One of the reasons it works is Danny Glover, who serves as an interesting counterpoint to the brawn shown by Arnold Schwarzenegger in the original. But it turns out that he wasn’t the first choice to star in the sequel. Rather, it was none other than Steven Seagal who, in 1990, briefly left his home studio, Warner Bros, to make an action flick for 20th Century Fox.

In the end, that movie was Marked for Death, which is maybe his best non-Under Siege film, but he came close to starring in the higher-profile Predator sequel helmed by Stephen Hopkins (Patrick Swayze was also a possibility). Dave Bautista is bringing the 1980s back, one action franchise at a time. He's now set to star in two major revivals of '80s VHS action classics from Amazon MGM Studios. He's said to be close to signing on for Road House 2, the sequel to the Jake Gyllenhaal-led remake of the Patrick Swayze brawler, and will also star in Chad Stahelski's revival of the immortal Highlanderfranchise. But that unlikely event came to pass 35 years ago when the codirector of spoof comedies like Airplane! and The Naked Gun made the supernatural romance Ghost. Released on July 13, 1990, the film went on to become the year's biggest domestic box-office hit and a surprise Oscar powerhouse.

Zucker rose to Hollywood fame as a member of the Zucker-Abrahams-Zucker trio that included brother David Zucker and their friend, the late Jim Abrahams. Together, they wrote The Kentucky Fried Movie before helming seminal comedies Airplane! and Top Secret!.

Hot on the heels of their 1986 non-spoof comedy hit Ruthless People, the team locked down a two-year deal with Paramount Pictures. That deal launched with a bang thanks to The Naked Gun, based on their short-lived TV series, Police Squad.

Sources tell me that the actor has been offered a role in the Amazon MGM Studios sequel.

Reps for Bautista and the streamer did not comment.

Guy Ritchie is set to direct “Road House 2” with Jake Gyllenhaal returning as ex-UFC fighter Dalton.

“Road House,” a reboot of the 1989 classic starring Patrick Swayze, followed Dalton becoming the bouncer of a Florida Keys roadhouse where he finds himself roped into a war of outlaws and bikers and a developer determined to build a lavish resort.

Per Nexus Point News, Bautista has landed a role in the cast of the upcoming sequel to Road House in the works at Amazon MGM Studios. While this report hasn't been officially confirmed as of this time, the casting is also said to be coming with some big changes for the movie. In the previous film released in 2024, Jake Gyllenhaal led the cast as Dalton, a reimagined version of Patrick Swayze's character from the classic Road House. The new report claims that Road House 2 is going into another direction with an all-new cast of characters, and Bautista is expected to play another former fighter similar to the Dalton character.

A change in directors will also happen with Road House 2.

According to Deadline, Amazon has acquired the film rights to "Code Black," a new short story by Harrison Query, for "seven figures guaranteed," in what is believed to be one of the biggest short story deals of all time. Query will adapt his short story for the big screen. This marks the second major sale for the writer this year after A24 scooped up his crime drama series Trigger Point, which has Rebel Ridge filmmaker Jeremy Saulnier on board as a director and executive producer.

Serving as a remake of the 1989 Road House starring Patrick Swayze, Doug Liman's film hit Prime Video last spring, introducing Gyllenhaal as Dalton, an Mma-fighter-turned-bouncer who takes a job at a dive bar in the Florida Keys. The remake was a viewership hit for the streamer, leading to confirmation last May that Road House 2 is in the works. It was subsequently revealed that Guy Ritchie will direct the film.
