

Where The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Movie Cast Is Now

The 1995 Mighty Morphin Power Rangers movie was not part of the official Power Rangers timeline, but it remains a popular and memorable part of the franchise's nostalgia. Jason David Frank, the late actor who played Tommy Oliver, made multiple appearances as many different Ranger colors in various Power Rangers shows and movies. Other cast members, such as Amy Jo Johnson, David Yost, Karan Ashley, Johnny Yong Bosch, Steve Cardenas, Paul Schrier, and Jason Narvy, also had significant roles and continued to be involved in the Power Rangers universe.

The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie cast helped bring Power Rangers to the big screen for the very first time in 1995, and while most of the actors continued to be part of the franchise, others never reprised their roles. After Mighty Morphin Power Rangers quickly became a pop culture phenomenon, it was easy to predict that a theatrical film centered...

Power Rangers’ First Orange Ranger Explained (& Why It Took 30 Years)
Image
Warning: This article contains Spoilers for Power Rangers Cosmic Fury.

Power Rangers Cosmic Fury introduces the show's first Orange Ranger after 30 years, fulfilling a long-time fan wish. The Orange Ranger is a rarity in the Super Sentai series that Power Rangers is based on, with only a few shows featuring an Orange Ranger. The inclusion of an Orange Ranger in Cosmic Fury is even more important considering that the show may have been the end of the current Power Rangers chronology.

Power Rangers finally has an Orange Ranger 30 years later thanks to Power Rangers Cosmic Fury’s Fern, played by Jacqueline Joe. Since 1993’s Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, the franchise has seen dozens of seasons, multiple teams, and hundreds of Power Rangers. However, some Power Rangers colors are far more common than others. For example, every Power Rangers team includes a Red Ranger, whereas not every season has a Green or White Ranger.

Power Rangers Cosmic Fury’s Heckyl & Dino Charge’s Dark Ranger Return Explained
Image
Warning: This article contains Spoilers for Power Rangers Cosmic Fury.

Power Rangers Cosmic Fury's crossover storyline connects three generations of Dino Rangers, including the debut of Dino Charge's Dark Ranger. Heckyl's redemption story in Dino Super Charge set up his role as a Power Ranger, which never happened in the show. The Dark Ranger's debut in Cosmic Fury fulfills viewers' dreams, as he previously couldn't appear in the TV show due to character rights issues.

Power Rangers Cosmic Fury’s Heckyl connected two different seasons by becoming Power Rangers Dino Charge’s Dark Ranger. While each Power Rangers season since the end of the Zordon Era has been mostly standalone, there is still a strong level of interconnectivity in the franchise. Even Dino Charge and Dino Super Charge, both of which take place in a different timeline from most Power Rangers TV shows, have been part of crossovers in the last few years.

Does Power Rangers Cosmic Fury Fix The Franchise’s Biggest Timeline Issue?
Image
This Power Rangers Cosmic Fury article contains spoilers through episode 9.

2025. A year that’s loomed over Power Rangers since 2005 when Power Rangers S.P.D., the 13th season of the franchise, aired. S.P.D.’s unusual jump forward in the timeline (previously each season had more or less matched it years of airing) was so the show could tell stories about an Earth that, to quote the shows first episode, “has become a haven for all alien races who come from the farthest reaches of the galaxy.”

The world of S.P.D. was one where aliens lived freely amongst humans, just a regular part of everyday life, and the titular Space Patrol Delta protected Earth against the few aliens who refused to live in harmony. It set up the idea that, within twenty years of the season’s airing, Earth in the Power Rangers universe would soon be crawling with aliens.

Power Rangers Zeo Had the Franchise’s Best Build-Up
Image
The lead up to Power Rangers Zeo was hyped with a series of TV serials. These short stingers built up the impending threat of the Machine Empire, all while highlighting that the Power Rangers were gone. This level of hype and advertisement has never been used in the Power Rangers franchise again, and it showcased the zenith of the series’ popularity.

The Power Rangers franchise has now been running for 30 years, with the classic Mighty Morphin Power Rangers still being the most iconic incarnation. For as popular as it was, however, all good things always come to an end. Thus, the first take on the series morphed into a new form that was stronger than before, though it only did so after some of the series' best promotion ever.

Power Rangers Zeo was lauded by many as a worthy follow-up to the Mighty Morphin series, and it came after an incredible series finale.

Power Rangers Cosmic Fury: Release Date, Trailer, & Everything We Know

Power Rangers Cosmic Fury celebrates the franchise's 30th anniversary while making big changes, including new Ranger uniforms and a female Red Ranger. The season retains the cast from the previous iteration and brings back a classic villain and original Mighty Morphin Power Rangers team member. The new season takes the Power Rangers to space in search of Lord Zedd, with new Zords, powers, and uniforms, combining classic and modern elements.

The Power Rangers franchise celebrates its 30th anniversary season in 2023, and that’s just in time for Power Rangers Cosmic Fury news. When Power Rangers debuted in 1993, the series used footage from the Japanese Super Sentai series and combined the fight scenes and monster footage with newly filmed scenes using new actors and new storylines. That tradition has continued ever since though modern seasons have used more new footage than recycled footage. Power Rangers Cosmic Fury continues that trend.

10 Ways Power Rangers: Cosmic Fury Breaks Tradition
Image
The Power Rangers franchise has been airing for 30 years. In that time, the show has established a number of traditions and tropes that have defined it for most fans. Most seasons of the show have been pretty consistent with what has come before. The most prominent Power Rangers tradition is how it adapts a season of the Japanese show Super Sentai. The upcoming season of Power Rangers Cosmic Fury, however, is breaking this trend.

Cosmic Fury is the first season of Power Rangers that will not be heavily borrowing footage and costumes from Super Sentai. This is the first of many traditions that Cosmic Fury has decided to break. While the series has yet to be released, it is already clear to fans that this will be unlike any previous season of Power Rangers. This is really exciting, as the new season will be a turning point for the franchise...

Power Rangers is slowly moving away from Super Sentai adaptations, as seen with the original Power Rangers Cosmic Fury suits.

Power Rangers just turned 30, and the franchise has changed a lot since Mighty Morphin Power Rangers premiered on August 28, 1993. The Power Rangers franchise consists of 963 episodes as of Power Rangers Dino Fury season 2, not to mention the movies, specials, comic books, video games, roleplaying games, and reference materials. The idea of combining a Super Sentai show with an original story quickly proved to be successful, and Mighty Morphin Power Rangers has since become a pop culture icon.

Why Power Rangers' Mighty Morphin Character Return Could Hurt Cosmic Fury
Image
Power Rangers Cosmic Fury will feature the return of the original Blue Power Ranger, Billy Cranston, played by David Yost, after his departure in 1996. Billy's role will assist the Rangers in battling Lord Zedd and saving the galaxy. Amelia, the Pink Ranger in Power Rangers Dino Fury, will step up as the Red Ranger and become the first female recurrent Red Ranger leader in the franchise's history. However, Billy's return has the potential to overshadow her achievement. Power Rangers Cosmic Fury needs to find a balance between Billy's return and Amelia's new leadership role. Examples from past seasons show that mentor Rangers can be introduced without negatively affecting the leader's position. The season's success will depend on executing this balance correctly.

The highly anticipated Power Rangers Cosmic Fury will feature the return of a Mighty Morphin character, but his role reprisal has the potential to overshadow another character's lead. The...
