Sandra Bullock‘s Gravity had arguably one of the best cheeky nods to Apollo 13, the 1995 film starring Tom Hanks. Being a movie about space, the film starts right off with George Clooney’s character talking to Earth and stating, “Houston, I have a bad feeling about this mission”.
A voice from the intercom states, “Please expand”. In the movie, that voice belongs to the head of Mission Control in Houston, Texas. However, the voice over the intercom was actually Ed Harris’s. For those of you who may not know him, Ed Harris is an iconic actor who portrayed the role of White Team Flight Director Gene Kranz in the 1995 film Apollo 13.
Gene Kranz was responsible for safely bringing the three astronauts back, both in real life and in the Tom Hanks movie. The homage was a sweet gesture (and a genius on director Alfonso Cuarón‘s part...

Apollo 13 director Ron Howard and producer Brian Grazer paid tribute today to Jim Lovell, commander of the ill-fated moon mission on which they based their hit 1995 movie. The astronaut died Thursday at 97.
“Jim Lovell was a true American hero whose courage, intellect and grace under pressure inspired a nation,” Grazer said in a statement. “He was not only a legend in space exploration, but also an incredibly generous, kind and inspiring man. Thank you, Commander Lovell, for showing us the best of what we can be.”
Howard said: “Rest in peace, Commander Lovell. Navy test pilot, Gemini 7, Gemini 12, Apollo 8 and, of course, Apollo 13. Simply knowing Jim has been a tremendous honor. His combination of intellect, courage and commitment to duty made him one of the most remarkable individuals I’ve ever met. His support of our movie-making efforts inspired authenticity and elevated our process in so many ways. Thank you,...

Well, it even happens to the best of us. Of course, we are talking about Prince William as there’s heavy speculation on social media suggesting that he’s worried about his ‘fading looks.’
And we are not just talking about his fading hairline here. He’s worried that no one is going to take him seriously if he ends up aging like his father and not like his beloved late mother, Princess Diana.
Prince William Is Worried About His Fading Looks
In fact, some sources close to the situation think the Prince of Wales thought he could just skid on by with his good looks and charming ways, but that hasn’t been the case at all.
Unlike his mother Princess Diana, he can’t just walk in a room and expect people to fawn over him. Sure, that might have happened ten or fifteen years ago, but he...

Darren Aronofksy's extremely polarizing horror filmmother! has found a new streaming home on Paramount+, giving subscribers a chance to re-evaluate a release that divided audiences in 2017. Some were swept up in Aronofsky's star-studded metaphor, but just as many were disgusted by how far he was willing to go to make a point.
The plot can be summed up as the story of a woman who's living with her husband, an author, in a mansion in the middle of nowhere. He's suffering from writer's block, and she spends her days renovating the house. When a stranger knocks on their door, and his family arrives soon thereafter, an ordeal begins for the woman. Per the Rotten Tomatoes synopsis of the film:

Subhash K Jha celebrates Irrfan Khan snd Dulquer’s comedy drama, Karwaan, which hit the big screen in 2018. We also hear from the director about working with the Irrfan Khan on Karwaan and more.
Excavating humour from the innards of mortality is never easy. Writer-Director Akarsh Khurana attempts the near-impossible and comes up with a film that never offends, even when it poses some serious problems of pacing.
You know that the film is looking for ways to keep the journey going when there are unnecessary detours on the way. And why not?! Dulquer’s Avinash is a repressed unhappy 10-5 geek who hates his bullying boss (Adhaar Khurana) and wants nothing more, nothing less, than to break out of his executive dungeon and …well, just shoot pictures with an actual camera, not its digital doppelgangers.

Pete Davidson is opening up about the reality of working on lower-budget indie film sets.
The Saturday Night Live alum made an appearance on the latest installment of Hot Ones, where he was asked by host Sean Evans about his experience working alongside the legendary Bill Murray.
That’s when Davidson recalled his indie crime comedy Riff Raff, which also starred Murray. Despite getting to work with the “icon of comedy and film” on the project, he also remembered how “tough” indie films can be to make.
“The movie we did — it’s a tough one because it’s an indie, so there’s no budget and there’s not anything glamorous about it,” Davidson explained. “No one makes money, no one’s comfortable, it’s strictly like for the art.”
However, the Bupkis actor added that Murray offered him a lot of guidance to help make the indie set experience a bit easier.

Pete Davidson is detailing his experience on indie film sets…and he’s not totally a fan. The “SNL” alum said during “Hot Ones” in the below video that “there’s not anything glamorous” about starring in independent films.
He recently appeared in TIFF 2024 indie crime comedy “Riff Raff” alongside Jennifer Coolidge, Ed Harris, Gabrielle Union, Lewis Pullman, Michael Angelo Corvino, and Davidson’s own personal icon, Bill Murray. Davidson and Murray played two gangsters who are hunting down an ex-criminal family over the holidays. Yet despite the star-studded cast, “Riff Raff” wasn’t a “comfortable” experience.

Ari Aster’s “Eddington” is here.
The movie, which pits a small-town sheriff (Joaquin Phoenix) against his mayor (Pedro Pascal), set during the early days of the global pandemic, is fierce and raw. Considering this is from Aster, the director of “Midsommar,” “Hereditary” and “Beau is Afraid,” it is also confrontational and strange and deeply funny, with the action set at the precipice of the complete breakdown in communication that accompanied lockdown. (Indiewire called it “the first truly modern American Western.”)
And if you come out of “Eddington” looking for more offbeat westerns to watch, we’ve got seven that should fill that void nicely.
Paramount “Bad Company” (1972)
In the 1960s and 1970s, there was a slew of what were referred to as “acid westerns” – westerns that were set in the distant past but that embraced the counterculture of the period, including, of course, recreational drug use. (Hence the “acid” in “acid western.

"Gentlemen, let's go home..." Universal has unveiled a brand new official trailer for the re-release of Apollo 13, celebrating its 30th Anniversary this year. Directed by Ron Howard, this masterpiece space docu-drama tells the entirely true story of NASA's Apollo 13 Moon mission which went wrong & experienced a problem. The 3 astronauts on board and everyone down on Earth had to figure out a way to get them back safely and hope they could pull it off. And boy oh boy, did they. One of my all-time favorite space movies, featuring an all-time unforgettable score by James Horner (Rip) along with one of Tom Hanks greatest performances. I went to see it many times back in 1995. The Ron Howard astronaut drama Apollo 13 is turning 30 this year, and, to celebrate, Universal & Imagine Entertainment are bringing the award-winning film back to theaters in IMAX format. The film, which stars Tom Hanks, Gary Sinise, Kevin Bacon, Ed Harris and Bill Paxton, was the first live-action film to be digitally remastered using IMAX‘s proprietary Dmr technology. It was, then, re-released in 2002 as Apollo 13: The IMAX Experience. At the time, 13 minutes of the film were cut to accommodate the limitations of the IMAX film platter used in projection. Now, from September 19 to September 25, Apollo 13‘s IMAX remaster will be shown in its full-length theatrical version for the first time ever.

While failure is not an option, this fall, you'll have the option of watching Ron Howard's classic space thriller Apollo 13 on an IMAX screen. The 1995 film is coming to the big screen just in time for its 30th anniversary, and for the 55th anniversary of the harrowing space mission that inspired it. Apollo 13 will screen in selected IMAX theaters on September 19.
This is the second time Apollo 13 has come to IMAX theaters. In 2002, it became the first film ever to be remastered with IMAX Dmr technology; previously, most IMAX films had been shot specifically for IMAX projection. However, it had to be recut to play in IMAX theaters; the film, in its normal state, has a running time of 140 minutes, and at the time, IMAX film reels were so physically enormous that no film with a length over two hours could be shown with an IMAX projector.

In a new interesting bit of a promo from Marvel Studios, the official social media account posted somewhat of a peek into the upcoming Wonder Man series, but it’s in the form of a faux red carpet interview. Yahya Abdul-Mateen II shows up at the blue carpet of the premiere of The Fantastic Four: First Steps, where he gives an interview as the Simon Williams character from Wonder Man. In the small clip, Williams talks about being a fan of Wonder Man and superheroes, and even says the Wonder Man movie was the first movie he saw in theaters and yearned to be a superhero afterwards.
Things take a turn when the reporter asks about his affiliation with Trevor Slattery, who portrayed the face of The Mandarin in Iron Man 3 and showed up again in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. It was then that Williams...

While all eyes are on The Fantastic Four: First Steps, Marvel Studios is already promoting one of their next projects, Wonder Man, in a very tongue-in-cheek way. Wonder Man stars Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Simon Williams, who becomes the titular superhero. Pitched as a superhero comedy about a struggling actor, not much is known about the Wonder Man series...despite it being just five months away from release. It is the next live-action entry in the franchise following The Fantastic Four: First Steps, and Marvel used the fact that all eyes would be on the MCU reboot's premiere to their advantage, beginning the soft launch promotional campaign for the next Disney+ series.

A representative from the Department of Damage Control is now bringing his services to Wonder Man. News broke yesterday that Emmy-nominated Succession star Arian Moayed will reprise his role as Agent Cleary from Spider-Man: No Way Home and Ms. Marvel in Marvel's latest series, coming this December. According to reports, he's set to be a major factor in the story of Yahya Abdul-Mateen II's Simon Williams following his transformation into the titular superhero. Notably, Moayed is the second major MCU alum to be confirmed for the Hollywood-centric satire, with Sir Ben Kingsley already attached as actor Trevor Slattery.
The story of Wonder Man is still being kept a secret, even though it's only a few short months away from hitting Disney+. It is known, however, that it'll explore the entertainment industry through the unique perspective of Williams, a stuntman and actor-turned-superhero. A brief teaser in Disney+'s second-half slate...

Ben Kingsley is no longer the only returning Marvel Cinematic Universe star in Wonder Man. Arian Moayed will also appear in the forthcoming Disney+ series.
According to Deadline, Moayed's Agent P. Cleary will "feature prominently" in Wonder Man, which is set to premiere on Disney+ this December. The actor made his MCU debut as the high-ranking Department of Damage Control agent in 2021's Spider-Man: No Way Home, before returning for multiple episodes of Ms. Marvel the following year. Moayed is the second major MCU reprisal in Wonder Man after Kingsley, who is back as failed thespian Trevor Slattery for the fourth time. His previous MCU appearances include Iron Man 3, the Marvel One-Shot All Hail the King, and Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.

Titus Welliver wrapped up the final season of Bosch: Legacy earlier this year, and although he’s due to feature in several episodes of the Ballard spin-off, another older project from the star has become a surprising streaming hit. Welliver stars alongside Jeremy Renner (Mayor of Kingstown) and Ben Affleck (Argo) in The Town, the classic crime thriller following a group of thieves who rob a bank and hold the manager hostage. The Town is currently streaming on Netflix. Unfortunately, after a run of streaming success, the streamer has confirmed that the last day to watch the film will be on July 31. The Town earned strong scores of 92% from critics and 85% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes, and it grossed a whopping $154 million at the global box office against a modest $37 million budget.

Marvel is finally giving fans a proper look at Wonder Man, and it’s already turning heads. A brand new promo from Disney+ shows Yahya Abdul-Mateen II stepping into the role of Simon Williams, a Hollywood actor who suddenly finds himself with some seriously intense superpowers.
This new footage is the first real peek at the live-action show, and Simon is clearly struggling. One moment, he’s smashing a table. Another, he’s screaming in pain. It’s not all action, though; there’s also a brief scene where Simon is talking to Trevor Slattery, once again played by Sir Ben Kingsley.
Fans will remember Slattery from Iron Man 3, where he pretended to be the Mandarin, and then again in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. Now he’s back, and it looks like he’ll be part of Simon’s wild story.

Marvel Studios is finally pulling back the curtain on Wonder Man, and the first real footage is giving fans something to talk about. In a new promo video released by Disney+, we get a much better look at the upcoming live-action series starring Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Simon Williams, an actor-turned-superhero with powers he can barely control.
The sneak peek shows Simon in action for the first time, and it’s clear he’s going through a lot. One clip shows him smashing a table, another has him screaming in pain, and there’s even a short moment where he talks with none other than Trevor Slattery, played once again by Sir Ben Kingsley.
Slattery first appeared in Iron Man 3 and returned in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. Now he’s back, and it looks like he’ll play a part in Simon’s chaotic journey.

It’s so very hard to consider any movie perfect. Looking at rankings like IMDb, Rotten Tomatoes, or other cinema scores, you will be hard pressed to find a consistent 10/10 or perfect score on something. Go deeper and it’s damn near impossible to unite a fanbase into something or find something genre specific to align in the right ways for it to become a universal classic. The Shawshank Redemption, Goodfellas, The Lion King, and a handful of others can be used as examples, but what about horror? Horror is nearly as divisive as the Marvel or Star Wars fan base with even more options to choose from when you break down the various subgenres. For me, anthology films will always hold a special spot, and I have always sought them out. The problem with many of them is that they range from undercooked to flawed but fun. It would...

It couldn't have been easy to grow up as the only son of "Shane," but Alan Ladd Jr. somehow made it work. Ladd père became a movie legend as the gunfighter protagonist of George Stevens' 1953 Western classic, but his oldest son, who would come to be known quite affectionately as Laddie, did not want to follow in the old man's footsteps. He began his showbiz career as an agent for Creative Management Associates before moving into film production in the United Kingdom (where he helped Gary Sherman make the gruesome horror classic "Raw Meat").
Laddie's sharp creative/commercial sensibilities caught the eye of 20th Century Fox, which brought him on as its Vice President of Creative Affairs in 1973. This might've been the most consequential hire in the studio's history, as Laddie championed such pop cultural touchstones as "The Rocky Horror Picture Show," "Young Frankenstein" and "Phantom of the Paradise." The winners of the Best Supporting Actress Oscar belong to an exclusive club. But Apollo 13 star Kathleen Quinlan can boast to membership in an equally select society — call it the Whoopi Goldberg Wink Squad.
Quinlan was inaugurated into that group three decades ago at the 68th Academy Awards, held on March 25, 1996. The then-41-year-old actress walked the red carpet outside the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion as a Supporting Actress nominee for her role as Marilyn Lovett in Ron Howard’s space acclaimed space drama. Inside, meanwhile, Goldberg was preparing for her second appearance Oscar host, replacing the previous year’s controversial emcee, David Letterman.
And the comedian couldn’t resist tweaking the late night host right out of the gate. “So… didja miss me?” Goldberg asked the crowd with a smile. She then proceeded to launch into her stage patter, which riffed on the proliferation of colorful ribbons at that year’s ceremony,...

Liam Neeson will always be known for his roles in classic action movies like The Grey, The A-Team, and Taken. However, 10 years ago, he starred in an action vehicle that has become a surprising hit on a new free streaming service. Neeson stars alongside Ed Harris (Top Gun: Maverick) and Vincent D’Onofrio (Daredevil: Born Again) in Run All Night, the crime thriller following Jimmy Colon (Neeson), a hitman who has one night to figure out where his loyalties lie. Run All Night is currently streaming for free on Tubi, and it’s one of the most popular movies on the platform, sitting at #10 at the time of writing. The film earned “rotten” scores of 59% from critics and 56% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes, and it also grossed only $71 million at the box office against a $50 million budget, falling well short of its break-even point.

First things first: yes, the ring thing really happened.
Early on in Apollo 13 — Ron Howard’s 1995 dramatization of the famous 1970 NASA space odyssey that very nearly became a space tragedy — there’s a scene that plays more like fiction than fact. On the morning of the launch that rockets Jim Lovell (played by Tom Hanks) into the wild blue yonder, the celebrated astronaut’s wife, Marilyn (Kathleen Quinlan), steps into a motel shower… and watches in horror as her wedding ring is washed down the drain mid-rinse.
It’s the culmination of a series of premonitions she’s had warning her that Jim’s mission isn’t going to go smoothly. And, sure enough, a few days into Apollo 13’s moon-bound trajectory Lovell radios Houston to alert them to a very serious problem aboard the unluckily numbered spacecraft.

Stephen King’s “The Stand” is getting a new adaptation, with Paramount securing Doug Liman to direct the new adaptation of the author’s apocalyptic 1978 tome.
Liman will also produce along with Tyler Thompson of Cross Creek Pictures, with the two previously collaborating on “American Made,” the based-on-a-true-story drama starring Tom Cruise.
Largely thought to be one of King’s greatest accomplishments, “The Stand” takes place in the aftermath of a pandemic caused by a weaponized virus (dubbed Captain Trips), where the survivors are either swayed by the forces of good or those of evil, personified by Randall Flagg, who would go on to become a recurring figure in some of King’s other work, most notably the “Dark Tower” series of novels.
In 1990 King updated and expanded the novel, moving the events from 1980 to 1990 and including more than 400 pages that were cut from the initial printing. The resulting book,...

The survivors are drawn to two opposing communities, one led by the kind, prophetic Mother Abagail and the other by the sinister, demonic Randall Flagg. This all leads to a final battle between good and evil. The search is now on for a writer to tackle the project. In addition to directing, Liman will also produce alongside Tyler Thompson of Cross Creek Pictures.
At 1,152 pages, The Stand is King’s longest book. While you might think that Paramount will be viewing this as something that will span multiple films, sources tell THR that “Liman and the studio have a particular take and that the feature would be a one-off, not a multi-movie endeavor.

The Abyss may be a classic James Cameron film, but it's also noted for some bad behavior behind the scenes. Now, one controversial incident has gotten the film into hot water.
The movie has been pulled from Disney+ in the UK because of animal rights concerns. In one scene, a rat is placed in a vat of fluorocarbon liquid and is in distress - and that was a real rat in real distress; no special effects were used. The scene horrified animal rights charities, and Britain's Rspca - the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals - campaigned to have the scene removed from all British showings of the film.
They succeeded. The scene has never been available on VHS, DVD and Blu-ray copies of The Abyss in the UK, and it was also cut whenever the movie aired on TV. But a legal loophole ensured it could...

Father’s Day is a time for barbecues, awkward phone calls, and remembering your childhood memories. If you’re lucky enough, you’ll maybe even have a late-night rewatch of Ted Lasso. While most of us know Jason Sudeikis as the charming coach, he’s quietly flexed his dramatic chops before his Apple TV+ breakout show.
This Sudeikis gem is hidden deep within Netflix’s library, and tackles fatherhood, regret, and redemption in a way Ted Lasso hasn’t touched yet. So, allow us to convince you to watch this beautiful movie with your father, but we do warn you that it might feel heavy at times.

With And Just Like That… returning to our screens via HBO Max, it feels right that Kim Cattrall should also get back in on the Sex and The City action.
The revival series is currently airing with stars Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis all reprising the roles that catapulted the group to superstardom in the late ’90s and early ’00s.
Bar a small cameo in the season two finale, Cattrall has not reteamed with Carrie, Miranda and Charlotte on the streets of New York in the new show and confirmed she won’t be appearing in the third installment. Reports of a long-running feud between Parker and Cattrall have dominated Sex and The City headlines for years following the 2008 and 2010 movies.
However, in a new interview with U.K. outlet The Times, Cattrall is revealing a few tidbits about her connection to the iconic character of sex-positive publicist Samantha Jones.

Bosch: Legacy may have wrapped up its final season on Prime Video earlier this year, but one of Titus Welliver’s older films with Ben Affleck has returned to streaming charts 15 years later. The duo stars alongside Jeremy Renner and Rebecca Hall in The Town, the classic crime thriller following Doug McRay (Affleck), a thief who falls for a hostage during one of his most daring heists. The Town is streaming on Netflix, and the film has surged into the streamer’s top 10, sitting at #7 at the time of writing. Released in 2010, The Town grossed $154 million at the global box office against a modest $37 million budget, and it earned a 92% score from critics on Rotten Tomatoes as well as an 85% on the audience-driven Popcornmeter.
