‘A Game in Yellow’ Review – Hailey Piper’s Cosmic Horror Book Is Sensual and Immersive
Image
The cover of Hailey Piper’s A Game in Yellow features a woman in profile from the chest up, bent over…and melting. It’s an apt visual for the cosmic horror contained within the pages of the prolific Bram Stoker award-winning author’s latest novel, which is all about the collapse of boundaries – both personal and textual.

The protagonist is Carmen, a middle-aged woman working a non-descript office job that she doesn’t care about. What she does care about is her girlfriend, Blanca, who she fears is drifting away because of their issues in the bedroom. Carmen is desperate to keep Blanca engaged and satisfied, which has led to the couple pushing the boundaries of their kink from mild S&m into increasingly explicit fantasy/roleplay territory.

One night Blanca takes Carmen to visit Smoke, a young, hot, enigmatic woman who offers Carmen a fleeting glimpse of a...

Super Cartridge from Hell: The Unreleased ‘Hellraiser’ Nes Video Game!
Image
There may have been a recent boom in horror properties being turned into popular video games, but we’ve been seeing interactive adaptations of films like Halloween and even The Texas Chain Saw Massacre as far back as the 1970s. In fact, the sheer amount of these licensed horror titles suggests that genre fans have always enjoyed seeing their horrific icons brought to life through pixels and polygons– it’s just a lot easier to market digital murder now that society has mostly accepted that video games aren’t just for children.

However, with everything from The Thing to The Evil Dead having received licensed games to varying degrees of success, there’s still one prolific horror franchise that never got the chance to scare players in a virtual setting despite literally releasing a sequel about a cursed videogame. Naturally, I’m referring to Hellraiser, a forty-year-old multi-media empire that...

Six of the Scariest Supporting Cenobites in the ‘Hellraiser’ Franchise
Image
Whether you were first introduced to the Order of the Gash through the 1987 movie or Clive Barker’s original Hellbound Heart, I think it’s safe to say that the Bdsm-inspired Cenobites are some of the most memorable monsters in the past century of popular culture. And while “Pinhead” stole the show as the leader of the original band of otherworldly creatures, the Hellraiser series has gone on to introduce many more Cenobites over the years.

And in honor of Saber Interactive’s upcoming video game expanding the world of Hellraiser with a brand-new story overseen by Clive Barker himself, we’ve decided to come up with a list celebrating six of the scariest supporting Cenobites that aren’t a part of the original foursome.

For the purposes of this list, we’ll only be considering fully-fledged Cenobites of the Order of the Gash, which means we won’t be...

The Hellraiser Video Game Is Taking Cues From The Franchise's Most Underrated Movie
Image
Clive Barker's "Hellraiser" franchise might not be as popular as "Friday the 13th," "Halloween," "Evil Dead," and "A Nightmare on Elm Street," but most people still know Pinhead and the Cenobites. The leather-clad, extra-dimensional demons debuted in Barker's "The Hellbound Heart" novella before going on to cause legendary suffering in movies, comics, and Motorhead music videos, but they have yet to star in their own video game (unless you count the fictional one in the maligned "Hellraiser: Hellworld"). However, that's all about to change with Saber Interactive and Boss Team Games' "Hellraiser: Revival," which will take players straight into the Labyrinth. (Check out the gnarly trailer right here.)

"Hellraiser: Revival" tells the story of Aiden, a man who enters the Cenobites' lair to rescue his girlfriend from damnation. The plot echoes the Greek myth of Orpheus and Eurydice, as well as the underrated "Dante's Inferno" video game, but...

‘Assassin’s Creed Shadows’ Surpasses 5 Million Players Four Months After Launch (Gaming News Roundup)
Image
French video game publishing giant Ubisoft reported its first-quarter earnings this week, revealing lower than expected net bookings (282 million in euros) which the company attributes to weak performance for “Rainbow Six Siege” and in part due to “an unfavorable foreign exchange impact.”

On a more positive note, the company says March release “Assassin’s Creed Shadows” has now crossed 5 million players.

During a call with analysts, Ubisoft co-founder and CEO Yves Guillemot expanded on changes to internal structure at Ubisoft, following the recent appointment of senior leadership at the company’s new subsidiary: “We also continued to make meaningful progress on Ubisoft’s transformation by outlining a new operating model built around business units, called Creative Houses. These units will reflect our diverse types of gaming experiences and will allow for enhanced quality, focus, autonomy and accountability. Over time, each of these Creative Houses will boost creative vision and business performance.

Pedro Pascal’s Horror Picks: 6 Scary Movies He Thinks Everyone Should Watch
Image
Pedro Pascal has always loved horror movies. Growing up in the 1980s, he was completely hooked. In fact, he says he used to act out scenes from Poltergeist as a kid. When asked by Sky to list his all-time favorite films, many of them turned out to be horror classics.

One of the movies he picked is An American Werewolf in London. Released in 1981, it became famous for its shocking special effects and clever mix of horror and comedy. Pedro remembers watching it when he was young, and it left a mark.

“It’s amazing. We got cable TV when I was very young. It scared me, and I thought it was hilarious. And you look at it now, and it really holds up. It has special effects that changed cinema, and has been built on since then,” he said.

Another horror film Pedro swears by is The Shining. Stanley Kubrick...

Original 'Hellraiser' Actor Returns in Upcoming 'Revival' Video Game
Image
Gamers get ready to reunite with the original horror and sex icon, Pinhead. The original Pinhead actor from Clive Barker's demonically sultry horror franchise Hellraiser, Doug Bradley, is putting the pins back in. Well, virtually, that is. While Bradley has been open about how he is willing to reprise the head cenobite of horror author Barker's creation in live action under the right conditions, the actor is officially back in the leather and chain saddle for an upcoming video game release. Saber Interactive and Boss Team Games recently released a gory announcement trailer, and an even gorier Red Band version, for Clive Barker’s Hellraiser: Revival, a new single-player game coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC.

Bradley is officially back for a new entry into Pinhead's twisted adventures. The new story-driven action survival horror game will allow players to open the box of painful nightmares, and summon...

Saber Interactive’s Hellraiser: Revival Could Be Resident Evil’s First Real Threat in Years
Image
Resident Evil franchise has been dominating the gaming scene, and Capcom is already working on a sequel. Even, we’ve seen Silent Hill franchise is moving in the same direction with their upcoming games. However, that isn’t enough to scare Capcom just yet.

This time, the story of dominance is shifting for good. It has been confirmed that Saber Interactive is working on Hellraiser: Revival. The best part about this announcement is that it doesn’t want to hold back on the horror factor. If you’re a fan of horror games, this might come as really good news.

Silent Hill franchise kind of manages to hold similar expectations of true horror. But only time can tell whether it could surpass such expectations. Regardless, Saber Interactive enters the boxing ring of terror. Only the best may remain here.

Doug Bradley is reprising Pinhead role in exciting new Hellraiser project
Image
Horror games based on popular movie franchises have become a special niche in the video game industry—especially those that try to replicate Dead By Daylight's formula and success, to middling results.

In Dead By Daylight, human players attempt to escape a torture arena where a killer player hunts down the survivors like cat and mouse. Humans have scarce tools at their disposal, whilst the killer has nigh-infinite potential to make the survivors' lives miserable. Games that have tried to capture this lightning in a bottle include Friday the 13th, Evil Dead: The Game, Resident Evil: Resistance, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, and probably more we've never heard of. Game publishers have become obsessed with trying to conjure a money-printing machine.

New story-driven Hellraiser video game announced

It's a wonderful surprise nowadays that any promising single-player experience is announced—a respectable, memorable one at that. So it's incredibly exciting...

Hellraiser: Revival video game brings Doug Bradley back as Pinhead
Image
Doug Bradley became a horror icon through his performance as the Cenobite known as Pinhead in the 1987 Clive Barker classic Hellraiser, a role he would reprise in seven sequels before stepping away from the franchise. Twenty years have gone by since Bradley last played Pinhead in a Hellraiser movie – but now, Saber Interactive and Boss Team Games have brought him back to the role for the video game Hellraiser: Revival, which will be coming to PC via Steam, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X and S.

Hellraiser: Revival is described as being a “story-driven, single-player survival horror action game set in the Hellraiser universe. Here’s the announcement trailer, which debuted on IGN:

Clive Barker helped craft the story for the video game and provided the following statement: “Working on the first true Hellraiser game has been a venture deep into the recesses of my darkest imaginings. The dedication that...

Iconic Horror Franchise Reveals A Terrifying New Chapter Is On Its Way
Image
Iconic horror franchises have proven time and again that they are ripe for video game adaptations. The sadly short-lived Friday the 13th game was a lot of fun, and games like Alien: Isolation have done a good job recreating the atmosphere of their source material. Now, another well-known horror franchise will be joining these ranks with what looks to be an exciting new entry into the series.

Aside from a Dead by Daylight crossover, this is the first time this famous horror series will be adapted into a video game. That isn't for lack of trying, as there have been several canceled projects in the past. However, it looks as though we will be finally getting the game this fan-favorite franchise deserves.

Saber Interactive’s Cryptic New Trailer Hints at a Hellraiser Game in Development
Image
It seems like Saber Interactive isn’t going to slow down anytime soon. Ever since the success of Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2 late last year, the studio has been super active in the developer sphere, and now, we have something new. The studio already has many irons in the fire, but it seems like it has added another one.

The studio just released a new teaser video with eerie imagery, ominous sounds, and the unmistakable voice of Pinhead, and of course, our first guess is that a Hellraiser video game may be in the works. The teaser also has a countdown for what could be a possible reveal. The big date that we’re now waiting for is July 22.

Saber Interactive Is Cooking up Something, and We’ll Find Out on July 22

The teaser was shared across Saber Interactive’s social media channels and even has a dedicated countdown website,...

Soundtrack Mix #35 | Frozen in Flux: Chris Cunningham
Image
Chris Cunningham is an embodiment of a time and place, of 1990s and early 2000s British underground cool, a moment when avant-garde art forms and personalities were enmeshed with the overground mainstream. Pop culture at large was still up for getting weird and transgressive, even during primetime, and commercials and promo videos were full of libido and artistry (just think of iconoclasts like Chris Morris and music-video talents like Hype Williams). When I was a teen, two DVD collections were pivotal to me. The first was Palm Pictures’ Directors Label series, which compiled the visionary commercial and music-video work of such directors as Cunningham, Williams, Spike Jonze, Michel Gondry, Mark Romanek, Jonathan Glazer, Anton Corbijn, and Stéphane Sednaoui, many of whom broke into feature filmmaking around the year 2000. The pipeline of working at an ad house, then making a promo, then directing a feature was a route to admire and...

15 Best Movies Like Get Out
Image
2017's "Get Out" is one of the great feature film debuts in modern history, if not all of filmdom. Jordan Peele, best known up to that time as a comedic writer and performer, shocked the world with a socially-minded horror-thriller about a Black man named Chris (Daniel Kaluuya) who visits the parents of his white girlfriend Rose (Allison Williams) and discovers a terrifying conspiracy. It was a colossal box office hit, won an Oscar, and was recently named the eighth-best film of the 21st century by the New York Times.

Whether you've recently experienced "Get Out" for the first time or have revisited the sunken place on multiple occasions, we've got a collection of similar films to scratch that particular itch. Some are explicit comments on the ills of our world, others are darkly comedic horrors willing to dive into the grotesque, and all will take you on a wild ride.

The 10 Best Horror Video Games in the First Half of 2025
Image
Distressing as it may be for us to acknowledge the exponential march of time, we’re now halfway through 2025. And for whatever else it’s brought, one thing that can’t be denied about the year so far is that it has been absolutely stacked with phenomenal horror (or horror adjacent) releases.

In fact, we’re already struggling to whittle down our top 10 picks, and there’s still a new Silent Hill, a new Bloober Team project, and another installment in The Dark Pictures Anthology lurking on the horizon! Suffice it to say, the competition is going to be fierce when the time comes for us to compile our definitive list in December, and some objectively brilliant titles just won’t be able to make the cut.

Before we have to make any of those tough calls, though, here are our current favourites that have made it through the first round of eliminations.

The Dark Fantastic (2025) Review
Image
The Dark Fantastic is an intimate and enthralling look at the vast career of acclaimed film composer Simon Boswell, an amazing musician who has created music for so many films, particularly in the horror and fantasy genres.

He was responsible for an audio spectrum, from Demons 2, Graveyard Disturbance and Phenomena to Hardware and Perdita Durango, as well as cult classics like Shallow Grave, Hackers and The Crying Game. Throughout his career Boswell has worked with the legendary likes of Lamberto Bava, Dario Argento and Clive Barker and has constantly created vast and compelling music for the films that they feature in. The Dark Fantastic tells the entire story of his career through both music and film.

Far from being a standard documentary where film clips are interspersed with interviews, The Dark Fantastic contains continuous live performances of music that Boswell has created, with details about the particular films and the making of them.

Medical Mayhem: 5 Horror Movies to Watch After ‘Pins and Needles’
Image
The human body is a marvel of a machine. Complex and delicate, layers of finely tuned systems work tirelessly to maintain, sustain and create life. Though no two bodies are exactly alike, all require some level of maintenance and, whether we like it or not, all possess an expiration date. It is here in the cold, sterile glow of these facts that the sub-genre of medical horror operates, preying on our deepest fears around organic decay and malevolent medical professionals.

These fears are placed front and center in James Villeneuve‘s debut film, Pins and Needles. In the movie, Chelsea Clark (Ginny & Georgia) stars as Max, a biology grad student and diabetic. On her drive back to campus from a field research site, Max becomes trapped at the home of two murderous biohackers where her safety and insulin supplies quickly begin to run dry. Movies like Pins and Needles weaponize our bodies,...

George R.R. Martin: This 95% Rt Score Guillermo del Toro Masterpiece Is One of the Greatest Fantasy Films Ever Made

A master in the fantasy genre, George R.R. Martin knows a good story when he sees one—and he believes Guillermo del Toro’s 2006 movie Pan’s Labyrinth is one of the greatest movies ever. A long-time fan and dream collaborator of the Mexican filmmaker, Martin is in awe of the vivid and disturbing visuals presented in the dark fantasy film.

Revealing his top ten favorite movies of all time, the renowned author shared via The Daily Beast his must-watch movies, ranking Pan’s Labyrinth in the eighth spot. Praising the director and the cast members, Martin also emphasized how the creatures were like no one he has ever seen before:

Del Toro’s visual style is as vivid and disturbing as it is unique. His fairies are about as far from Tinkerbell as one can get, his faun is a creature like none we have ever seen before, and his eyeless...

The Biggest Scare In Jaws Was Literally Filmed In A Swimming Pool
Image
Every movie fan has core memories of the moments they were truly scared by movies growing up. For me, watching classic horror movie flop "Nightbreed" at age 10 probably wasn't the best idea. Witnessing an entire family slain by some wretched hellspawn before seeing a man cut his own face off and grip chunks of his own flesh while being subdued by hospital staff is now forever etched in my cortex. But before I scarred my young mind for good with Clive Barker's nasty little horror fantasy — and before I even knew what a horror movie was — Steven Spielberg provided my, and an entire generation's, first major movie scare.

In fact, he managed to provide a whole slate of scares with 1975's "Jaws." So effective at upsetting audiences was this inaugural blockbuster that an early screening of "Jaws" had one audience member vomiting. By the time I was a kid in the early '90s,...

‘The Dark Fantastic’ to Dazzle Raindance Audiences
Image
Cosmic Buzz Films is set to ignite the Raindance Film Festival with the UK premiere of The Dark Fantastic on 26 June. Directed by Dutch multidisciplinary artist Lg White, this hallucinatory music documentary plunges into the mind and work of cult British composer Simon Boswell. Best known for his groundbreaking scores on over 150 films, Boswell has long been a defining voice in horror and fantasy cinema. Now, under White’s colourful lens, his story unfolds in an audiovisual trip that promises to be unlike any concert or documentary you’ve ever seen.

Shot across landmark venues and feature film sets, The Dark Fantastic weaves together archive footage, live performances and contributions from icons such as Iggy Pop, Dolly Parton and Ewan McGregor. Boswell’s own reflections on his journey – from composing in Chopin and Mozart styles as a child to crafting apocalyptic soundscapes for Lord of Illusions and Hardware – anchor the film.

James Cameron's New Horror Movie Announcement Has Us Asking One Question
Image
If there's one lesson we've learned over the course of the last 40-odd years of cinema, it's to never bet against James Cameron. There were bets against him when the maverick filmmaker took on the "Titanic," and again when he insisted on building the imaginative and lush alien world of "Avatar" a decade later. In both instances, Cameron's ventures not only succeeded, but made him a king of Hollywood cinema.

"Avatar" is currently two movies deep into a planned five-movie saga, but now it looks like Cameron will be taking a detour after "Avatar: Fire and Ash." As the filmmaker himself announced in a press release via his Facebook page today, Cameron's company, Lightstorm Entertainment, has acquired the rights to author Joe Abercrombie's latest novel, "The Devils." That novel was literally just published on May 13, but it's already built up quite a bit of buzz, even leaving Cameron's interest aside.

33 Years Ago, ‘Final Destination Bloodlines’ Star Tony Todd Put Real Bees in His Mouth for a Legendary $25M Horror Movie Scene
Image
Before he was the eerie voice of Final Destination’s coroner, Tony Todd was already deep in horror legend status thanks to a scene that most actors today wouldn’t dare replicate. 33 years ago in Candyman, the late actor actually let real bees crawl around in his mouth for that infamous $25M flick. No CGI. No fancy tricks.

And now, with Final Destination: Bloodlines bringing him back into the genre limelight one last time, it’s crazy to think his horror royalty title was sealed with wings and stingers.

Tony Todd took the sting for Candyman’s creepiest scene Tony Todd in a still from Final Destination | Credits: New Line Cinema

33 years before Final Destination: Bloodlines, Tony Todd pulled off one of horror’s most legendary flexes by letting real bees crawl out of his mouth in Candyman.

That 1992 scene where Candyman bares his ribcage of bees and kisses Helen was totally real.

Constantine (2005) – What Happened to This Horror Movie?
Image
You know what sounds like a hard sell to a Hollywood studio? A chain smoking antihero with a bad attitude and terminal lung cancer whom God himself doesn’t like. Dipping in and out of actual Hell. Where, by the way, Satan can’t wait to torture him for eternity. Oh, and it’s a large-ish budget superhero movie based on a DC/Vertigo comic. It’s a road that would include lawsuits, a music video director, a comic book creator who would rather leave free money on the table than be involved, and the MPAA gumming up the works. But where there’s a Keanu Reeves….there’s a way. This is what happened to Constantine.

The origins of Constantine began in June of 1986 when famed comic creator Alan Moore introduced him in The Saga of Swamp Thing #37. The occult investigator from England was on the hunt for information...

Stranger Things: How Vecna Draws Chilling Inspiration From These Iconic Horror Villains
Image
The Horror Villains That May Have Shaped Stranger Things’ Vecna ( Photo Credit – Netflix )

Back in 2022, Stranger Things Season 4 dropped a real monster. This one was not just any creature from the Upside Down; it had serious horror roots. Fans met Vecna, the vine-wrapped villain who creeped through Hawkins like a nightmare. But if you looked closely, he felt oddly familiar. And no, it wasn’t déjà vu. Vecna is a walking tribute to horror legends, stitched together with precision and love for the genre’s golden age.

The most obvious influence? Freddy Krueger. Yep, the dream-haunting slasher from Wes Craven’s A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984). Vecna didn’t just resemble Freddy with his shredded skin and twisted mind games, but practically mirrored him. Both went after teens, attacked them inside their heads, and delivered kills that looked straight out of a fever dream. Remember Chrissy’s levitating death? That...

Bradley Cooper’s Only Horror Film Is Deeply Disturbing—And It’s Streaming For Free
Kevin Bacon
Plenty of A-listers have gotten their start in the world of horror, from Kevin Bacon in Friday the 13th to Jennifer Aniston in Leprechaun. But did you know that Bradley Cooper also starred in a horror film early in his acting career? He plays the lead role in Ryûhei Kitamura’s 2008 film Midnight Meat Train, an adaptation of Clive Barker’s 1984 short story of the same name.

In the film,

A struggling photographer meets the owner of an eminent art gallery in pursuit of a successful career. His obsession with uncovering humanity’s dark side as his debut project draws him to a serial killer who preys on late-night subway commuters.

Cooper plays that struggling photographer who quite literally goes into the belly of the beast searching for a new subject to impress his rich benefactor. I promise you have no idea where this film is going, and it is one wild ride.

Excited for ‘Clown in a Cornfield’? Here Are 6 Other Horror Movies You May Not Have Known are Also Based on Books!
Image
Tales of masked killers and man-eating mutants are more associated with the world of film than literature, but if the success of horror writers like Stephen King and Clive Barker has taught us anything, it’s that a good story can transcend the limitations of a single medium. That’s why there are so many popular adaptations in the horror genre, with some of the most popular scary movies of all time having been based on existing short stories and novels.

With Eli Craig’s Clown in a Cornfield bringing Adam Cesare’s 2020 novel to the big screen this Friday, we’ve decided to come up with a list celebrating six horror movies that you may not have known were also adapted from books!

For the purposes of this list, we’ll be focusing on films with lesser-known literary origins, so you shouldn’t expect to see classics like Jaws,...

Religious Horror ‘Thorns’ Doesn’t Live Up to Its Inspirations [Review]
Image
I’ll keep watching new Final Destination movies as long as they keep making them, but I’m personally much more supportive of heartfelt rip-offs than officially licensed sequels. After all, Star Wars began as a loving homage to the Flash Gordon serials, and even the long-running Friday the 13th series was originally meant to cash in on the slasher thrills of John Carpenter’s Halloween. However, these new properties ended up iterating on the stories that inspired them instead of simply regurgitating their tropes ad nauseum, and that’s why they’re so beloved today.

With that in mind, I think it’s about time for a modern filmmaker to properly remix the psychosexual scares of Hellraiser into something new. While there are quite a few enjoyable sequels in the fan-favorite series, Clive Barker’s diminishing involvement should be interpreted as a sign that it might be time to move on.

The Canceled Hellraiser Prequel That Would Have Cast A Dark Knight Actor As Pinhead
Image
The "Hellraiser" movies, which originate from Clive Barker's "The Hellbound Heart" novella, have inflicted legendary suffering on their victims for almost 40 years. In that time, the franchise has traveled everywhere from New York City to medieval France to even outer space. Regardless of the location, however, one thing remains constant: The Hell Priest, aka Pinhead, and the Cenobites have such great sights to show anyone bold (or merely careless) enough to summon them using the Lament Configuration (a puzzle box with hellish powers).

In the original 1987 "Hellraiser" film, Frank Cotton (Sean Chapman) sets in motion the chain of events that befall his family at the hands of the Cenobites. However, all we learn about Frank is that he acquired the puzzle box, got punished, escaped from Hell, and rekindled an affair with his brother's wife while she delivered blood sacrifices to restore him. The time between him finding the...

Salem Horror Fest 2025 Opening Night Raises Hell with Ashley Laurence [Event Report]
Image
“America is the final girl, and I hope she survives.”

Salem Horror Fest‘s eighth annual event kicked off last night at Salem’s Peabody Essex Museum, and festival manager Leslie Adams‘ brief opening statement — which concluded with the above quote — assured attendees that the event remains steadfast in its mission to cultivate a safe, inclusive, and fun community for genre fans.

This year’s festival is the first under the new leadership of Horror Arts Collective — formed by legacy staff members in the wake of founder Kay Lynch stepping down last year — but the team upholds the ethos instilled by Lynch, who cheered on her successors from the front row like a proud mom.

The new guard also upheld the tradition of kicking off with a memorable opening night headlined by a horror icon, with Hellraiser‘s Ashley Laurence serving as this year’s guest of honor. Media personality...

Until Dawn © Sony Pictures

Francis Ford Coppola Announces ‘Megalopolis’ Graphic Novel
Image
Francis Ford Coppola isn’t done with “Megalopolis.” After Quentin Tarantino wrote a novel version of his “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” feature (which is now getting a sequel from David Fincher), Coppola has announced that he is turning his 2024 film “Megalopolis” into a graphic novel.

The book will be written by Chris Ryall, who has adapted Stephen King, Clive Barker, and Harlan Ellison’s works as well. Coppola explains that while it’s inspired by the film, it will be much more than that.

“I was pleased to put the idea of a graphic novel in the competent hands of Chris Ryall with the idea that, although it was inspired by my film ‘Megalopolis,’ it didn’t necessarily have to be limited by it,” Coppola said in a statement to THR. “I hoped the graphic novel would take its own flight, with its own artists and writer so...

Francis Ford Coppola's 2024 Box Office Bomb Is Already Getting Remade, But in an Unexpected Way
Image
While some, or most, viewers left Francis Ford Coppola's latest film thinking they had just wasted two hours and 18 minutes of their free time, Coppola is doubling down on his divisive film. Megalopolis was nothing short of a wake-up call for the Apocalypse Now director, but instead of taking the time to think about why his 2024 film wasn't everyone's cup of tea, the director is retaliating against his recent Razzie win for Worst Director and throwing himself into making a sister story to the polarizing film. However, this time, viewers don't have to grapple with off-putting CGI.

The star-studded film received a hearty seven-minute standing ovation at its debut at Cannes, so imagine Coppola's surprise when wider audiences were displeased. Now, Coppola has announced that he will be taking his unappreciated story to print in a comic titled, Megalopolis: An Original Graphic Novel. In collaboration with writer Chris Ryall,...

Francis Ford Coppola partners with Chris Ryall and That Texas Blood artist Jacob Phillips for a Megalopolis graphic novel
Image
Francis Ford Coppola is doubling down on the perplexing Sci-Fi epic Megalopolis with a graphic novel adaptation of his original head-scratching story. Coppola famously spent decades dreaming of Megalopolis and used tens of millions of his money to fund the project’s production. Reactions to the film ranged from audiences saying it’s awful to “it’s so bad it’s good, like Leos Carax’s Annette.” Regardless of how you feel about Megalopolis, Coppola’s passion for the story of architect Cesar Catilina (Adam Driver) is admirable in its steadfast dedication to the premise.

The official synopsis for Megalopolis reads: “Megalopolis is a Roman Epic fable set in an imagined Modern America. The City of New Rome must change, causing conflict between Cesar Catilina, a genius artist who seeks to leap into a utopian, idealistic future, and his opposition, Mayor Franklyn Cicero, who remains committed to a regressive status quo,...

Francis Ford Coppola Unveils ‘Megalopolis’ Graphic Novel (Exclusive)
Image
Megalopolis was one of the big swings of 2024, with Oscar-winning filmmaker Francis Ford Coppola putting decades of his life into its development and betting tens of millions of his own money on a project that he hoped would become an enduring part of his legacy.

It told the story of an obsessive architect Cesar Catilina (Adam Driver), who wanted to create a utopian city, but finds himself at odds with Mayor Franklyn Cicero (Giancarlo Esposito). The film was polarizing, to say the least. It failed to light up the box office and earned mixed reviews, but it certainly sparked conversation, becoming one of the most talked about movies in Hollywood last year.

Now, the Godfather filmmaker’s work will get a re-interpretation with Francis Ford Coppola’s Megalopolis: An Original Graphic Novel.

Writer Chris Ryall penned the book, after building a career adapting the works of authors such as Stephen King,...

Sarah Michelle Gellar at an event for The 69th Annual Golden Globe Awards (2012)
Ready Or Not 2 | Sarah Michelle Gellar and David Cronenberg join the cast
Sarah Michelle Gellar at an event for The 69th Annual Golden Globe Awards (2012)
Sarah Michelle Gellar, Elijah Wood and David Cronenberg are said to be joining the cast of horror sequel Ready Or Not 2, subtitled Here I Come.

What do Buffy, Frodo Baggins and the master of body horror have in common? Apparently, it’s the forthcoming sequel Ready Or Not 2, better known to its creators as Ready Or Not: Here I Come.

Already in production, the follow-up to the blackly comic 2019 horror thriller is still building up its impressive cast. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the latest additions include Sarah Michelle Gellar, Elijah Wood and legendary filmmaker David Cronenberg.

They’ll be joining Ant-Man actor Kathryn Newton (who joined in March) and returning star Samara Weaving in the horror sequel, which is set to continue the story of Grace (Weaving) who suffers through one of the bloodiest wedding days imaginable. Filmmaking collective Radio Silence are back to direct, along with screenwriters Gary Busick and R Christopher Murphy.

‘The Flayed Man’ Is a Bite-Sized Freebie With a Lot of Meat on Its Bones [Review]
Image
It ought to go without saying, but you cannot grade all video games on the same bell curve.

What’s acceptable for a modestly budgeted indie, for instance, might not pass muster in the Aaa arena. Meanwhile, those working on lucrative franchise IPs —beholden to micromanaging financiers and the whims of shareholders who’ve never once picked up a controller in their lives — aren’t always afforded the creative autonomy that a solo developer enjoys when toiling away on a pet project in their kitchen. Of course, blockbuster productions do conversely benefit from being far better resourced, far better staffed and far better promoted. So, there are pros and cons!

Price point is another thing that often factors into the equation and should absolutely be taken into account if you’re hoping to give new releases a fair shake. After all, it’d be silly to pit a $70 Naughty Dog...

Gummy Zombies Attack in Clive Barker’s Animated Movie ‘Night of the Zoopocalypse’ [Review]
Image
For as much as people like to poke fun at kid-oriented genre productions these days, the fact is that there has never been a better time to be a child with an interest in horror. From less gruesome spin-offs like Jurassic World’s Chaos Theory to spooky PG-13 adaptations like Five Nights at Freddy’s, gateway horror is no longer limited to the dark corners of the Scholastic book fair. That’s also why we’ve been seeing some less-orthodox examples of the genre lately, such as Rodrigo Perez-Castro and Ricardo Curtis’s Night of the Zoopocalypse – an animated kids film produced by none other than Hellraiser creator, Clive Barker.

Barker is no stranger to kid-friendly fiction, having already published several fantasy novels as well as a handful of comic-books aimed towards children and young adults, but Zoopocalypse is the first major motion picture to be based on the author’s less disturbing work.

15 Books You Need To Read If You Love Stephen King
Image
So, you've binged all the Stephen King novels you could. You've watched "The Shawshank Redemption" and "Stand By Me." You're paying mild attention to Edgar Wright's upcoming reboot of "The Running Man," and you know Tom Hiddleston ("Loki") will be in "The Life of Chuck." You even tried Max's "Salem's Lot" revival series. That didn't work out too well, huh? Well, we tried to warn you that these vamps were missing their fangs.

King has an approachable, easy-reading style that lets almost any reader rip through his imaginative horrors and his darkest fantasies at the pace of a cherry-red Plymouth Fury. Tony Todd Pitched A Fascinating Candyman Sequel That Never Made It To The Screen
Image
Bernard Rose's 1992 horror classic "Candyman," an American reimagining of Clive Barker's short story "The Forbidden," was about an ambitious graduate student named Helen (Virginia Madsen) who trekked into Chicago's infamous building project at Cabrini Green to investigate an urban legend that had persisted there. It seems that the denizens believed in a ghostly killer called Candyman who would appear behind you if you said his name five times into a mirror. Helen finds, quite shockingly, that the Candyman (Tony Todd) is very real. He is the vengeful spirit of a murdered Black man, a son of a slave, killed by a white mob after the end of the Civil War. His body was burned on the site of the Cabrini Green projects, and he now haunts those who summon him.

"Candyman" is utterly terrifying, and the late Tony Todd is excellent in the role. He is menacing and sympathetic in turns.

How Bad Timing Got A Hellraiser Reboot Project Cancelled
Image
The mind of a hedonistic criminal is our entry point into Clive Barker's 1986 horror novella, "The Hellbound Heart." This man, Frank Cotton, acquires a puzzle box which, once solved, supposedly morphs into a portal to an extradimensional pleasure realm. However, when Frank solves the puzzle, frightening, sadomasochistic creatures emerge and subject him to the extremes of the pleasure-pain spectrum. After being captured by these beings (who call themselves Cenobites), Frank finds a way to escape, return to Earth, and seek new excesses of depravity involving his brother's wife and his niece.

Such is the premise of Barker's "Hellraiser," which brought "The Hellbound Heart" to life in vivid, uncompromising shades. This 1987 film — which quickly spawned a popular horror franchise — explores extremity and excess, why humans crave it, and how the Cenobites deal it out. Barker imbues these beings with greater moral ambiguity in the initial "Hellraiser" films, describing them as "demons to some,...
