Michael Madsen, the iconic Hollywood star who died July 3, 2025, ending a career filled with memorable action and crime thrillers like ‘Reservoir Dogs’ and ‘Kill Bill,’ may have saved his most surprising and revealing role for one of his last. In ‘Mr. Wonderful,’ an independent feature film shot last year, he played Brian Fenton, a college professor desperately trying to prop up a failing career, steer a wayward son away from drugs and personal ruin, and come to grips with his own mysterious father’s descent into dementia.
Watching Madsen on set in ‘Mr. Wonderful,’ writer/producer Daniel Blake Smith suggested that Madsen was tapping into his own troubled life—laced with alcoholism, chaotic marriages, and the loss of his 26-year-old son to suicide in 2022. “His own sister, actress Virginia Madsen,” Smith observed, “called him ’thunder and velvet… mischief wrapped in tenderness.’ Well, nowhere was that emotional complexity more vividly on...

The first trailer for Mr. Wonderful is here, featuring the late actor Michael Madsen in one of his final leading roles. The Reservoir Dogs and Kill Bill star died on July 3, 2025, at the age of 67, sending Hollywood into mourning. The last time fans saw him on-screen prior to his passing was in the Civil War-set thriller Resurrection Road, though he had numerous other projects in development at the time of his death. One of those was the indie drama Mr. Wonderful, which sees Madsen deliver a profoundly nuanced and emotional performance in a rarely seen role.
Madsen takes the lead role in Mr. Wonderful, portraying a jaded college professor by the name of Brian Fenton. The actor ditches his signature on-screen tough guy persona, cemented by his role as Mr. Blonde in Quentin Tarantino's Reservoir Dogs, for a much more raw and vulnerable performance. The trailer sees his character...

The wildly diverse worlds of Star Trek and Quentin Tarantino’s arguably best film, Pulp Fiction, overlapped during the run of Star Trek: Picard. That’s when Amanda Plummer, who played Honey Bunny in Pulp Fiction, portrayed Picard’s season 3’s main antagonist, Vadic. Plummer, the daughter of Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country co-star Christopher Plummer, appeared in six episodes as the changeling captain of the Shrike.
But a look at a casting memo written by Tarantino in advance of production on Pulp Fiction reveals that several future and past Star Trek figures were at least considered for roles in the writer-director’s film. Tim Roth ultimately starred as Pumpkin, but among those on Tarantino’s list of potential actors for the role was Christian Slater. 2017's "Get Out" is one of the great feature film debuts in modern history, if not all of filmdom. Jordan Peele, best known up to that time as a comedic writer and performer, shocked the world with a socially-minded horror-thriller about a Black man named Chris (Daniel Kaluuya) who visits the parents of his white girlfriend Rose (Allison Williams) and discovers a terrifying conspiracy. It was a colossal box office hit, won an Oscar, and was recently named the eighth-best film of the 21st century by the New York Times.
Whether you've recently experienced "Get Out" for the first time or have revisited the sunken place on multiple occasions, we've got a collection of similar films to scratch that particular itch. Some are explicit comments on the ills of our world, others are darkly comedic horrors willing to dive into the grotesque, and all will take you on a wild ride.

Michael Madsen, Hollywood’s grizzled outlaw and Tarantino’s favorite tortured soul, was found dead at his Malibu home Thursday morning. He was 67. The official cause? Cardiac arrest.
Just hours after the Reservoir Dogs and Kill Bill star’s death, his fractured family — estranged wife DeAnna, sons, grief, and all — descended on the property like a real-life scene from one of his films.
A Dysfunctional Family Reunion
DeAnna Madsen, the estranged wife Michael once accused of driving their son Hudson to suicide, arrived looking dazed and defeated. Max, their 31-year-old son, was spotted consoling her in the driveway — a driveway that, until recently, she’d been legally fighting over. Christian, Madsen’s eldest son from his first marriage, stood silently nearby, shades shielding his grief. The youngest, 19-year-old Luke — cowboy hat and all — emerged from the garage just as the coroner backed into it, a stark image of a teenager...

Michael Madsen is dead at the age of 67 from cardiac arrest, IndieWire has confirmed. He was found unresponsive July 3 in his Malibu home. The prolific character actor was best known for his decades-spanning collaborations with Quentin Tarantino, appearing in the director’s “Reservoir Dogs,” “Kill Bill,” and “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.”
One of the finest character actors of the past 40 years, Madsen instantly grabbed viewers’ attention in any scene he was in, with his trademark husky drawl. He was a scene-stealer without ever chewing the scenery, always embodying various degrees of laconic. Born in Chicago in 1957, and the brother of fellow screen star Virginia Madsen, he nonetheless embodied traits filmgoers would identify more with that of a cowboy, and he often wore a 10-gallon hat, bolo tie, and sunglasses when appearing on the red carpet.

Michael Madsen, one of the greatest tough-guy actors of his generation and a favorite collaborator of director Quentin Tarantino, has passed away. According to THR, the 67-year-old actor was found unresponsive at his Malibu home following a 911 call. Cardiac arrest is suspected.
Madsen was a cinematic legend, especially for his work with Tarantino. He was perhaps the director’s most beloved recurring actor, appearing in Reservoir Dogs, Kill Bill, The Hateful Eight, and most recently in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. Even before his breakout role in Reservoir Dogs, Madsen had made a name for himself as a reliable character actor, with early appearances in WarGames (including a memorable opening scene opposite the late John Spencer), The Natural, and Thelma & Louise, in which he played Susan Sarandon’s quiet, soft-spoken love interest.

1997 marked the establishment of Matt Damon as a household name. His greatest accomplishment of that year, of course, is the beloved Good Will Hunting, which he co-wrote with Ben Affleck and co-starred in with Affleck and Robin Williams, catapulting him to immediate success. However, less than a month prior, he got the chance to be the leading man in The Rainmaker, an adaptation of John Grisham's 1995 novel of the same name, written and directed by The Godfather mastermind Francis Ford Coppola. In the context of Damon's career, the legal drama largely exists in the shadow of the titanic roles that came after, from The Departed to Ocean's Eleven, The Martian, and beyond. Starting on July 1, though, viewers will have a chance to revisit the acclaimed film on Paramount+.
The Rainmaker pairs Damon up with Danny DeVito in one of the It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia star's rare dramatic roles.

Matt Damon is one of the most sought-after stars currently working in Hollywood. The actor was last seen in The Instigators and will be leading Christopher Nolan’s ensemble in The Odyssey. He got his breakthrough with Good Will Hunting, for which he co-wrote the screenplay with Ben Affleck and won the Oscar for Best Original Screenplay.
Damon was also nominated for Best Actor, along with Robin Williams, who won the Award for Best Supporting Actor. However, in the same year, Damon starred in Francis Ford Coppola’s The Rainmaker, which has since its release been considered an underrated masterpiece. The legal drama was based on a novel by popular legal thriller writer John Grisham.

Bernard Rose's 1992 horror classic "Candyman," an American reimagining of Clive Barker's short story "The Forbidden," was about an ambitious graduate student named Helen (Virginia Madsen) who trekked into Chicago's infamous building project at Cabrini Green to investigate an urban legend that had persisted there. It seems that the denizens believed in a ghostly killer called Candyman who would appear behind you if you said his name five times into a mirror. Helen finds, quite shockingly, that the Candyman (Tony Todd) is very real. He is the vengeful spirit of a murdered Black man, a son of a slave, killed by a white mob after the end of the Civil War. His body was burned on the site of the Cabrini Green projects, and he now haunts those who summon him.
"Candyman" is utterly terrifying, and the late Tony Todd is excellent in the role. He is menacing and sympathetic in turns.

"Spider-Man" is one of the most popular superheroes of all time, and one that is quite versatile when it comes to adaptations. We've had several "Spider-Man" shows and movies, from live-action to animation and video games, each with a unique take, visual style, and tone. Tom Holland's boyish Peter Parker is vastly different from Jake Johnson's jaded Peter B. Parker and Tobey Maguire's tragic, mopey version of the character (which audiences voted as the single best live-action Peter Parker).
Even in animation, we've seen many different interpretations from voice actors across games, TV, and film, portraying Peter as an older man, a newcomer just getting started with his powers, or an established hero. Though there have been many animated "Spider-Man" TV shows, each with their own fans and defenders, one show is usually left out of the conversation — MTV's "Spider-Man: The New Animated Series."
This was a wild experiment.

Classic Hollywood star Ingrid Bergman once said, "A kiss is a lovely trick designed by nature to stop speech when words become superfluous." The Swedish actress knows a thing or two about the power of a kiss, as she was one half of one of the most iconic kisses in cinematic history when she and Humphrey Bogart starred in "Casablanca." However, as powerful as a kiss can be, sometimes the act of kissing may be a bridge too far for an actor behind a given character.
Regardless of what a script says a character is meant to do, sometimes there are certain things that an actor will refuse to do. For whatever reason, they may decide that they don't want to do their own stunts or have any nude scenes, as tasteful as they might. And there have been plenty of instances where stars have chosen not to participate in kissing scenes as well.

Frank Herbert's 1965 "Dune" novel has been a colossal inspiration since its release, encouraging countless other authors and filmmakers. However, for years, a successful movie adaptation proved very hard to get it right. Over five decades later, we have Denis Villeneuve's "Dune: Part One" and "Dune: Part Two," satisfying critics, fans, and the Academy.
While we wait for "Dune: Part Three," what's a fan to do? Well, the influences of "Dune" go far and wide, as do the cinematic influences of director Villeneuve. From the movies that were inspired by Herbert's original novel, to other films that capture something of the spirit or style of the story, and even previous attempts at tackling the material, there's a lot of cinema out there to please fans of the young, selectively bred Messiah figure Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet), who joins the desert-dwelling Fremen on spice planet Arrakis and quells the feud...

Denis Villeneuve, the sci-fi visionary behind films like Blade Runner 2049, Arrival, and, of course, the modern adaptation of Frank Herbert's Dune, has paid tribute to David Lynch, his filmmaking colleague and partner in the rocky territory of Dune adaptations.
Lynch, who passed away recently, is credited with the first-ever adaptation of the literary sci-fi classic from 1965. In 1984, the surrealist master brought Duneto the big screen with mixed results. Starring Sting, Kyle MacLachlan, Brad Dourif, Max von Sydow, and Virginia Madsen, among others, the film was a box-office flop. Lynch was famously not happy with the studio's interference and spent decades distancing himself from the film. A few alternate cuts emerged over the years, but none of them matched Lynch's vision enough to make him stand behind the film.

Kyle MacLachlan has many reasons to celebrate filmmaker David Lynch, and he did just that with an emotional reflection on the passing of the 78-year-old Hollywood icon. Having been, as he said himself, plucked from obscurity to star in Lynch’s “first and last big budget movie,” Dune, and soon after taking on a career defining role as Agent Dale Cooper in Twin Peaks, MacLachlan celebrated an “enigmatic” and “intuitive” man who changed his life. He wrote:

So, you’ve created a legendary horror icon. What’s next? A sequel, obviously! But not just any sequel. A sequel that would conjure a brand new boogeyman. A sequel that wouldn’t actually feature Candyman at all. Nor the man who brought him to life: Tony Todd. What in the Halloween III am I talking about? You’ll find out in today’s video… what happened to Candyman: Farewell to the Flesh.

It always hurts when one of our legends passes away. Wes Craven, George Romero, and Tobe Hooper were 3 of the big 4 that horror enthusiasts grew up watching. While the movies that came out close to the time of their passing never matched up with their all-time classics, but it was always a shot to the gut when they were suddenly gone.
