Predator 2 is a movie that we love here at JoBlo (watch this video above to see just how much). One of the reasons it works is Danny Glover, who serves as an interesting counterpoint to the brawn shown by Arnold Schwarzenegger in the original. But it turns out that he wasn’t the first choice to star in the sequel. Rather, it was none other than Steven Seagal who, in 1990, briefly left his home studio, Warner Bros, to make an action flick for 20th Century Fox.
In the end, that movie was Marked for Death, which is maybe his best non-Under Siege film, but he came close to starring in the higher-profile Predator sequel helmed by Stephen Hopkins (Patrick Swayze was also a possibility). In an interview with Howard Gorman of Scream Magazine, the director dug into how this almost happened. You can watch the full chat Here, but...

Released on August 10, 1984, Red Dawn became an instant Cold War classic — blending teenage rebellion, survivalist grit, and patriotic fervor. Long before The Hunger Games or Stranger Things, the late Patrick Swayze was facing down Soviet paratroopers with a hunting rifle in the snow. Nearly four decades later, this cult favorite still leaves its mark on pop culture.
The Premise: High School Meets Guerrilla Warfare
Set in the fictional town of Calumet, Colorado, Red Dawn imagines an alternate 1980s where the United States faces invasion by Soviet, Cuban, and Nicaraguan forces. With NATO gone, America stands alone.
When paratroopers descend from the sky, brothers Jed and Matt Eckert (Patrick Swayze and Charlie Sheen) escape into the mountains with their friends. There, they form a guerrilla resistance called the Wolverines. Their mission: survive, sabotage the enemy, and unleash their battle cry — “Wolverines!” — in explosive style.

Amazon’s highly anticipated sequel to one of its biggest action hits from last year has now added the perfect villain. Starring Academy Award-nominee Jake Gyllenhaal and rebooting the beloved 80s action outing Road House, it has now been confirmed that the upcoming sequel will bring a former MCU star, and real-life fighter, into the fray.
Following much rumor and speculation, Guardians of the Galaxy and Dune star Dave Bautista will face off with Gyllenhaal in Road House 2. The actor, who is also known for the likes of Blade Runner 2049, Army of the Dead, Knock at the Cabin, and more, as well as his tenure as both a WWE superstar and a stint in Mma, is reportedly “circling” the action movie follow-up, according to Deadline.

Jake Gyllenhaal could have someone new to punch in the face for Road House 2 if Dave Bautista signs on the dotted line! According to sources close to Deadline, the Dune and Glass Onion star is closing in on deals for two anticipated action films: Road House 2 and Highlander, starring Henry Cavill as the immortal warrior.
Deadline says Dave Bautista will star opposite Henry Cavill in the Chad Stahelski-directed Highlander reboot as the Kurgan, the character made famous by Clancy Brown in the original sci-fi classic starring Christopher Lambert and Sean Connery. Rumors about who would play Kurgan have circulated since the project’s announcement, and casting Bautista as the immortal powerhouse makes perfect sense.

Dave Bautista is bringing the 1980s back, one action franchise at a time. He's now set to star in two major revivals of '80s VHS action classics from Amazon MGM Studios. He's said to be close to signing on for Road House 2, the sequel to the Jake Gyllenhaal-led remake of the Patrick Swayze brawler, and will also star in Chad Stahelski's revival of the immortal Highlanderfranchise. Bautista is said to be playing the role of the villainous Kurgan in the latter.
According to reports, Bautista is circling both roles, and is expected to sign both, but has not yet officially put pen to paper. In Road House 2, he'll be joining Gyllenhaal, who starred as UFC fighter turned bouncer Dalton in the Doug Liman-directed remake in 2024. Guy Ritchie was originally set to helm the sequel, but dropped out last month; Ilya Naishuller has stepped in to steer the film.

Chris Hemsworth has pushed the limits of his physical fitness time and time again to play the Asgardian God of Thunder, but screen muscles were by no means his only goal.
In 2022, the Australian actor released six episodes of National Geographic’s Limitless with Chris Hemsworth. The endeavor was designed to challenge him physically and mentally in the name of longevity, and so Hemsworth went as far as climbing up a 100-foot rope that was dangling from a cable car in the middle of a thousand-foot canyon. Along the way, he discovered he had an increased risk of Alzheimer’s disease, and so the Disney+/Hulu-streaming series became even more meaningful to him. (Prior to the upcoming second installment, the series was retitled from Limitless with Chris Hemsworth to Limitless: Live Better Now, raising the question of whether other people not named Hemsworth will eventually join the fold in...

What are the greatest action movies of all time? It’s a controversial question, isn’t it? Any time any publication or site puts out a new list of what they consider the best action movies of all time, it can’t help but generate a ton of controversy. Nevertheless, we here at JoBlo have decided to throw our hats into the ring with a list we really hope generates some nostalgia among our viewers but also encourages them to seek out the movies on this list that they may not have seen. But first, some may wonder where superhero movies are on this list. Given how broad that genre is, we decided to stick to old-school action, so we have left them off the list, as they deserve their own ranking. There are also a few absences from the list, notably some Jackie Chan Hong Kong films (like Police Story...

After losing fan-favorite action filmmaker Guy Ritchie, Amazon MGM Studios has moved quickly to find a new director for Road House 2. Less than a month later, the studio may have found the perfect replacement director for the action sequel.
According to Deadline, Ilya Naishuller is in negotiations to take over as director of Road House 2. While Naishuller's name may not be as recognizable as Ritchie's, the filmmaker's work speaks for itself. After wowing audiences with his sci-fi action movie Hardcore Henry (2015), which was shot entirely from the first-person perspective of its lead character, Naishuller directed the 2021 action thriller Nobody, which stars Bob Odenkirk as a former assassin thrust back into his old life. His most recent directorial effort, Heads of State, premiered just three weeks ago on Prime Video. The action comedy, which is headlined by Idris Elba and John Cena, has so far been a major...

The Road House sequel recently hit a massive roadblock, but it appears Amazon has quickly found a solution to their problems. Guy Ritchie, originally slated to helm Road House 2, is no longer attached to the project. A few weeks after his departure, the studio has recruited a familiar filmmaker to handle directing duties on the action flick.
Deadline reports that Ilya Naishuller (Nobody) is in talks to direct Road House 2, the sequel to the 2024 remake starring Jake Gyllenhaal. Amazon MGM Studios is looking to bring back the Heads of State director into the fold for the highly-anticipated follow-up, which will see Gyllenhaal return in the lead role. It's unclear if anyone else from the first film will reprise their roles, but it was recently reported that Guardians of the Galaxy and Dune star Dave Bautista was slated to join the upcoming action sequel. Well, so much for the reunion tour. Road House 2is moving forward without Guy Ritchie, and they're bringing in a total Nobody to replace him. The Aladdin and The Gentlemen filmmaker has exited the Amazon MGM Studios sequel for undisclosed reasons leaving behind what would have been his third collaboration with Jake Gyllenhaal. The film was gearing up for a fall shoot, and it may still stay on schedule — because the studio has already zeroed in on a new director.
Ilya Naishuller, the Russian filmmaker behind Hardcore Henry, Nobody, and most recently Heads of State, is in negotiations to take over the sequel according to Deadline. Chris Hemsworth will always be famous for playing Thor in the MCU, but one year after he first suited up as the God of Thunder, he starred in a critically panned action remake that has returned to streaming charts years later. Hemsworth stars alongside Josh Peck (Drake & Josh) and Josh Hutcherson (The Hunger Games) in Red Dawn, the 2012 action remake following a group of teenagers who try to save their town from a group of soldiers. Red Dawn is currently streaming on HBO Max in the United States and on Prime Video globally, where it’s trending in the top 10 in countries such as the Dominican Republic. The film earned “Rotten” scores of 15% from critics and 50% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes, and it grossed only $50 million globally against a $65 million budget, making it a financial flop.

The opening of a movie can make or break it. Too fast or show too much and the rest of the movie will struggle to match it. Too slow or not have a hook in the audience and you lose them permanently before the really good stuff hits. A sequel should have an easier time with it because when released theatrically anyway, it should have a bigger budget and know what the first movie did in the first place to be successful let alone be able to mimic some of the better scenes. One of the best to ever do it is a shocking choice, but the first 16 minutes of Stephen Hopkins Predator 2 are some of the best and most draw you in 16 minutes you’ll find. While the movie wasn’t nearly the smash success that its predecessor was with box office, critical reception, or even the fanbase for a while,...

Sometimes, when a party is winding down, all you want to do is jack the music back up loud and revisit the fun from a couple of hours ago when everything seemed to be going well. Reviving pop culture moments can feel like that, as a studio or a network desperately grasps at a flashpoint moment in the hopes of eeking a few more dollars out of everyone's excitement. Back in the 1980s, Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey had all of America on the dance floor with "Dirty Dancing," and not a year later, CBS was trying to get people back onto the floor with a TV series adapted from the popular film. "Dirty Dancing" would only run for 11 episodes back in the fall of 1988 and early 1989, before the franchise lay dormant for some years, waiting for someone to remember this random little spin-off.

It features Reeves as FBI Agent Johnny Utah, who goes on an undercover mission to investigate the identities of a group of bank robbers, only to end up forming a complicated friendship with the group’s leader, Bodhi, played by Patrick Swayze.

At first glance, Jerry Zucker wouldn't seem like the kind of filmmaker to have a ghost of a chance at crafting a Best Picture-nominated film. But that unlikely event came to pass 35 years ago when the codirector of spoof comedies like Airplane! and The Naked Gun made the supernatural romance Ghost. Released on July 13, 1990, the film went on to become the year's biggest domestic box-office hit and a surprise Oscar powerhouse.
Zucker rose to Hollywood fame as a member of the Zucker-Abrahams-Zucker trio that included brother David Zucker and their friend, the late Jim Abrahams. Together, they wrote The Kentucky Fried Movie before helming seminal comedies Airplane! and Top Secret!.
Hot on the heels of their 1986 non-spoof comedy hit Ruthless People, the team locked down a two-year deal with Paramount Pictures. That deal launched with a bang thanks to The Naked Gun, based on their short-lived TV series, Police Squad.

Well, so much for the reunion tour. Guy Ritchie has officially exited Road House 2, the upcoming sequel to Amazon MGM Studios' wildly successful reboot of the 1989 cult classic. The Aladdin and The Gentlemen director was set to reteam with Jake Gyllenhaal for what would’ve been their third collaboration — but as of now, he's off the project. Production was scheduled to kick off this September, and it may still, depending on who steps in. There’s no word yet on why Ritchie stepped away, and neither the studio nor his reps have issued a statement. But it’s a noticeable shake-up for a film that was shaping up to be one of Prime Video’s biggest 2026 releases.

Amazon MGM Studios' upcoming sequel to the Road House remake has hit some major turbulence. Filmmaker Guy Ritchie had been on board to direct, but shortly ahead of production, it's been revealed that this is no longer the case.
Per Deadline, Ritchie has exited the project, no longer set to direct Road House 2. The project was slated to start filming this fall, but even with Ritchie's departure, the plan is for the movie to move forward with its planned shooting schedule. A search is now underway for a new director amid continued casting. It's unclear why Ritchie exited the project at this time, as neither the director nor the studio have provided an official comment.
The word is that Jake Gyllenhaal will reprise his role from the previous film as Dalton, an ex-UFC fighter who is a reimagined version of Patrick Swayze's character from the original Road House.

We’re hearing that Guy Ritchie is no longer directing Amazon MGM Studios’ Road House 2, the sequel to the Jake Gyllenhaal 2024 movie that pulled in over 50M viewers on Prime Video and was one of the most-watched pics on the Ott service. That number eventually rose to 80M in the pic’s first eight weeks.
No reason was given as to why Ritchie un-attached himself.
Road House 2 remains an important priority for Amazon MGM Studios, and the plan is to keep this production on track to shoot in the fall. A search for a new director is underway, and sources say casting continues.

Cinespia, presented by Amazon MGM Studios and Prime, has unveiled in August lineup for its annual summer screening series at Hollywood Forever Cemetery. In a year that has seen consistently sold-out showings of movies like “Clueless,” “Blue Velvet,” and “Showgirls,” among other classics, the Los Angeles cinematic touchstone will bring more all-time and cult favorites ranging from the ’60s to ’00s.
The fun starts with “Point Break” — which recently received a new 4K restoration last year — on August 2, the 1991 adrenaline rush stars Keanu Reeves as an FBI agent undercover and Patrick Swayze as a zen outlaw. Then, on August 9, enjoy a “Full Moon Slumber Party” at L.A.’s starriest cemetery with a double feature of two creepy flicks, starting with 1987’s “The Lost Boys” and concluding with “An American Werewolf in London,” the terrifying 1981 chiller.
On August 16, give Cinespia your best Blue Steel and join Ben Stiller on the runway in 2001’s “Zoolander.

Facing controversy, censorship threats, and criminal charges, Kneecap had plenty stacked against them heading into Glastonbury 2025 — but when they finally hit the West Holts Stage on Saturday, they turned the noise into fuel for one of the weekend’s most defiant sets.
Just months ago, the Irish rap trio’s set at Coachella sparked a firestorm: During weekend one, they led chants of “Free Palestine” and “Fuck Margaret Thatcher,” only to have their performance cut from the official livestream. The second weekend, which wasn’t broadcast, saw them double down — bringing out streamer Hasan Piker to air their protest live and displaying “Fuck Israel, free Palestine” in giant letters behind them. Several festivals subsequently dropped Kneecap from their respective bills; all the while, bandmember Mo Chara was charged with a terror offense in the UK tied to allegedly displaying a Hezbollah flag at a London concert in 2024. Credit: Amazon MGM Studios Alright, action fans, buckle up! Huge news just landed, and it’s got everyone buzzing. In an exclusive report from Nexus Point News, the one and only Dave Bautista is reportedly jumping into Amazon MGM’s Road House sequel. Now, classic Hollywood secrecy means details are super tight. But here’s what we’re hearing: Bautista’s role will likely be a former fighter, a character that could seriously echo Jake Gyllenhaal’s intense Dalton. This casting also points to a pretty fresh start for the franchise. Don’t expect too many familiar faces from the first film to return; Road House 2 is bringing in a whole new crew. Who’s steering this new chapter? None other than the brilliant Guy Ritchie, the mastermind behind flicks like Sherlock Holmes and The Gentlemen. And the script? That’s coming from Will Beall, who gave us Aquaman...

It’s been a quiet year for Jake Gyllenhaal thus far after featuring in Road House and Presumed Innocent in 2024, but one of the actor’s older projects has returned to streaming charts to celebrate its tenth anniversary. Gyllenhaal stars alongside Rachel McAdams and Forest Whitaker in Southpaw, the 2015 boxing film following Billy Hope, a champion boxer who fights to get custody of his daughter and to revive his professional career. Southpaw is streaming on Starz globally, and the film is one of the most popular movies on the streamer, sitting at #10 at the time of writing. During a 2015 interview with Variety, McAdams said she spent time with real boxing families, saying “you never feel fully safe” and mentioning how “everybody goes away” for boxers the second they lose a fight.

The 90 Day Fiancé franchise has spanned over a decade and is currently in its 11th year, celebrating its 90th wedding with 90 Day Fiancé season 11. Since its debut in 2014, 90 Day Fiancé has followed couples who have applied for or received a K-1 visa, which allows a foreign partner of a U.S. citizen to enter the United States. They have 90 days to get married, and if not, the international partner has to leave the country. Over time, the show launched many spin-offs, like Before the 90 Days, The Other Way, and Happily Ever After, featuring more couples.
Interestingly, the 90th couple to marry in the 90 Day Fiancé franchise nearly didn’t make it to the altar, thanks to the groom’s last-minute cold feet.

Road House 2 gets a new filming update, with the Jake Gyllenhaal movie now looking to get cameras rolling in the near future. Serving as a remake of the 1989 Road House starring Patrick Swayze, Doug Liman's film hit Prime Video last spring, introducing Gyllenhaal as Dalton, an Mma-fighter-turned-bouncer who takes a job at a dive bar in the Florida Keys. The remake was a viewership hit for the streamer, leading to confirmation last May that Road House 2 is in the works. It was subsequently revealed that Guy Ritchie will direct the film.
In a recent interview with Deadline, producer Charles Roven reveals that filming on Road House 2 will get underway this fall. While Roven doesn't share any story details or casting information about who may be appearing with Gyllenhaal, he says the film "should be starting in September."

To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar is a 1995 road comedy-drama film that starred Wesley Snipes, Patrick Swayze, and John Leguizamo.
The film also featured a small cameo from iconic actor Robin Williams, in a blink-and-you-miss-it moment. The premise of the movie was about three professional drag queens who win a trip to Hollywood to take part in a bigger Drag Queen of America pageant.

Jason Schwartzman was supposed to lead the star-studded cast of Richard Kelly’s Donnie Darko. He expressed interest in the script and agreed to play Donnie, but he eventually had to drop out due to scheduling conflicts. It was at this point that Gyllenhaal got his hands on the script and was mesmerised by it. He once said that he pulled over to the side of the road to finish reading it.
Donnie Darko is one of those rare sci-fi psychological thrillers that leave the viewers with more questions than answers. However, the film received poor reviews at the Sundance Film Festival, following which Kelly found it hard to find U.S. distributors for the film. While its initial theatrical gross was a measly sum, the film went on to attain more money on reissues and a cult status.

Francis Ford Coppola’s never been one to play it safe, but his demand on the set of The Outsiders took things to a whole new level. In one of the film’s most intense sequences, what was meant to be a carefully choreographed blaze quickly spiraled into a genuine hazard.
Crew members were reportedly on edge, and the set turned chaotic. The 71%-rated film still holds its iconic status, but that one moment almost burned more than just the scene.

Francis Ford Coppola literally lit The Outsiders on fire. During the intense church-burning scene, Coppola shouted for “more fire,” pushing for realism. But that craving nearly sparked disaster when the controlled flames flared up into a real hazard.

Patrick Swayze was one of a kind. He’s the only actor I can think of who was as comfortable cutting a rug on the dance floor as demolishing a room full of bad guys with his fists of fury. When he passed away from pancreatic cancer in 2009, we lost an icon who was never really recognized as the legend he is in his time. In the years since many Patrick Swayze movies have become cult favourites, and with a Road House remake recently a hit, we decided now would be a good time to pick the five best Patrick Swayze movies.
Red Dawn (1984)
John Millius’s cold war “what if” thriller goes down in the history books as the first-ever PG-13 movie. It was also Patrick Swayze’s first major leading role, with him best known up to this point for a supporting role in Francis Ford Coppola’s The Outsiders.

Alright, folks, I know Tom Cruise’s Cocktail has a 9% on Rotten Tomatoes, but hear me out: that movie’s ripe for a remake, and um, I want it yesterday. It’s got all the bones of a chaotic, sexy, bar-slinging fever dream, and no one’s better suited to stir up that kind of cinematic mess than Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell.
They’ve already got the chemistry, and this story needs exactly that kind of hot, chaotic energy. Cruise’s version may’ve flopped with critics, but a Gen Z twist could turn this into the cray-cray, neon-lit romance it was always meant to be.

Cocktail might have a 9% on Rotten Tomatoes, but that just makes it the perfect kind of chaotic ‘80s...

Chris Hemsworth's rise to stardom was just about as swift as it gets. Unless you're from Australia, you'd likely never seen the handsome young actor before he up and stole the opening scene of J.J. Abrams' "Star Trek" in 2009. Two years later, he would become a global superstar as the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Thor. From there, it's been smooth sailing for the hotsy-totsy Aussie.
Interestingly, had it all gone according to schedule, "Thor" wouldn't have been Hemsworth's first starring role. In 2009, prior to the release of "Star Trek," Hemsworth was cast as the hunky, jockish Curt in Drew Goddard's "Cabin in the Woods." The hilarious genre mash-up was really more of an ensemble piece, but Hemsworth came on strong -- which was completely intentional given the character's surprising death early in the film. Had Goddard's movie been released as originally planned on February 5, 2010, Hemsworth's profile would've sharply ascended in Hollywood.
