Why Did Michael Bay Leave Transformers as Director Eyes Franchise Return?
Image
Explosive director Michael Bay is being alleged to return to the Transformers franchise after Paramount is scouting for a director to take the franchise in a newer direction. The director directed a total of five Transformers movies before walking out in the late 2010s.

However, it was initially the intention of the 6 Underground director to finish a trilogy and stop at three. According to Unilad, Steven Spielberg even advised him to stop after finishing three Transformers movies, but Paramount “begged” Bay to return and continue to direct more because of the profits that the studio was earning.

After five movies, Michael Bay felt burned out and tired and wanted a change of theme, which resulted in him walking out of the franchise. The Transformers movies were even facing low box office numbers, and Bay had to stop eventually.

I made too many of them. Steven Spielberg said, ‘Just stop at...

Brad Pitt, ‘Star Trek’ and a Possible Michael Bay Return: To-Do List for New Paramount’s Film Slate
Image
At first glance, the new Paramount has a 2026 slate that looks a little bare – only five films slated for release. But studio insiders told TheWrap on Thursday that three other films that are deep in post-production are on course for release in 2026.

The first is “Heart of the Beast,” a survival thriller from “Suicide Squad” director David Ayer starring Brad Pitt as an Army special forces vet who must survive in the Alaskan wilderness with his retired combat dog after a plane crash. Also starring J.K. Simmons and with Damien Chazelle as executive producer, it will mark Pitt’s first film since he set a new career high at the box office with Apple’s “F1.”

The other two films are a pair of horror projects from Paramount’s production deal with 18hz, the company founded by former DC Films chief Walter Hamada after his exit from the superhero label: “Primate,...

Michael Bay and Will Smith don’t see eye to eye, Bay leaves new film
Image
Michael Bay and Will Smith were set to make Fast And Loose – but creative differences have got in the way, and Bay has moved on.

They’ve worked together a couple of times before, but they’re not going to be working together anytime soon: Michael Bay and Will Smith have parted ways on their planned new project.

The pair, who first crossed paths on Bad Boys all those years ago, were due to make a new movie called Fast And Loose. This was being made with Netflix money, and the streamer has sent handsome cheques in the direction of both creatives previously. The plot of this one follows a man who wakes up, remembers how successful the Jason Bourne films were, and has no memory of who he is or how he got there.

It was first reported last October.

The script is the work of Jon Hoeber, Erich Hoeber,...

Fast and Loose: Before Michael Bay, Will Smith Parted Ways With Quentin Tarantino 13 Years Ago
Image
A confirmed report from The Hollywood Reporter tells us that Michael Bay has walked out of the production of the upcoming comedy/action movie Fast and Loose.

The movie, which is going to stream on Netflix upon release, is helmed by Will Smith and will talk about a mob boss who loses his memory in an accident. However, he slowly recovers his memories and recalls that he was actually leading a double life as a CIA operative.

THR previously reported that director David Leitch had also walked out of the production of Fast and Loose to start his work on The Fall Guy. Following Leitch’s exit, iconic director Michael Bay has also chosen to part ways with Will Smith over a “creative difference” between the two.

This isn’t the first time that Smith or Michael Bay have been in the news for walking out of a project. Will...

Michael Bay Eyes Explosive Return to His Most Successful Franchise, Reports Say
Image
Michael Bay is reportedly in talks with Paramount to return to direct a new Transformers movie, nearly eight years after stepping away from the franchise. According to Deadline, Bay’s comeback began quietly last year, initially as a producer, but those talks quickly grew into something bigger. Now, Bay is expected to take the director’s chair again, with Jordan VanDina writing the script.

This news comes as a surprise since Bay had previously said he was done directing Transformers films, especially after the disappointing box office results of 2017’s The Last Knight. Bay made it clear back then that he wouldn’t return.

But now, things have changed. Insider Matthew Belloni previously said the reunion happened because both Bay and Paramount need each other. The Transformers movies have struggled at the box office without Bay’s involvement, and Bay himself has faced difficulties getting his own projects moving. “It...

Michael Bay Considering Return to His Highest-Grossing Franchise, Reports Claim
Image
Michael Bay has spoken to Paramount about a return to the Transformers franchise, nearly eight years after stepping away from the director’s chair, according to Deadline.

A few weeks ago, rumors appeared that Bay is now working with Paramount again and is set to direct a brand-new Transformers film. The script will be written by Jordan VanDina, but not much else has been revealed yet.

This news comes as a surprise to many fans, especially since Bay had said before that he was done directing Transformers movies. After 2017’s The Last Knight didn’t do as well as expected, Bay made it clear he wouldn’t return. But now, that’s changed. Belloni says Bay’s return started quietly last year. At first, he was just going to be a producer. But soon, talks turned into something bigger, and he ended up back in the director’s seat.

Michael Bay Exits Netflix’s ‘Fast and Loose’ Over Creative Differences With Will Smith
Image
Michael Bay has exited “Fast and Loose,” an upcoming Netflix action movie that was meant to be a reunion of star Will Smith and the “Bad Boys” director, because Bay and Smith were unable to reconcile their creative differences TheWrap has learned.

The project, announced last fall, would follow Smith’s character, who wakes up without his memories. He eventually figures out that he was living two lives – as a crime lord and an undercover CIA agent. Jon Hoeber, Erich Hoeber, Chris Bremner and Eric Pearson wrote the script, based on an initial pitch from the Hoebers.

Smith is also a producer on the project with his Westbrook Studios, alongside Kelly McCormick and David Leitch for 87North. The movie was on track to start production in October, but will now be moved to 2026.

Michael Bay Exits Will Smith Netflix Action Movie 'Fast and Loose'
Image
The reunion of two of Hollywood’s biggest egos will have to wait, as Michael Bay and Will Smith have officially parted ways on the new Netflix film, Fast and Loose. Bay was set to direct the new action comedy that stars Smith, which would have been a Bad Boys reunion so to speak, as Bay directed the Fresh Prince in the first two movies in the franchise, but opted out of having anything to do with the two most recent films other than appearing in a brief cameo.

Per Deadline, the split comes after "creative differences" led to Bay's departure from the movie, meaning Netflix is now on the hunt for a new director for Fast and Loose, which is slated to begin production in October. Smith is still on board to star in the flick, which is penned by Jon Hoeber, Erich Hoeber, Chris Bremner and Eric Pearson.

Michael Bay Exits Will Smith's Latest Action Film, 'Fast and Loose'

Will Smith’s upcoming Bad Boys reunion has officially gone sour. After it was previously reported that Smith and original Bad Boys director Michael Bay were reuniting for Fast and Loose, an upcoming action thriller, news broke from Deadline today that Michael Bay has left the project. This is due to creative differences, but Smith is still attached to star in the film, which is now seeking another director. Fast and Loose stars Smith as a man who wakes up with no memories, only to discover he’s been living two lives, one as a drug kingpin and another as an undercover government agent. Jon and Erich Hoeber are still attached to write the script for the film, along with Chris Bremner and Eric Pearson. The film aims to begin filming in October.

Michael Bay Exits Will Smith's Fast and Loose Over Creative Differences
Image
Will Smith and Michael Bay are no longer reuniting for Fast and Loose. The film is set to star Smith as a man who wakes up in Tijuana only to discover that he has no memories. After piecing together his past bit by bit, he discovers that he has been living a double life as a crime kingpin and an undercover CIA agent.

Fast and Loose is based on a script written by Jon Hoeber, Erich Hoeber, Chris Bremner, and Eric Pearson. In October 2024, it was announced that Bay would be taking the director's chair for the action movie.

Per Deadline, Bay has left Fast and Loose over creative differences with Smith. According to the report, the film contains moments of both comedy and action, but the director-actor duo disagreed on the balance of these genres. Bay wanted to focus heavily on the action sequences, while Smith was more interested in the comedy.

Michael Bay Exits Will Smith's Netflix Action Film in Major Creative Shakeup
Image
Will Smith's upcoming action film has just experienced a major hiccup. His new Netflix film with a very long history, Fast and Loose, has just lost its director.

According to Deadline, Michael Bay, who was supposed to helm Fast and Loose, has just exited the project. The two were reportedly unable to "bridge creative differences." This led to Bay to exit, as the Transformers director reportedly wanted more emphasis on action, while Smith wanted to lean into the comedy bit of the film.

Fast and Loose follows Smith as "a man who wakes up in Tijuana with no memories. As he pieces together his past, he learns he’s been living two lives: one as a crime kingpin and the other as an undercover CIA agent." Jon Hoeber, Erich Hoeber, Chris Bremner, and Eric Pearson wrote the script for the previously Michael Bay-helmed action film.

Fast and Loose: Will Smith action film loses director Michael Bay
Will Smith at an event for Seven Pounds (2008)
Five years ago, it was announced that Will Smith would be teaming up with director David Leitch for an action film called Fast and Loose. Originally developed by STXfilms with Leitch attached as a producer, the project moved to the Netflix streaming service after Leitch moved into the director’s seat as well. But, as the years went by, Leitch decided to step back – and ten months ago, it was revealed that Smith would be reuniting with his Bad Boys and Bad Boys II director Michael Bay to bring Fast and Loose to the screen. Well, now plans have changed again. Deadline reports that Smith and Bay were “unable to bridge creative differences” they had over the project, so Bay has dropped out.

Netflix is now searching to find Fast and Loose‘s third and hopefully final director. They’re planning to get this thing into production in October, so...

Ben Affleck's Armageddon Is Quietly Dominating the Streaming Charts
Image
A new challenger has entered the Top 10 on MGM+. Ben Affleck's 1998 sci-fi disaster film Armageddon has arrived on the streaming charts.

According to FlixPatrol, as of Aug. 7, Armageddon is ranked No. 10 on MGM+'s Top 10 Overall chart in the United States. Much like the asteroid in the movie, Armageddon has burst onto the streaming chart and will now try to climb up the ranks as a worthy group of hit shows and movies try to stop its climb. First in Armageddon's path is Jason Statham's 2024 sleeper hit The Beekeeper at No. 9, followed by the fan-favorite '80s buddy cop movie Lethal Weapon at No. 8 and Jack Quaid's action-comedy Novocaine at No. 7. Luckily for Armageddon, Lethal Weapon and Novocaine are down from where they were yesterday, which suggests that they may be on their way off the streaming chart.

There's absolutely no doubt about the financial success of Universal's Jurassic World Rebirth. To enter this list, Rebirth had to take a dino-sized bite out of another movie with a similar critical reception to box office success ratio: Transformers. ‘The Pickup’ Review: What’s The Point Of Casting Eddie Murphy, Keke Palmer, & Pete Davidson?
Image
Nowadays, streaming has carved its own market and doesn’t exactly need to compete with theatrical releases to get the attention of the people. That said, back in the day, when it was still building its foundation by bringing in A-listers, their products used to have a certain level of quality that’d make audiences sit up and pay attention. I’m talking about movies like Okja, The Vast of Night, and Greyhound. However, some time during the pandemic, the attitude shifted towards using the popularity of the star cast to draw in people and then feed them slop in the name of “cinema,” thereby giving birth to terms like “slopbuster” or “mockbuster.” In my opinion, stuff like The Gray Man, The Tomorrow War, and Ghosted are the worst offenders. Now, having watched The Pickup, I think we are entering a new era of direct-to-streaming releases that aren’t even trying.

‘The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003)’ 4K Uhd Review (Arrow Video)
Image
Stars: Jessica Biel, Jonathan Tucker, Andrew Bryniarski, Erica Leerhsen, Mike Vogel, Eric Balfour, R. Lee Ermey, David Dorfman | Written by Scott Kosar | Directed by Marcus Nispel

Tobe Hooper forever changed the face of horror in 1974 with his film The Texas Chain Saw Massacre. It featured mixed reviews with Roger Ebert calling it a “weird, off-the-wall horror movie that’s really scary.” While The New York Times called it “despicable” and “a vile little piece of sick crap.” Whether you loved it or hated it, one thing was for sure: after watching it, you would never forget it!

In 2003, as the original horror film approached its 30th anniversary, producers Michael Bay and Mike Fleiss decided it was time to remake the film for a new generation. Now it’s hard to believe this remake is now over 20 years old, so it’s time for a UltraHD release thanks to Arrow Video.

Sci-Fi Fans Are Rediscovering Will Smith's Forgotten $589M Alien Blockbuster 28 Years Later
Image
Will Smith may have won an Oscar for his performance in 2021’s King Richard, but in the 1990s, the former Fresh Prince of Bel-Air actor solidified himself as a sci-fi powerhouse. A year after he fought aliens in 1996’s Independence Day, Smith once again found himself dealing with extraterrestrials in 1997’s Men in Black, which is now surging on streaming.

Men in Black, which also starred Tommy Lee Jones, Linda Fiorentino, Vincent D’Onofrio, Tony Shalhoub, and Rip Torn, is, as of Aug. 3, the No. 13 most-streamed movie on iTunes, according to FlixPatrol. The film is an adaptation of the Aircel Comics series The Men in Black, by Lowell Cunningham.

The sci-fi alien invasion movie comes from director Barry Sonnenfeld, who also directed Smith in 1999’s Wild Wild West, and the Men in Black sequels Men in Black II and Men in Black 3. Sonnenfeld also served as an executive producer on 2019’s Men in Black International,...

Will Smith’s Flop Action Comedy Might Be Aging Into a Cult Classic on Streaming After 22 Years
Image
Michael Bay‘s Bad Boys II, starring Will Smith and Martin Lawrence, became a critical disaster upon its release, and despite grossing over $273M (via The Numbers), nearly double that of the original, the movie failed to turn a profit. This had to do with its massive budget of $130M, which makes sense, as the movie looks and feels expensive, which is standard for any Bay production.

Although the movie never developed a strong following like some of Bay’s other works, including The Rock, its sheer insanity makes it the perfect contender for cult status, especially in the current era of streaming.

Michael Bay’s Unapologetic Approach To Bad Boys II Makes It a Cult Classic in the Making

Bad Boys II feels like a culmination of Michael Bay’s early years in the realm of blockbusters, as all of his tropes, whether it’s the over-the-top comedy, the low-angle shots,...

'Ransom Canyon' Star's Iconic Franchise-Starting Sci-Fi Film Is Quitely Dominating Streaming 23 Years Later
Image
The first Transformersmovie is making a surprise comeback on streaming. Josh Duhamel and Shia Labeouf’s 2007 action-packed blockbuster has climbed back into the Top 10 charts on Disney+ and Paramount+ in several countries, per FlixPatrol. This was the film that kicked off Michael Bay’s wild, explosion-filled franchise and introduced a whole new generation to Autobots and Decepticons.

Critics were lukewarm towards the film upon its release, reflected in its 57% score on Rotten Tomatoes. But audiences have always embraced the Transformers films, and this one holds a strong 85% audience score. Last week, Bay’s Transformers movies landed on Disney+ in select regions, and it looks like nostalgia is bringing them back into the spotlight. Streaming is full of big action franchises, but not many bring the kind of chaos and fun that Transformers does. The Disney+ lineup mostly sticks to Marvel and Star Wars, and those are great, but they come with homework.

Unfortunately, it grossed only $173 million globally against a $138 million budget, leaving it short of its break-even point.

Gemini Man is, unfortunately, not streaming anywhere in the United States, but the film is available to rent or purchase on VOD for a reasonable price.

Transformers, Edge of Tomorrow, and Now Man of Steel: The Top 3 End Credit Sequences Ever
Image
In the realm of banger closing sequences, no movie can top these 3 classics: Transformers, Edge of Tomorrow, and Man of Steel. Fitted with some of pop culture’s most defining soundtracks, the end-credit scores of these three films not only elevated the movies but also changed our brain chemistry forever.

Soundtracks have always played an intrinsic and essential role in setting the right tone for a movie or a show. A simple background music can build tension, land a punchline, make a joke funnier, and a tragedy more poignant.

And these 3 films understood the assignment better than most with their epic choice in needle drops.

1 Year Later, Will Smith’s 96% Rotten Tomatoes Action Movie Still Has Fans Flocking to Watch It
Image
It’s been a quiet year thus far for Will Smith, but the most recent flick in his legendary filmography is still finding success on streaming a year later. Smith stars alongside Martin Lawrence and Vanessa Hudgens in Bad Boys: Ride or Die, the fourth installment in his hit action comedy series, following Mike and Marcus as they embark on a dangerous mission to clear their former captain, who has been linked to drug cartels. Bad Boys: Ride or Die is currently streaming on Netflix in the United States, but globally, it’s one of the most popular movies to stream in countries such as Mongolia, Salvador, and more. The film earned 65% from critics but a “Verified Hot” 96% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes, and it grossed $404 million globally against a $100 million budget.

The first Bad Boys movie premiered in 1995, and eight years later, its sequel arrived in theaters. Michael Bay...

Sony’s Josh Greenstein In Talks To Join Paramount Under New Skydance
Image
In what has been rumored for months, Sony Pictures Motion Picture Group President Josh Greenstein is in talks to go to the new Paramount-Skydance company in an undefined role.

We heard this back over Oscar weekend that he was sitting down with buddy David Ellison, however, nothing official could happen in terms of papering a deal as the merger wasn’t tied up with a bow. Now that the FCC has cleared the merger, it’s Ok for Greenstein to enter talks with the new Ellison-operated entertainment conglom. The $8 billion merger becomes official August 7.

I understand Sony is bracing for this change-up with Greenstein’s exit, with succession plans afoot in the development division. Greenstein, though long known for his marketing prowess, was promoted to Motion Picture Group co-president with Sanford Panitch in 2019, overseeing development, business affairs and distribution. For the last six and half years, Greenstein has been...

10 Reasons Why Helldivers 2 Is The Best Co-op Game You Can Buy Right Now
Image
We all remember when Helldivers 2 launched all the way back in February 2024 and instantly took the gaming world by storm. However, then came the controversies and pointless decisions by Sony and Arrowhead Game Studios that tanked the title’s reputation. Those Steam review bombings called it the end of Helldivers 2.

But against all odds, Helldivers 2 managed to make a surprise comeback and is now leading the charge in the co-op genre. Seriously, we’ve looked through every single co-op game, and not a single title comes close to the greatness of Helldivers 2. So, what makes this game so special? Well, let’s take a look at 10 reasons why this democracy spreading campaign shooter is one of the best co-op games to grab right now.

10. Immersive Experience

Let’s get this out of the way: Helldivers 2 is one of the most immersive co-op experiences we’ve ever played. Not a single...

‘How to Train Your Dragon’ Overtakes the Transformers Bomb that Michael Bay Regrets Making
Image
It has been observed that family films tend to keep performing at the box office even after they’ve been released on the PVOD market. Recently, Lilo & Stitch and How to Train Your Dragon — both remakes of classic animated films — proved this theory. They’ve grossed over $1.6 billion in combined box office revenue, with Lilo & Stitch having made over $1 billion alone. Now in its seventh week of release, How to Train Your Dragonpassed what will probably be its final major box office milestone, seeing as it’s available on home video, and is losing theaters every week.

With nearly $260 million domestically and another $349 million from overseas markets, How to Train Your Dragon’s cumulative global haul now stands at $605 million. This weekend, the blockbuster film overtook the lifetime global haul of Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa, and Daniel Craig’s first two films as James Bond: Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace.

Walter Hamada
One way to make a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin film
Walter Hamada
In April 2024, The Hollywood Reporter broke the news that film producer Walter Hamada and Paramount Pictures would be developing a film based on Idw Publishing’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin. In the live-action movie realm, the turtles have had varying levels of success.

In the 1990s, the original trilogy started hot, but fell in popularity, drastically so by the time Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III came around. Thanks to an explosive popularity due to the 1987 animated series, this was many people’s introduction to the reptilian quartet.

However, aside from animation, the turtles hadn’t been in the flesh, so to speak, for over two decades. Thanks to Michael Bay and a team of directors, screenwriters, and producers, the pizza-loving shellshockers were back. Well, just in 2014 and 2016, as the Turtles’ designs and the plots proved unpopular with certain fans.

Of course, the Turtles have found life in animation.

How To Watch The Bad Boys Movies In Order
Image
Michael Bay's 1995 film "Bad Boys" took its title from the 1987 reggae song of the same name, performed by the Jamaican band Inner Circle. The song was used as the theme song for the overwhelmingly popular docudrama TV series "Cops" beginning in 1989, a series about uniform-wearing, on-duty police officers responding to calls. The series began on Fox and ran on that network until 2013. Paramount bought the franchise and continued to run it through 2020. After that, it was picked up by the right wing channel Fox Nation. Thanks to "Cops," Inner Circle's "Bad Boys" is now inextricably associated with the police, even though the song itself isn't expressly a pro-police polemic. "Bad boys, bad boys, whatcha gonna do, whatcha gonna do when then come for you?" As a police anthem, it sounds threatening.

Bay's "Bad Boys" movies used Inner Circle's song as their themes as well, and the franchise's lead characters,...

‘Ick’ Director Joseph Kahn Is Tired of Being Head of the Curve
Image
Even if you don’t know who Joseph Kahn is, you’ve seen one of his music videos.

Since getting into the business in the early 1990s, he has directed nearly 200 videos for some of the industry’s biggest stars – everyone from Willie Nelson to Backstreet Boys to U2 to Taylor Swift. Eminem’s “Without Me” clip? That was Kahn. Janet Jackson’s “Doesn’t Really Matter?” Also Kahn. Britney Spears’ “Womanizer?” Well, you get the picture.

Typically, a director as talented and prolific as Kahn would transition to an equally lucrative career in feature films, just as countless have done before him – people like Michael Bay, David Fincher, Spike Jonze and Antoine Fuqua.

But Kahn’s output as a feature director has been frustratingly few and far between. His fourth film in 20 years, “Ick,” oozes into 800 theaters nationwide on July 27, 28 and 29, as part of a Fathom Events special presentation.

Transformers & G.I. Joe Crossover Movie Gets Uncertain Update From Star
Image
The Transformers and G.I. Joe crossover movie receives an uncertain update from one of its stars. The latest Transformers movie, 2023's Rise of the Beasts, introduces Anthony Ramos as Noah Diaz, an ex-military electronics expert who, in 1994, joins forces with the Autobots and Maximals to protect a powerful relic called the Transwarp Key from the evil Terrorcons.

During Transformers: Rise of the Beasts' ending, Noah is invited to join a secret military organization known as G.I. Joe, seemingly setting up a crossover. A G.I. Joe and Transformers crossover movie is officially in development, with Chris Hemsworth reportedly in talks to star. However, its status remains uncertain for various reasons.

Speaking with ScreenRant's Liam Crowley ahead of The Bad Guys 2's release, Anthony Ramos shared an uncertain update on the status of the Transformers and G.I. Joe crossover movie. The star says he doesn't know much about the crossover movie,...

Warner Bros. Didn’t Bother to Call Tim Burton About Directing ‘Beetlejuice 3’
Image
Beetlejuice, the story of a pale gothy teen who’s terrorized by a pale gothy adult, just might just be the Tim Burton-iest thing that Tim Burton ever Tim Burton-ed into the world. So would Warner Bros. really make another movie about the “Ghost with the Most” without him?

For a long time, there was no sequel to Burton’s original 1988 blockbuster, with the exception of the beloved animated series and the Universal Studios stage show in which Beetlejuice belted out Kiss covers with the help of Frankenstein and the Wolf Man.

But last year, Burton reteamed with most members of theoriginal cast who weren’t convicted of horrific crimes for the sequel Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. And it was a huge hit, making more than $450 million at the box office.

Given the movie’s financial success, another Beetlejuice sequel seemed almost inevitable. Plus, the title certainly suggested that a third...

The Hottest Women of the Friday the 13th Franchise
Image
The Friday the 13th franchise has no doubt provided us with some of the most beautiful women in horror, and today we’re here to salute the best of the best in no particular order. But I know what you’re thinking. This isn’t going to be some perverted, slack-jawed, drool-fest. We’re here to celebrate these survivors and victims in all their glory. To champion and appreciate their victories over that big, smelly monster truck of a murderer or, in some cases, their horrific demise at his hands. These are the hottest women of the Friday the 13th franchise. Starting with Pamela Voorhees herself. Just kidding. We just wanted to piss Jason off.

Brenda was hired by creepy Steve Christy to help out at Camp Blood. She was a light reader with good hygiene, though I will say she had terrible taste in lingerie,...

Desperado Turns 30: How Well Has Salma Hayek’s Breakout Western Aged?
Image
Desperado was released in August 1995 and emerged as a commercial success, proving to be a breakout hit for Salma Hayek and launching director Robert Rodriguez to the forefront of the 1990s action scene. Despite mixed reviews, the movie remains surprisingly refreshing even after three decades for a few good reasons.

The movie is the second installment in Rodriguez’s Mexico trilogy, featuring the same unnamed character as his low-budget indie actioner El Mariachi, albeit with Antonio Banderas taking over the role. Like its predecessor, the movie was mostly filmed in Mexico and has aged well after thirty years. Here is why Desperado remains entertaining even after three decades.

The One Reason Salma Hayek’s Desperado Has Aged Well Even After 30 Years

Desperado, starring Antonio Banderas and Salma Hayek in the lead roles, was released on August 25, 1995. It emerged as a box office hit, grossing roughly $25 million against a production budget...

The Expendables Movies Ranked
Image
When I turned 15, I developed a sudden compulsion to watch every 1980s and '90s action movie I could get my hands on -- not just the "Rambo" and "Terminator" films or the "RoboCop" and "Predator" movies, but also "Die Hard," "Commando," "TimeCop," and even "Cobra." The campier, the better. So, you can imagine what a delight it was to learn that the stars of all these ridiculous classics were joining forces for a throwback action flick in 2010.

I loved "The Expendables" then, and I love "The Expendables" now, but let's be honest; The franchise has been bad as often as it's been good. And even when it's good, it's that roll-your-eyes-and-laugh kind of good. Daring? Certainly. It takes a certain brazenness to throw Sylvester Stallone, Dolph Lundgren, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Mickey Rourke, Bruce Willis, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jean-Claude Van Damme, and Chuck Norris into a blender so many years...

The Ben Affleck Sci-Fi Movie That Bradley Cooper Missed Out On
Image
Bradley Cooper continues to be omnipresent on the big screen, but even for the A-lister, the road has been bumpy on occasion. Cooper didn't think he would land his game-changing "The Hangover" role in 2009, and he might have completely quit acting if it weren't for Paul Thomas Anderson's 2021 film "Licorice Pizza."

The actor/filmmaker's first screen role was a 1999 guest star turn on "Sex and the City," which was by no means a small accomplishment considering the show's popularity at the time. However, Cooper originally aimed for loftier things. In fact, had the multi-hyphenate had his way, he would have scored the role of A.J. Frost (ultimately played by Ben Affleck) in Michael Bay's 1998 sci-fi disaster film "Armageddon." In a 2013 interview with NPR's Terry Gross, Cooper described his early DIY audition processes:

"There would be calls for, I remember, 'The Patriot' for the Heath Ledger role,...

Why The I Am Number Four Franchise Was Canceled
Image
Adapting young adult fiction has been a reliable approach for Hollywood, especially in a post-"Twilight" world. That stupid lightning in a bottle phenomenon gave rise to multiple imitators, whether it was books or adaptations of those books — some of which were more successful than others. 2011's "I Am Number Four" was one of the less successful examples.

Directed by D.J. Caruso, the science-fiction action film was based on the 2010 novel of the same name. The book itself was written by Pittacus Lore (a collective pseudonym for authors James Frey and Jobie Hughes) and represented the inaugural Lorien Legacies novel in what is a seven-novel series that has also produced multiple spin-off and sequel series. Even before the book eventually became a hit, though, a bidding war had erupted for the film rights. In June 2009, J. J. Abrams faced off against Steven Spielberg and Michael Bay for a shot at adapting the property,...

What Matt Damon Thinks About His Mean Team America: World Police Parody
Image
Trey Parker's controversial 2004 puppet film "Team America: World Police" is a spoof of many things. Foremost, it's a satire of the George W. Bush administration, an administration that was all too eager to start wars all over the world, setting up the United States as, yes, the world's police. Just as much, though, "Team America" is a spoof of Michael Bay and his tendencies toward wonton destruction, jingoism, and military fetish. Indeed, Michael Bay is called out by name in the song "The End of an Act," wherein songwriter Parker wrote, "I miss you more than Michael Bay missed the mark when he made 'Pearl Harbor.'"

"Team America" also aims to poke fun at the late North Korean dictator Kim Jong-Il, turning him into a cartoon villain like out of a James Bond movie, and the violence-ready members of Team America end the film facing off against him.

This Helldiver Faced a Nightmarish Automaton Glitch That I Wouldn’t Wish on My Worst Enemy
Image
I’ve seen some wild stuff in my time dropping freedom across the galaxy, but nothing prepared me for what I witnessed when a fellow Helldiver shared their latest encounter on Reddit. Helldivers 2 has given us plenty of memorable moments, but this particular bug crosses the line from “hilarious glitch” into “genuine nightmare fuel” territory:

The clip this brave soul captured is absolutely bonkers. We’re talking about a Factory Strider that’s essentially firing what looks like concentrated sunbeams instead of regular lasers. The screen goes completely red, the camera shakes like the planet’s having seizures, and you can practically feel the ground melting under the sheer volume of fire.

'Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning' Overtakes the Michael Bay Blockbuster That Made $300M in Home Video Sales
Image
Having played in theaters for nearly two full months, Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning could possibly fall short of the $200 million milestone domestically. This would be a big blow for the movie, which was touted as the final installment of the long-running action franchise. Even Captain America: Brave New World managed to hit the $200 million mark at the domestic box office in its otherwise disappointing run, and it cost a fraction. The Final Reckoning, however, has performed better overseas. The film's international total is set to hit the $400 million milestone, having already overtaken one of the most iconic blockbusters of the last two decades.

In its eighth weekend of release, The Final Reckoning hit the $390 million mark in international revenue, and, in doing so, managed to pass the overseas total of Michael Bay's first Transformers movie. Released in 2007, Transformers grossed over $700 million at the worldwide box office, against...
