How Accurate Is Disney's The Hunchback of Notre Dame?
Image
Quick LinksWhat Is The Hunchback of Notre Dame Based On?Disney Simplifies The Hunchback of Notre Dame but Keeps the Story's HeartThe Biggest Differences Between Disney's The Hunchback of Notre Dame and the Original Book

Disney has been adapting famous fairy tales into beloved animated films for decades, but not all its movies are based on children's stories. One notable exception is 1996's The Hunchback of Notre Dame, which follows the Gothic cathedral's fictional bellringer, Quasimodo. While not as highly praised as some of the studio's other films from this era, it was still applauded for its emotional music, beautiful animation and handling of mature themes within a family-friendly context. Nearly 30 years later, The Hunchback of Notre Dame is still considered one of Disney's darkest movies, but it pales in comparison to its source material.

Unlike other Disney animated movies that are based on children's stories, The Hunchback of Notre Dame...

Image
Eva Mendes is a very generous tipper!

The 50-year-old actress was seen handing over a $100 bill to the valet attendant after having lunch with friends on Thursday (December 12) at E Baldi restaurant in Beverly Hills, Calif.

Eva recently shared an update about her family – they just adopted a new dog!

Eva and her longtime partner Ryan Gosling are parents to two children – 10-year-old daughter Esmeralda and eight-year-old daughter Amada. She recently opened up about wanting to break her habit of yelling in the house.

“I’ve never yelled, ‘Shut up!’ or anything. It’s not a mean yell. But it doesn’t matter. I yell,” she said on the Parenting & You podcast (via Today). “I’m doing exactly what my mother did. And I don’t even have a reason to be this way, or a good enough reason, because I haven’t gone through what she went through.”

So, what’s the real story behind Eva Mendes secretly marrying her “Hollywood heartthrob husband”? After years of whispers, Eva finally spilled tea about life with Ryan Gosling. Yep, the same Ryan Gosling who’s got an Oscar nod, a Barbie mega-hit, and a million fans. But to Eva? He’s just the guy who makes her feel “real sexy.” Her words, not ours.

Eva and Ryan sparked romance on The Place Beyond the Pines, set in 2012, with off-screen chemistry that stuck. They quietly wed in 2016 and, true to their style, raised daughters Esmeralda and Amada out of the limelight.

Eva, 50, shared a rare glimpse into their love. The actress didn’t hold back on how his love makes her feel: “The way my man looks at me is just… at times, I’m like, ‘Oh my God,’” she told The Times.

Once upon a time, Eva Mendes dreamt of wearing a habit instead of a Hollywood glam gown. Yes, the sizzling star who lights up the screen with her performances was ready to devote her life to the Catholic Church. But the plot twist? She learned that nuns don’t get paid. Game over for the convent dream!

Growing up in LA, Mendes was raised in a lower-middle-class Cuban-American family. She had visions of becoming a nun dedicated to faith and service. But her sister shattered that holy dream with a simple yet crushing truth: “Eva, you know, nuns don’t get paid.” And just like that, the sacred aspirations evaporated faster than the last slice of pizza at a party.

In her quest for financial stability, Mendes made a sharp turn towards acting. “I wanted to provide...

The Best Disney Villain Song Could Have Been Even Darker
Image
What's the best Disney villain song? I love Scar's devious rallying call "Be Prepared" from "The Lion King." For the feminine villains, "Mother Knows Best" from "Tangled" (sung by Tony winner Donna Murphy as Gothel) is deliciously theatrical.

Ultimately, still, the crown can't go anywhere but to "Hellfire" from "The Hunchback of Notre Dame," as Claude Frollo (the late Tony Jay) sings before a searing fireplace about his lust for Romani "witch" Esmeralda (Demi Moore). Jay's mellifluous baritone was like no other — the actor's voice was so powerful it lifted the song with its echoes.

Now, the "Hunchback" soundtrack is nothing to sneer at, but "Hellfire" is on another level of daring ambition. "Out There" (by Tom Hulce as Quasimodo) is the "yearning song" seen in many a Disney movie, a la "Part of Your World" from "The Little Mermaid" or "Belle's Reprise" from "Beauty and the Beast." Esmeralda's...
