In March 2024, Netflix confirmed The Life List, a new romantic comedy starring Sofia Carson. The movie is due out on Netflix soon, so we’re here with everything known about it, including the full cast, production updates, plot details, and more on its release date, which is now set for March 28th.

Adam Brooks is on board to both write and direct the project. The Canadian screenwriter and director is no stranger to the romantic comedy space, having written or directed (or both) titles like Definitely, Maybe, and Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason, plus the Netflix Original movie Nappily Ever After, released in 2018.

This isn’t the first time The Lift List has been attempted to be brought to the big screen. Ahead of the book’s release in 2013, Fox 2000 optioned the film rights for the novel, with Hutch Parker set to produce.

Earlier this morning, we saw Netflix unveil their 2025 TV slate, and now the folks at Deadline have also gotten their hands on the list of movies that we can expect to see drop on the streaming service as the year goes on. On Thursday, Netflix revealed its full 2025 film slate. The lineup includes long-awaited sequels, high profile originals, future Oscar contenders, and much more.

The biggest new announcements in the slate include the formal announcement of Jay Kelly, three-time Academy Award nominee Noah Baumbach‘s latest film, a “heartbreaking comedy” featuring George Clooney and Adam Sandler in the large ensemble cast; Eddie, a biographical documentary about one of Hollywood’s most elusive stars, Eddie Murphy; and a Charles Manson documentary from Academy Award winner Errol Morris.

These titles join previously announced films including the third installment in Rian Johnson‘s Daniel Craig-led mystery franchise, Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery; Guillermo del Toro‘s adaptation of Frankenstein starring Oscar Isaac and Jacob Elordi; and an as-yet-untitled thriller from Best Director winner Kathryn Bigelow, her first film in eight years.

Although we would absolutely love to see a Griselda season 2, it's just not going to happen, seeing as though the hit crime drama series was billed as a limited series. Also, the first season tells drug queenpin Griselda Blanco's complete life story, so a second season wouldn't be necessary. Yaaas, queen(pin): Sofia Vergara’s limited series Griselda now has a release date at Netflix.

The drama, in which the Modern Family alum stars as real-life Colombian drug boss Griselda Blanco, will be released in its entirety — six one-hour episodes — on Thursday, Jan. 25, 2024.

Sound of Freedom director Alejandro Monteverde is getting back in business with Utah-based Angel Studios for the release of his latest movie, Cabrini.

Angel Studios, which found box office gold with Sound of Freedom and prides itself on working outside of the Hollywood studio system, will release Cabrini in theaters on March 8, 2024. The drama portrays Francesca Cabrini, a poor Italian immigrant in New York City who overcame the odds to become a major entrepreneur in the 19th century.

“Francesca Cabrini is one of the most inspiring and influential figures in modern history, and yet few know her story. Faced with seemingly insurmountable life obstacles, Cabrini chose instead to focus on how she could change the status quo in her time, and her impact on the world is still felt today,” Liz Ellis, COO of Angel Studios, said in a statement on Tuesday.

Despite its status as the highest-grossing indie film since 2019’s “Parasite,” “Sound of Freedom” has been dismissed as a QAnon fever dream by large swaths of the mainstream media. But that derisive label is “so ridiculous” to the film’s writer-director Alejandro Monteverde, who began working on the project in 2015, two years before QAnon emerged.

“The origin [of the film] has been avoided, purposely or accidentally, in the media,” Monteverde said. “The origin will answer a lot of these misconceptions on the film.”

Back in 2015, the Mexico-born, L.A.-based Monteverde says he was unaware of the scourge of child sex trafficking until he watched a network news segment on the subject. What he learned “shook my soul because I didn’t really believe it [existed],” he says. “I just, in my head, could not put those two pieces together — an adult and a child.”

The Jim Caviezel film Sound of Freedom made a splash at the box office after seemingly coming out of nowhere. However, it had a bumpy road to release after its initial producers, 20th Century Fox, had been acquired by Disney, and the film would wait to be unveiled after crowdfunding gave it a new life. Sound of Freedom is one of the notable films of the summer as it rose out of obscurity to garner around $130 million in its domestic run while hoping to bring awareness to a heavy subject akin to movies like Taken, Skin Trade, and the Academy Award-winning Spotlight.

The film’s distributor, Angel Studios, has recently announced their plans to expand their screenings into worldwide markets. According to The Hollywood Reporter, on Wednesday, the studio “announced release dates for 21 markets, including the U.K., Australia, Spain, South Africa and a host of countries in Latin America.

Sound of Freedom, the indie action-drama film that has already earned over $125 million at the North American box office, will begin to move into international distribution from next month.

Angel Studios, the crowd-funded, Utah-based production and distribution firm behind the picture, says it has set releases in territories including the U.K., Australia and Latin America.

The company explained that it has arranged direct-to-theater distribution deals in Latin America, the U.K, and Ireland. In other territories it will take the more conventional route of partnering with distributors. No distribution alliances have been named.

It will first release in South Africa on Aug. 18, followed by Australia and New Zealand on Aug. 24. It ill reach the U.K. and Ireland on Sept. 1 and Spain on Oct. 11. A huge slew of South American territories, including Mexico, Argentina, Colombia and Venezuela, will receive the film from Aug. 31.

The faith-based political thriller Sound of Freedom is headed for cinemas overseas.

The Utah-based Angel Studios, which prides itself on working outside of the Hollywood studio system, offers a unique “pay it forward” option whereby consumers can donate tickets. Sound of Freedom has stayed high up on the domestic chart since its debut, and is even outpacing Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One, which launched July 12 and finished Tuesday with a North American total of $124.2 million.

Angel Studios is launching its unexpected summer hit Sound of Freedom in a bunch of international markets after it made $127M during its first three weeks in U.S. theaters.

Written and directed by Alejandro Monteverde, the pic, which has been widely embraced by conservative and right-wing commentators, will be released in South Africa from August 18 and Australia and New Zealand from August 24. The film will hit cinemas in the following territories from August 31: Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Belize, Panama, Colombia, Venezuela, Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay, Bolivia, Chile, Peru, Ecuador, and Costa Rica. Jim Caviezel stars in human trafficking drama “Sound of Freedom,” the first trailer for which has been unveiled by Angel Studios.

The film is based on the true story of Tim Ballard, a former U.S. government agent that quits his job to rescue children from global sex traffickers. Ballard (Caviezel), a federal agent, finds himself losing hope in the dark field of children crime work. However, Ballard quickly uncovers his life mission when he’s able to free a seven-year-old boy that was kidnapped. When the young boy asks Ballard to find his sister who was also kidnapped, Ballard decides to devote his life to rescuing children from sex slavery.

Alongside Caviezel, the cast also includes Oscar winner Mira Sorvino (“The Final Cut”), Bill Camp (“12 Years a Slave”), José Zúñiga (“Twilight”), Eduardo Verástegui (“Unplanned”), who is also a producer, and written and directed by Alejandro Monteverde.

New York-based streaming network FilmRise has acquired the Fast (free ad-supported streaming) rights to Canadian comedy series “Kim’s Convenience,” following an agreement with Canadian production company Thunderbird Entertainment, FilmRise announced on Wednesday.

The show’s five seasons, which are currently available by subscription VOD on Netflix, will have their own dedicated channel in addition to populating on some of the platform’s other channels globally. FilmRise plans to offer the show to Fast channels on IMDb TV, Pluto, The Roku Channel, Samsung TV+, the FilmRise Streaming Network and others.

Based on Ins Choi’s award-winning play of the same name, “Kim’s Convenience” tells the story of a Korean-Canadian family that runs a convenience store in Toronto. The show first premiered in 2016 on CBC, and gained a global following after debuting on Netflix in 2018. The cast includes Paul Sun-Hyung Lee, Andrew Phung, Andrea Bang, Jean Yoon, Simu Liu and Nicole Power.

Netflix released a first look photo (above) of Sofia Vergara as real-life drug queenpin Griselda Blanco from the upcoming limited series, Griselda. The streamer also revealed 10 newly added cast members including Vanessa Ferlito and Juliana Aidén Martinez.

The six-episode series chronicles the life of Colombian-born Blanco, who created one of the most profitable cartels in history. A devoted mother, Blanco’s lethal blend of charm and unsuspecting savagery helped her expertly navigate between family and business leading her to become widely known as the “Black Widow”.
