The success of The Fantastic Four: First Steps in theaters has had a ripple effect across streaming, with several similar movies seeing an increase in viewership on Disney+. This includes the one Pixar movie that everybody jokingly refers to as the best Fantastic Four movie ever made: The Incredibles.
According to FlixPatrol, as of Aug. 8, The Incredibles is back on Disney+'s Top 10 chart in several countries, including the United States, where it is ranked No. 4 on that list, coming in under just Mickey Mouse Clubhouse+ (No. 3), Rio (No. 2), and Freaky Friday (No. 1). The 2004 Pixar movie is just the latest title about a superpowered family to find success on Disney+ thanks to The Fantastic Four: First Steps. In the past week, both 2005's Fantastic Four and 2007's Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer have popped up on the Disney+ Top 10, with the latter still ranked No. 8 on the worldwide chart.

As Starfleet Academy continues to film, creator Alex Kurtzman is assuring fans that this show has got its semesters all planned out!
For a franchise meant to look to the future, Star Trek has spent a lot of time in the past. Picard brought back the Next Generation crew while the first seasons of Discovery suffered from trying to be a prequel to The Original Series. Strange New Worlds ran with that, continuing to build toward Tos.
However, Discovery boosted itself with the third season, where the ship was sent into the 32nd century after a cosmic disaster ravaged the warp drive and left the Federation in tatters. The crew worked to solve the problem with the Federation rebuilding itself. This will set up Starfleet Academy, which will follow the first new Academy class in a century.

By the time Evan Rachel Wood took on the role of Tracy in Thirteen, she was already a seasoned actor. Wood had spent years working in regular television roles and family films. But the gritty and honest portrayal of teenage rebellion in this script was unlike anything she had ever encountered. The film, which follows a 13‑year‑old navigating peer pressure, substance abuse, and family struggles, has since developed a cult following. Now, it is finding a new audience on streaming platforms, proving its raw story is just as powerful today as it was in 2003.
When we spoke to Evan Rachel Wood during interviews for the movie, she admitted she had reservations about the role. The script felt uncomfortably close to home. She needed reassurance that the sensitive subject matter would be handled with care. Her fears eased after meeting with director and co‑writer Catherine Hardwicke.

The latest show in the franchise, Star Trek: Starfleet Academy, has a key connection to the show Discovery. The show, which had its first teaser dropped at Sdcc last weekend, will follow a new batch of Starfleet members as they train and begin their duties aboard the USS Athena. Several details regarding the setting have come out since.
Co-showrunner Alex Kurtzman mentioned that the aftermath of Discovery is an intrinsic part of the series, especially The Burn, a cataclysmic event in the 32nd Century when the universe’s dilithium went inert, severely affecting the starships’ warp drive capabilities.
Kurtzman said that it was important to explore that time in the Star Trek universe (LA Times).
My thinking was, if we set Starfleet Academy in the halcyon days of the Federation, where everything was fine, it’s not going to speak to what kids are going through right now.

Turning Star Trek: Strange New World's crew into puppets is no easy feat.
During San Diego Comic-Con, Strange New World showrunners Akiva Goldsman and Henry Alonso Myers talked to Entertainment Weekly about its boldest genre mashup yet and how long the process of puppet-ifying their show took.
According to Myers, "I wanna say there was easily more than six months of work on it," later going in-depth on the logistics of making this work for a large, live-action Star Trek set. "In production, we'd have long conversations with our director in mind, specifically about how to handle puppets.... We had to have a lot of conversations about making puppets. We had to have a lot of conversations about how to handle our crew, because we also have to have a whole crew of puppeteers. In 2003, Catherine Hardwicke’s (Twilight) directorial debut, Thirteen, premiered at the Sundance Film Festival. The film starred Evan Rachel Wood as Tracy, a 13-year-old in Southern California who befriends the popular Evie (Nikki Reed) and begins dabbling in drugs, alcohol, and crime.
Co-written by Hardwicke and then-14-year-old Reed, based on the teen’s real-life experiences, the script was crafted in only six days. When the film was released, it was every parent’s nightmare and generated a ton of controversy because of the situations depicted in the film. However, it was well received by critics and garnered award nominations for Wood and Holly Hunter, who was nominated for an Oscar for her performance as Tracy’s mom, Melanie.

Writing with a specific actor in mind is not unheard of in Hollywood. Sometimes it’s a matter of circumstance that the right people behind the show want to make sure they have a key player among their cast. When it came to the upcoming Paramount+ Star Trek spin-off, Star Trek: Starfleet Academy, showrunner Alex Kurtzman stressed that it was Holly Hunter that the crew wanted to make sure they had on the call sheet. Hunter plays Nahla Ake, a Starfleet Captain and the Chancellor of Starfleet Academy. Kurtzman told Collider’s Steve Weintraub at San Diego Comic Con that Hunter was “the voice in our heads” during the show’s development. He explains:
"So we wrote this part for Holly Hunter before we knew Holly Hunter. And as we were developing it, because I am, like, an obsessive fan of all of her films. I’ve never told you this,...

Seeing as how the 1980s gave us four Halloween movies, five Elm Streets and no less than eight Friday the 13ths, it’s pretty easy to see why the decade is considered the golden age of slasher flicks. Throw in all the lesser known psycho-killer/dead teenager flicks from the era that have since gone on to become bona fide cult classics – the Sleepaway Camp trilogy, Maniac, Pieces, etc. – and it’s pretty much indisputable that the Reagan years were indeed the glory days of cinematic mass murder.
Even in a decade glutted with degenerate cinema classics like My Bloody Valentine and Silent Night, Deadly Night, there nonetheless remain several unsung, unheralded slasher movies from the 1980s that definitely deserve more retroactive respect and reverence. Sure, none of the following flicks may be on par with subgenre heavy hitters like Black Christmas or Twitch of the Death Nerve, but they...

As first reported by Collider, Celine Song has been tapped to write the script for a sequel to My Best Friend’s Wedding, the iconic romantic comedy starring Julia Roberts and Dermot Mulroney.
The 1997 movie followed Julianne Potter (Roberts), a food critic who realizes she’s in love with her longtime best friend Michael after learning that he’s getting married. She sets out to sabotage the wedding, but as you might expect, her plans don’t quite go as planned. The film also starred Cameron Diaz and Rupert Everett. It was a big success, grossing nearly $300 million worldwide, and is regarded as one of the best rom-coms of the ’90s.
Just days ago, Mulroney teased that “there is talk of a sequel” while promoting his new Netflix series The Hunting Wives. “I know nothing about it,” he said. “Last I heard, quote, lawyers were talking, unquote.“

Collider's Steve Weintraub spoke with the show's cast and crew about the show's long-term academic prospects at San Diego Comic Con this weekend. Paramount's Star Trek head honcho, Alex Kurtzman, outlined the length of a Starfleet Academy undergraduate degree:

Star Trek's newest series, Starfleet Academy, will open its doors early next year. But before that happens, Collider's Steve Weintraub was on the scene at San Diego Comic Con to talk to the show's cast and crew. They revealed some secrets about the show, including the expansive set for the USS Athena, the much-talked-about ship whose true nature has finally been revealed. The set isn't just enormous on-screen: it's the biggest TV set ever. Says Karim Diané, who plays Klingon medical cadet Jay-Den Kraag:
"It’s the biggest set in North America. Like period. So it’s huge. The first time we walked in, I mean, it’s a real school. It’s like multiple levels we filmed on, like not just the ground. We walked up and filmed everywhere."
Showrunner Alex Kurtzman explained the true nature of the ship, which is, in fact, the titular Starfleet Academy:...

At long last, Paramount+ offered a first look at season one of “Star Trek: Starfleet Academy” on Saturday at San Diego Comic Con (Sdcc).
“You’re all the first academy class to return to our camps in San Francisco — after more than 120 years,” Holly Hunter as the chancellor of Starfleet Academy tells the group of new students gathered at the James T. Kirk Pavilion.
“Some of you are here for your families,” she continues, “some for yourselves. Together, you are the best and the brightest from across the galaxy.”
The students will be asked “to give more of yourselves than you know you have,” Hunter adds, “to dream without limitations. Whatever challenges came before today led you to this moment. You’re here now, you weave together the future.”

The teaser trailer for Star Trek: Starfleet Academy is here and it’s a different vibe than traditional Trek.
The first live-action Star Trek project to focus on characters in their early 20s, Starfleet Academy features a largely Gen Z cast playing a class of cadets in San Francisco training for their debut space adventure. The show also stars Holly Hunter, who plays the Academy’s chancellor, and Paul Giamatti, who plays a recurring alien villain in the show.
The trailer (below) which debuted at San Diego Comic-Con on Saturday is narrated by Hunter’s character giving a reception speech to the class, saying they will learn “the skills that shaped our greatest officers.” But what’s more interesting about the footage — and sure to be debated by longtime (read: old) Star Trek fans — are the visuals of the young cast as they bond, flirt, dance and look longingly at the stars.

The future of “Star Trek” is here and it truly is boldly going to some new and undiscovered places. (Check out our ranking of every “Star Trek” live-action show). The message from Paramount+’s presentation for the franchise July 26 at San Diego Comic-Con’s Hall H isn’t boundary- and format-pushing alone: It’s clear that they want to package new things with some heavy doses of the familiar — major stars, beloved returning franchise vets, and some cutesy gimmicks.
Take a look at the teaser for “Star Trek: Starfleet Academy.”
There are a ton of new faces there for the 32nd Century-set show, as much of the cast is teenage and 20-something newcomers. And it’s set in a time period, post-“Star Trek: Discovery” that allows for all-new storytelling completely unrestrained by preexisting canon. But that’s also a lot of unfamiliar stuff, and audiences can need a little...

Uma Thurman recalled doing her own stunts as The Old Guard 2's main villain. The actor didn't have time to physically prepare for the role, but she did have Kill Bill's gruelling stunt training.
Uma Thurman channeled Kill Bill's The Bride while filming The Old Guard 2, where she played an overpowered, immortal villain. The actor admitted she was ill-prepared for the part, but she did have the required experience. Though now widely recognized as a seminal film with indelible cultural influence — sparking references, parodies and homages aplenty since its 1994 release — Pulp Fiction, created on a small seven-figure budget, wasn’t something star Uma Thurman initially realized would have such a watershed impact.
