Famous filmmaker Michael Bay, best known for directing the Transformers movies, says he was arrested while trying to enter a restricted area at the Vatican. Bay shared a video on Instagram, where he appeared to be in custody and wearing handcuffs.

In the clip, Bay is seen standing on Vatican grounds, explaining what happened. “They are taking me to the prison, it’s a local prison here,” he says in the video. “So let me tell you, do not break into the Vatican. I got handcuffs on right now. I turned myself in.”

While the full details of the incident are still unclear, Bay admitted in the video that he attempted to enter a restricted area, which ultimately led to his detention by Vatican security.

“I’m speaking to you from jail,” producer Brad Fuller says as he appears on a video call from Brisbane, Australia. And, sure enough, he’s sitting directly in front of a large window with horizontal white bars running across it. This is, he tells us, the set of Anaconda – presumably some back office somewhere – his latest project, and one of a string of genre movies he’s steered over the past quarter of a century.

The film features Fahy (The White Lotus and The Perfect Couple) as Violet, a widowed mom who’s trying to get back out on the dating scene. She goes on her first date in years at a fancy restaurant with Sklenar’s (It Ends with Us and Yellowstone: 1923) character, Henry. However, things take a turn for the worse when Violet keeps receiving texts telling her to kill her date or else her son will die.

This year’s SXSW Film Festival, taking place in Austin, TX, has unveiled its lineup this afternoon and it’s another insanely packed year for horror premieres.

While the Midnighter section is dedicated to the genre lovers, SXSW 2025 has filled its Headliner section and beyond with buzzy, highly anticipated titles including Flying Lotus‘s sci-fi horror movie Ash, Christopher Landon‘s ode to Brian De Palma in Drop, and A24’s Death of a Unicorn. Also look for Clown in a Cornfield, the film adaptation of Adam Cesare’s YA slasher novel.

Among the titles in this year’s festival include Ben Affleck sequel “The Accountant 2,” A24’s “Death of a Unicorn,” and an opening night screening of Seth Rogen’s new Apple TV+ series “The Studio” — “alongside a broad slate of Feature Films, TV projects, and Xr Experiences” (according to the official release).

Additionally, Christopher Landon’s new Blumhouse thriller “Drop” and Mimi Cave’s “Holland” will also mark festival outings this year.

Dating can be a chore — but for Meghann Fahy’s single-mother character in the upcoming Blumhouse thriller “Drop,” it can also quickly turn into a deadly game of iPhone cat and mouse.

Directed and co-written (with Jillian Jacobs) by Christopher Landon (“Happy Death Day”), the movie stars Fahy as a woman on a chic first date who is just starting to hit it off with the handsome man across the table from her when her phone begins buzzing with notifications. Someone in the restaurant is Airdropping messages to her… messages that become increasingly personal and threatening when they include photos of her son. The rules to saving her boy are simple: She can’t tell anyone what’s going on… and she has to kill her date.

In Drop, White Lotus Emmy nominee Meghann Fahy, plays Violet, a widowed mother on her first date in years, who arrives at an upscale restaurant where she is relieved that her date, Henry (Brandon Sklenar) is more charming and handsome than she expected. While he has since been replaced on Scream 7 by Kevin Williamson, he has been busy lining up other genre projects, signing on to direct the werewolf thriller Big Bad and the “fast-paced thriller” Drop. Platinum Dunes, the production banner run by Michael Bay and Brad Fuller, is also involved with the comic, and is working with Malone and Vault on developing a feature adaptation.

Based on an idea by Malone, Big Rig is written by the singer and Adrian Wassel, and is being drawn by Nathan Gooden, who previously illustrated Vault’s hit comic Barbaric. The comic will be published later this year, but in order to rev up interest, Vault will release the first chapter exclusively at local comic shops on Free Comic Book Day 2025.
