‘Younger’ Spinoff Starring Hilary Duff In The Works
Image
ViacomCBS has teamed with Younger creator Darren Star on a spinoff of TV Land’s flagship series, with Hilary Duff to star, sources tell Deadline.

The veteran comedy, which is heading into its seventh season, stars Sutton Foster. The spinoff would be built around Sutton’s co-star Duff.

The project is currently in early development and a network is not yet attached. It could be headed to Paramount Network, we hear, where Younger was slated to move for its sixth season, but plans were reversed and it remained in its original home on TV Land. It’s also possible the series could be shopped elsewhere.

A TV Land spokesperson declined comment.

A strong ratings performer, Younger ranked as the top cable comedy last year among women 18-49 and women 25-54. The Season 6 premiere was TV Land’s highest-rated series premiere ever among viewers 25-54 and women 25-54, according to the network.

Season 5 of TV Land’s flagship original series, Younger, wasted no time in tackling the current hot-button topic of sexual harassment in its first episode, with a character whose behavior fits the bill.

Whitney, Season 2, Episode 14: “Crazy, Stupid Words”

Written by Zachary Rosenblatt & Eric Zicklin

Directed by Andy Ackerman

Airs Wednesdays at 8pm (Et) on NBC

Just as Whitney surprises us with a great episode and an awesome guest star last week, it declines in entertainment and hilarity this week. It seems more and more each week that NBC’s Whitney insists on producing more bad episodes than good. There is nothing particularly good about “Crazy, Stupid Words” as the show’s aim to balance drama and comedy once again is careless.

The episode opens with Alex and Whitney in a coffee shop eavesdropping on a couple’s argument and almost having an argument themselves whilst defending the strangers. In this scene we discover Whitney doesn’t like the word ‘crazy’ and thus the main plot of this episode explores the way that certain words can aggravate people. It seems the female...

Wednesday Comedy Roundup: Modern Family 4.17, Whitney 2.11, & Workaholics 3.17
Modern Family Season 4, Episode 17: “Best Men”

Written by Dan O’Shannon, Abraham Higginbotham and Bianca Douglas

Directed by Steven Levitan

Airs on Wednesdays at 9pm on ABC

This week we see the return of Sal, played brilliantly by none other than Elizabeth Banks, and this time she’s getting married. Barging in late at night, Sal announces that she wants Mitch and Cam to be her “Best Men”. The last minute announcement leads to a last minute hen party where Sal temporarily gets cold feet and makes out with a bar tender. Sal is a great character and Elizabeth Banks does crazy well, but the outcome feels a little disappointing. The episode is set out in a way that makes the audience expect, or hope, that Cam and Mitch end up getting married but the writers are probably saving this for a season finale. Lily is hilarious as always.

Comedy Central Reveals 22 Projects in Development for 2010-2011 Development Slate Including a Broken Lizard Sitcom, a Waiting… Adaptation, and a Jesus Christ Cartoon
Comedy Central has unveiled its entire development slate and, as to be expected, there are plenty of funny concepts in the bunch. The standouts include Highdeas, which explores such stoner-friendly hypotheticals as “white chocolate milk” and “hamster-sized rhinos”, Jc, the animated New York City adventures of one Jesus Christ, and The Fuzz, a police procedural in a corrupt city where humans and puppets co-exist.

Also in development are potential series from the likes of Jon Benjamin (Archer), Broken Lizard (Super Troopers), and Bob Odenkirk (Mr. Show), plus a Wating… adaptation from Rob McKittrick, the writer/director of the feature film that starred Ryan Reynolds. Note that this in addition to already announced projects from Will Ferrell, Nick Swardson, and The Onion. For a complete rundown, hit the jump.

Jesus show on Comedy Central slate
Comedy Central is set to unveil an eclectic development slate that tackles sex, drugs, rock 'n' roll and religion.

The network has 22 projects in the pipeline ranging from script deals to pilots, with the usual formats of animated shows, sketch comedy and talk shows represented.

Standout ideas include a live sex-chat talk show, a program based on a Funny or Die Web short, an update of "The Odd Couple" and an animated series about Jesus Christ.

That last item could raise eyebrows coming on the heels of the network's recent censorship of "South Park" for attempting to depict the Prophet Muhammad. The show in development, "Jc," is a half-hour about Christ wanting to escape the shadow of his "powerful but apathetic father" and live a regular life in New York.

"In general, comedy in its purest form always makes some people uncomfortable," said Comedy Central head of original programming Kent Alterman,...
