The Whisperer in Darkness and Bringing H.P. Lovecraft's Horrifying Vision to Fruition: A Movie Review (DVD)
Director: Sean Branney.

Writers: H.P. Lovecraft (story), Sean Branney and Andrew Leman (screenplay).

Cast: Stephen Blackehart, Annie Abrams and Matt Lagan.

Enthusiasts of H.P. Lovecraft will eat up the cinematic adaption of the tale, The Whisperer in Darkness. Made by the members of the H.P. Lovecraft Historical Society, this film is very clearly a labour of love that came close to not finishing due to funding issues. But thankfully, Sandy Peterson, author of Call of Cthulhu, the role-playing game, saved the day by injecting the money needed to finish the project.

When turning Lovecraft’s works to cinematic expression, some liberties were taken. This movie nicely reproduces the style in films like Dracula, Frankenstein and The Mummy with the set designs and title cards. Also added is a Little Shop of Horrors style (the original) ending. DVD Review: 2010: Moby Dick
2010: Moby Dick

Stars: Barry Bostwick, Renée OConnor, Matt Lagan | Written by Paul Bales | Directed by Trey Stokes

The imaginatively named 2010: Moby Dick is yet another outing from low-budget production company The Asylum – well-known to SyFy viewers for their cult vein of ridiculously-gigantic-monster movies of the Megashark and Crocosaurus variety, and anyone who’s wandered into Blockbusters and wondered why anyone would make a rip-off Transformers movie, and call it Transmorphers - and if you understand what that pedigree means, you’ll know to avoid it like the plague.

A relatively new concept for the company, Moby Dick is an adaptation of Herman Melville’s classic novel rather than a rehash of blockbusters produced seemingly scant minutes after the originals are released. The action, as you may glean from the title, is moved to the present day, but with most of the original characters (and the vessel, now a submarine,...

2010: Moby Dick (2010)
Directed by: Trey Stokes

Starring: Barry Botswick, Renee O'Connor, Matt Lagan, Adam Grimes

Any doubts that I had about The Asylum's 2010: Moby Dick were put to a sublime rest in the moment that Captain Ahab fashioned a peg leg out of a wooden cross, marking some dead person's grave. Or maybe it was when Moby Dick, the giant prehistoric whale cut a cruise ship in half. Or Maybe it was when Moby Dick flopped its way onto a Hawaiian Island, walked around and then jumped over the entire island, plunging itself back into the water. I guess it's safe to say that 2010: Moby Dick is pretty remarkable.

If one were to picture what a modern day adaption of Herman Melville's Moby Dick would look like, I'm not sure anything that vaguely resembles The Asylum's take on it would come to surface. It's safe to assume that the...
