Why There Won’t Be “La Brea” Season 4: Explained
Image
Natalie Zea and Eoin Macken’s sci-fi series on NBC, La Brea, ended after a three-season run in 2024. The series begins when a massive sinkhole opens at the La Brea Tar Pits in LA and pulls people, vehicles, and buildings into a time portal. The main characters end up in a location in 10,000 BC. The survivors’ search for a way back forms the plot of the three seasons.

There was no way the network could’ve pushed for more seasons, albeit a fourth season, after the challenges faced during the production of Season 3. The third season was much shorter than the first two seasons, with just six episodes as opposed to the 10 and 14 episodes of Seasons 1 and 2.

Justified Actor's Three-Season Sci-Fi Show Becomes Global Netflix Hit
Image
A three-season sci-fi series, which is led by one of the stars of Justified, has become a global hit on Netflix. The streamer has had some success with licensed sci-fi shows that originally aired elsewhere, with the most impactful likely being the mystery drama Manifest. Thanks to its performance on Netflix, Manifest was ultimately able to bow out with a proper final season despite initially being cancelled by NBC.

The horror sci-fi From, which U.S. viewers stream on MGM+, is available in some countries on Netflix, where it has regularly appeared in the platform's weekly top ten lists. The same is true for Lost, which is much more widely available, including in the U.S., and has experienced a bit of a cultural reemergence since being licensed. A far more recent sci-fi drama is showing early signs of enjoying the same trajectory.

‘Black Doves’ Debuts At No. 2 In Netflix’s Weekly Rankings, ‘La Brea’ At No. 3 Despite Limited Availability
Image
After Manifest, another high-concept, serialized drama that ran on NBC for 3 seasons is making an impressive debut on Netflix. Season 1 of La Brea, starring Natalie Zea and Eoin Macken, was the #3 most watched English-language series globally on Netflix for the week of Dec. 2. That was despite the sci-fi drama being available only in selected countries, excluding the U.S., the UK, Brazil and other top Netflix territories.

La Brea (5 million views) was only bested on the weekly list by Last week’s #1, limited series The Madness (13.3M) and the high-profile new Kiera Knightly thriller drama Black Doves (10.8M). Unlike Manifest, which went on to produce a final season for Netflix after a dramatic cancellation by NBC, the Universal TV-produced La Brea wrapped its story with its abbreviated third season on the broadcast network.

Who is Nurse Jackie on the Chicago Med cast? Here’s where you might know actress Natalie Zea from
Oliver Platt, Steven Weber, Marlyne Barrett, S. Epatha Merkerson, and Jessy Schram in Chicago Med (2015)
The Chicago Med cast re-introduced Nurse Jackie during the show’s latest episode. It was also a hint that she would be around for a while.

We first met Nurse Jackie Nelson at the end of Chicago Med Season 9. Jackie popped up during the 12th episode to help Maggie Lockwood in the Ed.

It was an emotional story arc for Jackie, with Maggie worrying that Jackie was overworking herself. But there were other reasons to be concerned because Jackie was harming herself.

The writing presented a situation where viewers worried Jackie might have been hurt by someone else, but Maggie later found Jackie in the bathroom in distress. That’s when Maggie discovered the real story.

Dr. Daniel Charles was forced to put Jackie on a 72-hour psych hold when the nurse would address the problem. That may have been the help Jackie needed.

That was the backstory before Nurse...

Chicago Med 2024 cast: Natalie Zea returns as Jackie in season 10 episode 4
Image
Just when we thought Natalie Zea’s appearance in Chicago Med season 9 was going to be a one-off, the creative team behind NBC’s hit medical drama threw an unexpected surprise our way in the fourth episode of season 10, “Blurred Lines.”

In the episode, Maggie is equally surprised when she discovers that Jackie is the new nurse joining the E.D. shift, with Zea making her way back to the show in a guest-starring role.

Looking to get Jackie acclimated back to the E.R., Maggie gave her some softball cases and tasked her with doing secondary work such as restocking supplies. This was something that Jackie wasn’t a fan of as she worried that Maggie didn’t think she was prepared to return to work, telling Maggie that she felt she was more than capable of being there for the patients after what she’s been through.

At the end of the day,...

NBC’s La Brea wraps up with season three episode six, an episode that begins with a flashback of Gavin (Eoin Macken) learning Eve was pregnant with their first child. The action then switches to 1965, with Gavin, Izzy, Sam, and Helena hoping that they’re getting closer to finding Eve.

Helena (Emily Wiseman) believes they should head to Reisander’s base in Pasadena. There’s a detention center there and that might be where they’re keeping Eve. Helena thinks they can kill two birds with one stone – rescue Eve and destroy their research on the microchip. She’s going to use an electromagnetic pulse explosive to wipe out their research.

La Brea (2021)
La Brea Season 3 Episode 6 Review: The Road Home Part 2
La Brea (2021)
With that, we say goodbye to La Brea and the sinkhole survivors.

It was an action-packed and emotional finale, cramming too many reunions into La Brea Season 3 Episode 6. The series needed another few episodes to make some of these emotional scenes breathe better, but at least most of the characters got closure.

A few characters had to deal with the consequences of their actions, making it a bittersweet finale, too.

While La Brea was a sci-fi adventure series, it's always been a family drama, and almost every character proved how far they'd go for their loved ones.

In many ways, Sam had one of the best character arcs in La Brea Season 3 as he learned to cope without Riley, and he realized that he wanted to become an even better person and father when she recovered.

Sam had been so obsessed with finding Riley that it became his sole focus,...

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for La Brea Season 3 Episode 5, “The Road Home Part 1.”] The major death in the penultimate episode of La Brea was inevitable if you ask the actor playing the character. Furthermore, it was supposed to come sooner. But when Levi hears that the soldiers are targeting Gavin to take him out—and sees Izzy (Zyra Gorecki)—he immediately breaks cover and runs to save his friend. He succeeds in doing that—and lets Gavin know where he can find Eve—but at the cost of his own life. But ...

La Brea Recap: Who Didn’t Live to See Next Week’s Series Finale?
Image
With just one episode now remaining in its three-season (two-and-a-half season?) run, NBC’s La Brea gave one of its main characters a most heroic, yet oh-so-sad, death.

“The Road Home, Part 1” in large part revolved around the person on the other end of the potato-powered laptop baiting Gavin into handing over The Microchip, in trade for a captive Eve. Luckily, Gavin & Co. were able to deduce ahead of their rendezvous at a remote location that Maya Schmidt, in fact, was behind everything. As such, they got the drop on her during the meet-up.
