Co-written and co-directed by Will Collazo Jr and Julie Anne Prescott (who acted in Thomas J. Churchill’s The Amityville Harvest), Amityville Thanksgiving is something of a curiousity.

The film is partially composed of camcorder footage of Dr. Frank DeMonico (Mark C. Fullhardt), a couples therapist who invites struggling clients to use his secluded cottage over the Thanksgiving weekend as a last ditch effort to save their relationship.

Initially it seems as though the footage is just recordings of Dr. Frank’s sessions, but over time he begins using it as a confessional to admit to his nefarious plot. This coincides with additional footage, often night vision, from cameras planted around the house that allow him to spy on the couples when he’s not there.

With Amityville Uprising, Thomas J. Churchill joins illustrious company as the only director of three Amityville films.

After kicking off his run with Amityville Harvest (2020) which focused on a film crew interviewing a vampire, Churchill’s second entry was 2001’s “werewolf in a women’s half-way house” title Amityville Moon. Now he’s back for his third film in the “series,” a self-referential zombie outing.

What makes the new film intriguing is less the details of the plot – which include a chemical explosion at a military base with unleashes red acid rain on Amityville and reanimates the dead – but how the film acts as the last part of an unofficial Amityville trilogy.

Welcome back to a new year of The Amityville IP. With Amityville Scarecrow, this editorial series leaves behind the scant four “franchise” titles released in 2021 for the gargantuan ten titles released in 2022.

While Scarecrow is a similarly low budget production with some dodgy script decisions (courtesy of screenwriter Shannon Holiday), the emphasis on fractured family dynamics feels more in keeping with the early Amityville entries.

For no apparent reason, the film arbitrarily changes the mythology of the series. In Scarecrow, the Amityville murders were committed by “the Richards brothers,” not by Ronald DeFeo. After the family home was razed, a summer camp was built on the property, but the land became cursed.

Two entries ago, we discussed Thomas J. Churchill’s vampire-themed, title card only “franchise” entry, The Amityville Harvest. I knew that the writer/director had a sequel film, so going into The Amityville Moon was an interesting exercise.

As it turns out, sequel is a generous term for Churchill’s second Amityville film. It shares the same visual aesthetic as Harvest, an actor (Michael Cervantes), and may even be shot in the same location. Aside from that, however, the characters are all new and, in place of a vampire, The Amityville Moon features a werewolf as its central protagonist.

One thing that hasn’t changed: this is another in a long line of Amityville films that uses the famous title as an IP cash grab.

The single biggest recurring question that has arisen over the course of this editorial series is “what constitutes an Amityville film?” It’s the basic impetus to go through all of these films chronologically, regardless of quality or connective tissue to the original film or the books.

It’s also why complaints in the comments that everything past a certain point (ie: either A New Generation or the remake* apparently) no longer qualifies are immaterial and frankly kinda boring. It’s always been more interesting to consider how and why filmmakers are using “Amityville” in their films – for better or worse.

* If the remake counts, then surely The Amityville Murders also counts, no?

With that date right around the corner, the folks at Screen Rant got the exclusive first look at the trailer for Devilreaux, and you can now check it out in the embed above.

The trailer wisely puts a spotlight on Todd’s scenes in the movie, showing him giving intense line delivery and striking down his enemies.

Though after the disappointment of last years Dead Ant I’m approaching these kinds of films with a bit more trepidation these days… On the plus side, Big Freaking Rat comes from director Thomas J. Churchill, who’s only other film I’ve seen is Checkpoint, the Goldberg-headlining action movie that – despite some issues – said a lot about divisions in society being exploited by those in power, be it political or financial. Writer and director Thomas J. Churchill's concept teaser for his new film, simply titled M, has arrived. Touted as a mixture between Quentin Tarantino's Kill Bill and Joss Whedon's Buffy the Vampire Slayer, M is set in 1960s California, where a virus threatens humanity as we know it. M Production Details: "Renowned independent writer/director Thomas J. Churchill has just released the concept teaser trailer for his highly anticipated new action horror thriller "M".

Thomas J. Churchill is an award-winning filmmaker, known for his outstanding work as writer/producer/director on "Nation's Fire", "Check Point", "The Rack Pack", and W"The Emerging Past Director's Cut".

"M" Synopsis: In 1961-Hollywood, California- a lab-manufactured virus is striking hard with a vengeance, taking human lives and then reanimating to an undead status.

Mel Novak is an action star who is best known for his performance as Stick the Assassin in Bruce Lee’s final film Game of Death (1978). Having starred in more than 60 feature films, he has given no indication that he is slowing down and following on for the success of Syndicate Smasher (2017) Mel has several new projects which are due for release soon. I got a chance to ask Mel as few questions about how he got into acting, doing his own fight scenes, stunts and whether there are any characters he like an opportunity to portray on screen again…

How did you first get into acting originally?

I had initially acted in some plays in school and a couple in local theatres. In La, I got a job with an insurance company as a bodily injury claims adjuster. It was there that I met a gal that set up...

Vida Ghaffari is an award-winning actress and voiceover artist who is best known for her appearances on the television comedies, Mind of Mencia on Comedy Central, Jimmy Kimmel Live on ABC and The Mindy Project formerly on Fox. However, after completing a supporting role in Nation’s Fire and the much buzzed about Holy Terror she is really starting to make an impact and recently won the Trailblazer Award at the Universe Multicultural Film Festival (pictured below).

I got an opportunity to ask Vida a few questions about how she got into acting and voiceover work, working with Mel Novak and her various upcoming projects which she is working on.

How did you first get into acting and voiceover work?

I actually got my start as a reporter for an international satellite Persian TV station. I voiced their promos in English and Farsi and then put together my first demos from that.

After winning two awards (Best Horror Film & Best Make-Up) for Lazarus: Day of The Living Dead at the New York City International Film Festival, writer/producer/director Thomas J. Churchill (Lazarus, Ep: The Emerging Past, Syfy’s "Monster Man") and his producing partner David M. Parks (Lazarus, Ep: The Emerging Past) are releasing the first teasers of their next project, the horror/thriller/action film Marilyn Monroe: Zombie Hunter.

Marilyn Monroe: Zombie Hunter will be directed by Churchill from a script he is writing with horror author Joe Knetter and will star model, actress, and scream queen Sarah French as the iconic blonde bombshell turned zombie slayer.

If Abe Lincoln can fight vampires, I see no reason why Marilyn Monroe can't tussle with zombies, and apparently neither does filmmaker Thomas J. Churchill.

A sequel to his upcoming zombie period feature Lazarus: Day of the Living Dead, Marilyn Monroe: Zombie Hunter is set to be directed by Churchill from a script he co-wrote with Joe Knetter, and will star model, actress and scream queen Sarah French (pictured) as the iconic blonde bomb-shell turned zombie slayer. David M. Parks will produce.

Writer/director Thomas J. Churchill's (Syfy's Monster Man, Emerging Past) 1957 styled zombie film Lazarus: Day of the Living Dead tells the story of the beginning of the zombie apocalypse and is scheduled for a July 2014 summer release through Origin Releasing.
