I’m not sure there are many people that even remember the Wes Craven-produced film The Breed from 2006. Boasting performances from Michelle Rodriguez and Oliver Hudson, it came and went without much fanfare. Which makes it the perfect candidate for a reboot! Updating the story to be about influencers heading to an island, things go awry when the dogs on the island start attacking them. Because if there’s one group of people I’d love to see get attacked by rabid dogs: it’s influencers.

I chatted with directors Nathan and Griff Furst about the challenges of filming in Guatamala that included nearly everyone on the cast/crew getting sick. Page Kennedy (who will always be Radon Randell from Blue Mountain State to me) was very transparent about how he went to bat for his character. It's been 10 years since Wes Craven passed, but his legacy lives on. The horror master helmed a number of classics, from A Nightmare on Elm Street to Scream, and he also served as producer on countless other "scary movies." More recently, there was The Breed (2006), a creature feature set in an island cabin and centered around ravenous dogs. Now, almost two decades later, the sequel A Breed Apartis being released to the masses courtesy of Lionsgate and helmed by Griff and Nathan Furst. MovieWeb recently spoke with the filmmaker brothers to learn more about their uniquely meta follow-up to The Breed, which, as you'll find out, incorporates the actual production of the Craven-produced 2006 film into the plot itself.

When I was twenty-years-old I watched The Breed, a cheesy killer dog movie starring Michelle Rodriguez at the height of her popularity. By no stretch of the imagination was it a “good” movie, but nearly twenty years later I still remember it. It’s the type of mind-numbing popcorn flick that goes great with an extra cheese pizza and a cold refreshing beer. It’s not the type of movie that I’d ever imagined would get a sequel, especially not nearly two decades later. While A Breed Apart isn’t exactly a direct follow-up to its predecessor, it maintains the absurdity of the original while doubling down on the comedy.

Hayden Panettiere is making the rounds in a number of intense films. While remakes can be hit-or-miss, we hope that the upcoming remake of the natural horror film The Breed does the original 2006 movie justice. We first learned of this film back in May 2024, and more information has come out since then.

The Breed is set to be directed and produced by filmmaking brothers Nathan and Griff Furst. They previously helmed the horror action film Nightmare Shark. After working together on the 2022 thriller Fall, actors Virginia Gardner and Grace Caroline Curry reunite for a remake of the cult classic survival horror film The Breed. This will be the second time they have worked together in the thriller genre.

The 2006 Wes Craven-produced film The Breed followed a group of friends attempting to survive a pack of rabid dogs residing on an island inherited by brothers John and Matt, originally played by Oliver Hudson and Eric Lively. Deadline reports that the remake will be a reimagining of the original film and will thus be a different take on the source material. With the success of Fall, The Breed will see Gardner and Curry once again teaming up to take on the thriller genre. Along with Gardner and Curry, the remakes cast features actor Page Kennedy, known for his role in The Meg.

Gardner has joined the survival pic, reuniting her with Currey (Shazam!) who had already signed on. She played Karolina Dean in Marvel’s Runaways on Hulu and Vicky in David Gordon Green’s Halloween. She also starred in Project Almanac and the Beautiful series.

Gardner and Currey co-starred in Scott Mann’s vertigo thriller Fall. After the success of the first film a sequel is in the works.

The story centers on Sutherland’s Captain Jordan Wright and his squadron, who are granted leave from their mission to attend a crewmate’s wedding in Mexico. While there, festivities are interrupted by a murderous cartel, and, as Jordan attempts to lead his remaining men to safety, war breaks out between his squad and the cartel. Jordan has to engage in a full-scale battle to save his men.

Half Baked 2 will debut on non-theatrical platforms worldwide next year from Universal 1440 Entertainment, a production arm of Universal Filmed Entertainment Group. The original 1998 movie, which also starred Dave Chappelle and Jim Breuer, grossed 17.4M at the domestic box office.

The Bring It On franchise has been around since 2000, taking viewers into the world of cheerleading.

The seventh entry in the series, Bring It On: Cheer Or Die, is a complete overhaul, adding a slasher element that was not present in the prior installments.

Director Karen Lam wanted to switch things up for fans of the franchise.

"I think of this one as the Halloween special, the way a lot of franchise shows have a holiday-themed stand-alone," Lam tells TV Fanatic.

"It’s definitely in the horror category, but it’s a throwback to the fun horror from the 80s, and hopefully something that bridges the fans of Bring It On with horror fans who want a film that’s campy and lighter than really dark fare."

Lam says she considers it the “gateway drug” to horror for teen girls.

Its most recent ventures include British filmmaker Nathalia Syam’s Birmingham-set immigration drama “Footprints on Water,” starring Adil Hussain (“Star Trek: Discovery”), Nimisha Sajayan (Venice title “Shadow of Water”) and Antonio Aakeel (“Slow Horses”), and Vivek Singh Chauhan’s thriller “Rat on a Highway,” starring Randeep Hooda (“Extraction”).

The slate was presented at the ongoing Cannes Market. Upcoming films include sci-fi film “G,” written by Swati Singha, with R. Morgan Freeman and Josh Hutcherson star in “57 Seconds,” a thriller based in the world of tech and big pharma. The film is directed by Rusty Cundieff, and written by Macon Blair, and is based on the acclaimed story by British author E.C. Tubbs.

In “57 Seconds,” tech blogger Franklin Fausti (Hutcherson) lands a career-defining interview with the visionary technology guru Anton Burrell (Morgan Freeman). After thwarting an attack against the celebrated technophile, Franklin picks up a mysterious ring that Burrell has dropped and soon discovers the ring allows its possessor to travel 57 seconds into the past. Syfy’s SurrealEstate will again see the light of day. The Canadian drama series, which was canceled last year, will return for a second season for premiere in 2023, Syfy has revealed.

The series, which stars Tim Rozon, Sarah Levy, Adam Korson, Maurice Dean Wint, Savannah Basley, and Tennille Read, follows an elite team of specialists at The Roman Agency who handle the cases no one else can — haunted and possessed houses that literally scare would-be buyers away.

SurrealEstate will join previously announced new scripted series Reginald the Vampire, a dramedy based on Johnny B. Truant’s Fat Vampire book, and space-set survival drama The Ark, from writer Dean Devlin, as well as Halloween horror movie Bring It On: Cheer or Die.

Syfy’s latest programming slate includes the return of the #1 and #2 new scripted cable series of 2021, the Alan Tudyk-led dramedy Resident Alien and Chucky, executive produced by Don Mancini.

Rusty Cundieff (Tales from the Hood) is directing, the screenplay was written by Macon Blair (I Don’t Feel at Home in This World Anymore), based on the story by British author E.C. Tubbs.

The film follows a tech blogger (Hutcherson) who lands a career-defining interview with a visionary technology guru (Freeman). After thwarting an attack against the celebrated technophile, the blogger picks up a mysterious ring that allows its possessor to travel 57 seconds into the past.

Bankside Films will be introducing the movie to buyers and production is scheduled for November.

Hopper Penn also stars in the film, which comes from a script by “Appaloosa” writer Robert Knott and is based on a 2015 novel of the same name by David Joy.

Some low-voltage thrillers are so thoroughly predictable as they meander toward an obvious outcome, they generate far more impatience than suspense. Exhibit A: “Dead Water,” a tepid VOD-ready melodrama that strikes faint echoes of Roman Polanski’s “Knife in the Water” and Phillip Noyce’s “Dead Calm” while ponderously padding 60 or so minutes of plot to feature length. Time and again, you may find yourself thinking, “Come on, come on, let’s get going.” And if you’re in the privacy of your home, well, thoughts may inspire irritably spoken words.

It doesn’t help much that director Chris Helton provides little in the way of distinctive visual stratagems or subtly ominous subtext during the long setup for his tale of a weekend yacht cruise that turns deadly. And it doesn’t help at all that, as the host of the excursion, Casper Van Dien is so transparently sleazy from the get-go,...

As much a character study as it is a murder mystery, “A Dark Place” is a little under-complicated in both departments. This drama (formerly shown as “Steel Country”) stars Andrew Scott as a small-town Pennsylvania man on the autism spectrum who becomes obsessed with a local child’s seemingly accidental death, ruffling feathers as he conducts his own guileless “investigation.”

One of three top-billed Irish thespians capably playing Yanks here for Brit director Simon Fellows, Scott offers a compelling turn that easily carries the film, as it must. Still, the generally well-acted and competently crafted film should have more depth and punch, given the inherently powerful themes it places center-stage. The result is diverting enough, yet ends up more a mildly offbeat time-filler than something memorable.

When a young boy turns up dead in a sleepy Western Pennsylvania town, Donald, a local garbage truck driver, takes it upon himself to play detective. He embarks on an obsessive investigation to prove that the boy had been murdered, leading to unthinkable and harrowing consequences.

The movie stars Andrew Scott (Sherlock, Victor Frankenstein, Alice Through the Looking Glass), with a supporting cast that includes Bronagh Waugh, Denise Gough, J.D. Evermore, Griff Furst, and Sandra Ellis Lafferty.
