Danny Boyle is one of the greatest filmmakers currently working. He is known for renowned works like “28 Days Later” (2002), “Trainspotting” (1996), “127 Hours” (2010), and “Slumdog Millionaire” (2008). Boyle is one of those filmmakers who has created and adapted a style so distinctive that every time we see something similar in another film, it immediately reminds us of him. His signature often includes documentary-like, shaky handheld camerawork. Boyle frequently collaborates with cinematographer Dod Mantle and writer/director Alex Garland, with Mantle bringing influences from Cinéma Vérité and Dogme 95. Interestingly, however, the cinematography in “The Beach” (2000), handled by Darius Khondji, is remarkably steady and polished, a departure from Boyle’s usual style.
The Beach (2000) Plot Summary & Movie Synopsis:
The film begins with Richard (played by Leonardo DiCaprio) narrating the story of how he left his life in the United States and why he ended up in Thailand. Richard is a young man—too...

We told you Tuesday that New Line’s Weapons could tip the scales at the box office past Disney’s Freakier Friday with a mid-$30M-to-$40M take. Further proof of the Zach Cregger-directed/written/produced title’s heat: Fandango is reporting that the movie is the second-best horror ticket pre-seller of 2025 behind Sinners at the same point in its sales cycle, and it’s ahead of Final Destination Bloodlines and 28 Years Later.
Sinners opened to $48M in April. Warners owns the two top openings for horror movies this year with New Line’s Final Destination Bloodlines ($51.6M) and Warner’s own Sinners. Fandango reports that Weapons also is the best horror ticket pre-seller among all of Cregger’s films, surpassing 2022’s Barbarian, which opened to $10.5M and ended its run at $40.8M on a $4.5M production cost.
Just an asterisk when it comes to horror presales: These movies can be very frontloaded.

In what’s one of the last big showdowns at the summer box office, New Line’s Weapons, which is strong across the board, and Disney’s femme-skewing, much millennial-loved Freakier Friday are about to face off, with the tracking reports indicating a too-close-to-call race for No. 1 with $30 million-plus expected for both.
However, there is immense buzz from distribution sources that the Weapons, the enigmatic horror movie directed, written and produced by Zach Cregger about a class of school children who fled their homes mysteriously in the night, has the edge with a mid-$30M and possible $40M take. We’re hearing that AMC is seeing presales for Weapons ahead of 28 Days Later; that Danny Boyle zombie title opened to $30M.
Disney’s Freakier Friday, which reteams Lindsay Lohan and Oscar winner Jamie Lee Curtis from the 2003 film, is also hoping for $30M.

Exclusive: Sony Music is chasing an unpaid debt from the producer of Creation Stories, the Danny Boyle executive-produced UK indie movie about record label founder Alan McGee.
Sony Music has issued Creation Stories Ltd with a “winding-up petition,” which in the UK is often the last resort taken by a creditor when attempting to recover debt. Sony is essentially seeking a court order to put Creation Stories into liquidation.
Creation Stories Ltd was a special-purpose vehicle through which Creation Stories was made. Its directors are Shelley Hammond and Hollie Richmond, who ran Burning Wheel Productions, which was ultimately credited with producing Creation Stories. Hammond and Richmond now run Herd International.
Creation Stories Ltd’s most recently filed accounts, for the year to April 30, 2021, showed that it owed creditors £502,408 and had debts of £79,813.
A Creation Stories spokesperson said: “The production was completed several years ago. Now that this issue has been brought to our attention,...

Michael Mann’s “Thief” (1981) reminded me of something that Danny Boyle said during his time in the Criterion Collection’s closet. He picked up the Coen brothers‘ debut feature while speaking about his father, who still compares all his films to his feature debut, “Shallow Grave.” That’s because he thinks it’s his son’s finest work, even if it’s his first. There might be some truth to Mr. Boyle’s theory, which is why “Thief” feels like a blueprint for everything Mann has worked on. Not that he hasn’t made anything great otherwise, but there’s something to his first film that you can’t help but fall in love with, especially if you can’t get enough of his cinematic style.

The official trailer and poster for ‘Odyssey,’ the highly anticipated new film from acclaimed British writer-director Gerard Johnson, has arrived — and it’s every bit as stylish, gritty, and darkly hilarious as fans of his previous work might expect.
Led by a ferocious, career-defining performance from Muscle’s Polly Maberly, the film made its explosive World Premiere earlier this year at SXSW, and is gearing up for its UK debut at the Edinburgh International Film Festival and a high-profile London premiere at FrightFest later this month, ahead of a nationwide theatrical release.
Maberly stars as Natasha Flynn, a coke-fuelled London estate agent whose high-end façade is crumbling under the weight of addiction, debt, and desperation. When a pair of shady loan sharks offer her quick cash to stash a kidnapped rival agent, Natasha dives headfirst into a nightmare journey through the capital’s seediest corners — one laced with menace, mayhem,...

A few months ago, it was revealed that Legendary Pictures, the company behind the 2022 Texas Chainsaw Massacre film that was released through the Netflix streaming service, had let their rights to make new films in the franchise lapse, so Verve, which currently represents the rights, are looking to “build out a multimedia strategy” for the franchise, with filmmakers, producers, and buyers looking to get involved. It was said that writer/director Jt Mollner (Strange Darling) and producer Roy Lee (It) were among the interested parties, teaming up with A24 for a TV series pitch that has actor Glen Powell (Top Gun: Maverick) hoping to read the script. But A24 / Mollner / Lee had some serious competition. A couple of months ago, we heard that five to eight studios and/or streamers were seeking the rights, with names in the mix including Jordan Peele’s company Monkeypaw, Osgood Perkins and Neon, and even Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan!

Superman's co-composer, John Murphy, explains why he prefers working with DC in comparison to Marvel Studios. The composer is a frequent collaborator of James Gunn, having written scores for Guardians of the GalaxyVol. 3 for the Marvel Cinematic Universe and Peacemaker and The Suicide Squad for the DC Extended Universe.
The highly rated new Superman movie marked the latest project from the 28 Days Later composer, who wrote the tracks "Theme from Superman (Official Trailer Version)," "LuthorCorp," "Lois & Clark," "Raising the Flag," and "Walking on Air."
In an interview with ScreenRant, Murphy compared his experience working with Marvel Studios and DC. He shared that he came to work with Marvel on GotG Vol. 3, and while he appreciated the overall "professional" approach, he did feel the emotional distance and admitted to having to "deal with politics separately." This year marked the release of 28 Years Later and the reunion of Danny Boyle and Alex Garland. While the film has been divisive, there’s no denying the gorgeous visuals constructed by Boyle and his director of photography Anthony Dod Mantle. Plus, it was all accomplished on iPhones, which is an incredible feat itself. In honor of the film’s entertainment release, we have an exclusive behind-the-scenes clip of how the team crafted the bold look of 28 Years Later.

28 Years Later (Danny Boyle)
Armed with a bevy of iPhones, 28 Years Later is definitely an “I’ve still got the moves” gesture from Boyle. It’s a case where his frenetic energy, paired with returning writer Alex Garland’s structurally odd screenplay, creates a film that one never feels a step ahead of––a deep compliment for something about to be unleashed on multiplexes. Even if that doesn’t necessarily result in a great film, per se. – Ethan V. (full review)

Jurassic Park Trilogy Returns To Netflix US(Photo Credit –Prime Video)
Jurassic Park changed everything when it hit theaters in 1993. The dinosaurs came stomping onto the screen in a way with effects never seen before, coupled with terrific storytelling, and audiences were hooked from the very first scene.
The original, directed by Steven Spielberg and from Michael Crichton’s novel, was a monster success, introducing Alan Grant, Ellie Sattler, and Ian Malcolm – characters that audiences love even decades later. The original film’s success proved that sequels were only a matter of time, and although none have the sheer impact of the original, they cemented their place in movie history. The Lost World brought back Ian Malcolm and added a darker tone, but still cashed in big. Jurassic Park III returned to the island with Grant and Sattler, and while reviews were mixed, it is still a casual movie success.

The towering Mma fighter-turned-actor, Chi Lewis-Parry, who played the terrifying Alpha zombie Samson in 28 Years Later, has stirred up curiosity among fans with a cryptic tease. In an interview with GQ published July 30, Lewis-Parry dropped a quiet bombshell that could have major implications for the upcoming Bone Temple sequel.
When asked about the harrowing scene involving the pregnant infected woman on the train from 28 Years Later, Lewis-Parry revealed that the scene, along with the potential fatherhood of his character, wasn’t even in the script. It was something he and director Danny Boyle cooked up on the day, giving Samson a strange emotional depth and mystery.
That actual scene, me and Danny discussed on the day. That wasn’t [in the script]. Danny wanted a moment on the train before the carnage happens that broke up the scene, to show there’s more behind the eyes of this infected, that he isn’t just a head-ripping psychopath.

Wonder Studios, a London start-up that brands itself as an “AI-native film studio,” will premiere Beyond the Loop on its YouTube channel on 18 July, calling the four-part programme the first anthology created from script to final grade with generative software.
Each ten-minute short was shaped by early-career directors working under the remote guidance of Oscar winner Danny Boyle, with companies such as ElevenLabs and Kling supplying synthetic voices and imagery for a pipeline Hackney describes as “new cinema for the world that’s coming”.
Producer-co-founder Justin Hackney says the project answers shows like Black Mirror while giving artists greater ownership; the studio plans to release the films free on YouTube and Vimeo before courting festivals and advertisers. Although Deadline first revealed the venture, subsequent industry updates indicate Wonder is already assembling a second season and courting brand tie-ins, while the teaser clocked more than 1.5 million views within its first 36 hours online.

Robert Carlyle is set to bring to life the legendary literary detective Sherlock Holmes in Season 2 of the CBS series Watson. Carlyle will appear in a recurring guest role, working opposite series lead Morris Chestnut, who plays Dr. John Watson.
The investigative medical drama is a modern version of one of history’s greatest detectives as he turns his attention from solving crimes to solving medical mysteries. While Watson’s team of “doc-tectives” may have defeated Moriarty (Randall Park) last season, they remain determined in Season 2 in their mission to investigate and treat the world’s rarest diseases for their clinic’s patients.
With his eyes fixed on the future, Watson faces an unexpected twist when Sherlock Holmes, who was presumed dead, resurfaces, forcing him to confront a buried secret from his past — one that lies hidden within his own body.

Britain, the 1980s. Thatcher. Black Monday. Riots. Strikes. Racism. In 1984, George Orwell’s 1984 became a bestseller again, slotting right into the nightmarish dystopia it had predicted. As unemployment figures soared, heroin addiction spread, as did HIV and AIDS. It was bloody miserable.
Then: 1988. Ecstasy, a drug promoting love and togetherness, arrived in the U.K., brought back from Ibiza — legend has it — by members of the Mancunian rock band New Order. The Second Summer of Love began. Two years later, Thatcher’s 15-year prime ministerial reign was over. Brit-pop happened.

One of this year’s biggest horror hits, 28 Years Later, is finally available to watch at home. Sony confirmed that the movie hit digital platforms on July 29. If you missed it in theaters, now’s your chance to see what all the buzz was about.
Directed by Danny Boyle, 28 Years Later continues the story that began with 28 Days Later back in 2002. The original movie helped redefine zombie horror, and this third entry brings the same energy, but with a darker and more emotional tone.
This one jumps decades ahead, showing what life looks like long after the rage virus first broke out. The story centers on a group of survivors trying to make it on a remote island while the rest of the world still suffers.
Boyle returned to direct, and he brought along a strong cast including Jodie Comer, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Ralph Fiennes, and newcomer Alfie Williams.

Danny Boyle is back pushing cinematic boundaries — and this time, he’s doing it with an iPhone. In an exclusive behind-the-scenes sneak peek from 28 Years Later, which becomes available to buy or rent on the Apple TV app today, Boyle breaks down how his team utilized the iPhone to film select scenes of the highly anticipated follow-up to his genre-defining zombie classic. The footage shows the Oscar-winning director experimenting with a custom 20-camera rig built around the iPhone, which allowed his crew to move with lightning speed and a level of agility not always possible with traditional camera systems. And watching the movie, you'd be staggered to think he's making this epic movie from the thing you keep in your pocket to play Candy Crush.

Who knew that one the best and most memorable movies of the year would be utterly unlike anything we expected it to be? "28 Years Later" (which we reviewed here) had all the makings of becoming merely the latest standard zombie movie, releasing at a time when nothing new could possibly be done with this post-apocalyptic genre. May we never doubt the dream team of director Danny Boyle and writer Alex Garland again, who joined forces once again to recreate the magic of the original "28 Days Later" over two decades after the fact. Instead of a hacky and superficial legacy sequel, we were given a soulful and meditative coming-of-age story about accepting the inevitability -- and even the beauty -- of death.

Prime time horror movie season has not even really started yet, but several films have already impressed critics and audiences. While the year started out slowly with a miss from Blumhouse with Wolf Man, things picked up with the releases of Companion and The Monkey.
The spring time was an even better spot for horror with the release of Ryan Coogler's Sinners. The highly original horror film made $365.8 million worldwide, and got great reviews from critics. The film is even in early talks to get Oscar nominations, which is a rare feat for a horror film.
Sinners was a big win, and then franchise horror had a big moment with Final Destination: Bloodlines. The film made $285.3 million and was touted as one of the best in the series.

In its sixth weekend of release, Sony's28 Years Laterpassed a trio of box office milestones as it prepares for a second coming on home video. The horror movie debuted to excellent critical response, but audiences were noticeably more divided on its meditative themes and child-led narrative. 28 Years Later serves as a legacy sequel to the original 28 Days Later, which took the world of genre cinema by storm over two decades ago. It was followed by a well-received sequel, titled 28 Weeks Later. Sony picked the new film up as a package, with director Danny Boyle and writer Alex Garland back in their original roles; wiser, more successful, and just as transgressive as ever.
This weekend, 28 Years Later passed the $70 million mark domestically and the $80 million mark in overseas territories, for a cumulative global haul of $150 million. This will likely be the final milestone that the movie passes,...

During the film’s panel at the Sdcc (via ScreenRant), Andy Weir revealed that he waited for screenplay artist Drew Goddard to finish working on his project so that he could start working on Project Hail Mary, which is set for a release date of March 20, 2026.
I couldn’t ask for better talent in every aspect… we waited for Drew… We had to wait several months for him to finish [the project].

Kate Middleton has a history of leaving people blown away simply by her presence, and Daniel Craig appears to have been yet another one falling victim to her charms.
According to royal editor Rebecca English via her official X handle, when he first got to meet her at the 2021 London premiere of the James Bond film No Time to Die, Craig reportedly greeted the Princess of Wales with the words:

28 Years Later, directed by Danny Boyle and written by Alex Garland, marks the long-awaited return to one of the most iconic apocalyptic franchises in cinema history. Picking up the threads of a ravaged Britain nearly three decades after the original Rage Virus outbreak, the film serves up a brutal exploration of trauma, survival, fractured families, and the evolution of both the infected and the survivors left in their wake.
As with its predecessors, 28 Years Later is haunting not just for its relentless action and grotesque infected, but for the existential questions it raises about what’s left of humanity when civilization collapses. The ending is as provocative as ever – both chilling and ambiguous, leaving us with a final shot and theme that fans and critics have hotly debated.

Danny Boyle and Alex Garland's long-awaited sequel 28 Years Later passed an important box office milestone in a relatively short timeframe, establishing it as easily the most successful movie in the franchise that began with 28 Days Later. Starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Jodie Comer, Ralph Fiennes, and Alfie Williams,28 Years Later debuted with strong Rotten Tomatoes scores and a box office opening to match.
The action picks up nearly three decades after the initial outbreak of the Rage Virus, which has been eradicated from mainland Europe since the breakout observed at the end of 28 Weeks Later. Great Britain is still ravaged by the virus, which has evolved and mutated over the years to yield multiple iterations of the Infected.
Since its wide release on June 20th, 2025, 28 Years Later has continued to slowly pile up box office revenue. According to The Numbers, 28 Years Later passed the $150 million box office milestone at the global box office,...

Sunday Update: Marvel/Disney’s The Fantastic Four: First Steps has come in with an estimated $218M global opening. While this is lower than where we saw it yesterday, it remains above the pre-weekend projection, both worldwide and in terms of international box office. The latter landed at $100M, the top end of our pre-opening projection.
The overseas debut is 13% ahead of Thunderbolts*, 11% ahead of Superman and 4% above Captain America: Brave New World in like-for-like markets at current rates. The Fantastic Four folks also scored the biggest superhero opening of 2025 in Mexico, the UK, France, Italy, Spain and the European and Latin American regions, as well as several smaller markets.
The offshore take of $100M is about 46% of the global total. Normally, in this genre, we see overseas numbers much higher than domestic, but that’s not been the case recently (see Superman‘s bow at 43% from overseas). Is it a sign of the times,...

28 Years Later Worldwide Box Office: Less Than $5M Away From Hitting A Significant Milestone( Photo Credit – Instagram )
28 Years Later has not lost at the box office amid the big tentpole movies. It has its target audience and is close to hitting its breakeven point, which is also the film’s next key milestone worldwide. Surviving amid such big releases is a huge feat in itself, and achieving milestones so long after the release is also commendable for this horror flick with a modest budget. Keep scrolling for more.
It is the standalone sequel to 28 Weeks Later and the third film in the 28 Days Later franchise. The Og director, Danny Boyle, and the film’s writer, Alex Garland, reunited for this third film. It registered the biggest opening weekend in the franchise, carrying forward the success legacy of the horror flicks this year after Sinners and Final Destination: Bloodlines.

After a successful theatrical debut, the much-anticipated horror sequel 28 Years Later—the latest chapter in Danny Boyle and Alex Garland’s iconic “rage virus” saga—now prepares to invade digital streaming platforms. Featuring Cillian Murphy’s return (sadly only as a producer for this one) and a star-studded ensemble, the film blends apocalyptic scares with human drama, keeping the franchise’s reputation for tension and societal commentary alive.
What is 28 Years Later About?
Set nearly three decades after the outbreak that devastated the UK, 28 Years Later explores survival amid the continuing threat of the rage virus. The story centers on a small group of survivors living on a fortified island. Connected by a single, well-defended causeway, this community lives under constant threat—not just from the infected, but from other survivors whose motives may be just as deadly. When one group member ventures onto the mainland, the mission uncovers new horrors,...

It's been over two decades since 28 Days Later, the film that revolutionized the zombie genre with a quickly-spreading virus and terrifying fast zombies. Now, with the franchise expanding, the original is rising to the top of the streaming charts.
Per Collider, 28 Days Later has now become one of the ten most-streamed movies on AMC+. It's currently in fifth place in the top ten. The Walking Dead: Dead City is also one of the most streamed titles on the platform.
28 Days Later can be considered as one of the pillars of the zombie movie genre. When it first came out in 2002, critics raved about it. "In a big-budget, star-studded summer, Boyle has made a cheap monster movie with a cast of nobodies, and it gives the first genuine jolt of the season," The National Post wrote in a since-deleted review, quoted on Rotten Tomatoes' critic reviews page for the film.
