Apollo 13 director Ron Howard and producer Brian Grazer paid tribute today to Jim Lovell, commander of the ill-fated moon mission on which they based their hit 1995 movie. The astronaut died Thursday at 97.

“Jim Lovell was a true American hero whose courage, intellect and grace under pressure inspired a nation,” Grazer said in a statement. “He was not only a legend in space exploration, but also an incredibly generous, kind and inspiring man. Pete Davidson is opening up about the reality of working on lower-budget indie film sets.

The Saturday Night Live alum made an appearance on the latest installment of Hot Ones, where he was asked by host Sean Evans about his experience working alongside the legendary Bill Murray.

That’s when Davidson recalled his indie crime comedy Riff Raff, which also starred Murray. Despite getting to work with the “icon of comedy and film” on the project, he also remembered how “tough” indie films can be to make.

“The movie we did — it’s a tough one because it’s an indie, so there’s no budget and there’s not anything glamorous about it,” Davidson explained. “No one makes money, no one’s comfortable, it’s strictly like for the art.”

However, the Bupkis actor added that Murray offered him a lot of guidance to help make the indie set experience a bit easier.

The MCU is expanding more of its franchises. Black Panther is the only Marvel Cinematic franchise to have one of its films nominated for Best Picture, and its prequel, Eyes of Wakanda is debuting early on Disney+.

Originally set to stream on Aug. 27, Eyes of Wakanda has been pushed forward to Aug. 1. Furthermore, showrunner Ed Harris sat down withEntertainment Weekly to promote the show and explain the prequel.

The 1995 film is coming to the big screen just in time for its 30th anniversary, and for the 55th anniversary of the harrowing space mission that inspired it. Apollo 13 will screen in selected IMAX theaters on September 19.

This is the second time Apollo 13 has come to IMAX theaters. In 2002, it became the first film ever to be remastered with IMAX Dmr technology; previously, most IMAX films had been shot specifically for IMAX projection. However, it had to be recut to play in IMAX theaters; the film, in its normal state, has a running time of 140 minutes, and at the time, IMAX film reels were so physically enormous that no film with a length over two hours could be shown with an IMAX projector.

During his talks, the director stated that he is trying not to spoil everything away, but the upcoming movie will deal with an existential crisis for Tom Cruise’s Pete Mitchell.

The Night Agent's Gabriel Basso is saddling up for a role in a new Western drama. He'll star in Cowboy, a movie centering around the lives of a group of rodeo performers. Ben Foster (Hell or High Water) and Rudy Pankow (Outer Banks) are also set to star in the film. Deadline reports that Cowboy has begun production.

The film will be the directorial debut of Cameron Duddy, a member of the country group Midland. Duddy also wrote the film's script with bandmate Jess Carson; Midland's third member, Mark Wystrach (The Eyes of Tammy Faye), will co-star in the film alongside Basso, Foster, Pankow, and retired Tennessee Titans tackle Taylor Lewan. The film will focus on a troupe of traveling rodeo performers, who seek fame amidst the drudgery of life on the road and the dangerous, punishing sport in the arena. Stephen King’s “The Stand” is getting a new adaptation, with Paramount securing Doug Liman to direct the new adaptation of the author’s apocalyptic 1978 tome.

Liman will also produce along with Tyler Thompson of Cross Creek Pictures, with the two previously collaborating on “American Made,” the based-on-a-true-story drama starring Tom Cruise.

Largely thought to be one of King’s greatest accomplishments, “The Stand” takes place in the aftermath of a pandemic caused by a weaponized virus (dubbed Captain Trips), where the survivors are either swayed by the forces of good or those of evil, personified by Randall Flagg, who would go on to become a recurring figure in some of King’s other work, most notably the “Dark Tower” series of novels.

This all leads to a final battle between good and evil. The search is now on for a writer to tackle the project.
