One of the characters newer to the landmark animated franchise will be returning for Toy Story 5, as previously speculated and recently confirmed by the voice actor. Toy Story seemingly ended with both the third and fourth installments, but the franchise hasn't seen a bad movie yet, and a new story has taken shape, which will release in theaters on June 19, 2026.

Toy Story 5's cast is expected to once again include Tom Hanks as Woody, Tim Allen as Buzz Lightyear, and Joan Cusack as Jessie, alongside other actors who have voiced these characters across the series. It was also previously announced that Conan O'Brien would be playing a new Toy Story character, though details about this character are scarce.

ABC's Shifting Gears is preparing for its second season, and the cast and crew are seemingly going to start filming within the next couple of weeks. The sitcom stars Tim Allen as Matt, an auto restoration shop owner. In the premiere, Matt reconnects with his estranged daughter, Kat Dennings' Riley, and her two kids when they're looking for a place to stay.

Shifting Gears season 2 is set to premiere on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, at 8 pm Et on ABC, followed by Abbott Elementary season 5 at 8:30 pm Et.

According to Collider, Shifting Gears season 2 is set to enter production on Tuesday, August 19. Live studio audience tickets for the premiere episode are reportedly already being handed out, evidently confirming the start of filming date. However, outside of that minimal information, not much is known about the beginning of Shifting Gears' production for the show's second season.

If you're a film buff, you can almost certainly cite the first movie you saw in a theater. Mine was "Star Wars." I was three years old, and screamed in terror when the lights dimmed. Family sitcoms in the 1990s were huge business, and few shows had the attention of middle America quite like "Home Improvement." There aren't too many perfect movie trilogies in the history of cinema. Personally, I think Sergio Leone's epic Dollar Trilogy is the epitome, alongside the first three Matt Damon-led Bourne films, and I'm sure many would argue that both Peter Jackson's legendary "The Lord of the Rings" movies and the original "Star Wars" trilogy belong in the category, too. Similarly, although the franchise eventually continued on after their release à la "Bourne," Pixar's first three "Toy Story" films are about as superb as it gets. Indeed, the "Toy Story" property always managed to keep improving and becoming a little better over the course of its first 15 years. That's an achievement not many trilogies can wholeheartedly claim.

The fact these flicks are actually animated features mainly aimed at kids — though we all know it's the adults/parents who cry the most watching them, myself included — somehow makes their accomplishment even greater.

A long-discussed revival of the 2000s comedy series has landed a series order from ABC, where it’s been in development since December 2024 — though series creator Bill Lawrence and members of the cast have talked about reuniting for years before that. Donald Faison and Sarah Chalke, who starred in the original version of the show, have signed on to join series lead Zach Braff in the revival. All three will also be executive producers on the show, which is set to premiere in the 2025-26 season.

Of course, Rick and Morty did Easter the only way Rick and Morty could: beginning with Jerry running over the Easter Bunny with his car and continuing with the complex, interplanetary Easter origin story in which Jesus Christ — yes, that Jesus Christ — was an alien sent to Earth to eradicate the Easter Bunny, a human-sized ravenous beast that brainwashes people into having sex with each other.

While Rick and Morty themselves deal with the larger space story, Jerry’s arc in the episode sees him transform into the new Easter Bunny, much like Tim Allen turned into Santa after accidentally killing him in The Santa Clause.

Art imitating life can be incidental or wholly on purpose. When it comes to Shifting Gears' Tim Allen with his on-screen daughter Kat Dennings, it seemed to be a little bit of both. The animated franchise kicked off three decades ago, and it's still going story. With Toy Story 5 set to debut in June 2026, the studio is getting ready to promote the upcoming film. At a presentation attended by Cbr, Pixar chief creative officer Pete Docter teased the plot details for the upcoming Toy Story 5.

Pixar has had a very eventful day, as it brought several updates at France's Annecy Animation Festival. As it announced some new projects, like the original animated film Hoppers, the upcoming Elio, and Gatto, and also addressed some sequels, including Toy Story 5.

"Our first film, Toy Story 30 years ago, if you can believe it, if you do the math, that means I was around 12," Docter started.

Pixar showed up to the Annecy International Animation Festival with the goods. The animation studio announced a new film slated for the summer of 2027, an original film called “Gatto” from “Luca” director Enrico Casarosa.

Pixar announced the film from the Annecy stage on Friday and showed some concept art from the film, which you can see above. “Gatto” returns Casarosa to Italy, but this time to Venice, and follows a black cat named Nero who, after years of maneuvering the canal-ridden, superstitious city, begins to question whether he’s lived the right lives. Indebted to a local feline mob boss, Nero finds himself in a quandary and is forced to forge a truly unexpected friendship that may finally lead him to his purpose — unless Venice gets the better of him first.

Casarosa is directing the film, his follow-up to 2021’s Italian Riviera-set “Luca,” and producer Andrea Warren is also re-teaming with Casarosa on the feature.

Pixar has offered an exclusive look at Toy Story 5, while also confirming the return of a franchise veteran. The sequel, written and directed by Andrew Stanton, co-directed by McKenna Harris and produced by Jessica Choi, is set to reopen the toy box next summer, with Tom Hanks and Tim Allen reprising their roles as Woody and Buzz Lightyear, respectively. Valerie Mahaffey has sadly passed away at the age of 71 after a battle with cancer. She will be remembered for her work in Young Sheldon and Jack and Jill, and also for starring alongside Tim Allen in Jungle 2 Jungle. It’s unclear how long she had been battling cancer. Mahaffey was born on June 16, 1953, in Sumatra, Indonesia. Hailing from an American family, her father was a petroleum worker, which led to their family moving around during her childhood. She spent many of her early years in Indonesia, Nigeria, and the U.K. It wasn’t until she was 16 that her family relocated to Austin, Texas, and she ultimately graduated from the University of Texas with a Bachelor of Fine Arts before beginning her Broadway and Hollywood careers.
