Real Reason Why Black Mirror: Bandersnatch Is Leaving Netflix: Revealed
Image
In the ever-evolving world of streaming media, every day we witness numerous projects being taken off platforms, fading away into an entertainment black hole. But what happens when some of the biggest and grandest of titles are subjected to the same fate? Shock, uproar, and a slew of criticism.

Well, Netflix is recently facing similar criticism given its decision to remove two of its famous Og titles: Black Mirror: Bandersnatch and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt: Kimmy vs. The Reverend on May 12. The decision comes as a shock, especially since the former is one of its most ambitious projects to date, connected with one of its most famous seven-season-long Og series, Black Mirror.

An interactive film, part of the Black Mirror anthology, Bandersnatch allowed viewers to shape the narrative through their choices, offering a groundbreaking blend of television and video game-like interactivity. While in recent times the streaming giant has removed several projects from the platform,...

You Can No Longer Watch the Creepiest Black Mirror Story After Netflix’s Concerning Update
Image
Black Mirror: Bandersnatch, one of Netflix’s most popular interactive specials, is no longer available for fans to enjoy. It was one of the last two Interactive Specials (with Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt: Kimmy vs. the Reverend) globally taken down from the platform on 12th May.

Although Black Mirror: Bandersnatch was not the first Netflix Interactive Special, it was a significant addition to the genre for the Ott giant. Providing different outcomes to different viewers as per their choices in the episode, it was an interestingly creepy experience. But it is all gone now as Netflix thinks that the technology is limiting them from focusing on new areas.

What caused Black Mirror: Bandersnatch to be taken down? A still from Black Mirror: Bandersnatch | Credits: Netflix

Netflix first entered the field of Interactive Stories in 2017 with Puss in Book, and went on to make a total of 24 Interactive Specials for its platform.

Netflix Pulling Its Last Two Interactive Specials – ‘Black Mirror: Bandersnatch’ & ‘Kimmy Schmidt’
Image
Netflix’s final two interactive specials are about to disappear from the platform. Notices have appeared on the What’s on Netflix site for Black Mirror: Bandersnatch and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt: Kimmy vs. the Reverend, confirming both will leave the service on May 12.

Their exit marks the end of the platform’s era of interactive specials as it shifts its focus to mobile and cloud gaming, according to the publication.

Netflix did not respond to a request for comment.

Interactive content has been slowly disappearing from the platform, since its launch with the 2017 Puss in Book. Only four interactive specials remained in late 2024, with Ranveer vs Wild with Bear Grylls and You vs. Wild removed in January of this year.

Released in December 2018, Black Mirror: Bandersnatch was written by series creator Charlie Brooker and directed by David Slade. Starring Fionn Whitehead, Will Poulter and Craig Parkinson, the interactive choose-your-own-adventure tale...

Netflix is about to remove one of the most twisted Black Mirror episodes ever
Image
Say it ain't so! We had a feeling that the day would eventually come, but we were hoping it never would. Netflix is reportedly set to pull one of Black Mirror’s darkest and most unforgettable episodes from its library, and we're left reeling from the news.

Black Mirror: Bandersnatch, the groundbreaking interactive film that allowed viewers to choose their own path through a dark and twisted narrative, is about to disappear from the streaming platform, and with it, one of the most unique viewing experiences ever created. According to Variety, the beloved interactive special will depart the streamer on Monday, May 12, 2025. The only other remaining interactive special on the platform, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt: Kimmy vs the Reverend, will be leaving on this date as well.

May 12 is right around the corner, so if you haven’t experienced Black Mirror: Bandersnatch or revisited its many twists and turns, now is the time.

‘Black Mirror: Bandersnatch’ Interactive Movie to Be Removed from Netflix
Image
Netflix is pulling the plug on Black Mirror: Bandersnatch, the choose-your-own-adventure-style interactive movie that debuted in 2018.

It will be removed from the streamer on May 12 along with the only other remaining interactive title on the service, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt: Kimmy vs the Reverend.

The outright removal comes as a surprise considering “Black Mirror” is one of Netflix’s flagship shows and the Season 7 episode “Plaything” — which just premiered last month — is a direct follow-up to Bandersnatch.

Netflix planned to double down on interactive content following the success of Bandersnatch, but a rep told The Verge last fall that the technology “served its purpose but is now limiting as we focus on technological efforts in other areas.”

Perhaps we could see the film edited into a straight narrative in the future, but this is yet another reminder of the fickle nature of streaming.

Described by Netflix as “a mind-bending tale with multiple endings,...

All 34 ‘Black Mirror’ episodes ranked, including ‘USS Callister: Into Infinity’ and ‘Eulogy’
Image
Every new season of Black Mirror launches a feverish debate over which episode was the best. Emmy voters gave three consecutive Best TV Movie awards to "San Junipero" (2017), "USS Callister" (2018), and "Bandersnatch" (2019), but how does the entire fandom rate the best and worst installments? We've consulted the cumulative IMDb scores for all seasons and have come up with the definitive ranking of Black Mirror episodes. Can you guess the No. 1 choice?

Season 7 was released in April 2025 and brought the total number of episodes and specials to 34. Created by Charlie Brooker, the sci-fi anthology series began on the U.K.'s Channel 4 in 2011 before moving to Netflix (and becoming a worldwide phenomenon) in 2016. The show took a four-year break after Season 5, thanks in part to the worldwide Covid-19 pandemic, but that just gave people even more time to relive their favorite episodes from the beginning.

One Of Black Mirror's Most Popular Episodes Could Get A Proper Sequel
Image
The seventh season of "Black Mirror" just dropped on Netflix on April 10, and it included something new for Charlie Brooker's anthology TV series: a true sequel to a previous installment. 2017's "USS Callister" was enormously popular when it premiered in season 4, so it makes sense that in season 7, we got "USS Callister: Into Infinity," a feature-length episode following up on that story. According to an interview with Entertainment Weekly, though, Brooker actually planned for another "Black Mirror" story to get a sequel first.

"I did work out the storyline for a completely different sequel for 'Bandersnatch,' which was going to be called 'Banderstruck,' but I never got to do it," Brooker revealed, specifying that he would have written a sequel to the show's innovative interactive special that came out in 2018. In that special, we, for lack of a better term, "control" main character Stefan Butler (Fionn Whitehead...

Line of Duty Season 2, Explained
Image
Line of Duty Season 2 brings back Tommy Hunter, the criminal boss from Season 1 Season 2 introduces new characters, such as DC Georgia Trotman, Di Lindsay Denton and DS Jayne Akers. The Season 1 revelation of Matthew "Dot" Cottan's involvement with Tommy Hunter plays a big role in Season 2, as Dot returns and works with AC-12.

Line of Duty is a critically acclaimed and popular British TV crime drama that centers around the Anti-Corruption Unit (or AC-12) and their investigations. Unlike other police procedural dramas like Law & Order or Criminal Minds, Line of Duty investigates crimes and corruption within the police force. The storylines develop throughout the season, with each new season introducing a new investigation with a new set of cast and characters. But at the same time, Line of Duty includes multiple-season story arcs with recurring characters.

Grace Series 4, Episode 2 Review: A Murder Mystery With No Magic
Image
The following contains major spoilers for Grace Series 4, Episode 2, "Want You Dead," now streaming on BritBox. It also contains mention of child abuse and descriptions of violence.

If the Grace Series 4 premiere was an excellent example of a reliable TV mystery, Series 4, Episode 2, "Want You Dead" is a cautionary tale about how easy it is to miss the mark. It's still a worthwhile watch -- but largely because of the performances of the BritBox series' impressive cast. Plot-wise, there are some clear deviations from Peter James' book of the same name, and some massive plot holes that the episode falls flat into.

"Want You Dead" picks up shortly after the events of the premiere, with Detective Inspector Roy Grace convinced his nemesis Alvin Smallbone is plotting against him and his pregnant fiance. However, the discovery of a body in a park leads Grace and his team through a chain of magic-related murders.

Grace Series 4 Premiere Review: John Simm Returns in Top Form
Image
The following contains major spoilers for Grace Series 4, Episode 1, "Dead Man's Time," now streaming on BritBox.

The crime drama has become a British television staple because of series like Grace, which returns for its fourth series on BritBox for U.S. audiences. The show follows a proven path to success: take the works of a successful British mystery author -- in this case, Peter James -- find a compelling lead actor, and build a series around those two things. But in the hands of veterans like writer Ed Whitmore and star John Simm, it never feels formulaic. Rather, it feels like an example of why British crime dramas are so good.

The Grace Series 4 premiere "Dead Man's Time" adapts James' novel of the same name, which centers on an elderly woman attacked in her home. But what seems like a typical home invasion, of course, turns out to be something...

‘Renegade Nell’ Review: Sally Wainwright’s Disney+ Series Strands a Commanding Star in a Thinly Conceived World
Image
“I’m beginning to wonder if you’re not destined for very great things, Nelly Jackson. I’m beginning to wonder if you’ve been sent to the planet for something special.” So Nell (Louisa Harland) is told midway through Disney+’s Renegade Nell, but by that point the prediction feels like a wild understatement. After all, it’s coming from Billy Blind (Nick Mohammed), the mysterious sprite who occasionally grants her otherworldly gifts of strength, speed and invulnerability. Surely the narrative gods never intended her to apply such strange talents to a humdrum life.

What that specific “something special” might be, however, proves more difficult to pin down. Nell accomplishes plenty over the adventure’s first season, such that this common nobody even gets tangled up in the struggle between Queen Anne (Jodhi May) and the Jacobite traitors who would overthrow her. But Renegade Nell never does deliver on...

With Disney+ Highwaywoman Romp ‘Renegade Nell,’ Sally Wainwright Stands and (Mostly) Delivers: TV Review
Image
Having established herself at the BBC with the police procedural “Happy Valley” and the crossdressing costume drama “Gentleman Jack,” screenwriter-turned-showrunner Sally Wainwright has followed countless creatives and taken the Disney shilling to initiate her latest project. You can hardly blame her, given the reduced offer the cash-strapped British broadcaster is now extending even to its more illustrious dramaturges: rarely more than three episodes per series and four characters per scene. Imposed by post-Brexit belt-tightening, this sorry set of limitations has exasperated those obliged to work within them while dispiriting viewers, left watching the life — and the talent — drain from primetime broadcasts.

Mashing up historical and fantastical elements, the pricey-looking, eight-part “Renegade Nell” rides into a surprisingly crowded field for light period entertainments straddling the Stuart and Georgian eras, emerging after the sadly short-lived BBC comedy “The Witchfinder” and Apple TV+’s recent “The Completely Made-Up Adventures of Dick Turpin.” While...

BBC Reporter Gets Heat For “Cringe” Red Carpet Interview With Andrew Scott About Barry Keoghan’s ‘Saltburn’ Nude Scene
Image
Andrew Scott appeared to walk away from a BBC News red carpet interview at the BAFTA Film Awards after being asked about Barry Keoghan’s Saltburn nude dance.

Scott was asked about his reaction to the scene by BBC entertainment correspondent Colin Paterson. “I won’t spoil it for anyone. It’s great, it’s great,” Scott replied.

Paterson then invited Scott to “spoil away” and asked: “There is a lot of talk about prosthetics. How well do you know him?” He waved away the question and motioned to move down the red carpet.

A clip of the exchange has been viewed more than 2M times on Twitter, now known as X. Paterson’s line of questioning to Scott, who is gay, was criticized by X users.

Line of Duty actor Craig Parkinson accused the BBC of “lazy and possibly offensive journalistic pit falls,” while former BBC entertainment commissioner Sohail Shah said it was cringeworthy.

Doctor Who Properly Reveals What Happened To Torchwood After 12 Years
Image
Warning: Contains Spoilers for Doctor Who: Redacted Season 2

Doctor Who: Redacted Season 2 reveals the current state of Torchwood, with all hubs closed and the organization defunct. Abby and Shawna visit Torchwood Two in Glasgow, where they meet a mysterious century-old man hosting an alien life form. It's unlikely that Torchwood will appear in Doctor Who Season 14, but there are rumors of a Torchwood revival in Rtd's new Doctor Who era via Unit.

Doctor Who has revealed what happened to Torchwood after their last TV appearance 12 years ago. The more adult-orientated Doctor Who spinoff aired between 2006 and 2011, coming to an abrupt end with the UK/US co-production Torchwood: Miracle Day. While it was thought that the BBC's deal with Starz may lead to more from Torchwood, it was never to be, despite the best efforts of Captain Jack Harkness actor John Barrowman. Mrs Sidhu Investigates Exclusive Sneak Peek: Two Bodies, One Suspect
Mrs Sidhu Investigates (2023)
Mrs. Sidhu Investigates looks set to be an engaging mystery series with a comedic lick of humor.

The new drama series, headlined by Meera Syal, premieres Monday, September 18, on Acorn TV.

TV Fanatic scored an exclusive first look at the series premiere in which Mrs Sidhu goes up against Dci Burton (Craig Parkinson).

Mrs. Sidhu, a caterer with a taste for solving crimes, is shocked when her niece, Rani, is taken away for questioning after some incriminating evidence.

All of this happens on Mrs. Sidhu's first day catering at Sharpetone, a high-end health club.

Things take a shocking turn when two bodies are found inside the spa.

Initially, Mrs. Sidhu is far more concerned with staying out of the drama until her niece is hauled in for questioning.

Mrs. Sidhu poses plenty of questions to Burton, who is taken aback at the fact that he should be asking the questions.

Mrs Sidhu Investigates (2023)
Acorn TV has been killing it with its mystery dramas filmed across the pond, and its latest looks like another murder-filled winner.

Mrs. Sidhu Investigates stars Meera Syal, Gurjeet Singh (Ackley Bridge), Craig Parkinson, and Naana Agyei-Ampadu (Death in Paradise).

Mrs Sidhu Investigates follows Mrs. Sidhu (Syal), a high-end caterer with a taste for crime who solves murders and other ghastly crimes amongst the affluent residents of Berkshire.

A lifetime of being an "Indian Aunty," invisible to the elite, has sharpened her skills as an investigator: an instinct for truth, a warmth with people and a persistent sense of nosiness.

Recently widowed, Mrs. Sidhu juggles her new catering business with wrangling her wayward son, Tez (Singh), all while serving up justice to those who believe they are above the law.

10 Wasted Doctor Who Villains Who Need To Return In Season 14 Or Later
Image
The Doctor has defeated many villains that have wasted their potential over the years, and this can be addressed in Doctor Who season 14 and beyond. The big-hitter Doctor Who villains: the Daleks, the Master, and the Cybermen have heavily featured across the whole history of Doctor Who, and will likely continue to appear in the show's future. Meanwhile, second-tier villains like the Sontarans, Ice Warriors, and Zygons have all had modern-day updates that have brilliantly realized them for a modern audience. However, there is still a wealth of niche Doctor Who monsters and villains that have a great deal of untapped potential, making them ideal candidates for a return.

Neil Patrick Harris' rumored Celestial Toymaker is one such niche Doctor Who villain that could appear in the new era, but there's room for many more. Many villains either fail to fully live up to their potential either because of weak scripts,...

Zesty Brit Hit ‘Everything I Know About Love’ Mixes Pleasure with Wisdom: TV Review
Image
The success of “Fleabag” loosed a glut of shows about young women tottering – heels broken, mascara smeared – in the vague direction of adult responsibility. Few have been as purely enjoyable as “Everything I Know About Love,” Dolly Alderton’s adaptation of her own memoir, which debuts on Peacock this week after winning plaudits on the BBC in midsummer.

With its photogenic cast, pyjama-party vibe and commitment to steering its characters towards better things, this Working Title-produced, London-set miniseries should provide superior comfort TV for anyone constitutionally unable to face Nathan Fielder’s postmodern provocations or the carnage of a “Game of Thrones” prequel. It’ll be only more comforting the more years you have on the show’s fresh-faced principals.

Alderton’s onscreen surrogate is Maggie Marshall (Emma Appleton), encountered just before the 2012 Olympics as a flighty 24-year-old blogger with a thrusting new beau in porkpie hat-sporting, multiple red flag-raising...

Jodie Whittaker
Doctor Who: the Thirteenth Doctor’s Character Arc is Too Little Too Late
Jodie Whittaker
With two episodes left before she regenerates, we’re only now starting to see the Thirteenth Doctor’s character arc forming: like many Doctors, her whimsy is a front masking a more serious flaw. In this case, it’s that she talks a lot but says little. She’s inactive, preferring to shut people out rather than talk about what’s bothering her (she’s repeatedly snippy in response to Yaz asking reasonable questions). This started to change at the end of ‘Flux’ and during the course of ‘Eve of the Daleks’, which forced her to reach out to everyone in order to save their lives. At this point in her story though, the development feels too little too late.

Have you ever been in a work situation when someone insists on everything going through them, but they’re so busy and/or distracted that this takes forever and they never reply to your emails?...

BBC Three Greenlights ‘Life And Death in The Warehouse’ From BAFTA-Winning Team Behind ‘Killed By My Debt’ & ‘Murdered By My Father’
Image
BBC Three has commissioned its latest factual drama from the BAFTA-winning BBC Studios team behind Killed By My Debt, Murdered By My Father and Murdered For Being Different.

Life and Death in the Warehouse from highly-regarded BBC Studios Drama exec Aysha Rafaele stars Peaky Blinders’ Aimee-Ffion Edwards, In My Skin’s Poppy Lee Friar and Line of Duty’s Craig Parkinson as workers and a manager in a Welsh warehouse, telling of the exploration of working conditions in modern distribution centers.

In the “customer-fixated” culture of these centers, “idle time” (toilet breaks and conversations) and “pick” or “aspirational” rates (number of items picked per hour) are constantly measured with 24-hour surveillance, which can lead to disciplinary hearings and ruthless “off-boarding” (sacking). In a desperate attempt to keep her new job, Megan (Edwards) presses pregnant Alys (Friar) to get her “pick rate” up, putting Alys and her baby at risk.

Doctor Who: Flux – Is the Grand Serpent the Master in Disguise?
Image
Warning: contains spoilers for Doctor Who: Flux Episode 5 ‘Survivors of the Flux’

The first Master story my son ever saw was ‘Spyfall’, last year. A bit later we finally began the pilgrimage and watched the entire New Series over the space of eight or nine months. ‘Spyfall’ clearly had an impact, because every time a new character in a suit turned up, he’d immediately point to the screen and tell me “That’s the Master!”

So, when a mysterious, arch, obviously evil figure in a dapper black suit shows up and people begin to ponder whether he could, in fact, be our favourite renegade Time Lord (now that the Doctor doesn’t count) my first response is scepticism. And yet the recurring and oddly superfluous seeming character of The Grand Serpent does seem to have an awful lot of evidence stacking up against him.

Exhibit A: The Look

Doctor Who: Flux – We Hope This Bel and Vinder Theory Isn’t True
Image
Warning: contains spoilers for Doctor Who: Flux Episode 3 ‘Once, Upon Time’

Amid the confusion masquerading as mystery in ‘Once, Upon Time’, two characters shone with gratifying simplicity: Bel and Vinder – soldiers, heroes, lovers, and soon-to-be parents. While the scree of main plot offered obfuscation and revelations that didn’t reveal much, Bel and Vinder are a foothold. They’re good people in love who’ve been forced apart but who want to be together, and we want them to succeed. Forget the end of the universe; those are all the stakes a story really needs.

We met Bel on the run from the Daleks, reflecting on life post-Flux to an absent Vinder and a present ‘Tigmi’ – a handheld electronic device that displays emoticons..

Bel escapes the Daleks, shoots her way through a battalion of Cybermen, and tells one who calls her stated mission of “love” invalid that “Love is the only mission,...

Fantasia Review: Paul Dood’s Deadly Lunch Break Tells a Hilarious, Ludicrous Quest for Revenge
A mother’s love can move mountains. It must in the case of Paul Dood (Tom Meeten) since he doesn’t really have anything else propelling him forward. Did he aspire to be a superstar? No. He merely asked his mom (June Watson’s Julie) if she thought he had what it took while watching an episode of Britain’s Got Talent. She of course said yes. She said he was “better than anyone else on that show.” Love is blind, though, and unwittingly creates lies—Paul is hardly a Susan Boyle with talent to spare if someone would simply give him a chance. He’s not even a William Hung earning views for second-hand embarrassment. He’s lucky to get three viewers per stream: Mum, Clemmie (Katherine Parkinson), and Bruce (Jarred Christmas).

Director Nick Gillespie and co-writers Matthew White and Brook Driver nevertheless introduce their lead with extreme confidence as...

We discuss everything, ranging from the remarkable sets the actors worked on, to the costumes, and the characters they’ve been given. We talk about the film’s strong, empowering feminist approach, and why even though who turn up their nose to science-fiction, ought to give this one a go. We ask whether the actors were able to nab any memorabilia from the shoot, and we even chat to Parkinson about Line of Duty. Enjoy!
