  • (10/22/51) Stage: Appeared (as "Don Juan") in "Don Juan in Hell", the third fact of George Bernard Shaw's "Man and Superman," for a single performance at Carnegie Hall. The production, which was directed by Charles Laughton (who played The Devil) and featured Sir Cedric Hardwicke as The Statue and Agnes Moorehead as Donna Anna, then returned to New York, playing the New Century Theatre on Broadway from 29 November 1951-31 December 1951 for 38 performances. After a three-month hiatus, the production staged a return engagement at the Plymouth Theatre from 6 April 1952 - 24 May 1952, playing a total of 66 performances. In 1952, Boyer was presented with a special Tony Award for his performance. The production, which essentially was a staged reading, was recorded and released as an LP.
