1987’s The Running Man is definitely a cult hit among Arnold Schwarzenegger’s movies, but it tends to get overlooked among some of the other classics he made. After all, it came out the same year as Predator, and let’s face facts—it’s no Predator. Perhaps that’s why Schwarzenegger himself once said it was the perfect movie of his to be remade. Everyone involved with the new version—especially Edgar Wright—would probably say it’s less a remake and more a fresh adaptation of Stephen King’s novel, which he wrote under the pseudonym Richard Bachman.
Based on the trailer alone, it does seem to be a somewhat more faithful adaptation, retaining an element that was ditched from the Schwarzenegger movie: Ben Richards is more impoverished, blacklisted from his profession, and trying to raise money to treat his ill daughter. Stephen King is well known for being very honest about how he feels when movies are made from his books. He has criticized many adaptations, including the famous version of The Shining directed by Stanley Kubrick. Another film he didn’t like at all is The Running Man, a 1987 movie directed by Paul Michael Glaser.
King was so unhappy with The Running Man movie that he asked the studio to remove his name from the advertising. Instead of showing Stephen King as the author, the film credits say it’s based on a book by Richard Bachman, which is actually a fake name King used for some of his novels.
The biggest issue King had was how different the movie was from his original story. The book is dark, serious, and has a grim tone. The movie, however, is lighter and more fun, filled with action and a happy ending.

Stephen King has never been shy about sharing his opinions on movies made from his books. He has openly criticized several adaptations, including the famous Stanley Kubrick version of The Shining.
Another film he strongly disliked is The Running Man, directed by Paul Michael Glaser and released in 1987. Even when he's not in a Navy cockpit, Glen Powell has a need for speed. The first trailer for The Running Man raced onto the internet today, featuring the Top Gun: Maverick star taking on a role previously played by Arnold Schwarzenegger in a deliciously '80s adaptation of Stephen King's dystopian novel.
Hailing from director Edgar Wright, this new Running Man is running a very different race. Hewing more closely to the novel — which King published under his since-abandoned nom de plume of Richard Bachman — the updated film has an edgy sense of humor and fleet-footed action sequences that unfold in multiple locations across the U.S.
Appearing at CinemaCon earlier this year, Wright described his take as a "very intense, dangerous road movie." And he praised his leading man for never taking a breather during the movie's rapid-fire production. "He literally and figuratively threw himself into it,...

One of the most anticipated movies coming out this fall comes from contemporary English auteur Edgar Wright. Known for his kinetic style and genre-bending flair, Wright recently wrapped filming on The Running Man, an adaptation of a Stephen King book of the same name released under his pseudonym, Richard Bachman.
The film stars Glen Powell as Ben Richards, a desperate father who enters a deadly reality competition in a bid to provide for his family. However, Wright isn’t the first to take a crack at this story. The novel was first brought to the big screen in 1987, with Arnold Schwarzenegger in the lead and Paul Michael Glaser directing. Now, with buzz heating up around the upcoming remake, the original is sprinting back into the spotlight and will soon land on a free streaming platform. The same year he was featured in his iconic role in Predator, Arnold Schwarzeneggerstarred in a dystopian survival thriller loosely based on Stephen King's novel, The Running Man. In November, Edgar Wright's new take on The Running Man will be premiering in theaters, presenting a new reimagining of the Stephen King story. Arnold Schwarzenegger, who famously starred in the first feature film released in 1987, feels optimistic that Wright's version will be able to improve upon what the original movie was lacking.
Schwarzenegger recently spoke with Grae Drake for Cbr Presents: Draw! to promote the second season of Fubar on Netflix, which premieres on June 12. The subject of The Running Man came up during the conversation, and Schwarzenegger shared his thoughts on the new movie coming out this year. While he says he doesn't know much in terms of Wright's creative direction, he believes the remake has an edge over the original thanks to modern visual effects. The actor noted that this was where the classic Running Man movie could have been "better."

Paramount Pictures is readying to put Edgar Wright’s The Running Man in the starting block with seven months to go before a Nov. 7 debut in theaters. The cast looked prepped and game to set a strong theatrical pace by appearing on Caesars Palace’s Colosseum stage during the studio’s CinemaCon presentation on Thursday.
“I have never worked harder on a movie in my life,” said star Glen Powell, known as one of the busier actor-producers in Hollywood of the film, which just wrapped a week ago.
Wright and Powell were joined by Josh Brolin and Colman Domingo for a lively segment during which they introduced never-before-seen footage from the film, an adaptation of Stephen King’s 1982 novel. The 1987 adaptation of The Running Man is coming to Paramount+ this week.
The original film adaptation of Steven King's 1982 novel The Running Man is coming to Paramount+ on April 1st. The 1987 film, directed by Paul Michael Glaser, starred Hollywood icon Arnold Schwarzenegger in addition to María Conchita Alonso, Richard Dawson, Yaphet Kotto, and Jesse Ventura. The film was met with mixed reviews from critics, sitting at 67% on Rotten Tomatoes, and was a moderate box office success, grossing $38.1 million on a budget of $27 million.
The dystopian thriller novel, written under King's pen name "Richard Bachman," was set in an alternate version of the United States. The novel takes place in 2025, while the 1987 film took place somewhere between 2017 and 2019. The film was notably a much more straightforward action film than the original novel's plot. The film followed Ben Richards, a government scapegoat forced onto a sadistic game show known as The Running Man.

Darren Aronofsky is circling to direct Netflix’s Cujo film, based on the novel by Stephen King.
Deadline first reported the news of the film adaptation , with Roy Lee attached to produce in the deal made last week.
The 1981 novel was originally adapted into a thriller film in 1983 starring Dee Wallace as a mother protecting her sone from a 200-pound St. Bernard that turned rabid after being bit by a bat. The formerly friendly hound transformed into one of cold calculation that left a trail of bodies in its wake.
The climactic scene in that film took place when Wallace’s mother and her son face the difficult decision of battling heatstroke in a car that won’t start or confronting the big, rabid dog waiting for them outside the small vehicle.
Aronofsky’s more recent projects include Postcard from Earth (2023) and The Whale (2022) starring Brendan Fraser...

What Did Nicolas Cage Say About Eating A Live Cockroach? (Photo Credit – Facebook)
While filming the 1988 black horror comedy Vampire’s Kiss, Nicolas Cage made a bold (and stomach-turning) decision. His character, Peter Loew, a delusional literary critic who believed he was a vampire, originally had a scene where he was supposed to eat a raw egg. But Cage had other ideas. “I thought eating a cockroach would be more effective,” he told Yahoo Entertainment. “I’ll never do that again. I’m sorry I did it at all.”
That wasn’t a one-take horror. He had to do it twice. Twice the crunch. Twice the regret. Vampire’s Kiss, directed by Robert Bierman, wasn’t exactly a smash hit. Despite Cage’s mind-boggling performance and a cult following, the film tanked at the box office. It did, however, cement Cage’s reputation for fully committing to roles – sometimes to extremes.

Gladiator II, the follow-up to Ridley Scott's Academy Award-winning 2000 film, has audiences once again returning to the Colosseum of Ancient Rome to witness the glory and spectacle of gladiatorial combat. The swing of the sword mesmerizes the crowds as Caesar sits in judgment; the thrilling entertainment that took place thousands of years ago is once again depicted. There's something that we, as modern audiences, can certainly relate to.
The need for escapism and spectacle and our penchant for sensational entertainment has remained unchanged in the centuries that have passed since the days of Caesar. One could even make the comparison that sitting in front of our television screens and phones bears a striking similarity to the attendants of the games in the Colosseum and Circus Maximus.

Released under King’s pseudonym, Richard Bachman, the book was hardly a hit. Once King was outed as the author, sales went through the roof. Hollywood came calling. With King being popular once again, another adaptation of the book is in the making.
What’s It About?
In the 80s adaptation, Arnold Schwarzenegger stars as a wrongfully convicted police officer. He gets a chance at freedom if he can survive the game show The Running Man. Of course, the game is rigged so that no one ever wins, but this time is different. They don’t know who they are messing with.

Edgar Wrights The Running Man is shaping up to be one of the finest Stephen King adaptations yet, at least when it comes to its cast. Glen Powell, Josh Brolin, Katy OBrian, and Lee Pace have all signed on to appear in the production, and now we have word that two more heavyweights are joining in on the fun, including Michael Cera, who will reunite with his Scott Pilgrim vs. the World director in a live-action project for the first time in 14 years.

Glen Powell has found his adversary in Edgar Wright's upcoming adaptation of The Running Man, based on Stephen King's 1982 novel. Stephen King's stratospheric career as the world's premiere horror scribe began with the creation of a now-famous female protagonist telekinetic outcast Carrie White and a notorious female villain, Carrie's fanatical mother Margaret. Since then, he has crafted a whole catalog of thrilling roles for women, be they electrifying leads or unforgettable second-stringers. Just the mention of King's name instantly brings to mind some of these iconic characters.

Kill ‘Em All 2 picks up seven years after the events of the original, which makes sense since there’s seven years between the films, with Phillip reconnected with his daughter Vanessa and the two of them hiding out in southern Italy.
They obviously didn’t do a good job of it, as within the film’s first few minutes they’re attacked by goons working for Vlad Petrovic who is out to avenge the death of his brother Dimitri who was killed in the first film. This puts them on the run, trying to stay alive long enough to deal with Vlad and his crew, and the only way to do that is to kill ’em all.

Horror is a genre that, by its very button-pushing nature, tends to target younger audiences. Its propensity for breaking taboos and pushing boundaries makes it a natural vector for youthful rebellion, and the same is said of rock and roll. All this would seem to place Rob Zombie firmly in an adolescent area of pop culture which makes his focus on older characters a pleasant surprise. In a recent interview, the filmmaker said he wants his next movie to star Danny Trejo, an 80-year-old actor who wouldn't even be the oldest actor in the Zombie clique.
The filmmaker's 2003 feature debut House of 1,000 Corpses followed the standard slasher movie model with its naive young protagonists, but the main characters of 2005's The Devil's Rejects ranged in age from about 50 to 66. Hollywood megastar Glen Powell is no stranger to reboots, remakes, and sequels. Having just come off the hugely successful summer blockbuster Twisters, he seemed to have come out of nowhere in 2022 thanks to Top Gun: Maverick, despite being in the business for nearly 20 years up to that point. Now, Powell is teasing his next project, Edgar Wrights The Running Man, calling it an amalgamation of Stephen Kings classic novel and the offbeat style of Wright.
Speaking with ScreenRant to promote The Best Mans Ghostwriter, an original podcast courtesy of Audible, Powell teased that hes been "doing a lot of sprinting" to get ready for The Running Man, which begins filming this fall. Jokes aside, Powell would go on to say that not only has he wanted to work with Wright for years now, but that the director of the Three Flavors Cornetto trilogy is bringing his own flair to the project.

Sorry, Anyone But You fans, but you are going to have to wait a bit longer for a Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell reunion project. The Euphoria actor is reportedly not set to appear opposite Powell in the upcoming remake of Stephen King's The Running Man.
Last week, insider Daniel Richtman reported that Sweeney was being eyed for a role in director Edgar Wright's Running Man reboot. Unfortunately, Collider has since learned that the actor will not be appearing in the upcoming King adaptation. While the casting was never officially confirmed by Wright or Paramount, it did seem to work with Sweeney's upcoming schedule. She's preparing to start filming a biopic about famous fighter Christy Martin imminently, while The Running Man won't start shooting until October. This would have given Sweeney plenty of time to wrap her role in the King adaptation before early 2025, which is when HBO begins filming Season 3 of Euphoria.

This would have given Sweeney plenty of time to wrap her role in the King adaptation before early 2025, which is when HBO begins filming Season 3 of Euphoria.

Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell may have found their next collaboration. Several publications, citing industry insider Daniel Richtman as a source, have shared that Sweeney is being eyed to join Powell in an adaptation of Stephen King's dystopian novel, The Running Man. In April, Variety confirmed that Powell would lead the adaptation as Ben Richards. If Sweeney is to join the film, it will mark the second collaboration between the two following their sleeper hit Anyone But You. Given all the press that surrounded that film - most notably around Powell and Sweeney's chemistry - we know there'd be plenty of media buzz about their on-screen reunion.

The Running Man, the Stephen King classic dystopian novel, will be getting a remake by Edgar Wright soon, and star Glen Powell just offered an exciting update. Wrights project follows a lifelong mission to do a whole new adaptation of Kings book, and since he came on board to helm the remake, Wright has been clear about what he wants to do: not a remake of 1987s Arnold Schwarzenegger action film, but a new take of the material.
In an interview with IndieWire, Powell has now confirmed The Running Man is happening and begins shooting next fall. He also intends to finish his college degree at the University of Texas at the same time:
"Im not going to be sitting in a class with other students on the regular. Im basically going to be coming back because I have to finish up, but Im going to be shooting The Running Man in the fall.

Top Gun: Maverick star Glen Powell has shared a major update regarding Edgar Wrights upcoming remake of Stephen Kings dystopian thriller novel The Running Man. The 1982 book was first adapted into a movie in 1987, with Arnold Schwarzenegger as the lead actor.
During a recent interview with IndieWire, Powell confirmed that Paramount Pictures is currently targeting a Fall 2024 production start for The Running Man remake, which will take place in London. In addition, Powell also expressed his excitement for the project, teasing fans to expect an "outrageous" adaptation from Wright. "Weve been going back and forth on script stuff, and its so fun. The world that Edgars developed on this thing is just outrageous," he said. "Its so good. And really, were just both such big fans of the Stephen King book, and its going to be a great character. Im so fired up about it."

Nicolas Cage is a performer who routinely defies logic and expectations. A true national treasure of cinema (no pun intended), Cage has never been afraid to cross genre lines and take big swings with the characters he embodies. Such is the case in the new film Longlegs by Osgood Perkins. In the movie, Cage plays the titular Longlegs, an elusive and terrifying serial killer. While previously able to stay off the FBI’s radar, everything changes when a young recruit named Lee Harker (Maika Monroe) gets assigned to the case.
Bloody Disgusting’s own Meagan Navarro wrote in her Longlegs review that Cage delivers his “most unsettling performance yet.” With a career as prolific and varied as Cage’s, that statement should not be taken lightly. Ahead of the film’s release in theaters everywhere on July 12th, let’s take a look at some of Cage’s other unsettling,...

Well, I warned you. Kind of. While today’s story is released with Stephen King’s name plastered all over it, at the time of its release The Running Man was under the name of Richard Bachman, who had some dark stories attached to him. I was planning on doing this for a while but with the news that Edgar Wright is going to tackle the story in a new version that hopefully is closer to the book, it makes too much sense to talk about this dystopian horror now. While it’s a stalwart of Arnold Schwarzenegger’s catalogue of action, especially that range from 1987 to 1991, it’s not often looked at as a premiere Stephen King adaptation. It’s not expressly seen as horror but when it gets boiled down, both book and film, it’s horrific what happens in both stories and what’s going on in the worlds of both medias.
