One of the characters newer to the landmark animated franchise will be returning for Toy Story 5, as previously speculated and recently confirmed by the voice actor. Toy Story seemingly ended with both the third and fourth installments, but the franchise hasn't seen a bad movie yet, and a new story has taken shape, which will release in theaters on June 19, 2026.
Toy Story 5's cast is expected to once again include Tom Hanks as Woody, Tim Allen as Buzz Lightyear, and Joan Cusack as Jessie, alongside other actors who have voiced these characters across the series. It was also previously announced that Conan O'Brien would be playing a new Toy Story character, though details about this character are scarce.
Meanwhile, while promoting his new movie Sketch on The Discourse podcast, Tony Hale confirmed that his character Forky will be returning for Toy Story 5. Forky was introduced in the previous installment,...

If you're a film buff, you can almost certainly cite the first movie you saw in a theater. Mine was "Star Wars." I was three years old, and screamed in terror when the lights dimmed. I was enchanted for a whole ten minutes or so before conking out -- though I did rouse for the trench run. I finally watched "Star Wars" in its entirety during its 1978 rerelease, and that experience of, to my four-year-old mind, having watched a movie that was shot in space is an exhilaration I've been chasing for the last 47 years.
I was fortunate that my introduction to the transporting magic of the movies came via the most pivotal piece of cinema, commercially and artistically, since "Gone with the Wind." Meanwhile, there's some kid out there whose first trip to the theater was to see Tim Allen in "Jungle 2 Jungle.

Pamela Anderson is the embodiment of Hollywood’s ‘bombshell’ trope. Soon after she got cast in Baywatch, the actress became one of the biggest names in the industry, turning heads and becoming a household name. Despite this, all she seemed to be known for was her physical characteristics, being nothing more than a s*x object in the eyes of her viewers.
This was not happenstance, as Baywatch very intentionally objectified the actress to the point of no return. However, it wasn’t the only series to do so, since it almost became a trend to s*xualize Anderson. In fact, five other shows collectively created her allure and refused to allow the world to see her talent. They each had their individual role to play, and they are as follows.

During the Season 1 finale, Riley decides to finally divorce Jimmy when he comes home for Georgia’s middle school graduation after announcing plans to tour with the Foo Fighters. Matt fights with his nemesis Eve (Jenna Elfman), who works next door to him and hits his car with his door. By the end of the episode, the enemies become lovers and share a shocking kiss. Family sitcoms in the 1990s were huge business, and few shows had the attention of middle America quite like "Home Improvement." The series starred Tim Allen as Tim "The Toolman" Taylor, a Bob Vila-esque home improvement TV show host, and as it ran from 1991 to 1999, the bizarre guttural sound of Allen's signature grunt was guaranteed to crop up in commercials during your Saturday morning cartoons. Based on Allen's stand-up, the show revolved around Taylor's family life in Detroit with his wife Jill (Patricia Richardson) and their three sons, but also contained a mini-episode of Taylor's show, "Tool Time," each week. The fictional show-within-the-show was a lot of fun, with Tim's co-host Al (Richard Karn) playing the straight man to Tim's antics, but for some, there was another big draw to "Tool Time": The "Tool Time" Girls.

There aren't too many perfect movie trilogies in the history of cinema. Personally, I think Sergio Leone's epic Dollar Trilogy is the epitome, alongside the first three Matt Damon-led Bourne films, and I'm sure many would argue that both Peter Jackson's legendary "The Lord of the Rings" movies and the original "Star Wars" trilogy belong in the category, too. Similarly, although the franchise eventually continued on after their release à la "Bourne," Pixar's first three "Toy Story" films are about as superb as it gets. Indeed, the "Toy Story" property always managed to keep improving and becoming a little better over the course of its first 15 years. That's an achievement not many trilogies can wholeheartedly claim.
The fact these flicks are actually animated features mainly aimed at kids — though we all know it's the adults/parents who cry the most watching them, myself included — somehow makes their accomplishment even greater.

Start your engines — Matt Parker’s garage is reopening for business. ABC’s breakout comedy Shifting Gears is officially back in gear for Season 2, with Tim Allen returning to the role that has already cemented itself as another classic in his sitcom legacy, as the network has confirmed that the new season will premiere on October 1. Fans of the show — and of Allen’s well-oiled comedic formula — are revved up and ready. The series first premiered in January 2025, where it quickly became ABC’s most-streamed comedy premiere ever, pulling in a staggering 17 million cross-platform viewers in just seven days. While its live ratings cooled slightly over the season, the show’s strong delayed viewership and streaming performance were more than enough to guarantee another lap around the track.

“TV comedy writer” isn’t a job that people typically associate with a lot of intensive research. After all, it’s not like anyone’s burning the midnight oil at the 24-hour college library in order to churn out a script for the latest Tim Allen sitcom. But writing for The Simpsons, on the other hand, has occasionally required a more studious approach.
Legendary Simpsons writer and producer Josh Weinstein recently pointed out that one 28-year-old joke took a surprising amount of effort. In Season Eight’s Frasier-coded episode “Brother From Another Series,” Sideshow Bob is reunited with his snobbish brother Cecil (played by guest star David Hyde Pierce). As the two catch up over dinner, Cecil brags that he’s now “Springfield’s chief hydrological and hydrodynamical engineer,” years after a failed audition to become Krusty the Clown’s sidekick.

Norm Macdonald and Harland Williams were old buddies dating back to their early days as up-and-coming comedians in Canada. That’s one reason Macdonald never messed with Williams in the same way he teased other celebrities. “He couldn’t get away with anything with me, and he knew it,” Williams said on the We Think It’s Funny podcast. “We had a very good mutual friendship.”
The Norm Macdonald who Williams knew was different from Macdonald’s stand-up and podcast personas. “When we were just hanging out in real life, that wasn’t how he presented himself,” he said, imitating Macdonald’s comic cadence. “You know, it was a bit of a character.”
Williams was talking about Macdonald’s “Hey, buddy!” persona, a facade that was half Macdonald and half put-on. On several occasions, Macdonald told Williams that the funny delivery was rooted in his love for a certain cantankerous...

Reader, you have been lied to! Film history is littered with unfairly maligned classics, whether critics were too eager to review the making of rather than the finished product, or they suffered from underwhelming ad campaigns or general disinterest. Let’s revise our takes on some of these films from wrongheaded to the correct opinion.
When director John Badham‘s skydiving thriller “Drop Zone” was released by Paramount Pictures in December 1994, the general perception was that it was a ridiculous and disposable programmer. It did Ok at the box office (opening at number three behind Barry Levinson‘s hot-button drama “Disclosure” and the Tim Allen family hit “The Santa Clause”), but critics had their knives out for the movie’s allegedly indefensible plot holes, and the movie was largely forgotten a few weeks after it opened.

Any man hoping to score a date with cosplayer, actor and content creator Kathenn will have to flex their pipes before they can even think about “Tool Time.”
Anyone unlucky enough to be single in 2025 knows that the culture of dating apps and left swipes is a broken system. Men spend all day on Hinge, Tinder and Bumble trying to score a single match who probably won’t even message back, and women are forced to endure a constant stream of cheesy, unoriginal or downright inappropriate pick-up lines until they wise up and turn off their notifications. Unfortunately for singles of both genders, companies like Hinge and Tinder have little incentive to repair their borderline inoperable algorithms, as the less likely users are to find their perfect match, the higher the chances are that they stick around and maybe even splurge on a premium subscription.

Although sold to audiences as a delightful holiday comedy for the family, John Pasquin's 1994 blockbuster "The Santa Clause" has a twisted premise at its heart. Divorced dad Scott Calvin (Tim Allen) is looking after his young son Charlie (Eric Lloyd) on Christmas night when, up on the roof, there arises a clatter. He goes to investigate and finds the very real Santa Claus preparing to go down his chimney. Scott yells out and startles Santa, causing the jolly old man to fall off the roof to his death. The accidental manslaughter of Santa Claus is a weird place to start a heartwarming fable for kids, much less Disney's larger "Santa Clause" franchise.
Scott then finds a business card among Santa's belongings, entreating him to don the furry red coat and pick up the Christmas gig where Santa left off. Scott, in turn, returns the sleigh to the North Pole...

When they say everybody loves Raymond, they weren’t kidding. Nine seasons, 200+ episodes and one of the most nominated comedies in Primetime Emmy history, Everybody Loves Raymond remains one of the most beloved sitcoms ever. And while it lives on in reruns, don’t expect it to get the reboot treatment.
Some of the most popular comedies of the ‘90s and ‘00s have seen reboots and revivals — we’re talking Frasier, That ‘70s Show, Scrubs, etc. And despite some fan support, a favorite on Everybody Loves Raymond says one of his show just isn’t going to happen. According to Brad Garrett — who played Ray Romano’s brother Robert to much acclaim — “There won’t be [a continuation]. And I’m just saying that because that’s something that Ray and Phil [Rosenthal, the show’s creator] have always said.” Garrett is referring to the numerous times that Romano has shut down...

Easter may have been a couple of months ago, but that didn’t stop last night’s Rick and Morty from “decking the house with Easter baskets,” as Jerry sang in his horrendous musical opening.
Of course, Rick and Morty did Easter the only way Rick and Morty could: beginning with Jerry running over the Easter Bunny with his car and continuing with the complex, interplanetary Easter origin story in which Jesus Christ — yes, that Jesus Christ — was an alien sent to Earth to eradicate the Easter Bunny, a human-sized ravenous beast that brainwashes people into having sex with each other.
While Rick and Morty themselves deal with the larger space story, Jerry’s arc in the episode sees him transform into the new Easter Bunny, much like Tim Allen turned into Santa after accidentally killing him in The Santa Clause.
And so, we decided to turn to the voice of Jerry himself,...

Rick and Morty just rewrote Christianity’s canonical Easter explanation for which came first: the Jesus or the eggs.
Ever since Season One, Dan Harmon and the Rick and Morty writers have made it clear that a sci-fi comedy centered around a genius nihilist simply cannot be a safe space for the faithful. In the very pilot of Rick and Morty, Rick’s famous off-hand remark to his granddaughter, “There is no God, Summer. Gotta rip that Band-Aid off now, you’ll thank me later,” established the show’s atheistic approach to cosmic questions about the nature of existence. Although Rick and Morty spent most of its run sporting a dismissive indifference toward organized religion, the last few seasons have seen the show take a more aggressive approach to satirizing certain sensitive belief systems.

Art imitating life can be incidental or wholly on purpose. When it comes to Shifting Gears' Tim Allen with his on-screen daughter Kat Dennings, it seemed to be a little bit of both. In Shifting Gears, Allen and Dennings play an estranged father-daughter pair, Matt and Riley, who have to reunite when Riley moves back in with her two children. The pair, attributing Riley's mom as the only reason they ever really got along, spend the season rebuilding their relationship in their forced proximity.
It comes with challenges, of course, with Riley being a stereotypical sarcastic Millennial and Matt being incredibly stuck in his ways. For Father's Day, Allen penned an essay for AARP, reflecting on the similarities and differences between Dennings and his two real-life daughters, Katherine Allen and Elizabeth Allen Dick:
"On my new ABC show Shifting Gears, my fictional daughter isn’t based explicitly on either of my actual daughters.

It’s been more than 30 years since Home Improvement made Tim Allen a household name, but the actor and comedian is marking this Father’s Day not with nostalgia, but with honesty. In a heartfelt new personal essay written for AARP, Allen opened up about the emotional toll his rise to stardom took on his relationship with his daughter Kate. Reflecting on the early days of the hit sitcom, which originally aired from 1991 to 1999, Allen admitted that he wasn't the father he needed to be during those crucial years.
“A few years after Kate was born, I started the show Home Improvement, so I was easily distracted. I wasn’t around nearly as much as I should have been. I was traveling, making movies, partying all the damn time. It was a fun decade, but I missed out on a lot.”
That “fun decade” also included a serious wake-up call.

Disney / Pixar will be releasing the new “Toy Story 5” film on June 19, 2026.
Now we know who the villain of the next film will be, a Leap Pad adjacent character called Lillypad.
For those that don’t remember the Leap Pad debuted in 1999 but gained popularity in the early 2000s.
Made by Leap Frog, whose logo is a frog, the early Leap Pads were green. My son had one when he was little and that is why my mind went to the Leap Pad when I saw the Lillypad.
Technology is the big bad in Toy Story 5.
According to a presentation at Annecy and International animation festival, Pixar Cco Pete Docter gave a look at the new film and said that the plot will be toys meeting tech.
Bonnie Anderson will once again be the child of the film. She is now 8 years old and uses a tablet called Lillypad.

Pixar is preparing to revisit one of its most iconic franchises, with Toy Story 5, the continuation of the beloved animated series that has been a cornerstone of the studio’s legacy since 1995.
What's the (toy) story?
According to early details shared by the filmmakers, Toy Story 5 will explore the role of toys in an age dominated by screens. Bonnie, last seen as a young child in Toy Story 3, is now eight years old and spending more of her time with a new tech tablet she’s named Lillypad. Her growing attachment to the device has led to a gradual disinterest in her traditional toys, sparking an identity crisis among her longtime favorites. The situation comes to a head with the arrival of Lilly, a sleek, voice-interactive AI character who quickly becomes the center of Bonnie’s attention.
Meanwhile, Woody (Tom Hanks) —who chose to live as a...

Pixar had a massive year in 2024 with the success of Inside Out 2. The animated studio has even more exciting projects for the future, including a new Toy Story installment.
The animated franchise kicked off three decades ago, and it's still going story. With Toy Story 5 set to debut in June 2026, the studio is getting ready to promote the upcoming film. At a presentation attended by Cbr, Pixar chief creative officer Pete Docter teased the plot details for the upcoming Toy Story 5.
Pixar has had a very eventful day, as it brought several updates at France's Annecy Animation Festival. As it announced some new projects, like the original animated film Hoppers, the upcoming Elio, and Gatto, and also addressed some sequels, including Toy Story 5.
"Our first film, Toy Story 30 years ago, if you can believe it, if you do the math, that means I was around 12," Docter started.

Pixar showed up to the Annecy International Animation Festival with the goods. The animation studio announced a new film slated for the summer of 2027, an original film called “Gatto” from “Luca” director Enrico Casarosa.
Pixar announced the film from the Annecy stage on Friday and showed some concept art from the film, which you can see above. “Gatto” returns Casarosa to Italy, but this time to Venice, and follows a black cat named Nero who, after years of maneuvering the canal-ridden, superstitious city, begins to question whether he’s lived the right lives. Indebted to a local feline mob boss, Nero finds himself in a quandary and is forced to forge a truly unexpected friendship that may finally lead him to his purpose — unless Venice gets the better of him first.
Casarosa is directing the film, his follow-up to 2021’s Italian Riviera-set “Luca,” and producer Andrea Warren is also re-teaming with Casarosa on the feature.

Toy Story 5 is hitting theaters next summer, but until now, details on the animated sequel have been sparse. Now, Pixar chief creative officer Pete Docter has given a first glimpse into the plot and central conflict of the film at a presentation attended by Collider's Michael Zimmerman. Docter describes the movie as "toy meets tech": you'll be able to see for yourself when it premieres on June 19, 2026. Docter, who has been with Pixar for over 35 years, reiterated the key themes of the Toy Story franchise and previewed the central plot that will drive the newest sequel:
"In all the Toy Story films, above anything else, the job of the toys has been to be there for their kids. But with Toy Story 5, that job gets exponentially harder when our toy crew gets replaced by what kids are obsessed by today: electronics."

What's the future of Pixar? With a track record as extensive as theirs, this question tends to come up with greater frequency than anywhere else. Still, the well-respected animation giant seems to have weathered Hollywood's various stops and starts over the last several years better than most. When the pandemic reared its ugly head, the studio was forced to navigate the new reality of straight-to-streaming releases for tentpoles originally meant for theaters. When Disney led the subsequent charge into the digital space, Pixar played ball and made their first-ever foray into streaming television with the Disney+ series "Win or Lose." And when their parent company abruptly reversed course and reprioritized the theatrical experience, the studio once again put on its superhero cape and turned "Elemental" into a sneaky box office hit, just when exhibitors everywhere needed it most.

Toy Story is somewhat of a frustrating franchise for many fans purely because Toy Story 3 seemingly served as the perfect ending to the series that catapulted Pixar and took animated films into a brave new world. Despite the satisfying and emotional closure of the third movie, Disney would still give audiences the chance to revisit the toys in a small fashion with shorts that continued to show what our plastic friends were up to. Then, Toy Story 4 would be released. It would gain critical and audience acclaim. However, it meant saying an emotional goodbye yet again.
That won’t stop Disney from releasing a fifth film in the series. According to The Hollywood Reporter, a new look at Toy Story 5 was shown at the recent Annecy International Animation Festival. “Toy Story 5” is nearly here.
The sequel, written and directed by Pixar legend Andrew Stanton, co-directed by McKenna Harris and produced by Jessica Choi, doesn’t arrive until next summer. But at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival on Friday, Pixar chief creative officer Pete Docter surprised the audience by showing the first scene of the movie – and it is a doozy.
Docter set up the story by saying that, since Woody (Tom Hanks) left Bonnie to look after abandoned toys, Jesse has led the charge in Bonnie’s room. Buzz (Tim Allen) is her dutiful second-in-command. But Bonnie is now 8 (they showed her new look and it is appropriately adorable) and it seems like she is becoming enamored with more advanced toys, like Lilypad, which is like an iPad with a frog’s features around its frame.

Shifting Gears: Finale Kiss Between Matt & Eve Steals Spotlight From Real Romance (Photo Credit – Prime Video)
Shifting Gears Season 1 ends with a bang or, more accurately, a kiss. Tim Allen’s Matt locking lips with Jenna Elfman’s Eve might’ve been a shocking moment, but it also sparks a serious issue: it threatens to steal focus from the real couple fans are rooting for — Riley and Gabriel.
