This summer, the new horror movie Witchboard will be hitting theaters. The film is a remake of Kevin S. Tenney's movie of the same name released in 1986, and it has some notable names from the horror genre on board.

Set to be released on Aug. 15, Witchboard is directed by Chuck Russell. Jamie Campbell Bower of Stranger Things fame is also a part of the cast. The film is rated R for "strong bloody violence, gore, language, drug content, some sexual content, and brief nudity." A sneak peek at the film can be seen by watching the new trailer below.

John Sykes, a hard-rock guitarist and singer who played with Thin Lizzy before joining Whitesnake for its smash 1987 album and later forming Blue Murder, has died of cancer. He was 65.

The news was confirmed on Sykes’ Facebook page, but other details including a date of death were not provided.

“He will be remembered by many as a man with exceptional musical talent, but for those who didn’t know him personally, he was a thoughtful, kind and charismatic man whose presence lit up the room.” the statement reads in part. “He certainly marched to the beat of his own drum and always pulled for the underdog.”

Born on July 29, 1959, in Reading, England, Sykes began playing guitar as a teenager, inspired by the legion of late-’60s British axmen. He played with metal band Tygers of Pan Tang in the early 1980s before joining Phil Lynott in Thin Lizzy for 12th album.

Smash Mouth singer Steve Harwell, who was once a cast member of the VH1 reality series The Surreal Life, died Monday. He was just 56.

According to his manager who confirmed the news to TMZ, Harwell’s cause of death was liver failure caused by years of alcohol abuse. He died at his home in Boise, Idaho surrounded by friends and family.

Steve Harwell, who co-founded the band Smash Mouth in 1994, has died at the age of 56, band manager Robert Hayes confirmed. The musician, best known for hits like “All Star” and “I’m a Believer,” died at his home in Boise, Idaho, “surrounded by family and friends.”

Harwell had been in hospice care following medical complications. The cause of death was liver failure, Hayes told Rolling Stone.

Bernie Marsden, the British guitarist who played with David Coverdale’s Whitesnake in the late ’70s and early ’80s and co-wrote hits including “Here I Go Again” and “Fool for Your Loving” and had a long solo career, died Thursday. He was 72.

Coverdale shared the news in a social media post, calling his former bandmate “A genuinely funny, gifted man, whom I was honored to know and share a stage with.” He didn’t share any other details.

Director Chuck Russell wanted to remake Witchboard because he felt he could bring a fresh sensibility to the film and explore the interesting legacy of the Wiccan world. The new version of Witchboard is edgier and features a star-studded cast, including Jamie Campbell Bower, Madison Iseman, Aaron Dominguez, Antonia Desplat, and Charlie Tahan. Russell emphasizes that a good scare in horror movies is all about tension, timing, and payoff, similar to getting a good laugh in a comedy. He hopes to deliver a story, characters, and scares that will excite fans of the original film.

A remake of the 1986 horror classic Witchboard follows engaged couple Emily and Christian. A24 has secured the rights to the book I Want My MTV: The Uncensored Story of the Music Video Revolution, and they’ve set James Ponsoldt (The Spectacular Now, The End of the Tour) as the director.

The book was written by Rob Tannenbaum and Craig Marks, and it was published in 2011. It takes the readers through a the birth and rise of the popular cable channel. I use to watch MTV all of the time in the early '90s. It was the golden age of MTV. I thought the music videos they made were so cool, and of course, the girls in the music videos were sexy as hell. MTV has since changed, and now I just see it as a joke. I haven’t watched MTV in years.

The story in the book is, for the most part, told through interviews and anecdotes from MTV’s...

The word "party," by it's very nature, implies that you're gonna have a good time. Just think about how we use that word. "Lets partttttyyyyy!!!" In fact, "party" is more of a term than it is a word. How many times have we heard someone say, "We're gonna party"? Now, if you take that term and pair it with a movie, you have something special indeed.

If you can take a movie and convey the frenzied energy of a party, you have that rare mix of comedy gold and spontaneity that can't be contained. In fact, the right party movie, whether it takes place all in one night or over a few days, can be watched multiple times. In fact, the best of these movies elicit a certain warmth that not even the most milquetoast of offerings can dredge up.

At their best, party movies are a true window into our souls.

Its not a surprise to learn that Ms. Kitaen takes the win and will move onto the semifinal round. We wish we could see more of Ms. Wrights fabulous Fanny (that didnt sound quite right) but she will take a bow and leave the ring for good. As for Kitaens Linda well see you in the near future. There are roughly 900,000 tribute pieces online this week about the 1985 John Hughes film "The Breakfast Club," and I understand the motivation. If you were the right age when the film was released (I was 15 at the time), that movie felt like a lightning bolt right to the face. Hughes treated teenagers like they were actual people with complex emotional lives worthy of respect, and while that would seem to be a logical approach to writing about any character, it certainly didn't feel average when he did it. He wrote about that secret world of teenagers with what felt like laser accuracy, and he basically created an entire industry of movies that tried to tap into that same audience. It's been 28 years since Whitesnake released their famous single "Here I Go Again" -- and, last night, the song's music video vixen made a very rare public appearance. Tawny Kitaen, the very same woman who did cartwheels on the hood of a classic car in the 1987 video, hit the red carpet in Los Angeles. Still sporting her signature red hair, the former model and ex-wife of Whitesnake frontman David Cloverdale (left) looked great at the premiere of Amazon's new series "Bosch." As a teen just getting into the world of low-budget horror movies, and straight to VHS fare, there were a handful of directors whose work I would buy and/or rent without fail and without any prior knowledge (besides the spiel on the back of the box) of what i was getting into. One of those directors was Fred Olen Ray, the genius behind such films as Scalps, Star Slammer, Hollywood Chainsaw Hookers, Evil Toons, Cyclone and the awesome Scream Queen Hot Tub Party. However in the intervening years it’s safe to say I haven’t had the urge to watch as many of his flicks as I did in the 80s/90s heyday...

Tom Hanks' raucous 1984 comedy classic Bachelor Party is being rebooted as a TV anthology series for ABC.

The half hour sitcom has already earned a big put pilot commitment from the network and 20th Century Fox TV. Fox also has a TV show remake of Tom Hanks' 1988 comedy Big in development, as the studio was behind both films. Bachelor Party is being produced by the Small Dog Picture Co., run by feature film director Jason Winer, and Walcott Co., run by director Max Winkler and New Girl star Jake Johnson.

The Bachelor Party anthology series was co-created by New Girl writer-producers J.J. Philbin and Josh Malmuth, and will examine the sanctity of marriage through the lens of three couples: One about to get married, one divorced, and a third just starting to fall in love. They will experience their relationships day by day as they continue to grow and change.

The new feature, wherein a group of friends try to summon the spirit of Tawny Kitaen . wait, Tawny Kitaen is still alive? Wow. Okay. The new feature, wherein a group of friends try to summon the spirit of a recently deceased pal -- only to find something much darker and far more menacing -- is due out just in time for Halloween. You can get a sneak peek at what.s in store in this new trailer, posted on the Movies Coming Soon YouTube channel. All in all, Ouija looks like a pretty predictable horror affair. For a film about contacting the souls of the dearly departed beyond the veil, the whole thing feels, well, kind of soulless in this clip. Much to my dismay, I had to miss Scream Facotyr’s second Summer of Fear Drive-in presentation of Kevin Tenney’s Night of the Demons. I was able to catch the screening of John Carpenter’s Assault on Precinct 13, though, and it was a lot of fun to watch the film with a bunch of like-minded individuals, having a good time on twitter, and seeing some new interviews with the man himself for the first time. I’m assuming the Night of the Demons screening was equally as awesome. This Friday night, Scream Factory presents their final Summer of Fear Drive-in screening of Kevin Tenney’s Witchboard, with all-new interview footage conducted for the screening with both Kevin Tenney himself, and Tawny Kataen.
