More than the similarly mythologized Monsters, Inc., the first stop-motion feature produced in Mexico (courtesy of the Cinema Fantasma studio) recalls an old childhood favorite from the ’80s: Little Monsters. Just like that Fred Savage vehicle, writers-directors Los Hermanos Ambriz (Arturo and Roy) have created a means to connect reality to nightmare so a human might embrace the latter’s mischief, mystery, and terror that the former rejects. The 19th-century-set I Am Frankelda is thus born from a young woman’s mind (Mireya Mendoza’s Francisca Imelda) as a manifestation of her aspiration to become a horror writer––a dream met with major pushback from publishers, society, and family alike.
Her sole fan? Prince Herneval (Arturo Mercado Jr.) of the nightmare realm’s Topus Terrentus kingdom. Just like his royal parents, he was born to serve as their home’s protector by playing the strings of their castle’s spider...

Critics Dismissed It, But Netflix’s Friends From College Has Quietly Become a Fan-Favorite Sitcom (Photo Credit – Netflix)
Netflix users are still cracking up over a sitcom that critics wrote off years ago. Eight years since it first arrived, Friends From College is back in the conversation and it is not because of a comeback, but because viewers cannot stop laughing every time they return to it.
What is Netflix’s Friends From College About?
You see there are countless examples of shows that fell flat for one group and hit home for another and interestingly, that is what’s happening here. Although the show did not appeal to the critics much, many Netflix subscribers seem to be on a completely different page as they are hooked on the show’s over the top humor and absurd friendships.

If there is a movie that perfectly fits the term “beloved,” then The Princess Bride is pretty much it. The 1987 comical fantasy adventure by Rob Reiner has been a favorite movie of multiple generations and also has the honor of being a movie that both audiences and critics completely agreed is one of the best movies of all time. However, attempts to expand the franchise to the stage have been in theatrical development hell for almost 20 years, but have taken their first big step forward with the appointment of two very familiar and successful songwriters.
The Princess Bride stars Cary Elwes, Robin Wright, Mandy Patinkin, Chris Sarandon, and an array of comical talent in minor roles, and, of course, Peter Falk and Fred Savage in the wraparound story. For anyone who does not know what The Princess Bride is about, the synopsis (which does not do it justice) reads:

The will-they-or-won’t-they relationship has been around long before sitcoms were even a thing, and though it can prove fruitful comedically, it also has its many pitfalls. If the characters don’t end up together, the audience isn’t satisfied (like The Wonder Years), but if they do end up together, the show loses a big avenue for comedy (like Frasier), and often a dramatic tension. As a result, many sitcoms try to drag out the will-they-or-won’t-they dynamic for as long as possible, which can end up being so tiresome that most viewers are ready for a won’t they.
Here are four shows that tried to keep their will-they-or-won’t-they relationships going way beyond their expiration date…
1 Ross and Rachel on ‘Friends’
Ross’ feelings for Rachel (Jennifer Aniston) are introduced in the very first episode of Friends, but they don’t get together until well into Season Two.

The classic coming-of-age ABC series The Wonder Years -- following the childhood of Fred Savage’s Kevin Arnold, as told from the perspective of his older self -- ended its run in 1993. The popular TV program also starred Danica McKellar as Kevin’s crush Winnie Cooper, and the actor looks back fondly at her experience on the show.
McKellar -- marking 32 years since the show concluded -- posted to Instagram, sharing some behind-the-scenes photos from the final day on set. In one photo, McKellar is shown standing with Josh Saviano, who played Kevin’s best friend Paul Pfeiffer, and Savage. Another photo showed the trio cutting a celebratory cake with Daniel Stern (who narrated the series as an adult Kevin) and others.

First, we had to deal with Kevin (Fred Savage) and Winnie (Danica McKellar) from The Wonder Years not making it to the finish line. But then another fan favorite duo split – yep, we’re talking about Pat Sajak and Vanna White. The couple’s last appearance on the daily syndicated version of Wheel of Fortune aired in June 2024. Now, Vanna works with the show’s new host, Ryan Seacrest. The American Idol emcee coming in to host the game show after Sajak’s lengthy run was a big adjustment not only for viewers but for White, too. She compliments how Seacrest handled the transition. “Ryan did his homework,” White tells TV Insider. “He rehearsed and rehearsed and rehearsed. He also said to me, ‘I am not replacing Pat Sajak because no one could – ever. I am just stepping in.’ That made me feel good because, as Ryan said, he’s...

It’s hard to tell a story about Jesus Christ that actually follows The Bible and fits into a single movie without making it feel like a greatest hits compilation. Oh look, here’s the part where Jesus walks on water. I love that one! Remember the bit about throwing stones? That’s in here too! They’re playing all the hits!
Well, they’re playing most of the hits. “The King of Kings” is a new animated retelling of the life of Christ, filtered through Charles Dickens’ interpretation of the so-called “Greatest Story Ever Told.” It’s a CG-animated film aimed at children and it’s less than two hours long, so it speeds past most of the Christ story episodically, giving kids the gist of it without engaging with most of The Bible’s big ideas in depth.

During last week’s episode of “Pod Meets World,” “Boy Meets World” cast mates Danielle Fishel, Rider Strong and Will Friedle discussed their disappointment with how an episode from the hit ABC series failed to center the experience of Topanga Lawrence’s (Fishel) after she was hit on by her college professor and instead spotlighted Cory Matthews’ (Ben Savage) response to it.
“I felt like this thing that happened to Topanga became about: ‘How is the man in her life going to feel about it, and what’s he going to do about it?’” Fishel said, mentioning that her character’s “agency was completely taken away.”
The scene happened in Season 6, Episode 7 of “Boy Meets World”: “Everybody Loves Stuart,” during which college couple Topanga and Cory begin to fancy their new professor, Stuart (Fred Savage). But when Stuart visits Topanga in her dorm room where he makes her uncomfortable...

It's wild to think that Ryan Reynolds' red and black one-mutant-army, who is totally aware he's being watched, has gone on to become one of the most successful comic book movie franchises in history. Somehow, Deadpool, aka Wade Wilson, clawed his way out of a hole in 2006 to do it almost 20 years later, just to the tune of *Nsync.
The hero who can't die (and can't sit in a car silently) has created a legacy built on poorly handled franchises and mocking the genre that he thrives on. It's this wild perspective that's enough to make us hopeful for the future wherever he ends up in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, whether that be popping up in the "Secret Wars" or annoying the hell out of Tom Holland's Spider-Man, just the way comic book fans had always hoped.

With a legacy spanning decases, it's still inconceivable that anyone could dislike "The Princess Bride." Released in 1987, the fantasy romantic comedy was written by William Goldman (already a two-time Academy Award-winner for his work on "All the President's Men" and "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid"), directed by Rob Reiner (then best known for directing "Stand By Me" the year prior), and featured a miraculously stacked cast. Though it did just okay at the box office, the film has since become a cult classic that -- in large part through the continued success of this cast -- retroactively vindicates those who were early champions of its brilliance.
Whether senior actor or child star, veteran of the screen or relative newcomer, everyone with a role in the core ensemble of "The Princess Bride" brings something wildly unexpected to their individual role no matter how small. Incidentally, the vast majority of these...

The entertainment community recently lost an icon when the legendary Gene Hackman died at the age of 95. While there are still some unknowns surrounding his death, no one is disputing his status as a Hollywood legend. The French Connection, Superman, The Poseidon Adventure, Unforgiven, Hoosiers, The Firm, and The Royal Tenenbaums are just a few of his acclaimed works. But there's one title that's far less well-known, and it was Hackman's final film prior to retirement.
Hackman's last onscreen appearance was in 2004's Welcome to Mooseport. He played a former President of the United States who retired to a small town in Maine and befriended a local handyman, played by Ray Romano. Welcome to Mooseport was a critical and commercial failure, and it did not deserve to be Hackman's last outing. But was its underperformance the reason for his retirement? Or were there other factors that led to him leaving the spotlight?...

There are plenty of movie and TV moments that fans have quoted so many times that even people who haven't seen them know the reference. However, few have been iconic enough in popular culture to transcend their original context and reach internet immortalization as a meme.
While FX's It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia has created countless opportunities for such fame with its absurd episode premises and comically degenerate characters, one stands out above the rest in terms of digital celebrity. Charlie's (Charlie Day) Pepe Silvia conspiracy meme has been shared by millions of users across social media platforms, making it one of the most recognizable moments from the series as well as establishing it as an ever-evolving expression of humor beyond the small-screen.
As altered images and GIFs of a crazed Charlie smoking in front of a nonsensical evidence board have flooded the internet, they have since taken a life of their own.

Sitcoms are a staple of American culture and television. So many incredible stories have been told through the comedic weekly lens of life all over the world. Fans have grown accustomed to falling in love with their favorite characters and hoping for their success.
On top of those iconic characters, there are also iconic characters that have only needed one episode to stand out. Although it's rare to have guest appearances on great sitcoms that only run for a single episode, some of them have withstood the test of time.

When "New Girl" ended in 2018 after seven seasons, it undoubtedly left a hole in people's hearts. Since 2011, people tuned into Fox every week to see what mishaps and misunderstandings Jessica Day (Zooey Deschanel) and her roommates would get into. There's no shortage of incredible "New Girl" episodes to watch, and if you go back, you may find new things to appreciate. Even if you don't, it's hard to get tired of watching an episode like "Background Check" where everyone's eccentricities are dialed up to 11.
Naturally, you may be ready to fill said heart-hole with something new yet oddly similar. "New Girl" is far from the only sitcom about a group of friends figuring out what to do in life while getting into copious high jinks. Netflix is one of the biggest and most famous streaming services in the world, with many talked-about series in its expanding library. The platform has made many huge hits, including but not limited to Stranger Things, Squid Game, The Witcher, and Outer Banks. These shows massively grew in popularity and became staples of the Netflix brand. Every so often, Netflix has an ambitious new show to give subscribers.
However, there have been several instances when those anticipated series failed to meet viewers' modest-to-high expectations. Whether it was an adaptation of beloved source material, a reboot, a spin-off, or featured promising talent and ideas, these Netflix original shows failed to live up to the hype. Between Resident Evil, Cowboy Bebop, and Space Force, these Netflix series let critics and audiences down the most.

Cartoons have been entertaining viewers nearly since the dawn of television itself, resulting in a history of colorful characters that have stayed with fans for decades after watching. With the limitless possibilities available within the realm of cartoons, some of the most famous of these characters are in fact dogs. With just as many quirks and traits as their human peers, these cartoon dogs have supported or stood out among their casts and continue to be names that fans talk about and remember fondly.
While not all of these famous cartoon dogs were created with the intent of being on television, they did end up garnering significant portions of their fame and staying power through the medium. Ranging from heroic hounds to mischievous mutts, both hand-drawn and digital, television watchers have come to appreciate a variety of canine characters from a wide range of cartoons. There's a cartoon dog out there for anyone and everyone.

An episode of television that takes place almost entirely in one location is referred to as a 'bottle episode.' This trope originated as a way for shows to save money on sets, but it has become a beloved tradition. The limitation creates a unique set of challenges for writers, often resulting in innovative and memorable episodes of TV.
While bottle episodes can be found across all genres of television, they're particularly effective when it comes to sitcoms, which often find outlandish ways to confine their entire cast in one room. The format creates the perfect formula for savvy sitcoms to plant jokes they can call back to throughout the episode, while providing the opportunity to lean into atypical character pairings. Clever comedies also introduce a mounting sense of pressure that pushes their characters to the most heightened version of themselves.

Popular comedian and equine therapy slanderer John Mulaney is currently starring in the Broadway show All In, penned by his friend, former Saturday Night Live writer Simon Rich. To promote the play, which is made up of short stories all about romance, Mulaney and Rich have been giving several interviews. And a not insignificant number of them have been about scrapped SNL material.
The pair told The New York Times that when they first met at SNL, they wrote a sketch together called “Cash for Silver,” a parody of cash-for-gold commercials that made it to dress rehearsal, but was ultimately cut from the show.
Mulaney and Rich went into more detail about the sketch during their appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers, describing how it began as a traditional ad with Bill Hader asking viewers to send in their silver. But Hader’s character becomes increasingly desperate until it...

The '90s was a complicated time to be a TV teen. While the kids of "Beverly Hills, 90210" and "Melrose Place" were entrenched in constant scandalous teen drama, a gentler, more family-friendly version of teen life was drawing in audiences on ABC. "Boy Meets World" ran for an impressive 158 episodes, from 1993 to 2000, and remains a pop cultural touchstone — albeit not quite as potent of one as its cattier primetime counterparts — to this day.
Like every memorable sitcom, "Boy Meets World" knew how to pick a guest star, and several of the actors who showed up across its seven-season run went on to be pretty dang famous. In a few cases, people who were already big-name actors at the time also dropped in on the kids of John Adams High. If you watched the show at a young age, though, you'd be forgiven for not recognizing the industry veterans and...

The classic coming-of-age series The Wonder Years did not end without controversy, as the show did not conclude with a romantic ending for Kevin Arnold (Fred Savage) and Winnie Cooper (Danica McKellar). However, 31 years after the finale, McKellar herself is hinting that fans shouldn't necessarily give up on shipping Kevin and Winnie.
Originally on the air between 1988 and 1993, The Wonder Years was set during the late 1960s and early 1970s. It centered on Kevin during his formative years growing up as a high school student while Winnie was his on-again, off-again childhood girlfriend. The series finale featured a narration from the older Kevin (Daniel Stern) revealing that Kevin and Winnie wound up marrying other people when they became adults, though the two remained friends. On a recent episode of the Pod Meets World podcast (per Variety), McKellar appeared as a guest and addressed how the series finale disappointed fans who'd...

The way The Wonder Years ended may have disappointed some fans, but star Danica McKellar is giving us reason to hope for a happy ending. (Cue up the Joe Cocker!)
In the 1993 series finale of the Emmy-winning ABC series, childhood sweethearts Kevin Arnold (played by Fred Savage) and Winnie Cooper (played by McKellar) went their separate ways, with Kevin revealing in voiceover that while he and Winnie stayed in touch in the years that followed, he married someone else and had a son. “Fans still get upset about it,” McKellar admitted on this week’s episode of the Pod Meets World podcast.

Danica McKellar has good news for those who didn’t like the original ending of “The Wonder Years” — things may have changed! The actor, who played Winnie Cooper on the sitcom from 1988 to 1993, opened up about how she views the controversial ending.
In the final episode, which aired May 12, 1993, the narrator revealed that Kevin Arnold (Fred Savage) and Winnie did not end up together, despite their on-again off-again relationship throughout the series. She went to Paris to get her art degree and Kevin got married to someone else, but the pair remained friends.
“Fans still get upset about it,” McKellar said on the Nov. 25 episode of “Pod Meets World.” She explained that often in the show, “everything didn’t all work out in the end,” which was a way to be relatable to the audience.

Months after Deadpool 2 was released in 2018, 20th Century Fox announced plans for Once Upon A Deadpool. The sequel was toned down from an R rating to PG-13 and filmmaker David Leitch returned to shoot a few new scenes, including a cameo from Fred Savage.
It made money but received a mixed response from fans and critics for being what many felt was ultimately a cash grab. Now, speculation is running rampant that we might get a Marvel Studios-produced Deadpool Holiday Special.

I laugh when I hear people talk about how “The Bear” is a sure thing winner for Best Comedy Series and that it’s such a lock nothing whatsoever can derail it. Ha! Ha I say! Oh, it’s naturally the heavy favorite with its 23 nominations and has remained the overwhelming frontrunner clear through Emmy season, all right. In the Gold Derby combined Emmy odds, it’s running away with this race. The same is true of ““Shōgun” for drama after its giant haul of 25 Emmy bids. And nothing can beat “Baby Reindeer” for Best Limited Series, right? Jessica Gunning (“Baby Reindeer”) is a shoo-in for limited supporting actress, isn’t she? And no one could possibly beat Jamie Lee Curtis (“The Bear”) for comedy guest actress – could they?
But if Emmy history has taught us anything, it’s that upsets happen, even when it comes to shows and people considered locks.

Quick Links What Is Once Upon A Deadpool? Once Upon a Deadpool Stretches Its Novel Premise Thin Why Once Upon a Deadpool Would Work Better as a Short Film
As Deadpool & Wolverine continues to shatter the all-time R-rated box office record and restore faith in the MCU moving forward, it's worth noting that the playful superhero franchise has seen its share of hits and misses. Look no further than Once Upon a Deadpool, a novelty re-edit of Deadpool 2 that strips away all the R-rated material and replaces it with a PG-13 storybook fairytale molded from The Princess Bride. Although the gimmicky remake has standout moments, most agree it would have worked better as a short film.

Starting a new job brings an interesting mix of emotions—the rejuvenating promise of a fresh start mixes with the anxiety that several unknowns produce. In an industry rife with remakes, remasters, and re-releases, few companies have mastered the art of repacking leftovers for a nostalgia-driven appetite than Nintendo. With games like 1985’s Nes classic Super Mario Bros. reissued dozens of times over four decades, even the youngest players are familiar with the look, feel, and basic gameplay of Nintendo’s classics.
With a legacy like that, Nintendo doesn’t really need to try hard to sell its back catalog, and with its latest collection, Nintendo World Championships: Nes Edition, it most certainly isn’t.

Memorable and underutilized supporting characters in television history. Examples include Gail the Snail in It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia and Mona Lisa Saperstein in Parks and Recreation. Some characters had potential for further development, while others were important to main characters' storylines but disappeared.
Ive always felt some of the best sitcom characters were often the most underutilized, and there were plenty of hilarious characters Id love to have seen more of. While I agree, theres some merit to the idea that less can be more when it came to beloved sitcom characters, and by keeping their appearances brief, the excitement whenever they appeared onscreen was be maintained. However, I cannot help feeling that some characters potential has been wasted through their limited use, and these sitcoms could have benefited from giving some of these secondary characters more time in the spotlight.

Ryan Reynolds' Deadpool will be joining the MCU in the franchise's first R-rated movie, 2024's Deadpool & Wolverine. Deadpool can't always be R-rated in the MCU, as he will surely take part in some of Marvel Studios' PG-13 projects. Once Upon a Deadpool's censorship button could be brought back to the MCU, creating the opportunity for some hilarious moments in Marvel Studios' upcoming PG-13 movies.
Marvel Studios might already have the perfect solution to a major problem that comes with bringing an R-rated Deadpool into the MCU proper. Given Deadpool's violence, profanity, and mature nature in Marvel Comics, the only way to accurately depict him on-screen would be with an R-rating. This has proven itself incredibly effective in Ryan Reynolds' live-action appearances as Deadpool, as 2016's Deadpool and 2018's Deadpool 2 are two of the most popular installments of 20th Century Fox's X-Men franchise. However, this presents an issue when bringing Deadpool into the MCU.

The Wonder Years is a beloved series chronicling life in the late 1960s and early 1970s. The Wonder Years ended after six seasons with a controversial and rushed finale in 1993. The show returned for a reboot in 2021, earning critical acclaim but facing setbacks that eventually led to its cancellation.
ABC's The Wonder Years was one of the most notable sitcoms of the 1980s, well known for its theme song and generally saccharine tone. Long before Howie Mandel began judging the many unique acts across the country in America's Got Talent, he played a monster under Fred Savage's bed in the fantastical 1989 comedy Little Monsters. A gateway into the world of horror comedy, the low-budget film by director Richard Alan Greenberg has since earned the status of a cult classic thanks to the heart and creativity poured in despite its failure at the box office. Ben Savage, known for his role as Cory Matthews in Boy Meets World, pursued other acting roles after the show ended, appearing in movies and TV shows like Palo Alto, CA and Girl Meets World. Savage attended Stanford University and earned a Bachelor's degree in political science, which led to his interest in politics and a career shift in that direction. Savage reportedly stopped talking to his Boy Meets World castmates in 2020, possibly due to his focus on politics and the demands of running a political campaign. His most recent onscreen appearance was in the 2022 Lifetime movie Girl in the Shed: The Kidnapping of Abby Hernandez.

When the nominations for the 1959 Primetime Emmys were revealed, 13-year-old supporting candidate Johnny Crawford (“The Rifleman”) became the youngest male acting contender in TV academy history and then retained the title for the next six and a half decades.
