I’m not sure there are many people that even remember the Wes Craven-produced film The Breed from 2006. Boasting performances from Michelle Rodriguez and Oliver Hudson, it came and went without much fanfare. Which makes it the perfect candidate for a reboot! Updating the story to be about influencers heading to an island, things go awry when the dogs on the island start attacking them. Because if there’s one group of people I’d love to see get attacked by rabid dogs: it’s influencers.
I chatted with directors Nathan and Griff Furst about the challenges of filming in Guatamala that included nearly everyone on the cast/crew getting sick. Page Kennedy (who will always be Radon Randell from Blue Mountain State to me) was very transparent about how he went to bat for his character. It's been 10 years since Wes Craven passed, but his legacy lives on. The horror master helmed a number of classics, from A Nightmare on Elm Street to Scream, and he also served as producer on countless other "scary movies." More recently, there was The Breed (2006), a creature feature set in an island cabin and centered around ravenous dogs. Now, almost two decades later, the sequel A Breed Apartis being released to the masses courtesy of Lionsgate and helmed by Griff and Nathan Furst. MovieWeb recently spoke with the filmmaker brothers to learn more about their uniquely meta follow-up to The Breed, which, as you'll find out, incorporates the actual production of the Craven-produced 2006 film into the plot itself.
"It's an unofficial sequel, and the reason why is, it was actually originally pitched to us. We didn't come up with the idea. One of the executive producers, which is the international financier,...

When I was twenty-years-old I watched The Breed, a cheesy killer dog movie starring Michelle Rodriguez at the height of her popularity. By no stretch of the imagination was it a “good” movie, but nearly twenty years later I still remember it. It’s the type of mind-numbing popcorn flick that goes great with an extra cheese pizza and a cold refreshing beer. It’s not the type of movie that I’d ever imagined would get a sequel, especially not nearly two decades later. While A Breed Apart isn’t exactly a direct follow-up to its predecessor, it maintains the absurdity of the original while doubling down on the comedy.
The plot
A movie set is abandoned when the canine actors unexpectedly contract rabies and attack their animal handlers. The dogs are left to freely roam the island until several years later when a group of influencers are called...

Margot Robbie and Will Smith's crime movie, which made over $158 million at the box office, becomes a global Netflix hit nine years later. Two of the biggest stars of their time, Smith rose to fame playing a fictionalized version of himself in the sitcom The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air and transitioned to blockbuster movies during the 1990s, starring in Bad Boys, Men in Black, Independence Day, and more. He started garnering critical acclaim during the 2000s, earning Oscar nominations for Ali and The Pursuit of Happyness, though he didn't win the award until King Richard in 2022.
Similarly, Robbie started her career on television with Neighbours and Pan Am, but broke through with a standout role in Martin Scorsese's The Wolf of Wall Street and collaborated with more acclaimed directors on Quentin Tarantino's Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and Greta Gerwig's Barbie. Michael Keaton is an Oscar-nominated actor with decades of success in Hollywood, but some of his best movies still don't get the audience they deserve. Since breaking through as a comedic actor in the 1980s, Keaton has thrived in a variety of roles. His fame reached a new peak a few years later when he starred in Beetlejuice and Batman in back-to-back years. Although he has been a bankable star for many years, he has a lot of underrated movies.
Michael Keaton's best movies showcase his talents as both a comedic actor and a performer with serious dramatic chops. He can pop up in surprising roles from time to time, since he isn't afraid to throw himself into a supporting role. Although they may not be as famous as some of his biggest hits, these are the movies in which Keaton shows a different side to himself and provides something surprising.

Back in June 2024, we learned that Fall stars Virginia Gardner and Grace Caroline Currey would be starring in an upcoming remake of the natural horror film The Breed. Well, guess who just joined the cast? Scream star Hayden Panettiere! She, along with several others, will be starring alongside Gardner and Currey in the new horror film.
Wait! We need to clear some things up about this movie first. It's not actually a remake. It was initially believed to be one, but instead, it's a sequel to The Breed. It's also been given an official title, A Breed Apart.
While it's still unclear who is writing the script for the film, filmmaking brothers Nathan and Griff Furst (Nightmare Shark) will be directing and producing via their Curmudgeon Films production company. In addition, Daro Film Distribution is signed on to co-produce and will be financing the movie as well.

Late A Nightmare on Elm Street, The Last House on the Left and Scream director Wes Craven was responsible for some of the most iconic movies, characters and moments in horror cinema, but he was also behind his share of duds, and one of 'em is getting a remake.

The Bring It On franchise has been around since 2000, taking viewers into the world of cheerleading.
The seventh entry in the series, Bring It On: Cheer Or Die, is a complete overhaul, adding a slasher element that was not present in the prior installments.
Director Karen Lam wanted to switch things up for fans of the franchise.
"I think of this one as the Halloween special, the way a lot of franchise shows have a holiday-themed stand-alone," Lam tells TV Fanatic.
"It’s definitely in the horror category, but it’s a throwback to the fun horror from the 80s, and hopefully something that bridges the fans of Bring It On with horror fans who want a film that’s campy and lighter than really dark fare."
Lam says she considers it the “gateway drug” to horror for teen girls.

Some low-voltage thrillers are so thoroughly predictable as they meander toward an obvious outcome, they generate far more impatience than suspense. Exhibit A: “Dead Water,” a tepid VOD-ready melodrama that strikes faint echoes of Roman Polanski’s “Knife in the Water” and Phillip Noyce’s “Dead Calm” while ponderously padding 60 or so minutes of plot to feature length. Time and again, you may find yourself thinking, “Come on, come on, let’s get going.” And if you’re in the privacy of your home, well, thoughts may inspire irritably spoken words.
It doesn’t help much that director Chris Helton provides little in the way of distinctive visual stratagems or subtly ominous subtext during the long setup for his tale of a weekend yacht cruise that turns deadly. And it doesn’t help at all that, as the host of the excursion, Casper Van Dien is so transparently sleazy from the get-go,...

"Spooky, isn't it...? Out here, all alone..." Saban Films has revealed the trailer for this indie horror-thriller titled Dead Water, yet another thriller-on-a-boat movie (there seem to be more and more of these boat films these days - see also: Disappearance or Vampyrz on a Boat). When a relaxing getaway turns deadly, a former Marine must risk his life once again to save his wife and best friend from a modern day pirate; all the while trying to hold himself together as he faces the ghosts of the war he left behind. Casper Van Dien (of Starship Troopers fame) stars with Brianne Davis, Griff Furst, and Judd Nelson. This really doesn't look that good, but Casper Van Dien is still awesome - and that shot of him looking pissed is cool. Jump in. Here's the first official trailer (+ poster) for Chris Helton's Dead Water, direct from YouTube: John...

As much a character study as it is a murder mystery, “A Dark Place” is a little under-complicated in both departments. This drama (formerly shown as “Steel Country”) stars Andrew Scott as a small-town Pennsylvania man on the autism spectrum who becomes obsessed with a local child’s seemingly accidental death, ruffling feathers as he conducts his own guileless “investigation.”
One of three top-billed Irish thespians capably playing Yanks here for Brit director Simon Fellows, Scott offers a compelling turn that easily carries the film, as it must. Still, the generally well-acted and competently crafted film should have more depth and punch, given the inherently powerful themes it places center-stage. The result is diverting enough, yet ends up more a mildly offbeat time-filler than something memorable.

I’ve got an intense trailer here for an upcoming backwoods murder mystery thriller called A Dark Place. I enjoy a good murder mystery film and this one actually looks like it could be pretty good.
When a young boy turns up dead in a sleepy Western Pennsylvania town, Donald, a local garbage truck driver, takes it upon himself to play detective. He embarks on an obsessive investigation to prove that the boy had been murdered, leading to unthinkable and harrowing consequences.
The movie stars Andrew Scott (Sherlock, Victor Frankenstein, Alice Through the Looking Glass), with a supporting cast that includes Bronagh Waugh, Denise Gough, J.D. Evermore, Griff Furst, and Sandra Ellis Lafferty.
A Dark Place was directed by Simon Fellows and it will be released on April 12th.

"You know what?! You don't know everything you think you know..." Shout Factory has released the first trailer for an indie backwoods mystery thriller titled A Dark Place, formerly titled Steel Country when it initially premiered at festivals last year. This disappearance mystery film played at the Edinburgh, Galway, and Busan Film Festivals last year, and is getting a small theatrical release this spring. When a young boy goes missing in a sleepy backwoods town, a local sanitation truck driver, Donald, plays detective, embarking on a precarious and obsessive investigation. Andrew Scott stars, with an indie cast including Bronagh Waugh, Denise Gough, J.D. Evermore, Griff Furst, and Sandra Ellis Lafferty. This actually looks solid, even if it is all a bit cliche. The Fosters actor Christopher Meyer and Jalyn Hall, who stars in CW’s new series All American, have been cast in the Netflix drama All Day and a Night, written and directed by Black Panther scribe Joe Robert Cole. The pic stars Moonlight breakout Ashton Sanders as Jah, a young man who committed a homicide and is facing just that. The drama is seen through his Pov as he deals with the repercussions of his actions. Hall will play the younger version of Jah, and Meyer is Lamark, Jah’s best friend. Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson of Color Force and Jared Ian Goldman are producing. Meyer is currently appearing on the fourth season of Showtime’s The Affair, while Hall can next be seen in Universal’s The House With a Clock in Its Walls.
