‘Cardcaptor Sakura’ Movie Celebrates 25th Anniversary With Gorgeous New Promo Artwork
Image
It's almost impossible to believe, but it's been a quarter of a century since Cardcaptor Sakura Movie 2: The Sealed Card premiered. As a celebration of the movie's 25th anniversary and the legacy of Cardcaptor Sakura, some new gorgeous art by Clamp was unveiled as the Japanese fans prepare for the movie's re-release in theaters this summer. So far, a similar theatrical run hasn't been announced for U.S. audiences.

Fans of the Cardcaptor Sakura anime and manga series know full well that the protagonist Sakura Kinomoto (voiced by Sakura Tange in the original Japanese and by Carly McKillip in the English dub) delivered looks on every single episode, thanks to her best friend and crush Tomoyo Daidouji (Thanh Hong/Junko Iwao). The celebration art reveals some of those looks, with ribbons and flowers galore. The art also features her guardian and friend Kerberos (Aya Hisakawa/Matt Hill). Japanese moviegoers...

New Netflix Anime is a Must-Watch For Fans of Retro Anime for One Big Reason
Image
Netflix's The Grimm Variations changes the game by blending classic fairy tales with unique twists and engaging storytelling. Collaborating with Clamp brings a fresh and captivating flair to retro anime and manga fans looking for innovative adaptations. The anime features familiar stories like Cinderella with unexpected developments, transforming them into compelling and exciting new takes.

Netflix original net animations have featured exciting adaptations of popular Japanese manga, but The Grimm Variations takes a different approach to adaptations. One central appeal to this new Netflix anime is the presence of the legendary Clamp manga artists group among its production staff, which may appeal to retro fans. It brings The Grimm Variations from already having a bold premise to draw viewers' curiosity into one that commands their attention.

Regarding Netflix originals, The Grimm Variations has a relatively simple appeal as an anime. As the title suggests, it is an anthology of...

10 Manga Whose Creators Helped Make Their Anime
Image
Mangaka are usually uninvolved with the production of their anime, but there are a rare handful of manga whose creators were heavily involved in making their anime. When a manga gets adapted into an anime, the original mangaka tends to have no part in its production outside some very minor areas. Fullmetal Alchemist’s Hiromu Arakawa, for example, permitted Bones to deviate from the manga with the first adaptation, and mangaka will often design original characters for movies and filler arcs, but it’s rare for a creator to be fully involved with making their anime.

As rare as it might be, however, there have been times when a mangaka has helped with the production of their anime. Every example sees creators of the original manga help create their anime in some way, whether it was by writing the script or by having a full hand in the overall production.

Second Trailer For Animated 'Blood-c: The Last Dark'
Blood-C (2011)
The official website for the Blood-c: The Last Dark anime film began streaming a second trailer on Saturday. The last episode of the "Blood-c" television anime series had revealed in September that the film will open in theaters in Japan on June 2, 2012. The manga creator team Clamp developed the story and original character designs for the vampire television series and film, and Production I.G has been animating both projects. Naoyoshi Shiotani (Tokyo Marble Chocolate, key animator on Blood+ and Blood-c) is directing the film instead of the television version's director Tsutomu Mizushima. Writers Jun'ichi Fujisaku and Nanase Ohkawa (Clamp), animation character designer/chief animation director Kazuchika Kise, and voice cast members Nana Mizuki (Saya Kisaragi) and Kenji Nojima (Fumito Nanahara) are returning from the television series. Niconico, the English version of the online video service Nico Nico Douga, streamed the television series outside of Japan as it aired. The...
