Bruce Springsteen’s 2025 Oscar Race Is Getting an Early Start with Academy Honor
Image
Bruce Springsteen was “Born to Run” into the 2025 Oscars race.

As The Boss gears up for the release of his much-anticipated biopic “Deliver Me from Nowhere” later this year, the iconic singer is already set to be honored during the fifth annual Academy Museum Gala. The timing couldn’t be better: The Academy Museum Gala will take place October 18, with “Deliver Me from Nowhere” arriving in theaters in October 24. Springsteen will be portrayed by Jeremy Allen White, with Jeremy Strong, Paul Walter Hauser, Stephen Graham, Marc Maron, Gaby Hoffmann, and David Krumholtz also starring in the ’80s-set feature.

The Academy Museum Gala recognition further ushers in the presumed Springsteen mania of this upcoming awards season. Springsteen will receive the museum’s inaugural Legacy Award and is also set for a live performance at the ceremony. The Legacy Award “honors an artist whose body of work has inspired generations of storytellers and deeply influenced our culture,...

Meghan Markle Hints At Jealousy Towards Lauren Sanchez
Image
It looks like there can only be one female celebrity in the spotlight at a time and unfortunately, it’s not Meghan Markle.

Meghan Markle Hints At Jealousy Towards Lauren Sanchez

Of course, we are talking about Meghan Markle as there’s heavy speculation suggesting that she might be more than just a little jealous towards Lauren Sanchez.

And that’s not just because she and her husband Prince Harry were not invited to Lauren and her new husband Jeff Bezos’s ultra glam wedding in Venice. It might also be because of all the attention that the newlyweds have been getting because of it.

In fact, a lot of people couldn’t help but notice the timing of Meghan’s new Instagram story that she happened to post during the same time that everyone has been talking about Lauren Sanchez and her wedding dress.

It’s almost identical to...

Lauren Sanchez’s Wedding Dress: What Is the Cost of the Ring Jeff Bezos Gave Her?
Image
Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez got married in Venice, Italy, in the presence of some of their famous celebrity friends. Sanchez wore a custom Dolce & Gabbana gown for the wedding, while Bezos wore a black tuxedo from the same brand. Celebrities, including the Kardashians, Tom Brady, Orlando Bloom, Barack Obama, and Oprah Winfrey, attended the wedding.

Bezos and Sanchez had arranged for the celebrity guests to stay in rooms in the Aman Hotel, Gritti Palace, St. Regis, Belmond Cipriani, and Hotel Danieli. According to Associated Press, the couple sourced 80% of the provisions for the wedding from local vendors. However, protestors continue to claim that the wedding party would ruin the heritage of the city.

Long Before Indiana Jones, John Wayne Starred In His Own Treasure-Hunting Adventure Movie
Image
When Indiana Jones debuted in 1981's "Raiders of the Lost Ark" (still the best Indiana Jones movie) he represented something entirely new yet distinctly recognizable. At least, he was recognizable to anyone who'd grown up in the decades prior to his arrival. Indy creator George Lucas and director of the first four movies, Steven Spielberg, have made no secret of the inspirations behind Henry Jones Jr. Aside from the adventure serials of the 1930s, 40s, and 50s, the character's look was influenced by Humphrey Bogart's character in "Treasure of the Sierra Madre." But Charlton Heston's Harry Steele in 1954 's "Secret of the Incas" is arguably the most Indiana Jones-like figure from that era, with his large fedora and brown leather jacket providing a blueprint for Harrison Ford's intrepid archeologist. It wasn't just Bogart and Heston that formed part of the genesis of Indiana Jones, though. Lucas was...

When Charlie Chaplin’s Final Film Left Marlon Brando Shattered Because Of This Reason: “The Most Sadistic Man I’d Ever Met”
Image
Marlon Brando Was Devastated by His Experience on Charlie Chaplin’s Final Film (Photo Credit – Prime Video/Wikipedia)

Charlie Chaplin was about to call cut for the very last time in 1966. The legend of the silent film era and the man whose moustache spoke volumes without uttering a word was about to direct his swan song, A Countess from Hong Kong. For that, he needed a man who could ooze charm effortlessly, and so Chaplin went after Marlon Brando.

Why Marlon Brando Agreed To A Role That Made Him Nervous

For all his reputation as Hollywood’s brooding crown jewel, Brando couldn’t resist the offer. The idea of working with Chaplin, an idol from his childhood and a man he saw as nothing short of a comedic god, was too good to pass up. “I figured he must know something I didn’t, that he thought I could add...

Image
Terry Louise Fisher, the former Los Angeles assistant district attorney who put her legal expertise to work when she teamed with Steven Bochco to create the acclaimed NBC drama L.A. Law, has died. She was 79.

Fisher lived in the Laguna Beach area and died Tuesday, family member Mark Zev Hochberg wrote on Facebook.

The Chicago native began her career in television in 1983 as a writer-producer on the second season of Cagney & Lacey. She worked alongside writing partner Steve Brown on the iconic CBS series for three seasons through 1985, and they returned for a pair of reunion telefilms in 1994 and ’95.

Fisher and Bochco also created the ABC dramedy Hooperman, starring John Ritter as a San Francisco police inspector. That 20th Century Fox Television series lasted two seasons (1987-89).

L.A. Law, revolving around the fictional law firm McKenzie, Brackman, Chaney and Kuzak, ran eight seasons from 1986-94 and collected 15 Emmys, including four for outstanding drama series.

Terry Louise Fisher, Co-Creator of ‘L.A. Law,’ Dies At 79
Image
Terry Louise Fisher, a three-time Emmy winning writer and producer known for co-creating “L.A. Law,” died on Tuesday in Laguna Hills, Calif. She was 79.

Her cousin, Sharone Rosen, reported that Fisher had died in her sleep from a long, undisclosed illness.

Fisher was the co-creator of the popular legal drama “L.A. Law” with Steven Bocho. She served as a supervising producer and writer for most of the series’ early episodes. Fisher’s writing for “L.A. Law” won her a shared Primetime Emmy Award in 1987, and two additional shared nominations in 1988. She was also known for writing and producing “Cagney & Lacey” from 1982 to 1987, for which she also received an Emmy.

Martin Scorsese, Catherine Deneuve, Michael Douglas Among Star Guests at Taormina Film Festival
Image
Martin Scorsese, Michael Douglas, Catherine Deneuve, Helen Hunt and Olivia Wilde are among the guests at the 71st edition of the Taormina Film Festival in Sicily, which runs June 10-14.

Scorsese, who will receive a lifetime achievement award, will be honored in the evocative location of the ancient Greek theater, which boasts a view of the currently active volcano Etna. A screening of “Taxi Driver” will celebrate the occasion.

“Scorsese is much more than a filmmaker — he is a living legend, whose unique cinematic voice has explored the human soul, social complexity, and raw emotion with unmatched power and elegance,” Tiziana Rocca, the artistic director of the festival, said.

Scorsese is working on documentary “The Shipwrecks of Sicily,” which follows the work of underwater archeologist Lisa Briggs, who uses the latest scientific techniques to bring to life the history of the sailors and ships that have sunk off the coast of the island.

Audrey Hepburn, Elizabeth Taylor, Tom Cruise Among the Hollywood Stars to Have Been Feted at Taormina Film Festival
Image
The Italian mainland boasts a host of film festivals from the giants like Venice, Torino and Rome to the specialist cinephile celebrations like the Bologna Cinema Ritrovato and Pordenone’s annual celebration of silent cinema. But few of them boast as beautiful and historical a setting as the ancient amphitheater that hosts the screenings of the Taormina Film Festival, which celebrates its 71st edition this year.

The Greco-Roman theater, which once saw spectators enjoying the spectacle of gladiators fighting ferocious beasts, now serves as an open air cinema where viewers have watched the likes of “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny” and “Twisters.” Sometimes, Mount Etna will erupt in the distance, spouting plumes of molten lava and stealing the show. With such ancient history in mind, here’s a run through of some milestones in the admittedly shorter history of the Sicilian film festival:

● 1957 – The film festival, which had...

How Kevin Smith Rescued His Religious Comedy ‘Dogma’ From the Devil and Got It Back Into Theaters
Image
Kevin Smith’s “Dogma” is back.

After touring the film to sold-out crowds earlier this year, Smith’s controversial 1999 feature returns to theaters everywhere June 5 via Iconic Films, complete with a Q&a that was recorded at the first stop of the tour. What makes the movie’s resurrection so miraculous is the fact that the film, which stars Ben Affleck and Matt Damon as a pair of fallen angels looking to make hell on earth, had been out-of-print and downright impossible to stream for years.

In fact, until recently, it had been under the control of Harvey Weinstein. That’s right – a movie about angels had long been trapped by a man many see as the devil.

How “Dogma” made its way back to cinemas, on more screens than it did in 1999, is just as dramatic and unexpected as anything in the movie.

Lost in limbo

Back in 2022, we talked to Kevin Smith about “Dogma.

Marina Wants Pleasure, Power, and Maybe a Little Love

There’s a bridal shower just a few tables away from Marina as she sips a berry smoothie in the sun-dappled courtyard of a Los Angeles hotel. She tells me she’s trying not to protect her heart quite so carefully these days.

Michael Douglas
Michael Douglas to Receive Lifetime Achievement Award at Taormina Film Festival
Michael Douglas
Michael Douglas, the Academy Award–winning actor and producer, will be the guest of honor at Italy’s Taormina Film Festival on June 10, when a newly restored print of One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest screens in the festival’s 8,000-seat Greek amphitheater to mark the film’s 50th anniversary. At 80, Douglas will receive a lifetime achievement award in recognition of a career that spans more than five decades and encompasses both leading-man performances and key producing credits.

Festival artistic director Tiziana Rocca said she was “thrilled to welcome Michael Douglas to Taormina” and praised him as “an icon of world cinema, actor and producer extraordinaire, whose work has resonated across generations”. Rocca added that her admiration extended to his family’s legacy, recalling an emotional evening she organized in Rome to honor his father, screen legend Kirk Douglas.

Douglas’s decision to revisit One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest,...

“Everybody Wants The Ebullient Nobody Wants This” – A Subhash K Jha Review
Image
Netflix’s Nobody Wants This, streaming on Netflix, is the most pitch-perfect serialized romcom I’ve seen in years. It is smart, funny, impish, and wise, without making any visible effort to be any of these. The dialogues are unerringly bang-on and unfailingly amusing.

You can’t afford to skip a beat in this one, no Sirreee! Not without wondering why everyone else in the room is laughing. Ah, that is another thing about Nobody Wants This: you have to watch it with those whom you love. There is a sense of community joy in the way the characters address their own problems, without seeming self-centred. They aren’t telling us how to live our lives. But they aren’t ruling out any tips either.

So what is all the fuss about? It all begins when Joanne (Kristen Bell) meets a “hot rabbi” Noah (Adam Brody). Sparks fly, especially...

Thierry Fremaux talks selection process, Depardieu, AI in pre-Cannes press conference

General delegate Thierry Fremaux bristled at the notion that Cannes Film Festival always selects the same filmmakers for its Competition, saying that “it’s really not true.”

At the pre-festival press conference, Fremaux was asked why the Dardenne brothers are in Competition for the ninth time, with their film The Young Mother’s Home.

“This question hides another one,” said Fremaux, mimicking those who say “‘the Dardenne brothers yet again, it’s always the same people!’”

“If you look at the statistics, it’s not,” said Fremaux, citing the first-time filmmakers in Competition this year, including Ari Aster with Eddington, Carla Simon...

Did the Success of ‘The Substance’ and ‘Anatomy of a Fall’ Finally Teach Cannes a Lesson?
Image
[Editor’s note: This story was originally published on April 10, 2025 when the first lineup announcement for this year’s Cannes Film Festival was released. It has been updated today to include two new additions to the competition section, including Lynne Ramsay’s “Die My Love.” It was also updated on May 8, 2025 to account for one new addition to the competition slate.]

Updated, April 23, 2025: As promised when the Cannes lineup was first released on April 10, 2025, the festival has now added two more films to its official competition slate, including Lynne Ramsay’s “Die My Love.” With that addition, this year’s competition lineup now includes seven films directed by women, tying 2023’s then-record-breaking slate of female directed-films. Our original story follows, with an update below in the “2025” section of our official breakdown.

It’s a tradition I long ago grew weary of: waking up early on an April morning to see how few women filmmakers had made it into Cannes’ competition section. For a long time, the festival seemed destined to stall out with just four films directed or co-directed by women in the section. Hell, Cannes didn’t...

Nora Aunor (1953-2025)
Image
by Juan Carlos Ojano

Nora Aunor in Miracle (1982)

World cinema has lost an acting legend. Yesterday, the passing of the Philippines’ Superstar - a multi-hyphenate performer across film, television, radio, theater - was announced by her family. With a career that spans seven decades, 180 films, 260 singles, multiple genres, and hundreds of awards, Nora Aunor’s impact as an artist transcends the boundaries of Philippine cinema. Her longevity is not only astounding in quantity - she starred in 18 films in 1970 alone! - but she has been a central figure in some of the best works Philippine cinema has ever created.

Personally, Aunor is my favorite Filipino actor - male or female - of all-time. Her talent puts her up there with the world’s best like Meryl Streep, Isabelle Huppert, Liv Ullmann, Gong Li, Viola Davis, Sophia Loren, Setsuko Hara, and Fernanda Montenegro. If this is the first time you are reading about this thespian,...

Zoe Saldaña Now Shares a Little-Known Piece of Oscar History With Roberto Benigni
Image
With her Oscar win for the Spanish-language “Emilia Pérez,” Zoe Saldaña joins a short list of performers who have won for non-English language roles. She’s just the third ever to do so for Best Supporting Actress, after Penélope Cruz for “Vicky Christina Barcelona” and Yuh-jung Youn in “Minari.”

But there is further significance in Saldaña’s victory. While several actors have won for non-English roles in American movies, such as Cruz and Youn, Saldaña is the first acting winner from a Best International Feature Oscar nominee in 25 years – since Roberto Benigni exuberantly won Best Actor for 1998’s “Life is Beautiful.” Both that film and “Emilia Pérez” were also Best Picture nominees.

In Oscar history, in fact, Saldaña and Benigni are the only two actors to win for movies also nominated in the international cateorgy, which was referred to as Best Foreign-Language Film in the era when “Life is Beautiful” won the award.

Trudie Styler on Making Doc ‘An Ode to Naples,’ Getting Sting to Make a Cameo and Defying the City’s Stereotypes: ‘Immerse Yourself and Do Not Feel Afraid’
Image
Trudie Styler’s documentary “Posso Entrare? An Ode to Naples,” which recently premiered on Hulu, is a film that observes the unique southern Italian port city — the backdrop for the hit “Gomorrah” gangster series — with fresh eyes.

The filmmaker’s high-profile doc delves into the belly of Naples, which is known for its resilience, crime and creative energy, partly by knocking on people’s doors. “Posso entrare?” translates as: “Can I come in?”

Styler’s “Ode” features author Roberto Saviano, whose Neapolitan mob exposé provided the basis for the “Gomorrah” series; Alessandra Clemente, a Naples municipal councillor whose mother was murdered in a gangland shootout; the women involved in Forti Guerriere, an organization against domestic violence and femicide; and a musical performance by Sting, who happens to be Styler’s husband.

The doc is produced by Big Sur, Mad Entertainment and Rai Cinema in co-production with Luce Cinecittà.

Below, Styler...

Subhash K Jha Looks Back At Vinod Pande’s Controversial Film
Image
Subhash K Jha revisits Vinod Pande’s controversial film, Sins, as it clocks 20 years.

Vinod Pande’s Sins is certainly not a sinful pretext for gratuitous sex and nudity. Ripping a cruel page out of the newspapers, writer-director Vinod Pande has reconstructed a dramatic and often shocking tale of forbidden love between a Catholic priest and a junior disciple.

Pande is never a stranger to the dark side of love and relationships. In Sins, too, he doesn’t stop at the bedroom door but manages to build an intimidating pyramid of desperate passion between Father Williams (Shiny Ahuja) and Rosemary (Seema Rahmani).

One recalls the old 1960 film The Priest’s Wife in which Italian director Carlo Ponti cast Sophia Loren as the seductress humorously hankering the priest Marcello Mastroianni. In Sins, Vinod Pande denudes the theme of all its inherent humour – what we see is a luminously lit, starkly shot film,...

When Kate Winslet Called For Her Dad To Whistle During Her Oscar Speech & He Delivered It For The Most Wholesome Moment

Did Kate Winslet’s dad whistle when she gave her Oscar speech? (Photo Credit – Prime Video)

When Titanic megastar Kate Winslet received her first Best Leading Actress nomination at the Academy Awards for James Cameron’s epic romance, it would take another twelve years before she finally stepped onto that podium. By the 2009 awards season, however, Kate had indisputably climbed to the absolute height of her career.

Kate snatched both the Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Drama and Best Supporting Actress trophies at the Golden Globes for her performances in Revolutionary Road and The Reader, respectively. Incidentally, the latter — poetically referencing Kate’s hometown of Reading, Berkshire — was categorized as a lead by the time the Oscars arrived, but that didn’t stop her from winning the prestigious award. As Sophia Loren, Shirley MacLaine, Marion Cotillard, Halle Berry, and Nicole Kidman welcomed her onto the stage, Kate was visibly trembling with excitement.

Geneviève Page, the alluring French actress who starred in such films as Belle de Jour, El Cid and The Private Life of Sherlock Holmes, died Friday. She was 97.

Page died at her home in Paris, her granddaughter, actress Zoé Guillemaud, told the Afp news agency.

Juliette Binoche Named 2025 Cannes Film Festival President Of The Jury
Image
French actress Juliette Binoche has been named President of the Jury for the 2025 edition of the Cannes Film Festival in May.

The honor, which was announced on Tuesday morning Paris time, will fall exactly 40 years after the Oscar-winning The English Patient star first touched down at the festival with André Téchiné’s Palme d’Or contender Rendez-vous in 1985.

Binoche follows in the footsteps of U.S. director Greta Gerwig whose jury feted Sean Baker’s Anora with the Palme d’Or last year.

“I’m looking forward to sharing these life experiences with the members of the Jury and the public. In 1985, I walked up the steps for the first time with the enthusiasm and uncertainty of a young actress; I never imagined I’d return 40 years later in the honorary role of President of the Jury. I appreciate the privilege, the responsibility and the absolute need for humility,” said Binoche.

Image
Fighting back tears and fresh from receiving the first of two standing ovations, Jennifer Lopez told a Sundance Film Festival audience on Sunday night that starring in Bill Condon’s movie musical Kiss of the Spider Woman made a lifelong dream come true. But it wasn’t for lack of trying.

Talking to The Hollywood Reporter on the red carpet ahead of the world premiere at Park City’s Eccles Center Theatre, the superstar entertainer revealed that she had auditioned for some of Hollywood’s best known modern movie musicals, only to get passed over.

“I remember auditioning for Evita, I remember auditioning for Chicago and for Nine — getting very close on Nine,” said Lopez, outfitted for the premiere in a very method ensemble, a glittering spiderweb gown by designer Valdrin Sahiti. “There was a lot of things that I had always hoped that I could do and just wasn’t the right time.

When the actor known as “Russia’s Timothée Chalamet” attended the Gotham Awards last month, he never expected to come face-to-face with the real Timothée Chalamet. “It was such a crazy thing,” says “Anora” star Mark Eydelshteyn of meeting the Gotham Awards’ Visionary Tribute honoree. “I know many amazing actors, but they’re very far from me. I could feel Tim’s vibe up close. I was so lucky to talk with him, just to see that he’s a real, warm and kind person.”

You can expect more moments like this in the near future. Ever since Italian star Ever since Italian star Sophia Loren became the first actor to win an Oscar for a non-English speaking role in 1961 for “Two Women,” few award seasons have boasted as many top acting contenders from outside the U.S. as this one — which is not to say that it’s been an easy road for them.

Did You Know? Before Gladiator, A More Historically Accurate Version of Ridley Scott’s Movies Was Adapted In This 1964 Epic
Image
The Fall Of The Roman Empire Comparison (Photo Credit – Facebook)

With Ridley Scott’s Gladiator II continuing to draw big numbers at the box office, conversations about the potential for a third installment are taking off, with the prolific filmmaker already calling in its favor. The sequel to the Academy Award-winning Gladiator saw Scott return to the helm, continuing a story loosely inspired by historical events. Adding Paul Mescal, Pedro Pascal, and Denzel Washington to the beloved franchise, the big-budget tentpole’s ability to blend melodrama with history has been a significant draw for audiences worldwide.

While Gladiator features characters based on historical Roman citizens like Joaquin Phoenix’s Emperor Commodus and Connie Nielsen’s Lucilla, the story nevertheless took creative liberties, notably with Russell Crowe’s Maximus. This character replaced Narcissus, a real-life wrestler who assassinated Emperor Commodus. Despite these alterations, the film’s narrative entertained audiences’ imaginations with...

The 25 Best Actresses Of Old Hollywood
Image
The Golden Age of Hollywood lasted for roughly 40 years after the transition toward “talkies” in the 1920s and cinema became one of the most popular forms of entertainment. Movies became larger than life thanks to intricate musical sequences, sweeping dramas, and laugh-out-loud hijinks. Many of the stars who rose to prominence during that time period are seen as the best of the best, even by modern standards.

Many old Hollywood stars were pigeonholed into specific roles. If an actress had a certain look, there was a good chance she would be playing femme fatales for a large part of her career. If she could sing, dance, and act all at the same time, she would be thrown into one musical after the other. Actors were treated as property by studios trying to sell a product. These actresses rose above all of the hardship to allow their talent to shine through...

Watch Ariana Grande Tear Up Over Drew Barrymore's 'Wicked' Surprise
Image
Wicked star Ariana Grande made an appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show on Thursday (December 5), and the singer was moved to tears when she was presented with an unexpected showbiz artifact.

It's common knowledge that host Drew Barrymore is the definition of Hollywood royalty, and that her childhood as a very young star in the spotlight was far from easy:

"Not only is she the goddaughter of Sophia Loren and godmother to Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love’s child, but she was also born into two acting dynasties that date back two centuries: the Barrymores and the Drews.

"Her grandfather, John Barrymore, and his siblings Lionel and Ethel, were leading lights of the stage and screen."

Drew's pedigree goes way back, and though she has a string of film hits to her name, she's happy and emotionally invested in hosting her daily syndicated talk show — which is described on its...

‘Emilia Pérez’ And ‘I’m Still Here’ Lead The Female-Fronted Favorites For Best International Feature Of 2024
Image
Looking outside America this Oscar season, there are plenty of candidates for the Best International Feature award. You might gravitate to Latvia’s Cannes entry Flow, a dialogue-free animation in which a black cat, a bird and a ragtag band of other creatures fight for survival in a human-free world after a catastrophic flood. Or maybe you’ll fancy the chances of raucous Irish-language Sundance comedy Kneecap, a wildly stylized biopic of the English-baiting, all-male hip-hop trio from Belfast.

But these two are outliers; the international Oscar race this year is dominated by stories of women, from all over the world. For example, the U.K.’s Hindi-language drama Santosh, filmed in Uttar Pradesh, Northern India, finds a policeman’s widow thrown into her late husband’s world, where she must battle police indifference and solve the murder of a low-caste local girl. From Bulgaria there is Triumph, a political...

Image
Today the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has sent a letter to its membership clarifying recent staffing changes across their collections and preservation teams at the Academy archive, museum, and library. It was reported at the end of October that 16 staff members had been laid off as part of a broader restructuring designed to bring all collecting, restoration, and preservation efforts together under the newly created Academy Collection and Preservation Department. Among those let go were Mike Pogorzelski — director of the Academy Film Archive for the last 24 years — and many veteran Archive staff members Sean Savage, Lynne Kirste, Joe Lindner, Melissa Levesque, Mike Brostoff, and Ed Carter. Longtime Academy librarian Anne Coco was also among those leaving the organization.

This move caused great distress among many in the film community, and even prompted a petition sent to the AMPAS Board Of Governors, led by the group called Missing Movies,...

‘Ciao Marcello’ Offers an Intimate Look at Marcello Mastroianni
Image
“Marcello Mastroianni was known, all around the world, as the Latin lover, the Italian seducer, especially after he starred in La Dolce Vita, Federico Fellini’s masterpiece,” says Fabrizio Corallo, the director of the new documentary Ciao Marcello, Mastroianni l’antidivo. “Mastroianni did not like this image. He didn’t want to be seen as an icon, as a sex symbol. He didn’t care much about his public persona; what did matter to him was his personal life. So, I tried to build an intimate portrait of this unique actor.”

Corallo is a journalist and an expert on the history of Italian cinema. For state broadcaster Rai he has made a number of documentaries about the great personalities of Italian cinema: Dino Risi, Vittorio Gassman, Virna Lisi, Ennio Flaiano and Giuliano Montaldo, among others.

Ciao Marcello, which was co-written with Silvia Scola, the daughter of Italian filmmaker Ettore Scola,...

Image
Rising star Rachel Zegler has her pick of work, from starring in Disney’s live action adaptation of “Snow White” to making her Broadway debut in “Romeo + Juliet,” but she’s ready to work with some non-human talent for a change. As part of Variety’s New York Issue, Zegler spoke with the publication about her career and the roles she hopes to take on, including being the main player in a Muppet movie.

“Michael Caine did it for ‘Christmas Carol,’” she said. “Tim Curry did it for ‘Muppet Treasure Island.’ I want to be the one!”

Other talent have taken up this mantle in recent history as well, with Ashanti playing Dorothy in 2005’s “The Muppets’ Wizard of Oz” and Jason Segel and Amy Adams starring in 2011’s “The Muppets.” Its most recent entry was a Halloween special in 2021 called “Muppets Haunted Mansion,” a tie-in with the famous Disney ride.
