Exclusive: Apple TV+ is expanding its kids and families slate with Shape Island, a new stop-motion animated series based on Mac Barnett and Jon Klassen’s internationally best-selling trilogy of Shapes picture books. Shape Island premieres globally January 20 on Apple TV+.

Featuring the voices of Yvette Nicole Brown (Disenchanted), Harvey Guillen (What We Do in the Shadows), Scott Adsit (30 Rock) and Gideon Adlon (Blockers), Shape Island takes place on a charming island. It follows serious Square, intrepid Circle, and tricky Triangle on their silly adventures as they dig up some fun, search for answers, and build on their friendship – all while learning how to navigate each other’s differences. Exclusive: HBO Max has acquired non-exclusive SVOD rights to the first two seasons of Sinking Ship Entertainment’s Odd Squad for Latin America.

Episodes of the Emmy-winning kids’ comedy math series are expected to launch on the streaming platform in 2022.

Odd Squad is a live-action comedy about kid agents who are equipped with the world’s most advanced and unpredictable gadgetry. Whenever something strange, weird or unusually odd happens, it’s Odd Squad’s job to put things right by using math to solve odd problems.

The series was created by Tim McKeon and Adam Peltzman and is co-produced by Sinking Ship Entertainment and Fred Rogers Productions for PBS, in association with TVOkids. The series premiered on TVOkids in Canada and PBS Kids in the United States in November of 2014. An accompanying Odd Squad movie starring Jack McBrayer was released in 2016.

Netflix on Monday unveiled seven new original preschool series in the works at the streaming company, including a CG animated comedy adventure to premiere this year that serves as an expansion of DreamWorks Animation’s How To Train Your Dragon franchise.

The new series — five animated, one nonfiction, one live-action — aimed at Netflix’s global audience of kids ages 2-6 join previously announced originals on the launchpad including DreamWorks Archibald’s Next Big Thing, Go! Go! Cory Carson and Chico Bon Bon.

They will join current series in the space like Ask the StoryBots, Chip and Potato, Mighty Little Bheem, Motown Magic, Super Monsters, True and the Rainbow Kingdom, Word Party and YooHoo to the Rescue. The content is available on Netflix Kids, a portal that gives adults the ability to prevent access to certain content on their account via age restrictions and PINs.

CBS and The Young and the Restless were the top winners Friday at the Daytime Emmy Creative Arts Awards, which were handed out at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium, the site of tomorrow’s 46th annual Daytime Emmys.

The Young and the Restless scored five nods at the ceremony, which honored the year’s best in children’s and animated programming along with crafts. Baobab Studios’ animated Crow: The Legend and Amazon Prime’s soap After Forever scored four wins apiece.

The syndicated The Ellen DeGeneres Show was one of four shows with three wins apiece, among them for directing and writing. Others with three included HBO’s Sesame Street, which was named Outstanding Preschool Children’s Series; NBC’s Days of Our Lives, which leads all programs this year with 27 total noms; and CBS’ The Talk.
