"It's the doctor! He's real!" Quiver Distr. recently released this indie horror film and it's already available to watch. Marshmallow is a horror film "for kids" about kids at summer camp encountering a scary doctor, made by the director / VFX artist Daniel DelPurgatorio as his first feature film. 12-year-old Morgan Kim is terrified of summer camp—especially the spooky campfire stories. But when a masked "doctor" figure from legend comes to life, he must conquer his fears, protect his friends, and uncover Camp Almar's dark secret before it’s too late. This group of young campers will uncover a profound secret that questions their very existence. Starring Kue Lawrence as Morgan, with Giorgia Whigham, Corbin Bernsen, Paul Soter, Pierson Fode, and a bunch of other camp kids. I'm glad someone is still trying to make horror movies that younger viewers can watch. The villain in this isn't the scariest thing out there,...

Puzzles are a great way to exercise your mental skills and turn you into a real, mean calculating machine. Other benefits also include being able to deduce solutions quickly, and recognize patterns from your favorite pieces of media, as well, which also happen to include movies, as seen in the daily Framed challenges.
Given the rather difficult nature of these puzzles, there is no shame in seeking a bit of help, and for that, I am happy to oblige. Solutions for all 3 known Framed puzzles will be detailed below, along with a bit of trivia regarding the movies in question. Let’s begin, shall we?
Framed Classic Solution for Today Image Credits: Framed/FandomWire
Like prior Framed Classic puzzles, players will have to choose the correct movie as indicated from a total of 6 slides. Each slide represents a particular still from the movie, and gets progressively easier to identify. This...

Who doesn’t love a horror anthology? There’s something inherently reassuring about multiple stories in a single package. If you don’t like the segment you’re watching, there’s another one on the way. With that said, some anthology efforts feature a crowd-pleasing lineup of vignettes with no missteps in sight. Such a feature exists in the 1995 horror anthology Tales from the Hood. But somehow, this effective effort remains relatively unsung outside of its small but dedicated fan base.
If you are among the uninducted, we have good news to share: Tales from the Hood is now streaming on Tubi. If you opt to check the film out, you’ll surely be taken with the picture’s penchant for entertaining storylines steeped in social commentary. This is a film that’s both engaging and profound. In a sense, this is elevated horror from a time before that terminology was commonplace.

Will Duster ride again? After the HBO Max original drama came to a stunning conclusion on Thursday, with one major character’s fate in question and the news that another who we’ve only heard about in past terms is alive, well, and potentially up to no good, the series left plenty of room to continue on for Season 2. However, on Wednesday, July 9, there was bad news announced about its future. So will the J.J. Abrams and Latoya Morgan co-created series return for Season 2? Here’s what we know so far. Has Duster been renewed for Season 2? No. On Wednesday, July 9, it was announced that Duster was canceled after one season. Who starred in Duster? The cast included Josh Holloway as getaway driver-turned-fbi informant Jim Ellis, Rachel Hilson as Nina Hayes, Camille Guaty as Izzy, Asivak Koostachin as Nina’s bureau partner Awan Bitsui, Corbin Bernsen as Jim’s father Wade,...

J. J. Abrams' Dusterkeeps going strong on the streaming charts, and fans of shows like Justified couldn't be happier.
Per Flix Patrol, Duster, from creators J. J. Abrams and Latoya Morgan, the latter of whom serves as showrunner, is continuing to make its mark on the streaming charts. As of the time of writing, Duster has made its way to the number four spot on the top streaming chart for HBO Max for July 5, and it doesn't show any signs of slowing down.
Released on May 15, Duster is set back in 1972 and stars Rachel Hilson as Nina Hayes, the very first Black female FBI agent. Hilson's Agent Hayes works alongside Josh Holloway's Jim Ellis, an exceptionally talented driver with a penchant for making hasty getaways, as she attempts to uproot and stomp out the Southern crime syndicate run by Keith David's Ezra Saxton. This post contains spoiler from the Duster season finale on Max.
We’ve arrived at the season finale of Duster on Max. As we left off last week, it was clear the house of lies built by Nina (Rachel Hilson) and Jim (Josh Holloway) as they investigate Saxton (Keith David) had come crashing down. But could they find a way to survive? That’s the question we had to answer during this week’s finale, “66 Reno Split.” Let’s dive in and see how it turned out.
We open this week by flashing back to South Philly in 1954. There, Saxton is threatening Virgil Hayes (Kenneth Mosely). Seems Virgil isn’t keeping up his end of the numbers-running racket. Young Nina watches the exchange. It’s not long before her father ends up dead, providing the fuel that’s led to her choice of career and current situation.

It might seem as though the cast of "Friends" got lucky landing their roles in that beloved '90s sitcom. And while luck is a big part of it, it's not as if the actors simply moved to Hollywood, got cast in the show, and became mega-stars. Every member of the ensemble spent years grinding it out in failed TV projects and small movies before they landed the roles that would change their lives.
Before "Friends," David Schwimmer starred in a short-lived sitcom with a "Happy Days" veteran, while Matthew Perry became the king of sitcoms that lasted just one season. Courteney Cox starred in a goofy fantasy flop and Matt LeBlanc starred in two failed spin-offs of a beloved sitcom before he landed the role of Joey Tribbiani on "Friends." But LeBlanc also had a couple of big-screen duds.

This post contains spoilers for Duster episode 5 on Max from this point forward.
We ended last week with Nina (Rachel Hilson) and Jim (Josh Holloway) up against it. How would they find a way forward? That was the challenge before us in this week’s episode. Let’s see how they fare in Duster season 1 episode 5.
As mentioned, Nina and Jim are in a tight spot. Nina’s boss isn’t pleased with her recent actions, which culminated in the death of a former agent. But she shares she’s close to getting an in with Saxton (Keith David), who is on the cusp of a big deal. She’s given 48-hours to make it happen.
Jim, meanwhile, is in hot water with Saxton. He lost the Howard Hughes car, which he gave away to save his life. He can’t admit the truth, so instead looks like he bungled a big job.

In October of 2017, an unhoused Seattle woman, living out of her 1991 Toyota Camry containing every possession she had in the world, found her life turned upside down after the car was stolen and then towed. She waged an epic year-long battle to get it back. Now, seven and a half years later, her story has world premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival on Saturday night as a major motion picture starring Rose Byrne and a supporting cast that includes two Oscar winners—and that unhoused woman named Amanda Ogle is an Executive Producer. This is the stuff that makes you cheer for the little guy and also makes for a feel-good movie that actually gives you hope in an increasingly dire world.
So Ogle, who had nothing to hang on to but that car, and sadly separated from her only daughter who lives in Utah, saw her car stolen but...

Put that Rolex back where it came from. Spoilers for season 1 of "Friends and Neighbors" lie ahead!
Legendary horror writer Stephen King has many delightful qualities as a public figure, but perhaps his best is that he genuinely enjoys pop culture and consumes it just like the rest of us. On the social media platform Bluesky, King weighed in on a recent Apple TV+ series with a pretty positive verdict: "Deliriously nasty. It's like a John D. MacDonald novel from 1962 with a lot more sex and no good guy. Enjoyable."
The series in question is "Your Friends and Neighbors," which premiered on the streamer in April 2025 and stars "Mad Men" veteran Jon Hamm as Andrew Cooper, a finance guy usually called "Coop" who, in the first episode, gets fired over a fling with a subordinate employee and doesn't know how to keep his expensive life afloat.

Maggie Lawson has been cast as a series regular in “Boston Blue,” CBS’ upcoming spinoff of “Blue Bloods.”
She will play Boston Police Department superintendent Sarah Silver, who is described as “well aware of the tightrope she can walk sometimes between her job and her family.”
“Boston Blue” stars Donnie Wahlberg in a reprisal of his “Blue Bloods” role, officer Danny Reagan. The series follows Danny after he takes a role with Boston Pd, where he is partnered with detective Lena Silver (Sonequa Martin-Green), the eldest daughter of a prominent law enforcement family.
This won’t be Lawson’s first time playing a cop: she is best known for starring as Juliet O’Hara in “Psych,” which ran on the USA network for eight seasons from 2006 to 2014, as well “Psych: The Movie” (2017), “Psych 2: Lassie Come Home” (2020) and “Psych 3: This Is Gus (2021).” In 2024, she starred in the Hallmark Christmas movie “Sugarplummed,...

Daniel DelPurgatorio’s “Marshmallow” initially invites us into the well-trodden grounds of Camp Almar, a classic summer camp setting that feels almost like a tutorial level for a horror story. We meet young Morgan, portrayed with a palpable sense of vulnerability by Kue Lawrence.
He’s a kid already shouldering the weight of recent grief and a bundle of anxieties, making his arrival at camp feel less like an adventure and more like another trial.
The air is thick with the promise of spooky campfire tales, and you get the distinct feeling that one particular legend—about a sinister figure known only as “The Doctor”—isn’t going to stay confined to fireside whispers for very long. It’s a setup that knowingly winks at the audience, suggesting that while the path looks familiar, the journey might just veer off into uncharted territory.

Note: This story contains spoilers from “Your Friends & Neighbors” Season 1, Episode 9.
“Your Friends & Neighbors” begins with its protagonist, fledgling robber Andrew “Coop” Cooper (Jon Hamm), waking up in a pool of blood next to a dead body. In the Season 1 finale, which premiered Friday on Apple TV+, viewers find out how that body got there and how Paul Levitt (Jordan Gelber) ended up dead in the first place. Paul, it turns out, killed himself in a last-ditch attempt to win back his estranged wife, Sam (Olivia Munn).
Realizing that Paul’s suicide would render his life insurance policy null and void, Sam covertly covered up all signs that her philandering husband’s death was self-inflicted. While she was not happy about it, Sam was more than willing to let Coop take the fall for it, too, if that was what it took to ensure a financially secure future for herself and her kids.

This post contains spoilers from Duster season 1 episode 3 from this point forward.
Often in series television, we make progress in the tiniest of increments. That’s certainly the case with Duster, the new series on Max. In the third episode, we got some progress, but it feels like some small, incremental steps. Still, any progress is good progress, right?
Let’s dive into this week’s episode of Duster.
A knife at the throat
The show has a thing for jumping to a crucial point then rewinding to show how we got there. We got it last week with Jim (Josh Holloway) and the body in the desert. This week, it’s Nina’s (Rachel Hilson) turn. We have our cold open with her in a dark kitchen, a knife and an angry man at her throat. It doesn’t look good, but quickly we spring to the opening credits.

How does that work progress in episode 2 on HBO? Well, it’s not without its challenges. Let’s dive into this week’s action in Duster season 1 episode 2, "Suspicious Minds." Spoilers Below.
Duster on Max A grave in the desert
Living near Phoenix, especially a less developed city in the early 1970s, has its advantages. It means you’re never far from a desolate place to stash a body. That turns out to come in handy for Jim as he’s burying someone—or trying to—as we open the episode. But it’s not easy. His shovel breaks. Then, another car comes up on him. Is he cooked?

If Episode 1 blew the dust off, Duster Season 1 Episode 2 stomps on the gas pedal with blue suede shoes, bowling alley brawls, and a dirty cop named Groomes who just won’t die.
Duster continues to be a glorious mess of vintage action movie chaos — unserious in all the right ways and unapologetically rooted in ’70s pulp.
Josh Holloway is still an absolute dreamboat in patchwork leather, and his world is as slick and dangerous as the soles on his brand-new Elvis collectibles. Nothing about this show asks to be taken seriously — and that’s precisely what makes it so damn watchable.

The classic sitcom "Seinfeld" mined a lot of its humor from the ludicrous things done by its four self-centered leads, but one of the funniest bits on the whole series focused on George Costanza (Jason Alexander) telling actor George Wendt, playing himself, that "Cheers" should take place somewhere other than a bar. It's impossible to imagine having the audacity to tell Wendt, who starred as Norm on "Cheers" (and a bunch of other shows) something that bonkers, but it's well within George's purview, and it goes about as well as you can expect, with Wendt eventually making fun of George on television, in front of a live studio audience. This all goes down in the season 4 two-part premiere, "The Trip" (the only episode that does not feature Elaine, played by Julia Louis-Dreyfus), leading to pure humiliation for George.

When a show gets off the ground, it needs some kind of hook. It helps to have a familiar creator and star, even better when they’ve worked together before. Behold Duster, a new 1970s-set crime drama for Max. It comes from J.J. Abrams, the man behind Lost among other series, and stars Josh Holloway, who is best known for his work in the sci-fi thriller series.
Will their reunion on the small screen be something magical? We'll have to see. Duster drops drops new episodes Thursdays on Max, and we’ll be here recapping the action. So, for the pilot, let’s dive in. Spoilers Below.

The ’70s are back, baby — and this time, they’ve brought Josh Holloway, a blood-soaked baseball bat, and a whole lot of dust-kicking chaos with them.
In Duster’s electric series premiere, Max throws us into the sweltering heat of Arizona’s criminal underworld.
This is not your typical crime drama. It’s loud, stylish, a little absurd, and utterly soaked in grindhouse charm. Think Smokey and the Bandit if Burt Reynolds were morally conflicted and on the verge of being recruited by the FBI.
(James Van Evers/Max) Jim Ellis: The Wheelman With Ghosts in the Rearview
Josh Holloway was built for the ’70s. From the feathered hair to the leather blazers and polyester shirts, he looks right at home behind the wheel of his groovy Duster.
Jim Ellis isn’t just the best getaway driver in the region — he’s also been deeply embedded in Ezra Saxton...

To say the heroes of “Duster” are united in their antipathy for The Man may be an oversimplification, but delivering simple pleasures also just happens to be what “Duster” does best.
FBI Agent Nina Hayes (Rachel Hilson) is a very good detective who enjoys being a very good detective. In a different time and place, the Philadelphia native and fresh graduate from Quantico may have been fast-tracked toward running her own department, but when it’s 1972 and you’re a Black woman in the United States, the biggest hurdle to any new investigation will always be the same double-whammy of in-house discrimination.
Despite her obvious capabilities, Hayes is hemmed in time and time again by her white, belittling bosses. She has to fight tooth-and-nail to get an open assignment no one else wants. Once she gets it, she has to overcome arbitrary deadlines, outwit adversarial should-be-allies, and surpass intentionally insurmountable standards.

As a filmmaker, J.J. Abrams wears his influences on his sleeve. A die-hard Twilight Zone fan, he turned an episode of his first series, Felicity, into a black-and-white riff on that show’s famous “Five Characters in Search of an Exit,” while Lost was full of Rod Serling-esque twists. Abrams’ films as a director have included a Mission: Impossible and two entries apiece in the Star Trek and Star Wars franchises. And his one wholly original movie as a director, Super 8, is an unmistakable homage to early Steven Spielberg.

Many questions were raised when Warner Bros. initially announced “HBO Max” (and then “Max”) as the name of its big streaming platform.
The first and most obvious question was, “Why take a brand name as established and curated as HBO and dilute it with proximity to this much corporate flotsam and jetsam?”
Somewhere among the top five questions, though, was “Wait, can you use ‘Max’ when HBO already has ‘Cinemax’ as a corporate sibling?”
HBO’s disreputable younger brother, Cinemax attempted to shed or expand on its “Skinemax” reputation with a fairly successful run of originals between 2011 and 2019, a small group that included Strike Back, Banshee, The Knick, Warrior, Quarry and Jett. Cinemax originals were gussied-up B-movies in the best way possible — pulpy genre exercises with one or two-word titles perfect for splashing across posters or battered, well-read paperbacks.

Duster launches viewers into a world where chrome-bright Plymouths carve dust trails across desert highways and every glance carries a hidden agenda. Set in 1972 Phoenix, the series pairs Jim Ellis (Josh Holloway), a smooth-talking getaway driver running cash for crime boss Saxton Higgs (Keith David), with Nina Hayes (Rachel Hilson), the FBI’s first Black female agent determined to prove her worth in a bureau resistant to change. Under J.J. Abrams and Latoya Morgan’s guidance, Duster marries pulp thriller instincts with moments of quiet character study, letting rust-toned landscapes mirror inner conflicts.
Visually, the show bathes each frame in warm hues that recall both Spaghetti Westerns and ’70s exploitation flicks, while the soundtrack—packed with James Brown grit and Hendrix riffs—underscores every high-octane chase and hushed interrogation. Editing choices shift gear from punchy cross-cuts in traffic pursuits to lingering close-ups during Hayes’s hushed discoveries. In its narrative design,...

Duster TV Review: J.J. Abrams and Lost star Josh Holloway reunite for a retro mystery roller coaster
Plot: Set in the 1970s Southwest, Duster explores the life of a gutsy getaway driver for a growing crime syndicate that goes from dangerous to wildly, stupidly dangerous when a tenacious young agent comes into town hellbent on taking his crime family down.
Review: When Lost debuted in 2004, it introduced audiences to several fresh faces, including Josh Holloway. Playing the smart-ass anti-hero Sawyer, Holloway became a sex symbol and seemed to have a big career ahead. Despite a small role in Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, the short-lived series Intelligence and Colony, and a supporting turn on Yellowstone, Josh Holloway has been criminally underutilized in Hollywood. Lost co-creator J.J. Abrams and Latoya Morgan set out to create Duster as a showcase for Holloway, which evolved into a rip-roaring retro thriller blending 1970s vibes and mystery series and an intense modern sensibility. “Duster,” the rip-roaring new caper series spearheaded by J.J. Abrams and Latoya Morgan, is nothing less than a monument to the undeniable charisma of leading man Josh Holloway, who hasn’t had the chance to anchor a show in far too long.
Debuting Thursday on Max, the series takes full advantage of its mid-’70s setting to festoon a cast of familiar faces with flared collars and bellbottoms while spinning a yarn that piles on the twists with every turn of its titular Plymouth two-door.
Max has had a good run of late with compelling dramas anchored by familiar stars and benefiting from unique premises. It’s what turned “The Pitt” into a watercooler sensation earlier this year. In much the same way that medical drama leaned into the weathered familiarity of star Noah Wyle to pull audiences in, “Duster” capitalizes on Holloway, who’s still channeling the same effortless...

Given its title, you might expect the new Max streaming series Duster to race along at a fast and furious pace. However, while it’s not adrenaline-fueled, it delivers a healthy dose of grit, charm, and steady tension, making it a ride worth every mile.
Much of that credit goes to the two charismatic leads: one, rediscovering the magic that made him a star nearly two decades ago; the other, a young actress finally taking center stage with a breakout performance. Duster is cool, sexy, and enthralling, though it takes a few too many episodes to work out most of its kinks.

Slashers and sleepover camps are the spaghetti and meatballs of horror cinema. Counselors told campfire legends even before Friday the 13th, their faces ghoulishly illuminated by a dim-wattage flashlight. Daniel DelPurgatorio's Marshmallow follows in the footsteps of every overnight retreat nightmare … until it doesn't. A film titled after the soft and squishy treats that bind s'mores evokes comfort, but quite impressively, after establishing normalcy as a ruse, DelPurgatorio pivots from sweet familiarity. It takes some patience to outlast the film's more mediocre beginnings, yet unlike other stories that paddle in place without going anywhere, Marshmallow lands a payoff you'll be buzzing about for a while.

Amanda Peet, who plays Coop’s wife, Mel Cooper, will be submitted in the Best Drama Supporting Actress category alongside Aimee Carrero, Lena Hall, and Olivia Munn.

A couple of things that we’ve covered on the channel at length are the works of Howard Phillips Lovecraft and the films of gone too soon writer and director Stuart Gordon. For Lovecraft, we have looked at everything from behind-the-scenes drama on The Curse to the accuracy and differences of literary adaptations like The Resurrected. We have given Gordon his time in the sun as well, with deep looks at both his movie Dolls and his Poe adaptation of The Pit and the Pendulum. These two titans have also intersected more than a few times with Gordon making movies out of Lovecraft stories like Dagon and Castle Freak and, most famously and something we have covered on more than a few occasions, Re-Animator. Lost in the shuffle is a collaboration of these two greats that may be the greatest achievement that nobody talks about. From Beyond takes a lot of the elements,...

There's a new face moving into the neighborhood. Variety reports that James Marsden is joining the upcoming second season of Your Friends and Neighbors. The AppleTV+ series, which stars Jon Hamm as an ex-financier who turns to crime, premiered last week and has already been renewed for a second season. Marsden will be a regular on the show's next season; his role is being kept under wraps for now.
Marsden is a hot commodity these days: he was a key player on the Hulu hit Paradise(although, given that the first season revolves around solving his character's murder, he's unlikely to return in a significant capacity for its second season), and had a comedy smash on Prime Video with the mockumentary Jury Duty. He has also starred alongside a pack of CG creatures in Paramount's Sonic the Hedgehog films, which will be back for a fourth installment in 2027. Marsden...

Olivia Munn has opened up about the insecure feelings she experienced while filming intimate scenes for Your Friends & Neighbors. Created by Jonathan Tropper for Apple TV+, the dark comedy crime drama follows Jon Hamm's Andrew "Coop" Cooper, a recently divorced and unemployed hedge fund manager. Coop dives into criminal activity to keep his lifestyle and family comfortable, which leads to him uncovering some dangerous secrets in his affluent town. Munn stars as Samantha "Sam" Levitt, who is having a secret affair with Coop.
Munn's vulnerability in discussing the hardship of filming love scenes with Hamm may resonate with anyone who has ever felt insecure in their own skin. During a recent interview with the Los Angeles Times, she shared:
"I was really nervous about doing any sex scenes because I have a lot of scars. Scars that can be seen in clothing and scars that you wouldn't know unless I was completely nude.

This post contains spoilers from Your Friends and Neighbors from this point forward.
When you press play on Your Friends and Neighbors, you're probably not expecting to be greeted by a murder scene in the very first few seconds. But that's exactly what happens as Andrew "Coop" Cooper (Jon Hamm) wakes up in a pool of someone else's blood on the foyer of a mansion. There's a lifeless body beside him and he quickly attempts to clean up a bit to no avail before darting out of the house. Outdoor lights flick on, scaring him right into the pool where he reflects on what got him here.
Following the opening sequence that's reminiscent of The Mindy Project's pilot episode, we're brought back to four months earlier, long before that bloody death ever occurred. Nothing in Coop's life is going well. He lost his job after his boss Jack Bailey...

“It’s not yours if you can’t keep it.”
In “Your Friends and Neighbors,” this line emerges from Jack Bailey (Corbin Bernsen), a rich old dude who runs a hedge fund and just fired Andrew Cooper (Jon Hamm), a slightly-less-rich, slightly-less-old dude who manages, er, managed a hedge fund. Bailey’s point is basically nothing that belongs to the firm belongs to Andrew, even if Andrew — who goes by “Coop,” because he’s cool and relatable like that — brought in the clients, their investments, and their influence. It’s a shitty thing to say, just like firing Coop is a shitty thing to do, but hey, that’s Jack — and that’s business.
Still, the phrase inevitably springs to mind later, as Coop pivots from taking anyone’s money to make the rich richer and into taking the rich’s money to make himself richer. As he sneaks into his wealthy neighbors’ capacious mansions,...

After years of very public health struggles, Olivia Munn had decided to stop acting in front of the camera. Then she heard about Your Friends and Neighbors.
“I wanted to go behind the scenes. I wanted to write, edit, and produce,” Munn, who revealed her breast cancer diagnosis last year, tells Gold Derby. “I wasn’t going to make some big announcement as people do. I just said, ‘Please, just don’t put me out there anymore.’”
However, Munn found the project almost irresistible when she heard about the new Apple TV+ drama from creator Jonathan Tropper (This Is Where I Leave You) with Jon Hamm in the lead role. Your Friends and Neighbors stars Hamm as Andrew “Coop” Cooper, an obnoxiously wealthy hedge-fund manager who loses his job soon after splitting from his wife, Mel (Amanda Peet). Running out of savings, he starts stealing from his unsuspecting friends and neighbors,...
