Is Timothy Olyphant returning as James Stacy for The Continuing Adventures of Cliff Booth?
David Fincher
With David Fincher currently filming the spin-off to Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, The Continuing Adventures of Cliff Booth, we’re going to get a lot more reveals from the set – and that includes those returning from Quentin Tarantino’s film. There is still much to be revealed, but Timothy Olyphant may have let it slip that he is returning as James Stacy, the real-life actor who appeared in Lancer.

Olyphant recently appeared on Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend, where the topic of the Once Upon a Time in Hollywood spin-off was brought up, to which Olyphant mouthed, “I’m in it,” before asking, “Are they filming this?” He then followed that up with, “I don’t know, I don’t know, I don’t know!” The group offered to cut that part out, to which Olyphant replied, “I don’t know, let’s see. I’m hoping I’m in it.

Everyone Is Flocking to Disney+'s Scrapped 1-Season Fantasy Show You've Never Heard Of
Image
Disney+ may be regretting not giving the green light to a reimagining of a classic Jules Verne novel. Disney’s loss is seemingly AMC’s gain as the 10-part deep-sea adventure fantasy series is dominating the streaming charts.

FlixPatrol reports that AMC’s Nautilusis, as of Aug. 5, the No. 1 most-streamed show on AMC+.Nautilus is ahead of Monster Island, Hell Motel, and The Walking Dead: Dead City, which are in the No. 2, No. 3, and No. 4 spots in AMC+’s Top 10, respectively.

The series, based on the iconic 1870 novel Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea by Jules Verne, is a British production that Disney+ announced in 2021. Disney produced the original 1954 film, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, which starred Kirk Douglas and James Mason.

Nautilus stars Shazad Latif as Captain Nemo, and, per the series’ logline, it is “The origin story of the iconic Captain Nemo: An Indian Prince robbed of his birthright and family,...

Michael Douglas’ Retirement From Hollywood Backfires, Affects His Relationship With Catherine Zeta-Jones
Image
Michael Douglas’ retirement from Hollywood was meant to be a peaceful new chapter, but instead, it’s reportedly creating unexpected tension at home. Insiders close to the actor told RadarOnline that while Douglas hoped to enjoy more quality time with his wife, Catherine Zeta-Jones is finding it hard to adjust. Their relationship reportedly worked best when both had busy careers and time apart.

The marriage has worked best when they had space from each other. She’s not begrudging him the right to give up his career, but knows it means they’ll spend more time together and she’s not going to get the quiet and peace of mind she likes. Catherine encourages him to attend events on his own and travel, but he’s not doing much of that anymore. She’d like more space, but she’s not going to get it, and he’ll be around...

12 Best Michael Douglas Movies, Ranked
Image
Michael Kirk Douglas is the first of four sons born to Issur Danielovitch, who had already changed his name to the far more familiar Kirk Douglas. Yep, Michael Douglas can be considered a "nepo baby," whose famous father was a movie star for most of his life. Yet despite sharing the same last name and facial features as his old man, Douglas the son has carved a distinct path from Douglas the dad.

There's no disputing that Kirk launched Michael's career by helping him snag the rights to "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest," which landed him a Best Picture Oscar. There's also no denying that Michael has crafted a half-century-plus career arguably even greater than his famous father, with earnings of almost $4.5 billion worldwide box office and a Best Actor Oscar (which Kirk never won). Let's just say Michael wasn't on the A-list for decades because moviegoers liked his...

The 12 Best Kirk Douglas Movies, Ranked
Image
With a jaw chiseled from solid granite, an eagle-like, aquiline nose, a million-dollar smile, and a dime-sized dimple on his chin, he famously refused to remove despite studio pressure, Kirk Douglas looked like he was made in a lab to be a movie star. And what a movie star he was, with an astonishing 70-year career, most of it spent above the title. Heck, the dude even flirted with Anne Hathaway at the 83rd Annual Academy Awards in front of an international audience when he was 94 years old (I bet his blood type was testosterone). When Douglas passed away at 96 years old, he left behind a legacy as deep as the cleft in his chin, transcending the Golden Age of Hollywood into the New Hollywood and beyond.

Not bad considering he started life far from Hollywood as Issur Danielovitch, the son of Russian Jewish immigrants in eastern New York state,...

The 12 Best Movies And TV Shows Based On Jules Verne Books, Ranked
Image
Born in Nantes, France in 1928, Jules Verne was sent to Paris as a young man to study law, but fell in love with theatre. He wrote several plays, got married, worked as a stock broker, and continued to write on the side. Eventually, Verne had an epiphany: What if he combined his twin passions of adventure stories and scientific inquiry? You might say this was a "novel" concept in the mid-1800s. Verne's vision was realized when a publisher agreed to print Verne's "Voyages extraordinaires—Cinq semaines en ballon" ("Extraordinary Journeys: Five Weeks In A Balloon") in 1864. The serialized story became a bestseller, so Verne quit his job, writing "science fiction" for 40 years until his death in 1905.

"Extraordinary journeys" doesn't have the same ring as "sci-fi," but Verne is often called the "father of science fiction". Considering sci-fi stories dominate narrative storytelling, Verne can be considered the grandaddy of "Star Wars,...

Forget Diddy’s Tunnels, Will Smith Has an Alleged Secret Bunker That Can Save Him From Zombie Apocalypse
Image
Will Smith, the Fresh Prince himself, is now at the center of a Hollywood conspiracy unlike any other. A secret underground bunker hidden beneath Los Angeles, purportedly designed to shield him from a potential zombie apocalypse or societal collapse. This jaw-dropping claim comes not from tabloid scribbles but from none other than Tish Cyrus, mother of Miley Cyrus, who shared her conviction on Harry Jowsey’s podcast Boyfriend Material (via Daily Mail).

During a candid chat with her daughter Brandi, Tish dropped the bombshell that she believes Smith possesses a fortified refuge underground in LA, a vault of safety against dark times looming on the horizon.

I’ve heard the LA tunnels are real. I heard Will Smith has a whole underground bunker in LA.

Brandi initially greeted the notion with skepticism but quickly shifted gears, affirming:

I believe it.

Tish insisted that what many label as “conspiracy theories” are...

The Kirk Douglas Sci-Fi Flop That Roger Ebert Absolutely Hated
Image
Film critics watch hundreds of movies every year, and invariably get a little cranky when they hit a patch of lousy movies. So it is occasionally therapeutic to take out one's frustrations on a film that is egregiously putrid — particularly if that film is from a serial befouler of movie theaters (I think I logged 12 blissfully uninterrupted hours of sleep after filing my pan of Paul W.S. Anderson's "Death Race").

Scathingly negative reviews are not often illuminating, but when written by masters of the craft, they can be immensely satisfying reads. When The New Yorker's Pauline Kael got a burr in her saddle, she could inveigh at length or fire off a one-sentence kill-shot (her full review of Herbert Ross' "Steel Magnolias" was published as follows: "Chalk scraping across a chalkboard for two hours"). Roger Ebert was also practiced in the skill of invective, as he demonstrated in his...

The 8 Michael Douglas movies that deserved more Oscar love
Image
Gordon Gekko has (mostly) left the building. Michael Douglas made headlines over the weekend when he announced the he would be stepping back from acting during an appearance at the Karlovy Vary Film Festival in the Czech Republic.

"I have not worked since 2022 purposefully because I realized I had to stop," said the veteran actor and producer, who last appeared onscreen in 2023's Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. "I had been working pretty hard for almost 60 years, and I did not want to be one of those people who dropped dead on the set. I have no real intentions of going back."

At the same time, Douglas acknowledged that — just like Sean Connery — he's going to be careful about never saying never again. "I say I’m not retired because if something special came up, I’d go back, but otherwise, no."

Douglas attended Karlovy Vary to screen a restored...

Movie Poster of the Week: The Best of Movie Poster of the Day Part 30
Image
Japanese chirashi for La chimera. Designer unknown.Totting up the most-liked posters on my Movie Poster of the Day Instagram over the first six months of 2025, the surprise winner, with over 4,000 likes on one day, was a Japanese chirashi for Alice Rohrwacher's La chimera (2023). I put its popularity down to the Josh O’Connor fan base, or for the film itself, though it is a lovely, colorful design. The second and third places, with over a couple thousand likes each, went to two designs that I posted in tribute to David Lynch upon his passing in January: the original poster for Eraserhead (1977) and a beautiful Japanese poster for The Straight Story (1999). There are actually three Japanese posters in the top four, number three being a zippy design for Charade (1963), which I posted in April in celebration of what would have been its director Stanley Donen’s 101st birthday. And the one-sheet...

Everything We Know About Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Odyssey’
Image
As casting announcements continue to roll in, speculation and excitement has only grown surrounding Christopher Nolan’s follow-up to his critical and box office hit “Oppenheimer,” which won him the Academy Award for best director.

“The Odyssey” is a classic piece of literature by Homer that is divided between 24 different books, preceded by “The Iliad.” It tells the 10-year journey story of Odysseus, king of Ithaca, as he travels home after the Trojan War. Along the way, he encounters multiple perils and discovers the death of his crewmates. Telemachus (Odysseus’ son), Penelope (Odysseus’ wife), Athena, Circe, Poseidon and Zeus are all major characters.

Historians and scholars date “The Odyssey” to sometime between 750-650 BC. The first printed Greek version became available in 1488. In the centuries since, it has remained one of the most studied, adapted and parodied stories ever with adaptations including the 1911 silent film by Giuseppe de Liguoro, 1954’s...

Michael Madsen, Star Of Reservoir Dogs And Kill Bill, Dies Aged 67
Image
Michael Madsen, longtime collaborator of Quentin Tarantino and star of over 300 films and TV shows — including the likes of Reservoir Dogs, Kill Bill, and Donnie Brasco — has sadly died at the age of 67. As confirmed to THR by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, the iconic actor was found unresponsive at his Malibu home this morning following a suspected cardiac arrest.

Born in Chicago, Illinois on 25 September, 1957 to a war veteran-turned-firefighter father and an Emmy award winning mother, Michael Madsen spent much of his childhood moving from place to place due to his mum's work, getting into scrapes and testing authority as the perpetual new kid in class. Amid a childhood the man himself once described to The LA Times as "chaotic and diversified" however, young Michael found artistic inspiration on the box, devouring classics starring the likes of Humphrey Bogart, Robert Mitchum, and Kirk Douglas — a trio of actors...

The Odyssey: HD Version Of Leaked Teaser Now Online Along With New Theatrical Poster
Image
The first teaser trailer for Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey is now playing in theaters ahead of Jurassic World Rebirth, and, as expected, some poor-quality leaks have been doing the rounds online since yesterday afternoon.

Universal has been working hard to ensure that the leaks are removed from social media almost as quickly as they go up, but an HD version of the teaser has now been uploaded via an international site.

The teaser doesn't reveal very much, but we do get a first glimpse of two main characters, some sweeping shots of the ocean and the beaches of Troy, and what appears to be the remains of the legendary Trojan Horse, which the Achaeans used to infiltrate the city.

The footage begins with a voiceover, before cutting to Tom Holland's Telemachus discussing his father's disappearance with Jon Bernthal's mysterious character (likely an ally of Odysseus' from the...

11 Second- and Third-Generation Actors Who Took Wildly Different Paths Than Their Famous Parents
Image
Hollywood has always been a family business.

One generation’s A-lister often leads to another’s breakout role — sometimes riding on a wave of familiar last names, other times actively ducking the spotlight.

But legacy doesn’t guarantee sameness. In fact, that’s where things get interesting.

(Jasper Savage/Prime Video)

While some actors seem molded in the image of their famous parents, others flip the script entirely.

They avoid the genre, tone, or polish that made their families household names — carving a quieter, quirkier, or downright chaotic path all their own. That contrast, that break from expectation, is where the fun begins.

Jaws, and the films you watched too young
Image
A pick of our favourite reader responses to a question raised by Jaws’ 50th anniversary: which films did you watch at too young an age…?

Last week, in the wake of Jaws’ 50th anniversary, we asked: what films did you see at too young an age? For this writer it was – surprise, surprise – the TV premiere of the aforementioned 1975 shark thriller, which made such an impression on my four year-old mind that I refused to paddle in the sea for months afterwards.

“It was Jaws for me too,” says Film Stories reader Big Dunc. “I was seven when it was on TV for the first time, and I made it as far as the head popping out of the boat. I then took myself to bed but couldn’t sleep because I was too freaked out. I’m pretty sure I slept with the light on for a few weeks after that.

‘Nautilus’: Shazad Latif Teases ‘Full Revenge Mode’ Captain Nemo in New Take on Jules Verne Adventure
Image
Jules Verne’s classic novel Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea has been the subject of a handful of Hollywood interpretations, from the 1954 James Mason and Kirk Douglas Disney original to the 1997 Patrick Dempsey and Michael Caine TV miniseries. It even was a major Disney World attraction from 1971 to 1994, where guests could take their own underwater adventure and see mythical creatures within the park’s lagoon. Now a new adventure awaits viewers in AMC‘s action-drama Nautilus, which shares the origin story of the famed Captain Nemo, an Indian prince robbed of his birthright and family, who was taken prisoner and is now out for revenge. The 10-episode adventure is inspired by Verne’s book and follows Nemo’s (Shazad Latif) escape from prison and quest to seek justice upon the people who wronged him and his family. Get an exclusive look at the action ahead in the Nautilus clip above.

The Odyssey: Christopher Nolan's Adaptation Rumored To Be Hit With An R-Rating
Image
According to a new rumor from Mttsh, Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey will be rated R.

This would be a somewhat surprising development. Though Homer's poem certainly features enough violence, sex and other elements to warrant an R-rated adaptation, we had assumed that Universal would prefer a PG-13 in order to appeal to the widest audience possible and maximize profits.

The studio might well have pushed for the more family-friendly rating, but at the end of the day, Nolan is a filmmaker who is in a position to make any type of movie he damn well pleases at this stage!

It's also worth keeping in mind that Nolan's last movie with the studio was the R-rated Oppenheimer, which went on to gross just short of $1 billion worldwide and won several Academy Awards.

The first teaser for The Odyssey is expected to screen ahead of Jurassic World: Rebirth, so we...

Michael Douglas, Cameron Douglas’ ‘Looking Through Water’ Lands Summer Release (Exclusive)
Image
Michael Douglas and real-life son Cameron Douglas are set to reunite on the big screen.

Good Deed Entertainment has acquired domestic rights to Looking Through Water — a family drama feature starring Michael Douglas — and is planning a late summer theatrical release, The Hollywood Reporter has learned exclusively. Roberto Sneider helmed the film that co-stars Cameron Douglas alongside Walker Scobell, David Morse, Michael Stahl-David, Ximena Romo and Tamara Tunie.

Looking Through Water centers on a father who attempts to bond with his estranged son by teaming up with him for a father-son fishing competition.

Sneider (Tear This Heart Out) directed the movie from a script by Rowdy Herrington (director of the original Road House) and Zach Dean (Fast X). Hailing from Aeth Entertainment, the project is based on the novels Catching Big Fish and Looking Through Water from author Bob Rich, who executive produces.

Producers include Robert Mitas, Stan Spry, Carla Woods and Eric Woods.

Michael Douglas To Present Newly Restored ‘One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest’ At Karlovy Vary
Image
Michael Douglas is set to attend this year’s Karlovy Vary International Film Festival where he will present a newly restored version of Miloš Forman’s One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, which Douglas produced with Saul Zaentz.

Douglas will be joined by Zaentz’s nephew Paul Zaentz (producer of The English Patient and The Talented Mr. Ripley) as well as members of Forman’s family, to present the restored version of the 1975 classic at a special gala screening as part of Karlovy Vary’s “Out of the Past” section this year.

Forman’s One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest celebrates its 50th anniversary this year. The Jack Nicholson starrer, which was originally announced in 1962 with Kirk Douglas attached, ended up winning five Oscars, including Best Picture, Best Actor (Nicholson), Best Actress (Louise Fletcher), Best Director (Forman) and Best Screenplay (Lawrence Hauben and Bo Goldman).

Michael Douglas, In Taormina To Receive Career Honor, Apologizes For U.S. Role In Ongoing Global Conflicts: “This Is The Worst Time That I Can Ever Remember”
Image
Oscar-winning actor and producer Michael Douglas helped kick off the Taormina Film Festival here in Sicily, speaking candidly during a press conference ahead of accepting a Lifetime Achievement award on opening night.

A longtime activist, Douglas was spurred on to advocate for nuclear disarmament by his involvement in 1979’s China Syndrome. While he was in Taormina on Tuesday to reflect on his career and celebrate the 50th anniversary of One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, a question inevitably was posed to him about the state of the world today amid ongoing global conflicts.

Said Douglas, “Since this is a film festival and since it’s very difficult to spend five minutes not mentioning ‘the big T,’ I prefer not to get into this.” However, he continued, “I was born at the end of World War II, but in my lifetime, this is the worst time that I can ever remember.

Why The Kirk Douglas Movie Paths Of Glory Was Banned In Several Countries
Image
There will always be an appetite for movies about World War II. It's a classic story of good versus evil, which is obviously reductive of actual history, but when has Hollywood ever cared about that? World War I, on the other hand, provides no easy narratives. It is, to put it simply, a war about nothing. The great powers of the early 20th century had an arsenal of shiny new toys, and the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand ignited a powder keg of international tension and unleashed their weapons of mass destruction.

There are no good guys and bad guys in World War I, with soldiers and citizens alike caught in the middle of a petty squabble between their nationalist leaders. It's not surprising then that there are fewer World War I movies. The few we have received over the last couple of years, like "All Quiet on the Western Front" and "1917,...

Michael Douglas to Receive Lifetime Achievement Award at Taormina Film Festival
Michael Douglas
Michael Douglas, the Academy Award–winning actor and producer, will be the guest of honor at Italy’s Taormina Film Festival on June 10, when a newly restored print of One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest screens in the festival’s 8,000-seat Greek amphitheater to mark the film’s 50th anniversary. At 80, Douglas will receive a lifetime achievement award in recognition of a career that spans more than five decades and encompasses both leading-man performances and key producing credits.

Festival artistic director Tiziana Rocca said she was “thrilled to welcome Michael Douglas to Taormina” and praised him as “an icon of world cinema, actor and producer extraordinaire, whose work has resonated across generations”. Rocca added that her admiration extended to his family’s legacy, recalling an emotional evening she organized in Rome to honor his father, screen legend Kirk Douglas.

When Stanley Kubrick Took On A Studio Film He Couldn’t Fully Control — But It Ended Up Saving His Career!
Image
Stanley Kubrick Filming His Least Favorite Movie ( Photo Credit – Instagram )

Stanley Kubrick didn’t set out to be anyone’s hired hand, but the industry had other ideas. The late director, who was infamous for having total creative control and methodical perfection, found himself in a tight spot after The Killing and Paths of Glory brought him critical praise without box office results.

While he was well aware of his immense talent, it was a harsh truth that talent alone didn’t cover his rent or repay loans. Subsequently, Kubrick found himself scraping by on borrowed money from his producing partner.

Stanley Kubrick’s Reluctant Studio Gig

Hollywood loves a story where a promising filmmaker gets plucked from the indie world and handed the keys to a blockbuster. Sometimes, it works out, but most of the time, it doesn’t, as the path isn’t always smooth.

Mara Corday, Star of ‘Tarantula’ and Lots of Westerns, Dies at 95

Mara Corday, who was menaced by a huge hairy spider in the cult horror film Tarantula and appeared in several films thanks to Clint Eastwood, whom she called a “godsend,” has died. She was 95.

Corday died Feb. 9 at her home in Valencia, California, according to a death certificate filed with the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health that was obtained by The Washington Post. The cause was arteriosclerotic cardiovascular disease.

What Did Dalton Trumbo Do to Get Blacklisted and the Reason Is Not Similar to Why Kevin Spacey Is Struggling in Hollywood
Image
At the 2025 Cannes Film Festival, Kevin Spacey accepted an award and made a bold comparison that raised a lot of eyebrows. In his speech, he compared his fall from Hollywood pedastal to the blacklisting of Dalton Trumbo, the acclaimed screenwriter who was barred from the industry during the anti-Communist hysteria of the late 1940s.

On the surface, both stories involve men cast out by Hollywood. But dig a little deeper, and the differences become clear. Trumbo was targeted for his political beliefs and his refusal to betray others. Spacey’s situation, however, comes from multiple allegations of sexual misconduct. To understand why these stories aren’t the same, we need to revisit Trumbo’s story first.

Why Dalton Trumbo was blacklisted from Hollywood!

Dalton Trumbo was one of Hollywood’s most successful and respected screenwriters in the 1940s. Before he became a target of political persecution, he had already written...

Originally released in 1978, The Deer Hunter stars Robert De Niro, Christopher Walken and Meryl Streep, and is widely regarded as one of the most significant American films of the 20th century. Set before, during and after the Vietnam War, the film traces the psychological and emotional impact of conflict on a group of steelworkers from Pennsylvania. Cimino’s ambitious and often divisive work won Best Picture and Best Director at the Oscars and remains a key title in any examination of American post-war cinema.

Image
Kevin Spacey compared his own career collapse to victims of the Hollywood blacklist of the mid-20th Century on Tuesday as he accepted an award at the Cannes Film Festival, where the Better World Fund Gala honored the two-time Oscar winner the Award for Excellence in Film and Television.

“I’d like to congratulate [Better World Fund founder Manuel Collas de La Roche] for the decision to invite me here tonight to accept this award,” the “House of Cards” actor said. “Who would have ever thought that honoring someone who has been exonerated in every court room he’s ever walked into would be thought of as a brave idea. But here we are.”

The Better World Fund is an organization that says it has “brought together celebrities, artists and leaders from all around the world, fueled by the desire to positively influence the future of our society.” It is unrelated to the festival.

Kevin Spacey Tears Up, Quotes ‘Friend’ Elton John in Fiery Cannes Speech About Blacklisting: ‘I’m Still Standing’
Image
Kevin Spacey delivered a lengthy and fiery speech in Cannes on Tuesday evening, marking his first visit to the city during its global film gathering in almost a decade and since being found not guilty on sexual assault charges.

Spacey was speaking at a gala held by the Better World Fund, unaffiliated with the festival but where he was presented with an “engagement award.” The organization’s president Manuel Collas de la Roche said that two-time Oscar winner actor embodied the “powerful interaction between art and influence.”

On stage after accepting the honor, Spacey spoke for almost 10 minutes, during which he likened his own ousting from Hollywood to the blacklisting of screenwriter Dalton Trumbo and became emotional as he praised his “best friend” and manager Evan Lowenstein. Through Lowenstein, he said he had “come out the other side of these last few challenging years not angry, not bitter, not resentful,...

Mario Kassar: How Ted Kotcheff Got ’80s Juggernaut Carolco Going & How Close Tom Cruise Came To Playing Jim Morrison Over Val Kilmer
Image
Exclusive: I caught up with Carolco co-founder Mario Kassar, who had two recently deceased artists on his mind, and how they helped shape his highest-flying foreign sales company of the ‘80s. That would be director Ted Kotcheff, who essentially launched Carolco with First Blood, and Val Kilmer on The Doors, playing the iconic singer Jim Morrison even though Tom Cruise was desperate to play The Lizard King.

Kotcheff was integral in First Blood, even as the pic almost imploded when Sylvester Stallone decided his Rambo character wasn’t going to die, like in the book and the script. The film’s financing was structured heavily around Kirk Douglas, who on the morning of shooting, was set as Rambo’s handler Col Trautman. Determined that his character had to put his tortured Vietnam vet protégé out of his misery, Douglas was aghast at the Frankenstein monster he created, and the actor...

Kaitlyn Dever’s Harrowing Turn in ‘The Last of Us’ Qualifies for Guest Acting and Supporting Categories (Exclusive)
Image
Spoiler Alert: This story contains spoilers from “Through the Valley”, the second episode of “The Last of Us” Season 2, now streaming on Max.

Kaitlyn Dever delivered a chilling, emotionally devastating performance in Sunday night’s episode of HBO/Max’s “The Last of Us,” immediately propelling her into the center of the Emmy conversation. The acclaimed actress was featured prominently in what may be the season’s most talked-about hour, and has industry insiders debating about her category placement ahead of the official submission deadline.

Variety has learned exclusively that Dever qualifies for the guest actress in a drama series category, as she appears in fewer than 50% of the season’s eligible episodes. However, a final decision has yet to be made. HBO/Max awards strategists, along with Dever’s team, are still weighing whether to submit her in guest actress, where she would compete against co-star Catherine O’Hara, or...

‘The Brutalist’ Revives Interest in VistaVision, a Format with an Aesthetic All Its Own, at TCM Festival
Image
VistaVision is back. Brady Corbet’s “The Brutalist” not only earned Lol Crawley the Best Cinematography Oscar but has sparked a renewed interest in the format — one that is now being further fanned by unconfirmed reports of the 35mm horizontal format also being used in Paul Thomas Anderson’s “One Battle After Another,” Yorgos Lanthimos’ “Bugonia,” Alejandro González Iñárritu’s untitled 2026 film, and Emerald Fennell’s “Wuthering Heights.”

The timing is perfect, therefore, for the TCM Classic Film Festival to screen two rare Paramount VistaVision prints of “We’re No Angels” (1955) and “Gunfight at the O.K. Corral” (1957) on April 26 at the Tcl Chinese Theater. What’s more, the movies will be projected with special horizontal projectors, which haven’t been used since the 1950s.

Crawley will introduce “Gunfight,” the Western from director John Sturges (“The Magnificent Seven”), which teams Burt Lancaster as Wyatt Earp and Kirk Douglas as Doc Holliday, and Charlotte Barker,...

4K Uhd Blu-ray Review: Lucio Fulci’s ‘Don’t Torture a Duckling’ on Arrow Video
Image
Lucio Fulci’s Don’t Torture a Duckling is a haunting depiction of a series of child murders. It’s also something of a rare bird within the giallo genre, as it doesn’t take place in an urban setting (think the second half of Sergio Martino’s Torso), and the shocking subject matter could be considered fairly radical for early-’70s Italy, given the repressive climate of the era fostered by religious institutions and political regimes. It also displays a thematically resonant twist when it finally reveals the identity of the murderer.

The main characters in Don’t Torture a Duckling are all outsiders in one way or another. The requisite amateur detective is Andrea Martelli (Tomas Milian), a bit-city reporter who swoops down on rural Accendura looking for his next big break, sort of like Kirk Douglas in Billy Wilder’s Ace in the Hole. Nudist and resident temptress Patrizia...

Thierry Frémont, Ling Cooper Tang, Tyrone Ngatai, Kayden Price, Céline Menville, Georgia Flood, Pacharo Mzembe, and Shazad Latif in Nautilus (2024)
Get ready to set sail on adventure, as AMC has confirmed when American audiences can finally watch Nautilus!

Among the many science fiction classics, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea holds a special place. Jules Verne’s 1870 novel was far ahead of its time on undersea exploration via a massive submarine called the Nautilus, captained by the renegade Captain Nemo.

The tale has been adapted numerous times, most notably in 1954’s Disney version starring Kirk Douglas and Paul Mason as Nemo. There have been other takes on it from movies to ABC’s Once Upon a Time.

Now, at last, American audiences have a peek at a prequel series, Nautilus. TV Line confirms that the series will premiere Sunday, June 29 at 9/8c on AMC and AMC+, with its first two episodes. Additional episodes will premiere weekly on Sundays, leading to a double-episode season finale on Aug. 17.

The show has an interesting history.

A Hollywood Legend Was a Huge Pain While Guest Starring on ‘The Simpsons’
Image
Countless celebrities have lent their vocal talents to The Simpsons over the past 36 years, including several legit old Hollywood icons such as Elizabeth Taylor, Jack Lemmon and an 89-year-old Bob Hope, whose dialogue was recorded at his Silver Lake home with the help of a young Conan O’Brien.

But perhaps the most prominent Simpsons role to be played by a classic film star was Chester J. Lampwick, the impoverished creator of The Itchy & Scratchy Show’s Itchy, who was voiced by three-time Oscar nominee Kirk Douglas. And really, no scene in Spartacus comes close to the passionate rebellion Douglas showcases as Lampwick while refusing to paint Grampa Simpson’s chicken coop because the corn muffins he was compensated with were “lousy.”

But the late Douglas wasn’t always the easiest person to work with. He was labelled “difficult” by frequent co-star Burt Lancaster, and fought so bitterly with director Stanley Kubrick...

The Batman Star Robert Pattinson's The Odyssey Character Reportedly Revealed
Image
As filming continues on Christopher Nolan's star-studded adaptation of Homer's The Odyssey in Favignana, Italy, we may have word on the character another key cast member will play in the movie.

According to Italian magazine Chi, Robert Pattinson will portray Hermes.

In ancient Greek mythology, Hermes was a mischievous deity who was known as the herald and messenger of the Olympian gods, often tasked with delivering messages and guiding souls to the underworld. He was also associated with trade, luck, fertility, animal husbandry, sleep, language, thieves, and travel.

Only Matt Damon's role as Odysseus has been confirmed, but it's believed that Tom Holland will take on the role of his son, Telemachus, with Zendaya as the goddess Athena.

Greek media site OneMan.com recently shed some light on which mythological heroes and villains a good chunk of the other actors will play.

Just in case some of these...

The Odyssey Set Photos Reveal Spider-man Star Tom Holland In-Costume As Telemachus(?)
Image
As filming continues on Christopher Nolan's star-studded adaptation of The Odyssey in Favignana, Italy, these latest photos from the set give us a first look at Tom Holland in-costume.

The Spider-Man: No Way Home star is believed to be playing Odysseus' (Matt Damon) son, Telemachus, though this has yet to be confirmed.

In Homer's poem, father and son spend the majority of the story apart, and only reunite right at the end. Since these photos appear to be taken from the same location Damon and Zendaya were spotted in earlier this week, there's a good chance Favignana will double for the island of Ithaca.

Holland's Spider-Man was expected to play a key role in Avengers: Doomsday, but the actor wasn't included in Marvel Studios' recent cast reveal. Though Parker could still show up (we know the entire cast wasn't unveiled), Holland simply may not have been available...

68 Years Ago, Stanley Kubrick Turned a Forgotten Book Into 1 of the Best WWI Movies Ever
Image
Long before Stanley Kubrick made waves with book adaptations like The Shining and A Clockwork Orange, he directed one of the most powerful anti-war stories of all time. Based on Humphry Cobb’s book, Paths of Glory is a powerful anti-war drama that explores the futility of battle. But, in true Kubrick style, the film condemns war by creatively dissecting the power structures that sustain it.

Paths of Glory is less about the battlefield and more about the forces pulling the strings behind the scenes: the generals who see soldiers as disposable, the bureaucratic system that turns life-and-death decisions into calculated operations, and the ethical compromises made in the name of victory. Kubrick shifts the spotlight from combat to corruption, making a war film where the real enemy is the system itself.

Paths of Glory Explores the Machinations Behind War

In 1916, during the First World War in Northern France, French...

The Odyssey: Matt Damon's Odysseus Prepares To Face Polyphemus The Cyclops In New Set Photos
Image
Some more photos from the set of Christopher Nolan's adaptation of The Odyssey have been doing the rounds online, and this time we have another look at Matt Damon's Odysseus as he prepares to enter the cave of the Cyclops known as Polyphemus.

Filming for these scenes is taking place at Nestor’s Cave in Greece, and we have heard that a 6x6m mechanical animatronic puppet of Polyphemus was created for the sequence.

Unfortunately, we don't have any shots of the monster himself, but we'll be sure to update if any find their way online.

In the original story, Polyphemus was the son of Poseidon, god of the sea, and the nymph Thoösa. Odysseus and his men were captured by the cyclops when they were cast ashore on the coast of Sicily. Polyphemus devoured several of Odysseus' companions before the legendary hero managed to blind the giant...

This Movie Legend’s Cameo on ‘The Simpsons’ ‘Lived Up to Everything You Would Expect’
Image
Who’s the most legendary movie icon to lend a voice on The Simpsons?

Given the show’s 36 seasons, there’s plenty of competition for that accolade, including Meryl Streep, Dustin Hoffman and Kirk Douglas. But for pure Hollywood glamour, it’s hard to beat Elizabeth Taylor, the voice behind Maggie Simpson’s first word. “She lived up to everything you would expect Elizabeth Taylor to be,” Simpsons executive producer Al Jean told Entertainment Weekly in 2011. “She came in, she had a little dog, and she wore her ring, which was huge. It cost more than my house.”

Everyone on The Simpsons remembers the huge crowd of staffers that showed up on the day that Taylor recorded Maggie’s first word. “Liz created the biggest stir of any guest we’ve had on the show,” remembered writer Mike Reiss in his book Springfield Confidential. “Three hundred people packed our tiny...

The Odyssey: Reported Character Leak May Reveal Which Heroes & Villains Most Of The Main Actors Will Play
Image
Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey is now filming in Greece, and the Oppenheimer director has assembled one of the most impressive casts we've seen in quite a while for his upcoming adaptation of Homer's epic poem.

We know that Matt Damon will take on the lead role of Odysseus, but the characters the rest of the starry cast are playing have been kept under wraps... until now.

Though some key cast members are not listed (Jon Bernthal, for example), Greek media site OneMan.com is claiming to have shed some light on which mythological heroes and villains a good chunk of the other actors will portray.

Just in case some of these roles are supposed to be a surprise, here's your possible spoiler warning.

Tom Holland will reportedly play Odysseus' son Telemachus (as expected), with Zendaya as Goddess of Wisdom Athena, Charlize Theron as Goddess of Sorcery Circe, Anne Hathaway as Odysseus' wife Penelope,...

‘I’m Still Here’ Wins Oscar for Best International Feature Film
Image
“I’m Still Here,” Walter Salles’ searing drama about the life of Brazilian lawyer and activist Eunice Paiva, has triumphed at the 97th annual Academy Awards to win Best International Feature Film. Salles, along with the producers of his film, took the stage at the ceremony at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood to receive the prize, as presented by Penelope Cruz.

A previous nominee for his film “Central Station” in 1998, Salles gave a short and concise speech during the ceremony, focusing on shedding light on the real history that the film spotlights and its anti-authoritarian themes. In addition, he thanked his leading lady Fernanda Torres as well as her mother Fernanda Montenegro, both of whom appear in the film playing the main character, Brazllian lawyer and activist Eunice Paiva, at different stages of her life.

“I’m so honored to receive this, and in such an extraordinary group of filmmakers,” Salles said in his acceptance speech.
