One of the most forgettable teen fantasy movies of the 2010s had to have been D.J. Caruso’s would-be franchise starter, I Am Number Four. In the wake of the Twilight series, Hollywood was high on teen fantasy (a genre that has now mostly been consigned to streaming), and this promised to be a doozy. It was based on a series of young adult fantasy novels called The Lorien Legacies, which were written by an author named Pittacus Lore, who, turned out to be a pseudonym for disgraced author James Frey (among others), whose career flamed out once it was revealed that his addiction memoir, A Million Little Pieces, was largely fabricated.
However, in this pre-cancellation era, Frey’s fall from grace was quickly forgiven by Hollywood, who sensed this could be the next huge franchise. A young actor named Alex Pettyfer, who Hollywood was hot on at the time,...

For an actor who played one of the most famous gimmicks in the realm of pro wrestling, Dwayne Johnson’s feats in the realm of acting have been quite underwhelming. This isn’t surprising, as in the past, the WWE icon has prioritized his brand image over the quality of his movies, contributing to several forgettable action features.

However, since the Black Adam debacle, it appears Johnson is going back to his roots, and his potential collaboration with one cinema great might change the infamous narrative surrounding his acting chops forever.

The 1997 favourite Con Air has got a new 4K remaster, and director Simon West suggests a fresh 4K release is coming soon.
It’s no secret that Disney hasn’t been the finest archivist of many of its 1990s favourites, only now getting around to 4K remasters of a bunch of box office hits. Catalogue stuff outside of the blockbusters is struggling to get too much of a look in, unless James Cameron happened to direct it.
Still, signs of life. Disney inked a deal a little while back with Sony, for the latter to handle its disc output. Then, earlier this year, The Digital Bits website confirmed that a 4K upgrade of the much-loved Con Air – one part of the unofficial Nicolas Cage action trilogy – was now available on iTunes.

While some actors take on many roles out of passion for their craft, others occasionally accept projects simply as part of the job. Hugo Weaving, known for playing some of the most unforgettable characters in Hollywood, has always been praised for bringing power and depth to his performances.
His intense screen presence and deep voice have made him a natural fit for playing villains. That is exactly why he was chosen to voice Megatron in Michael Bay’s Transformers films.

In an unexpected yet fitting collaboration, blockbuster filmmaker Michael Bay has directed a recruitment advertisement for the U.S. Secret Service, an organization known for its high-stakes action and elite operations—something that aligns seamlessly with Bay’s signature explosive style. What makes this story even more compelling is Bay’s meeting with then-President Donald Trump during the production of the ad, a moment the director himself described as “surreal.”
Michael Bay and President Trump Bay and Trump: A Connection Forged Through Film
Michael Bay and Donald Trump share a notable history, particularly regarding Bay’s 2016 film 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi. The movie, which depicts the true events of the 2012 attack on the U.S. diplomatic compound in Benghazi, was a controversial subject during Barack Obama’s presidency. The "Transformers" movie franchise is unusually dense with lore, characters, plot, and continuity. Unlike most long-running franchises, which tend to reboot their continuity every so often, the "Transformers" films have oddly prided themselves on keeping at least a loose sense of connectivity between each cinematic installment, making sure that no new film expressly treads upon another movie's events or revisits old territory. While this makes being a fan of the series a generally rewarding experience, it has left the films in an odd position as to where they might be going next. 2017's "The Last Knight," the fifth and to date last installment directed by Michael Bay, left events on a cliffhanger that's yet to be addressed or resolved, while 2023's "Rise of the Beasts," set 23 years before "Knight," seemed to promise a crossover adventure with Hasbro and Paramount's "G.I. Joe" franchise. Last year's "Transformers One" seemed to promise...

In terms of modern filmmaking, it's hard to do better than Christopher Nolan. Even dating back to his early works such as "The Prestige" and "Memento," it was clear that this man was something special. Everyone is going to have their favorites and yes, to an extent, film is a subjective medium. That said, Nolan's broad critical acclaim coupled with his ability to deliver a commercial hit makes him unrivaled in the 2000s. Rather quantifiably, he has proven himself to be the most consistently bankable director working in Hollywood today, and one pretty eye-popping stat proves it.
Nolan had a run from 2008 to 2017 that was, in a word, ridiculous. That run includes the $1 billion beloved blockbuster smash "The Dark Knight," his mind-bending thriller "Inception," DC's one-time highest-grossing movie ever "The Dark Knight Rises," the ambitious modern sci-fi classic "Interstellar," and...

Michael Bay just went crazy and broke into the Vatican, according to a video he posted online of himself. He wasn’t allowed to just walk free and later revealed in the video that he turned himself in to the Vatican police who arrived there. It is hard to figure out if it’s part of Bay’s crazy stunts or a promotion for an upcoming film.

Producer Brad Fuller talks to us about A Quiet Place, making genre films on a budget, and his latest sci-fi thriller, Elevation.
“I’m speaking to you from jail,” producer Brad Fuller says as he appears on a video call from Brisbane, Australia. And, sure enough, he’s sitting directly in front of a large window with horizontal white bars running across it. This is, he tells us, the set of Anaconda – presumably some back office somewhere – his latest project, and one of a string of genre movies he’s steered over the past quarter of a century.
Fuller is a genuine fan of horror, action and creature features. Aside from the aforementioned snake movie – a meta reworking of the 1997 B-movie of the same name – he’s also produced A Quiet Place and its numerous sequels and prequels. A run of successful horror remakes abruptly ended in 2010, which spelled trouble for Platinum Dunes. Producer Brad Fuller explains what happened next.
For almost a decade, Platinum Dunes was one of the most successful independent production companies in Hollywood. Beginning with The Texas Chainsaw Massacre in 2003, which made over $100 million on a sub-$10m budget, the studio seemed to have hit on a magical formula: make genre movies to a price, attached to classic horror titles.
Texas Chainsaw was therefore followed by a string of other remakes, all based on films from the 70s and 80s: 2005’s The Amityville Horror was followed by The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning in 2006; The Hitcher, Friday The 13th and A Nightmare On Elm Street were all released between 2007 and 2009.
In the financial crisis era, audiences, it seemed, loved gory escapism. But in 2010, something strange happened: Platinum Dunes co-founder Brad Fuller noticed that his phone had stopped ringing.

For the first time since 2022, this year’s South by Southwest Film & Television Festival does not overlap with the Oscars — which seems to have given SXSW curators a richer field to pull from, as the 2025 lineup has no shortage of buzzy titles and stars. On paper, the pairing of actor Bruce Willis and director Michael Bay would seem like a match made in heaven. Right from the start of his career, Bay demonstrated an affinity for casting movie stars with big personalities, and Willis was one of the biggest personalities of the '90s. The actor's particular brand of machismo serves Bay's rah-rah jingoism especially well in the director's third feature, 1998's "Armageddon." Who else but Willis could make a general audience buy the patently ridiculous premise that Willis' oil drilling company head, Harry S. Stamper, and his fellow drillers could be given a crash-course in astronaut training in order to man a mission onto a "planet-killer" asteroid headed directly for Earth?
In "Armageddon," as in many of Bay's films, there is much that can be critiqued; even the movie's defenders (yours truly included) admit that the premise is one that stretches the limits of even B-movie credulity,...

Based on an idea by Malone, Big Rig is co-written by the Grammy-nominated singer and Vault editor-in-chief Adrian Wassel. Vault co-founder Nathan Gooden (Barbaric) illustrates.
Set during the Dark Ages, the story sees demon hordes invading Europe. The Six Petals, a secret sect of the Knights Templar, are in desperate need of a means to drive back the scourge. What crashes to earth is The Rig, a fully loaded tractor trailer.

Aloha! The natural beauty of Hawaii has long inspired and captivated filmmakers longing to show off the soaring cliffs and clear blue waters, in addition to the rich Polynesian culture. Many romantic comedies and coming-of-age films have taken advantage of the stirring imagery to evoke paradise, spirit, and dreamy tenderness. But there's tragedy and drama to be found there too, given the attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941, as well as the many wartime epics that have been made showing Hawaii at its most tragic.
Given the geographic variety of the state, it's no surprise that a diverse range of stories have been told using the islands and its people, and here, we're taking a look at the 10 best films set in Hawaii.

In the wake of the legendary David Lynch's passing, social media timelines flooded with tributes to the influential filmmaker, often utilizing screenshots and gifs from his immaculate body of work. However, another image made the rounds with just as much fervor -- namely, that of Pamela Anderson in the hallowed grounds of the Criterion Closet with the subtitle "We love David Lynch." Anderson had made her visit to the famed closet as part of the awards campaign for "The Last Showgirl," a way for movie lovers to admire (or judge) her taste in cinema. Indeed, countless creatives have made their way to the Criterion Closet since Guillermo del Toro was first filmed making his selections back in 2010, with many calling it a "dream come true."

The first trailer for Drop, the latest thriller from director Christopher Landon, has arrived, teasing a tension-filled rollercoaster that blends technological paranoia with classic whodunnit twists. Starring Emmy nominee Meghann Fahy (The White Lotus) and Brandon Sklenar (1923), the film is set to hit UK cinemas on 11 April 2025.
Fahy leads the cast as Violet, a widowed mother cautiously navigating her first date in years. Her nerves about the evening are briefly eased when her date, Henry (played by Sklenar), turns out to be both charming and handsome. However, what begins as a promising encounter quickly spirals into terror. Violet receives a series of anonymous, increasingly menacing messages on her phone. These “drops” start as unsettling memes but escalate into chilling threats against her young son and sister, who are at home under the watch of an unseen figure captured on Violet’s security cameras.

Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse, Happy Death Day, Freaky—Christopher Landon directed some of my absolute favorite films of the 2010s, so I'm always excited to see what he's cooking up next behind the camera, and his latest movie, Drop (written by Jillian Jacobs & Chris Roach), is certainly no exception. Universal Pictures has revealed the new trailer for Drop, the upcoming thriller from Blumhouse and director Christopher Landon. The film will open in theaters on April 11.
Drop has been rated PG-13 by the MPA for strong violent content, suicide, some strong language, and sexual references.
First dates are nerve-wracking enough. Going on a first date while an unnamed, unseen troll pings you personal memes that escalate from annoying to homicidal? Blood-chilling.
Director Christopher Landon returns to the thriller genre with the playful, keep-you-guessing intensity he perfected in the Happy Death Day films with this of-the-moment whodunnit where everyone in the vicinity is a suspect… or victim. Drop is jointly produced by blockbuster genre houses Blumhouse and Platinum Dunes.
Emmy nominee Meghann Fahy, the breakout star of The White Lotus and The Perfect Couple, plays Violet, a widowed mother on her first date in years, who arrives at an upscale restaurant...

Freaky and Happy Death Day director Christopher Landon was supposed to be working on Scream 7 – but that project turned out to be so troubled, he had to activate his ejector seat and get out of there. While he has since been replaced on Scream 7 by Kevin Williamson, he has been busy lining up other genre projects, signing on to direct the werewolf thriller Big Bad and the “fast-paced thriller” Drop. Coming our way from Blumhouse and Platinum Dunes, the production company team that has previously brought us the Purge franchise, Drop moved forward first, and is aiming for an April 11th theatrical release. With that date swiftly approaching, a trailer for Drop has dropped and can be seen in the embed above.

Post Malone is driving into the comics world behind the wheel of an 18-wheeler.
The singer and songwriter behind hits “Sunflower” and “Circles” has teamed up with Vault Comics for Big Rig, a graphic novel described as Evil Dead meets Mad Max: Fury Road.
Platinum Dunes, the production banner run by Michael Bay and Brad Fuller, is also involved with the comic, and is working with Malone and Vault on developing a feature adaptation.
Based on an idea by Malone, Big Rig is written by the singer and Adrian Wassel, and is being drawn by Nathan Gooden, who previously illustrated Vault’s hit comic Barbaric. The comic will be published later this year, but in order to rev up interest, Vault will release the first chapter exclusively at local comic shops on Free Comic Book Day 2025.
“This is going to kick ass,” said Malone in a statement. “It’s amazing...

Although he has his critics, Michael Bay is one of the most recognizable directors in Hollywood and has created some massive blockbusters throughout his career, making his highest-rated movie incredibly fitting. His explosive style full of eye-catching action isn't for everyone, but there's no denying Bay knows how to put on a spectacle. Alongside plenty of interesting one-off projects, Michael Bay turned Transformers into a box office sensation, having produced five movies in the live-action series. While it's fair to say they aren't all cinematic masterpieces, they certainly made a splash financially and kept audiences hooked for an entire decade.
Though his projects often divide critics and general audiences, it can't be denied he's made a huge impression on modern cinema, and his blueprint has proved effective over the years. Even Bay's very first movie, Bad Boys, remains relevant today, as it received a fourth installment in 2024, albeit without the director involved.
