That comparison might sting a little for ABC, which probably wishes it could achieve Super Bowl ratings numbers for the Oscars, especially following Hulu's glitchy livestream, which likely contributed to a decrease in viewers for the first time in four years.

Conan O’Brien shocked the Oscars with a joke about the ongoing beef between rappers Kendrick Lamar and Drake, and it’s one that earned the joke writer some cash. The news was announced by executive producer Raj Kapoor during a press conference with the creative team. “One of the most exciting things that we’ve worked on this year is a musical performance that will tribute Quincy Jones,” he said, adding that Queen Latifah will be “a part of the performance.”

The Parks and Recreation funnyman will join host Conan O'Brien in show duties that are sure to bring the funny to this year's Oscars. And he's not the only famous face (or voice) to be newly confirmed to present or join the broadcast of the 97th installment of cinematic accolades.

The news was confirmed on Wednesday by The Hollywood Reporter while speaking with executive producer and showrunner Raj Kapoor and executive producer Katy Mullan. The event will be the first time the Emmy Award-winning performer has attended the ceremony.

The Luke Bryan–Peyton Manning bromance continues with the 58th Annual CMA Awards. Bryan and Manning will return as hosts of the 2024 awards show, with Lainey Wilson joining them to make her hosting debut.

There’s one surprising name missing from the Country Music Association Awards list of 2024 nominees: Beyoncé. The artist’s country and Americana album “Cowboy Carter” did not receive any nominations from the awards organization.

Instead, the most nominated artist of the 2024 CMA Awards is Morgan Wallen, who is nominated for major honors including Entertainer of the Year, Single of the Year and Song of the Year. As for CMA Entertainer of the Year — the awards show’s biggest honor — that battle will be taking place this year between Luke Combs, Jelly Roll, Chris Stapleton, Morgan Wallen and Lainey Wilson.

Cody Johnson and Chris Stapleton tied for the second most-nominated artists with five nods apiece. They were then followed by Post Malone and Lainey Wilson, who each secured four nominations, as well as Louis Bell, Luke Combs, Charlie Handsome, Hoskins, Jelly Roll, Megan Moroney and Kacey Musgraves, who each secured three nominations.

With less than a month to go before the 76th Emmy Awards, the telecast’s hosts are finally set. As expected, the father-son duo of Eugene Levy and Dan Levy will emcee this year’s Emmys, which take place on Sunday, Sept. 15, live on ABC.

The two made history in 2020 as the first father and son to win major awards in the same year, thanks to “Schitt’s Creek.” That year — in which winners appeared remotely, due to the Covid-19 pandemic — saw Eugene Levy win for outstanding comedy actor and Dan Levy win for supporting comedy actor. Dan Levy also picked up wins for writing and directing, while both won the outstanding comedy series Emmy as exec producers.

“For two Canadians who won our Emmys in a literal quarantine tent, the idea of being asked to host this year in an actual theater was incentive enough,” the Levys said in a joint statement.

Meredith Hama-Brown’s feature debut “Seagrass,” starring Ally Maki, will debut in U.S. theaters on Feb. 22, beginning with special screenings with the cast and director.

Q&a’s will be held at New York’s Roxy Cinema and Los Angeles’ Laemmle Royal on Feb. 22 and Las Vegas’ Regal Theatre on Feb. 23. Maki will be in Los Angeles, Hama-Brown and cinematographer Norm Li will be in New York, and actor Chris Pang will be in Las Vegas. The film will also have its U.S. festival premiere at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival, screening on Feb. 12 and Feb. 13.

The synopsis for “Seagrass” reads, “Set in the mid 1990’s, a Japanese Canadian woman (Maki) grappling with the recent death of her mother brings her family to a self-development retreat. When her distressed relationship with her husband begins to affect the children’s emotional security, the family is forever changed.”

Jo Koy has heard the critical responses to his Golden Globes monologue.

“I had fun. It was a moment I’ll always remember,” he said of his time hosting the 2024 awards show on GMA3 the morning after. He then paused. “It’s a tough room. It was a hard job. I’m not gonna lie. Getting that gig and then having the amount of time that we had to prepare, that was a crash course.”

When Koy took the stage Sunday night to open the show, he quickly grew defensive in his monologue after he felt some of his jokes falling flat in the Beverly Hilton’s celebrity-filled room.

“I got the gig 10 days ago!” he told the audience. “You want a perfect monologue?”

“Some I wrote, some other people wrote,” said Koy, who was announced as host on Dec. 21. “I wrote some of these, and those are the ones you’re laughing at.

When Jo Koy was announced as Golden Globes host on Dec. 21, it was just a little over two weeks to air. “When they asked me, it was an immediate yes, I couldn’t believe this was happening,” Koy tells Variety. “And then I woke up and went, ‘wait a minute. I have two weeks to write jokes!

“Actually, I think I had less than two weeks because I didn’t get my writers until five days later,” he adds. “When Tina [Fey] and all those other hosts got the gig, they had months to prepare. I’m literally looking at just days! It’s been a crash course in hosting.”

But Koy is relishing this moment. The comedian, who recently sealed a deal to bring his next two stand-up comedy specials to Netflix (his fifth and sixth for the streamer), says he’s aware of the symbolism behind hosting a major awards show ceremony.

Amy Grant and Trisha Yearwood will take on hosting duties during this year’s CMA Country Christmas holiday special. The one-hour Country music-driven special will air on ABC on December 14th at 8pm Et/Pt.

This year marks the 14th edition of CMA Country Christmas, an annual celebration of the winter holidays that kicked off in 2010. Joining Grant and Yearwood to help put Country music fans in the holiday spirit are Jordan Davis, Lady A, Ashley McBryde, Jon Pardi, Lindsey Stirling, The War And Treaty, Zach Williams, and Lainey Wilson.

The special was shot in Nashville in front of a live audience and promises one-of-a-kind performances of classic holiday hits. Jon Macks wrote and Milton Sneed directed the special, with Robert Deaton serving as an executive producer.

Additional performers include Kenny Chesney, Luke Combs, Dan + Shay, Jordan Davis, Hardy, Alan Jackson, Cody Johnson, Post Malone, Mac McAnally, Ashley McBryde, Morgan Wallen, The War And Treaty and the Zac Brown Band.

At the 57th CMA awards, which will take place from the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville on Nov. 8, Ballerini will perform “Leave Me Again” from her extended EP “Rolling Up the Welcome Mat” while Combs will perform his new single “Where the Wild Things Are.” Also in the ceremony, Dan + Shay, who are nominated for this year’s Vocal Duo of the Year, will perform “Save Me The Trouble,” and Davis will take the stage to sing “Next Thing You Know.”

The 57th Annual Country Music Association Awards will be handed out at a live ceremony taking place in Nashville on Wednesday, November 8, and hosted by Luke Bryan and Peyton Manning. Lainey Wilson leads the nominations list, which was announced on September 7. She picked up a remarkable nine bids from her industry peers, including Entertainer of the Year for the first time in her career. Newcomer Jelly Roll is next in line with five nominations. Then come Luke Combs and Hardy with four apiece.

The first “CMA Awards Banquet and Show” was held in 1967. The following year the CMA Awards was broadcast for the first time, making it the longest running annual music awards program on network television.

Luke Bryan, Lainey Wilson and Jelly Roll are among the country artists performing at this year’s CMA awards.

Yellowstone‘s Cole Hauser, Oscar winner Jessica Chastain, and five-time Grammy winner Wynonna Judd are among the celebrities set to present during The 56th Annual CMA Awards. Peyton Manning and Luke Bryan are co-hosting this year’s awards show taking place in Nashville.

Additional presenters include two-time World Series Champ Mookie Betts, CMA Awards nominee Breland, CMA Awards nominee Jordan Davis, actress Sarah Drew, singer/songwriter Tyler Hubbard, and CMA Awards Vocal Group of the Year nominee this year, Lady A.

Also set to present during this year’s broadcast are actor Rex Linn, CMA Awards winner Little Big Town, six-time CMA Awards winner Parker McCollum, six-time CMA Awards winner Reba McEntire, and HomeTown Takeover‘s Ben and Erin Napier. Grand Ole Opry member Jeannie Seely, Oscar nominee Michael Shannon, and six-time CMA Awards nominee this year Lainey Wilson are also presenting.

Bryan, a two-time CMA Entertainment of the Year winner, returns for a second consecutive year to host the awards honoring country music’s best, while Manning is hosting for the first time.

The awards show will air live from Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena on Wednesday, November 9 at 8 Pm on ABC.

Nominees will be announced in the coming weeks.

“Being a part of such a historical night that honors my peers and Country Music is such a privilege,” said Bryan. “When I was asked if Peyton Manning was someone I would consider co-hosting with I didn’t hesitate. We have become great friends through the years and what he brings to the table is gonna make it even more of a blast. I know he’s been to the CMA Awards before, but he’s never been with me.

While Carrie Fisher is best known for her work in front of the camera, she was also a celebrated writer of books and films. The late Star Wars actress and icon, who died at age 60 on Dec. 27 after a heart attack, was even responsible for writing a few key funny one-liners for Oscar hosts and accidentally covering them in glitter.

According to veteran comedian and comedy writer Bruce Vilanch, who hired Fisher to be a part of his Oscar writing teams, she had several great ideas that were too good to air, like Princess Leia singing a Joni Mitchell song...

Wes Anderson's "The Grand Budapest Hotel" won the Original Screenplay honor at the recently concluded Writers Guild Awards while Morten Tyldum's "The Imitation Game" took home the Adapted Screenplay trophy. "The Internet's Own Boy: The Story of Aaron Swarts" written by Brian Knappenberger won Documentary Screenplay award. The film is not nominated for an Academy award.

In TV land, HBO's "True Detective" won the Drama Series award and FX's "Louie" received the Comedy Series trophy.

The Writers Guild of America (WGA) handed out top film honors to the screenplays of "The Grand Budapest Hotel" and "The Imitation Game" Saturday night. On the television side, "Louie" and "True Detective" were favorites, winning two prizes each. Damien Chazelle's "Whiplash" competed in the original category at the WGA Awards, while the Academy's Writers Branch, in a rare move outside of guild designation, deemed it adapted due to the fact that a scene from the feature script was the basis of a short film that screened at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival. So if "The Imitation Game" is to go on to Oscar glory, it will have to compete with Chazelle's popular film for the first time this season at the Feb. 22 Academy Awards ceremony. The Writers Guild of America announced the TV nominees for the 2015 WGA Awards on Thursday (December 4) morning and several new shows broke into the fields in a big way. And, of course, there were a number of big WGA Award nomination head-scratchers. Specifically, where the heck was FX's "Fargo"? The answer is below. Making perhaps the biggest splash was "Transparent," which earned three nominations and, since "Orange Is The New Black" earned two nods and "House of Cards" pick up one, that meant that Amazon Prime and Netflix are, at least for one award-giving organization, on equal footing as creators of original programming. Breaking Bad’s amazing final season always meant that it was a likely winner come awards season. However, the debut of the critically acclaimed True Detective earlier this year did leave many wondering whether it might rob the end to Walter White’s story of one final sweep of prizes at last night’s Emmy Awards.

As it turns out, Breaking Bad would end up being rewarded for those amazing final episodes, though True Detective did earn a very well deserved award for director Cary Joji Fukunaga (who helmed all eight instalments).

The UK was represented by Sherlock, and that too did exceptionally well, walking away with Emmys for Benedict Cumberbatch, Martin Freeman and writer Steven Moffat. Looking at the results, it’s hard to imagine anyone being too upset with the results, though many Game of Thrones fans won’t be happy to see that it was again snubbed.

The 66th Annual Emmy Awards have come and gone; the big winners include greats like Breaking Bad, which won outstanding drama, best actor (Bryan Cranston), best supporting actor (Aaron Paul) and best actress (Anna Gunn). Not too bad for one last victory lap. Matthew McConaughey didn’t pick up a win for True Detective, but he’s had a great year regardless having already picked up an Oscar; he will sleep well.

Well, we’ve just returned from AMPAS with our credentials badge for Wamg to be among the many outlets covering the Academy Awards nominations tomorrow morning.

With the announcement less than 24 hours away, and for the Oscar obsessivas (like us), this has been one of the toughest years to call. Even those of us who compulsively watch the race 365 days a year, all the categories are wide open, with expected surprises and snubs. Actor, and tall-drink-of-cool-water, Chris Hemsworth and Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences President Cheryl Boone Isaacs will announce the 86th Academy Awards nominations on Thursday, January 16.

Boone Isaacs and Hemsworth will unveil the nominations at a 5:38 a.
