Two-time Oscar-nominated director Gus Van Sant (Good Will Hunting, Milk, Drugstore Cowboy) will receive this year’s Campari Passion for Film Award at the 82nd Venice International Film Festival.

Veteran American filmmaker Gus Van Sant will be handed the Campari Passion for Film Award at this year’s Venice Film Festival.

The award ceremony will take place on September 2 in the Sala Grande, just before a screening of his latest film Dead Man’s Wire, which screens out of Competition.

The Oscar winner recently recounted his “horrible” Feb. 11, 2009 appearance on the talk show, which came after he did the pre-interview in character for his Casey Affleck-helmed mockumentary I’m Still Here (2010), which saw Phoenix quitting acting to pursue a hip-hop career.

“I realized that it was just a little silly, so I called them back and I said, ‘Listen, this is what I’m doing. I’m coming out here and I’m doing this whole thing,'” he explained on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.

“‘And I just want Dave to like, lacerate me. I just want it to be really dangerous,'” Phoenix continued. “That was the kind of intention… I just always wanted to get this reaction...

The incident happened when Phoenix appeared as a guest on David Letterman's Late Show. At the time, Phoenix was promoting his then-upcoming mockumentary, I'm Still Here, which imagined that the actor quit Hollywood to become a hip-hop artist. He was in character as a more eccentric version of himself, but viewers didn't know it at the time, making for a very awkward segment. The intention was to generate some buzz for I'm Still Here, and that goal was certainly a success, but it's not something the Oscar winner is proud of.

The live-action remake received mixed to positive reactions on the aggregate site. But a good family movie such as this, with already a strong fan base, is bound to make it big financially. Rachel Brosnahan, the actress who is widely renowned for her breakthrough role as Miriam “Midge” Maisel in The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, has earned a one-way ticket into one of the up-and-coming Dcu, through James Gunn’s upcoming Superman. And since then, talks about her pretty much refuse to die down.

The forthcoming flick will see her embodying the character of the fan-beloved Lois Lane: A world-famous investigative journalist at Daily Planet, who works alongside (and ends up being the love interest of) Clark Kent, aka the Kryptonian superhero Kal-El (played by David Corenswet in the new movie).

Judging from the reviews that the trailer and the early screenings have received so far, Brosnahan has ostensibly left no stone unturned in giving one of the finest performances of her lifetime as Lane. But while that one’s to look forward to, you might want to see more of her after watching her in Superman.

At a Boston fund-raiser for Farm Sanctuary in July 2003, Affleck, a longtime vegan, said Farm Sanctuary’s goal of creating “rescue and rehab” centers for unwanted critters is a noble one. “All you can do is let people know what’s going on,” he said.

This Halloween season, we will have the chance to go back to Blithe Hollow, Massachusetts and re-visit 11-year-old Norman Babcock. That’s right, Laika’s stop-motion masterpiece ParaNorman will be back in theaters for a one-week engagement this October.

Laika previously did something similar with its 2024 re-release of Coraline, bringing it to theaters in 2D and RealD 3D, and that was a huge success. Coraline brought in $56 million world-wide during its re-release, making it the top-grossing stop-motion film of all time.

ParaNorman won several awards upon its initial release, and it will be presented in remastered 2D and RealD 3D formats. The re-release kicks off the 20th anniversary celebration of Laika.

The deal calls for Sony handling the global release of Artists Equity productions. The Culver City lot will also finance the films and handle all ancillaries, with Artists Equity having the option to co-finance individual projects.

Artists Equity has had a long-running non-exclusive relationship with Amazon MGM Studios on such movies as Gavin O’Connor’s The Accountant 2 ($102M global box office), Affleck’s Air Jordan Nike movie Air ($90M global) and the William Goldenberg-directed, Jennifer Lopez-starring Prime Video movie Unstoppable. Those specific features were select deals with that studio, in addition to the Doug Liman directed, Casey Affleck and Damon starring The Instigators with Apple, as well as the Cillian Murphy drama Small Things Like These with Lionsgate.

ParaNorman is returning to theaters this Halloween, newly remastered for RealD 3D and 2D formats, for a one-week engagement.

Exclusive:Hungarian filmmaker Viktor Oszkár Nagy’s pan-European period comedy Espionage For Beginners about a hotel receptionist who becomes a key figure in a Cold War military operation, has started filming in Budapest.
