It's a day ending in 'y' folks, so you know what that means... another buzzy new adaptation of a hugely successful video game franchise is in the works! Yes, with everything from Split Fiction to The Legend Of Zelda to Mass Effect currently in various stages of film and TV adaptation development, Netflix — who've enjoyed success in this field with the likes of Arcane, The Witcher, and Castlevania in recent years — have just committed to a biggie. Per Deadline's reporting, after years in limbo, a live-action series based on Ubisoft's stealth action franchise Assassin's Creed has finally been greenlit at the streamer.
Netflix initially announced it was diving into Ubisoft's world of assassins, Animuses (Animi/), and templars way back in October 2020, just three years after Justin Kurzel's somewhat underwhelming, Michael Fassbender starring Assassin's Creed hit cinemas in 2017. Nearly five years after Netflix entered into a content agreement with Ubisoft, the streamer has ordered an Assassin’s Creed live-action series, based on the best-selling video game franchise.
The project will be created, showrun, and executive produced by Roberto Patino and David Wiener. Executive producers also include Gerard Guillemot, Margaret Boykin, Austin Dill for Ubisoft Film & Television, and Matt O’Toole.
Assassin’s Creed, the series, is a high-octane thriller centered on the secret war between two shadowy factions — one set on determining mankind’s future through control and manipulation, while the other fights to preserve free will. The series follows its characters across pivotal historical events as they battle to shape humanity’s destiny.

What Is Ryan Gosling’s Favorite Comedy Movie?(Photo Credit –YouTube)
Ryan Gosling could’ve said Casablanca. He could’ve said Citizen Kane. But no, he picked Step Brothers. While chatting with Still Watching Netflix to promote The Gray Man two years ago, Gosling dropped the kind of cinematic confession that instantly earns him honorary couch potato status.
“You tell people your favorite movie is On the Waterfront when it’s really Step Brothers,” the Barbie star admitted. And frankly, that’s a good take. Let’s break that down: Step Brothers, a film once described by critics as a chaotic mess with juvenile humor, is Gosling’s go-to feel-good flick.

Lately, things have been increasingly weird for Nicholas Hoult. Then again, his characters have always been kind of weird. When we first met him in About A Boy 23 years ago, he played a socially awkward kid determined to secure himself a stepdad in the event his mother (Toni Collette) killed herself. Then in Skins, the TV show that made him far more famous than he was comfortable with, he played the manipulative, morally dubious Tony Stonem. In the closest thing he’s made to a romantic comedy, 2013’s Warm Bodies, he’s a zombie with a literally dead heart. Even Hoult thinks he’s at his best when he’s having the most fun, doing weird shit like getting pissed off with a duck and threatening to eat its liver with a cornichon in Yorgos Lanthimos’ The Favourite, or in George Miller’s Mad Max: Fury Road, where he played Nux,...

Jafar Panahi’s road-movie thriller It Was Just an Accident claimed the A$60,000 Sydney Film Prize at the 72nd Sydney Film Festival’s closing ceremony, drawing a standing ovation inside the State Theatre and praise from a jury that called the picture “courageous” and “brimming with truth”.
Director Justin Kurzel’s panel selected the film for its “audacious, cutting-edge and courageous” approach, the festival confirmed in its winners’ announcement. The award capped a record-breaking edition that sold more than 150,000 tickets—an 11 percent jump on last year, according to festival chief Frances Wallace.
Panahi appeared in person to accept the prize, a rare public outing made possible by the easing of the travel ban that once confined him to Iran. Festival staff kept his visit secret until opening night to avoid jeopardising the director, who spent months in prison and years under house arrest for films that challenge Tehran’s authorities.

“The world breaks everyone, and afterward, many are strong at the broken places”, said Ernest Hemingway. But in Sebastian Stan’s case? He doesn’t just get strong; he shapeshifts, reinvents, and signs six more films like he’s casually ordering coffee.
We’ve always felt that Stan is one of those actors who walks the line between mainstream fame and indie intensity. You blink, and he’s Bucky Barnes crashing through Marvel blockbusters. You blink again, and he’s somewhere in a dark psychological thriller, chewing the scenery with an acclaimed director. And now, even as Avengers: Doomsday looms on the 2026 horizon with Tom Hiddleston beside him, Stan is stacking up a cinematic arsenal outside the Marvel machine and it’s deliciously eclectic.
Oh, and Thunderbolts* just dropped, so yes, he’s still very much knee-deep in super-suits and secrets.

Australian actor Jacob Elordi, known for his standout performances in Saltburn and Priscilla, takes on a harrowing new role as a World War II prisoner of war in The Narrow Road to the Deep North. Based on Richard Flanagan’s Booker Prize-winning novel, the Prime Video miniseries is set in Elordi’s hometown and marks another major milestone in the actor’s fast-rising career. Immediately after wrapping, the actor stepped into another demanding role — as the creature in Guillermo del Toro’s upcoming adaptation of Frankenstein. Below, Elordi opens up about diving into the emotional and physical landscape of The Narrow Road, his experience returning to work in Australia and the unexpected connection between playing a Pow and his role in Frankenstein.

Jacob Elordi says embodying Dorrigo Evans in the five-part miniseries The Narrow Road to the Deep North forced him “through a layer of hell,” yet deepened his commitment to acting’s “circus,” a passion he insists keeps growing with each role. The Australian actor shed weight to portray the starving Pow, joining dozens of extras on a six-week regimen that director Justin Kurzel believes gave the rail-camp scenes “a brutal truth.”
Produced by Sony and Amazon, the adaptation of Richard Flanagan’s Booker-winning novel premiered in April and will move to the BBC and other outlets later this year. Industry notes from the Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts describe the series as charting Evans’s path from clandestine romance to reluctant national hero. Critics have responded warmly; Rotten Tomatoes lists 100 percent approval, praising Elordi’s performance as “sterling,” and Guardian reviewer Luke Buckmaster highlighted the chemistry between Elordi and Odessa Young.

Jacob Elordi keeps waiting for the day he might lose his love for acting. It hasn’t happened yet, and he hopes it never will.
In fact, the Australian actor, who most recently played a haunted prisoner of war in Justin Kurzel’s The Narrow Road to the Deep North, feels like he’s just getting started.
“I’m just incredibly open to being a part of the circus right now, in a way. I really love being an actor. I don’t know, silly as that it may sound, the love for it just keeps going deeper and deeper,” he tells Deadline.
In The Narrow Road to the Deep North, adapted from Richard Flanagan’s novel, Elordi stars as Lieutenant-Colonel Dorrigo Evans, a celebrated World War II hero who is haunted by his experiences in a Japanese prisoner of war camp and memories of an affair with Amy Mulvaney...

Without knowing it, Jacob Elordi and Justin Kurzel had formed a mutual admiration society prior to collaborating on the limited series “The Narrow Road to the Deep North.” Elordi had been a fan of the filmmaker, a fellow Aussie, since seeing Kurzel’s gutting 2011 feature debut, “Snowtown,” when he was a young teenager. “Especially in Australia, it’s one of the first films that you find when you’re in high school that’s a little different and you have to talk to people about,” says the actor.
Kurzel, like the rest of the world, had been watching Elordi’s ascent in projects like “Euphoria,” “Priscilla” and “Saltburn.” He sent the actor an email saying he was adapting Richard Flanagan’s acclaimed novel “The Narrow Road to the Deep North” for television. Jacob Elordi’s latest project is a return to TV with Justin Kurzel’s limited series “The Narrow Road to the Deep North,” which premiered on Prime Video last month. Following its premiere in Berlin in February, reviews raved about Elordi’s performance as 1940s war doctor Dorrigo Evans, following the Aussie story adapted from Richard Flanagan’s novel of the same name.
For his first television role following “Euphoria,” Elordi was particularly drawn in by director Kurzel, who sent him an email asking if he had interest in the project, and in turn, led him toward his most profound performance to date. Upon signing onto the series, he had 12 months to sit with the material and prepare before filming began. “I had about a year to myself to marinate in all of the period information and in the book. One of the most chilling scenes in Justin Kurzel's "The Order" (a movie that's found a larger audience thanks to streaming) takes place at the National Alliance convention. There, Bob Mathews (Nicholas Hoult), the leader of the neo-Nazi terrorist group The Order (aka Silent Brotherhood), delivers a speech to recruit soldiers. The room he stands in is covered with giant swastikas and blood-red and freedom-blue American flags, and its air is heavy with hate and testosterone. Mathews knows his crowd. He pleads with the desperation and anger of these people, saying, "If you're like me, I'm not sure how much more talk I can hear. Cause that's all it is, isn't it? Talk, talk ... talk!" No action, no real results. He knows all the pressure points of the mind of a white supremacist to keep on pushing until empty words of hatred turn into vile actions of racism and violence.

Jacob Elordi’s performance in The Narrow Road Into the Deep North earned a last-minute shift onto the Primetime Emmy ballot, positioning the five-part Australian drama against heavyweight contenders in limited-series categories. Sony Pictures Television and Prime Video submitted the show just before the Television Academy’s May 8 deadline, moving it from the International branch into contention for Best Limited or Anthology Series, Lead Actor (Elordi), Directing (Justin Kurzel) and Writing (Shaun Grant).
Adapted from Richard Flanagan’s Booker Prize–winning novel, The Narrow Road Into the Deep North follows an Australian surgeon before and after World War II. Elordi portrays the younger version of a doctor whose Pow experience is haunted by memories of a wartime affair (Odessa Young) and revisited decades later by Ciarán Hinds. Since its April 18 release on Prime Video, the series has achieved a perfect Rotten Tomatoes rating, edging past Netflix’s British import Adolescence.

At the last minute, the Emmys race is getting a big new contender.
The Hollywood Reporter can exclusively report that The Narrow Road to the Deep North, a hugely acclaimed Australian limited series that was directed by Justin Kurzel (Nitram and The Order) and stars Jacob Elordi (Euphoria and Saltburn), was submitted for Primetime — as opposed to International — Emmys consideration just ahead of the TV Academy’s May 8 entry deadline.
The show, which Sony Pictures Television licensed to Amazon’s Prime Video, and which dropped on that streaming service April 18, will be on the ballot in a handful of categories: best limited or anthology series, actor in a limited or anthology series or a TV movie (Elordi), directing for a limited or anthology series or a TV movie (Kurzel), and writing for a limited or anthology series or a TV movie (Shaun Grant, who penned all five episodes).

It has been 5 years since it was announced that a TV adaptation of the Ubisoft gameAssassin's Creed will be produced and released on Netflix. And while updates have been scarce, this latest one should excite fans as multiple TV veterans were hired to be part of the show's writers' room. The Assassin's Creed franchise is getting a redo in live-action, and Netflix has moved quickly to assemble a team of veteran television writers for their upcoming streaming series adaptation. The best-selling action adventure franchise famously got a feature film released in theaters in 2016 starring Michael Fassbender, but it proved to be another misstep in the video game movie genre. The streamer looks to rewrite history with their new live-action series, which will be spearheaded by a Westworld alum.

Sebastian Stan and Leo Woodall are headed to the farm. The two actors are slated to topline the latest true-crime film from director Justin Kurzel, a thrilling story about one of the biggest, most dramatic FBI/police sieges America has ever experienced. It's called Burning Rainbow Farm, and entertainment and film production company Rocket Science is bringing it to the Cannes Film Festival this month in hopes of reeling in a big-time studio distributor. And given the talent and story involved, we feel fairly certain the film will achieve exactly that.
Per a report from The Hollywood Reporter, Burning Rainbow Farm "tells the true story of Tom Crosslin and Rollie Rohm, a gay couple in rural Michigan who build a peaceful, pot-friendly utopia" together. But "when the two run afoul of local authorities and their young son is taken from them, a standoff ensues." Stan plays Crosslin, while Woodall plays Rollie Rohm.
