10 Anime Villains Even More Evil Than Dragon Ball Z's Frieza
Image
Many of the most popular anime villains of all time are sympathetic, or at least nuanced. On the flip side, there are figures like Frieza, who are loved for how unabashedly wicked they are. Frieza is an anime icon, but he's also sadistic, manipulative, responsible for the deaths and oppression of billions, and lacking in any redeemable traits.

Dragon Ball Z's Frieza is one of the most evil characters in any anime, but there are far more cruel villains in other series. Cruel as Frieza may be, he can be reasoned with. He treats those who are loyal and useful to him well, and Dragon Ball Z, being a shōnen anime meant to be appropriate for kids, keeps the forms of crimes he commits restrained. Few antagonists can match the number of people killed by the Emperor of the Universe, but that doesn't mean they can't be worse in their own ways.

10 Anime That'd Be As Popular As Dbz If They Aired On Toonami in the '90s
Image
Cartoon Network's Toonami block was the primary means by which many in the '90s and early 2000s first became anime fans. While the block didn't exclusively feature anime, the success of series like Dragon Ball Z resulted in them becoming Toonami's main draw. Not every anime that aired on Toonami became popular because, by the 2000s, the market had become much more competitive. Had more anime been featured in the '90s, however, they would have had a better chance at achieving mainstream success.

The '90s were filled with outstanding anime that would be far more loved than they are if only they'd aired on Toonami next to Dragon Ball Z. The only requirement to belong on Toonami would have been for them to prominently feature action, with the block featuring series from a variety of genres. Various battle shōnen anime series, sports anime, sci-fi and fantasy anime,...

10 Series That Prove the ‘90s Were the Golden Age of Anime
Image
While the anime medium is seen to have begun in the 1960s, it took a while before it began its current global dominance. The 1980s and 1990s were pivotal in making anime mainstream, namely in the West. In fact, several entries on the Toonami programming block were instrumental in building in-roads for a generation of fans.

The 1990s was the introductory decade for some anime lovers, and it pulled this off through a multitude of genres. From giant robots and magical girls to gritty black swordsmen and battle-ready Saiyans, this era had it all in terms of diversity. It's no wonder these classics are still so fondly remembered today, especially among nostalgic otaku.

10 Anime You Don’t Know The Whole Story To Unless You’ve Read The Manga
Image
While watching Japanese anime is great fun, adding color and movement to the original manga's material, something may be lost along the way. A surprising number of anime series will fail to adapt all the material, either by skipping some scenes or arcs to reach the ending sooner, or by stopping before the ending even happens. In either case, anime-only fans aren't getting the whole story, which may lead to an unsatisfying watch.

A combination of complete and ongoing anime series fit this category, and in the former case, reading the source manga is the only way to finish the whole story. In the latter case, an anime might get future season to continue or finish the story, but fans might not want to wait that long. Whether or not future seasons of the anime are confirmed, it may still be a good idea to complete the story in manga...

Collins is the voice actor of Griffith, who has also been cast in various other major roles in the anime industry.

10 Waifu & Husbando Crossover Ships That Should Happen
Image
"Waifu" and "husbando" are popular pet terms for anime characters that fans tend to have crushes on. Husbandos tend to be handsome, genteel, and talented; fans admire qualities in them that would also be good in a real life suitor. Waifus tend to be beautiful, powerful, and kind.

Not all waifus and husbandos are created equally, of course. Some rise to fan-favorite status despite being incredibly moody, or even toxic. Their looks and romance plots tend to make up for any personality flaws. Waifus and husbandos come in all shapes and sizes: they can be stoic kuuderes, sweeter than honey derederes, and explosive tsunderes. They have such fan appeal, that they have crossover potential, both in fanfiction and in the anime world.

‘General Hospital’ Star Genie Francis Is Done Defending Infamous Luke and Laura Rape Scene
Image
If there’s one defining moment in American soap operas, it’s Luke and Laura’s wedding on “General Hospital.” The nuptials of the super-couple (played by Anthony Geary and Genie Francis) was a major television event when it aired in November 1981, bringing in 30 million viewers to the ABC series and making the duo one of the most iconic couples in soap history.

But as famous and beloved as the couple is, their relationship started on an extremely ugly note. In an October 1979 episode, Luke raped her, and although the show initially played it as such, the event was later looked back on as a “seduction” due to the popularity of the pairing. Although the characters remained together for years, with their love story a major part of the series until Geary left the cast in 2015, the assault cast a large shadow over the rest of their storylines. And Francis,...

Berserk: The Golden Age Arc I is a welcome anime reboot, despite its brevity
For newcomers to Kentaro Miura’s Beserk, The Golden Age Arc I – The Egg of the King will be a delightfully gory anime adventure. The first installment of the three-part series mixes middle-age architecture with fantastical elements drawn from Greek mythology. It’s one of the more serious anime on the market that doesn’t waste time with silly jokes and puns. There are even a couple epic siege scenes that appear to be inspired by Lord of the Rings – and one scene that reminded me of the siege on Kings Landing in Game of Thrones.

From the moment you begin watching it, you’ll relish in the brutal actions of Guts, a mercenary who feels more like a samurai gone rōnin. Even when the Arc I slams to a close, without any definitive ending, you’ll still be anxious to see part 2. Unfortunately, if you’re a fan of...

Interview with James Tucker (Aunt Rose)
James Tucker is the director behind Aunt Rose starring Joshua Nelson, Elizabeth Cooke, Velocity Chyaldd, Raine Brown and Kevin T. Collins. Aunt Rose follows a family who is token hostage by a group of criminals, however what they didn't anticpate was having to deal with Aunt Rose. You see Aunt Rose may appear sickley, but she has some supernatural powers that she isn't afraid to deploy in order to save her family. We wanted to know more about James Tucker, his work relationship with Joshua Nelson, and of course the movie, Aunt Rose. Here is what he had to say.

So who is James Tucker and what are you all about?

I am a filmmaker who loves to work behind and in front of the camera. As fate would have it, my first speaking role as an actor was in a comedy, the original Hairspray film directed by John Waters.

The Sickness gets even sicker; new photos
Writer/director Carl Paolino got in touch with an update on his indie shocker The Sickness, and sent along a couple of new pics. Originally completed last year, the movie recently went back for reshoots to punch up the horror content.

See our exclusive new photos and get the full details on the film below the cut.

“When you are shooting a low-budget feature film in the digital format,” Paolino tells Fango, “you have so many more production options open to you than if you shot it on film. To this end, we successfully produced four new scenes that contain some very graphic violence and cut them into the film where we felt it was needed most.”

Paolino came to the decision to create the additional material after being advised by a couple of prominent distribution companies that its marketability would benefit from the additional grue. Still, he was pleased...
