The latest trailer for Hulu’s A Thousand Blows boxing drama has The Crown star Erin Doherty as Mary Carr trading barbs outside the ring with feared bare knuckle pugilist Sugar Goodson, played by Peaky Blinders star Stephen Graham, to grow her criminal empire.
“Watch me kill him,” a menacing Goodson, the self-declared emperor of London’s East End boxing world, tells Carr, who introduces herself as Queen of an all-female criminal gang known as the Forty Elephants. “Can’t happen,” she defiantly replies, as Carr looks to exploit the talents of Kirby, a Jamaican boxer played by Hezekiah Moscow, who challenges Goodson for survival, and dominance, in the illegal boxing ring.
The result is three lives colliding for control of the criminal underbelly of Victorian London’s East End. A Thousand Blows, based on real-life figures and stories, is produced by The Story Collective in a co-production with Matriarch Productions...

Having made some of the most unmissable TV of the last decade with the likes of Birmingham mob drama Peaky Blinders and high concept Apple TV sci-fi series See, Steven Knight is gearing up to deliver another knockout (in many ways quite literally) with new Disney+ joint A Thousand Blows. Set amidst the dangerous world of illegal boxing in 1880s Victorian London, writer-creator Knight's new show — which has shot its first two six-episode series back-to-back, with the first due to land in 2025 — boasts a powerhouse cast, with Malachi Kirby (Small Axe), Stephen Graham, and Erin Doherty (The Crown) leading a real heavyweight ensemble.
Per the show's official synopsis, A Thousand Blows centres around BAFTA award-winner Kirby's Hezekiah Moscow, who finds himself plunged into "the vibrant and violent melting pot of post-industrial revolution London's East End from Jamaica." The rest of the plot description reads as follows: "Drawn into...

There's value in finding one's wheelhouse, and Steven Knight certainly seems to have settled into his. Since he created "Peaky Blinders" back in 2013, the "Locke" and "Serenity" writer/director has come to specialize in penning similarly subversive period pieces for the small screen. That includes "Taboo," a crime drama series in which Tom Hardy dons a top hat to navigate the corrupt, muck-ridden world of 19th-century London; and "A Christmas Carol," the 2019 mini-series adaptation of Charles Dickens' classic novel that adds an extra helping of horror to the author's treasured ghost story.
Up next, Knight will continue to deal in tales of sweat, blood, and crime with "A Thousand Blows." The series will reunite Knight with his "Peaky Blinders," "Taboo," and "A Christmas Carol" star Stephen Graham, with Knight serving as creator, writer, and executive producer behind the camera. Knight's boxing drama (more on that shortly) will span 12 episodes and...
