After Star Wars came out in 1977 and became a global phenomenon, many people might’ve thought Harrison Ford was set for life. But that wasn’t quite how it went. While the movie was a massive hit, the fame didn’t instantly turn Ford or the rest of the cast into Hollywood royalty.
Instead, the film’s success was mostly credited to its groundbreaking effects and the overall magic of the Star Wars universe, not necessarily the actors. Ford had already appeared in strong films like American Graffiti and The Conversation, but his path to superstardom wasn’t as smooth as you might expect.
According to The Making of The Empire Strikes Back by J.W. Rinzler, Ford’s first big move after Star Wars was a war movie called Force 10 from Navarone, a sequel to the 1961 hit The Guns of Navarone. The original had legends like Gregory Peck and Anthony Quinn.

When Star Wars hit theaters in 1977, it changed Hollywood forever. You’d think Harrison Ford, who played Han Solo, would’ve instantly become one of the most in-demand actors in the world. But that didn’t happen right away.
Even though the movie was a huge hit, the cast didn’t come out of it as instant stars. Instead, the success was mostly credited to the groundbreaking effects and the overall magic of George Lucas’ universe.
Ford already had some solid work under his belt, like American Graffiti and The Conversation, but after Star Wars, he didn’t get flooded with offers like many expected.
Things eventually worked out for him with The Empire Strikes Back and Raiders of the Lost Ark coming back-to-back. But right after Star Wars, Ford found himself in a tight spot. He needed a job, and the only role he was offered was in a movie he now regrets deeply.

Pedro Pascal might be best known for The Last of Us and The Mandalorian, but when it comes to scary movies, he’s still very much a kid of the ’80s. In an interview with Sky, the actor shared some of his all-time favorite horror films, and his list shows he’s got a real love for the classics, the kind that still make you want to hide behind the couch.
When he was little, Pascal says he used to act out scenes from Poltergeist, the 1982 horror hit about a haunted house.
His love for creepy movies started early and never really went away. He didn’t include A Nightmare on Elm Street in his top picks, but several other major horror titles made the cut.
One that stands out for him is An American Werewolf in London. The 1981 film mixed horror and comedy with groundbreaking special effects.

Pedro Pascal has always loved horror movies. Growing up in the 1980s, he was completely hooked. In fact, he says he used to act out scenes from Poltergeist as a kid. When asked by Sky to list his all-time favorite films, many of them turned out to be horror classics.
One of the movies he picked is An American Werewolf in London. Released in 1981, it became famous for its shocking special effects and clever mix of horror and comedy. Pedro remembers watching it when he was young, and it left a mark.
“It’s amazing. We got cable TV when I was very young. It scared me, and I thought it was hilarious. And you look at it now, and it really holds up. It has special effects that changed cinema, and has been built on since then,” he said.
Another horror film Pedro swears by is The Shining. Stanley Kubrick...

Finally Dawn (Finalmente l’alba) is a soulful Italian period drama written and directed by Saverio Costanzo. While far from perfect, the film is genuinely immersive in its ability to transport viewers to another time and place. Set during the 1950s and 1960s—an era when Hollywood productions flocked to Rome.
This period saw major American stars, including Elizabeth Taylor, Gregory Peck, and Audrey Hepburn, headline films such as Ben-Hur (1959), Roman Holiday (1953), Cleopatra (1963), and Quo Vadis (1951). The result was a cinematic fusion of classic Roman backdrops and American glamour that remains iconic to this day.
Finally Dawn uses this rich setting as a backdrop to tell an absorbing story that unfolds like a sprawling novel, full of twists, turns, and layered subplots. While it can feel convoluted at times, the narrative ultimately finds its way and proves cinematically satisfying.
Finally Dawn Review and Synopsis Joe Keery and Lily James in Finally Dawn...

Morty Smith may be only 14 years old, but he’s already sired two children. Most recently, in Season Five of Rick and Morty, he fathered a giant incest baby with his sister. But back in Season One we met his other offspring, Morty Jr., a sex robot from the planet Gazorpazorp.
The males of Gazorpazorp are primitive, rage-filled monsters that age far more quickly than humans, and in the course of just one episode, Morty Jr. goes from a newborn baby to a full-grown adult. Then, in the post-credits scene of “Raising Gazorpazorp,” he appears as a middle-aged man/alien promoting his memoir, My Horrible Father.
This weekend, Rick and Morty fans will finally learn what became of Morty Jr. And so, I hopped on a Zoom call with the voice of adult Morty Jr., Maurice Lamarche, to talk about the character’s return as well as his thoughts on...

Our Digital Features are where we take the time to delve into something special, spotlighting the creators, films, and ideas that are pushing horror forward. These stand-alone interviews exist outside our monthly covers, allowing us to delve deeper into the projects we can’t stop thinking about. The Omen True Haunting Stories(Photo Credit –YouTube)
The Omen did not need much help to be terrifying on screen, but what happened off-screen told a different story, and it is one far more chilling. Before a single frame rolled, the shadow was already there, lurking around the production like it had something to prove. The film, which tells the story of a boy adopted by a diplomat who turns out to be the Antichrist, was drenched in death and disaster both in front of and behind the camera.
Lightning Strikes Multiple Planes Connected To The Omen
The string of bad luck and misfortune kicked off in 1975 with none other than the legendary late actor Gregory Peck. He boarded a plane to London, and during mid-flight, it was struck by lightning. One may consider it to be nothing more than a fluke, but then it struck the writer’s plane too.

The rightfully beloved "Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood" anime follows two brothers — Edward and Alphonse Elric — chasing the Philosopher's Stone across the nation of Amestris. Their main obstacle in this task are the Homunculi, artificial humans with names and powers reflecting the seven deadly sins.
The Homunculi's Father wants to use the Elric brothers as "hitobashira" (best translation is "human sacrifice") for his evil plan. Hiromu Arakawa, the Fullmetal author, naming her bad guy "Father," feels influenced by her love for "Star Wars" and Darth Vader. The movie homages in the anime don't end there, including when it comes to Father's pride and joy.
"Fullmetal Alchemist" introduces the Homunculi gradually. The earliest episodes/manga chapters feature only Lust, Gluttony, and Envy. Then, near the end of the series' first cour, it introduces Greed, Sloth, and Wrath. The reveal of Wrath is especially...

Long before he became arguably the most famous actor in the world, John Wayne started his career by literally knocking over director John Ford. Given how Ford would go on to treat Wayne and many other actors on set, it's quite satisfying to know Duke managed to get in a good hit on the director before he was subjected to the man's penchant for emasculating his male stars. Despite their contentious relationship (which didn't seem to sour Wayne on Ford in the end), the filmmaker clearly saw something in Wayne, as evidenced by the fact he was largely responsible for kickstarting his acting career.
The director first encountered the young USC student lugging around props on a set back in the mid-1920s, and cast Wayne in 1928's "Hangman's House," in which he played a spectator at a horse race...

Hell of a Role Al Pacino recently took on the role of a Catholic priest confronting the Devil himself. The (for lack of a congruent term of what he brings to any role) gravitas of Pacino anchors Father Theophilus Riesinger, the German-born Capuchin priest who famously endured a grueling four-month battle to reclaim Schmidt’s soul from demonic control. Set in 1928 Iowa and steeped in the scorched bones of American demonology, ‘The Ritual’ follows two priests- one devout but fractured, the other wavering in faith- tasked with exorcising a woman gripped by violent possession. This isn’t just another fictional horror tale. The film is based directly on Begone Satan!, the 1935 pamphlet detailing the real-life exorcism of Emma Schmidt, a documented case so harrowing it has long haunted the fringe between folklore and faith. The same material inspired William Peter Blatty’s ‘The Exorcist’ and, eventually, William Friedkin’s landmark 1973 film.

By the time they announced their first break-up in 2013, New Jersey rockers My Chemical Romance had established themselves as one of the biggest and most influential emo bands on the planet. Indeed, if you're not into the whole emo thing, it's probably their name that springs to mind if the genre ever comes up. For a group who positioned themselves as outsiders, they made a pretty big impact on the mainstream, too; the anthemic "Welcome to the Black Parade" reached Number 2 in the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 and topped the charts in the U.K. and New Zealand. With their gothic stylings and dark topics including cancer and suicide, My Chemical Romance came to define the gloomy look and attitude of emo culture for a new generation, even though the guys themselves rejected the "emo" label. In short, they didn't seem like the kind of people who would sit around watching old Clint Eastwood movies,...

Ethan Peck has credited his time on Star Trek: Discovery to be one of his most memorable moments in the franchise, which is surprising considering he plays a main role in Strange New Worlds. Peck plays Spock in the current era of the franchise, which has two shows set before the events of Tos, with Strange New Worlds seeing him under the command of Christopher Pike.
Star Trek: Discovery has been a divisive show for the fans, despite essentially reviving the franchise for the long format once again after Enterprise. The prequel series, however, introduced the current Strange New Worlds cast of the franchise legends like Spock, Pike, and Una. No wonder Peck has a special place for the show in his heart. Speaking about his day on the set of Discovery, he said (via Slash Film),
I was fully immersed; there was no apparatus of the production around me.

Laurence Olivier was the greatest Shakespearean actor of the 21st century, an unrivaled master of technique who brought the Bard to the big screen with an invigorating cinematic bravado and refreshing absence of preciousness. Olivier was a sensation on the boards, but he came to believe in the power of movies and, via such masterpieces as "Hamlet," "Richard III," and "Henry V," made a strong case that these works belonged to everyone, regardless of their economic or cultural upbringing.
Olivier's openness to the movies during the advent of the talkies perturbed some of his most valued colleagues. Noël Coward, the boundlessly witty playwright who gave us "Blithe Spirit," "Private Lives," and "Design for Living," once told his friend, "You've no artistic integrity, that's your trouble; this is how you cheapen yourself." Coward might've had a point in that Olivier, at the time of this comment, was mulling an Rko contract offer that would've paid him,...

Before Donald Trump took to Truth Social to rage against Bruce Springsteen — calling him a “dried out ‘prune’ of a rocker” and threatening ominously that “we’ll all see how it goes for him” — another American president once tried to silence a politically outspoken rock star.
But Richard Nixon didn’t just tweet insults at John Lennon. He tried to deport him.
That 1970s-era culture war — now resurrected in a new doc, One to One: John & Yoko — echoes eerily in Trump’s latest feud with American music royalty. Lennon, a British citizen with a U.S. green card living in New York at the time, had aligned himself with the radical left and spoken out forcefully against the Vietnam War and Nixon’s re-election. The Nixon administration responded by weaponizing immigration law, trying to boot Lennon back to the UK over an old pot bust. It was a thin pretext,...

Hollywood’s spotlight has long shone brightly on Italy’s capital, from Audrey Hepburn and Gregory Peck’s Vespa joyride in Roman Holiday to last year’s Oscar-nominated Conclave. The latter film, about the political intrigue behind the selection of a new Pope, soared in popularity after the death last month of Pope Francis — and unexpectedly served as a useful primer for the election of his successor, the American born Pope Leo Xiv.

Michael Cimino’s The Deer Hunter will headline Legend’s June 2025 slate, as the classic war film makes its debut on the free-to-air genre channel. Scheduled for its first airing on Saturday 28 June, the five-time Academy Award winner will anchor a month of premieres that spans decades and genres, from prestige Hollywood dramas to high-concept science fiction and British cult films.
Originally released in 1978, The Deer Hunter stars Robert De Niro, Christopher Walken and Meryl Streep, and is widely regarded as one of the most significant American films of the 20th century. Set before, during and after the Vietnam War, the film traces the psychological and emotional impact of conflict on a group of steelworkers from Pennsylvania. Cimino’s ambitious and often divisive work won Best Picture and Best Director at the Oscars and remains a key title in any examination of American post-war cinema.

How Did James Cameron Convince Leonardo DiCaprio To Consider Titanic? ( Photo Credit – Instagram )
Some casting choices fall into place so perfectly, they feel like they were meant to happen all along. Leonardo DiCaprio stepping into the role of Jack Dawson in Titanic sits right up there with the most seamless ones. When William Wyler was prepping Roman Holiday back in the the early 1950’s, he had the idea to shoot the movie in Italy, not on a studio backlot the way nearly all Hollywood films were in those days.
Paramount Pictures resisted, the Italian Ministry of Tourism resisted, pretty much everyone resisted. But Wyler insisted, and that’s how we have Audrey Hepburn and Gregory Peck tearing through the streets of Rome on a Vespa, among many Princess Ann iconic scenes.
Why in the name of the Piazza Navona am I bringing up a movie from nearly three-quarters of a century ago? Because it was in that moment and the moment of Quo Vadis just before it that modern global Hollywood was born. Shooting overseas slowly but surely became a regular thing for U.S. studios, first in Italy, then in England. By the 1990’s both the U.K. and Australia...

Francis Ford Coppola, one of cinema’s most influential auteurs, was honored with the 50th AFI Life Achievement Award on Saturday at a star-studded gala at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood. Seated alongside Steven Spielberg, George Lucas, his filmmaker son Roman Coppola, and granddaughter Gia Coppola, the visionary behind The Godfather trilogy, Apocalypse Now, and The Conversation was celebrated in a way only he could inspire: with reverence, love, and a whole lot of family.
The night was a retrospective of the Academy Award-winning director, writer, and producer's career, highlighting friendships with Harrison Ford, Al Pacino, Robert De Niro, Ralph Macchio, Diane Lane, Dustin Hoffman, and C. Thomas Howell, among others.
Speaking to Gold Derby on the red carpet before the gala, Coppola reflected on a constant in his creative process: connecting with actors before cameras roll.

Brent Spiner’s take on Data in Star Trek hit deeper than most fans realize. For many on the autism spectrum, Data wasn’t just a quirky android, he was the only character they truly connected with.
Logical, socially awkward, yet deeply curious about emotion, Data mirrored what it felt like to navigate a world that doesn’t always make sense. Spiner once acknowledged this, noting how powerful that connection was.
Long before representation became a buzzword, Data quietly became a beacon for those who felt different. He didn’t just want to be human, he wanted to understand it. And that made all the difference.

There is, for devotees of a specific type of movie arcana, a glorious moment in Jason Statham’s new movie, “A Working Man.” About midway through, his character, searching for a trafficked young woman, poses as a drug dealer looking to score a connection with a local kingpin holding court in the backroom of a biker bar. The kingpin suspects he’s a cop, but after Jason handily dispatches his goons, the kingpin, regarding his fists, says, “Look at those bricks. You ain’t a cop, you’re a working man.”

Richard Kahn, the former president of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences whose term included the 1989 Oscars, infamous for its Rob Lowe-Snow White musical number, has died. He was 95.
The first head of AMPAS to come from its public relations branch, Kahn died Saturday in Los Angeles, his daughters, Sharon Kahn and Lisa Kahn Feldstern, announced. “Our dad had a kind and generous soul and a wry sense of humor and was a wonderful father. We will miss him dearly,” they said in a statement.
Kahn followed director Robert Wise as Academy president in August 1988 and served a one-year term before being succeeded by actor Karl Malden.
When he was a PR branch member, the amiable Kahn invented the splendid Oscar Nominees Luncheon, which was first held in 1982, and a few years later, he inaugurated the tradition of gifting each honoree with a sweatshirt emblazoned with the Oscar logo.

The sun turns into a mute spectator for once. The desert sands shift in the wind. History holds its breath, still trembling in the aftermath of the bloodbath it has just witnessed. A locomotive—a proud symbol of the Ottoman Empire—lies in ruins. Smoke rises from the smoldering tangle of metal and flesh. And then, the camera shifts focus. Amid the war cries of a band of Bedouin warriors, he rises—Thomas Edward Lawrence—in a flowing white robe, his face smeared with soot and dust. His footsteps are deliberate, almost exaggerated, like a king surveying his new dominion. His white robe flutters like a conqueror’s standard. The obstinate warrior is now more than a cog in His Majesty’s army. He has buried his past in the sun’s anvil and emerged as a mythical figure. His gait proves his point. The war-cry of the rifle-brandishing Bedouin warriors reaches a crescendo.

There’s no doubt that John Ford was a master of the Western genre. Ford’s eye for storytelling made him one of the greatest directors of all time, and when it came to depicting the Civil War in How the West Was Won, he brought the same sharp vision that defined his career. The film is separated into five segments, each directed by a different filmmaker, about a frontier family experiencing defining moments of the 19th century.
In John Ford’s Civil War chapter, the story follows Zeb Rawlings (George Peppard), a young man drawn into the conflict despite his mother’s desperate wish to keep him out of it. Zeb witnesses the horrors of the Battle of Shiloh, losing his father in the process, and later returns home to find his mother dead and his family farm no longer a place he belongs. Ford’s direction makes this...

Actor Gregory Peck may be best known for his Oscar-winning performance as Atticus Finch in 1962’s To Kill a Mockingbird, but over the course of his decades-long career, Peck appeared in more than 50 projects, including a western that many may have forgotten. Everybody wants rom-coms to have a renaissance, but nobody seems to know how they should evolve to reflect the realities of the modern world. Few of the recent efforts to resurrect the form have been meaningfully successful, and most of those rare successes have used hot new stars to hide their reliance on dusty old tropes; no shade to the breezy appeal of “Anyone but You,” but no one would accuse that Shakespeare-inspired charmer of trying to move the genre forward.
The prevailing wisdom is that the unfettered wish fulfillment of movies like “Sleepless in Seattle” (or whatever) is a poor fit for the messiness of the digital age, even if it really had more to do with the fact that social media has made it hard to write a decent meet-cute, and the streaming boom gave Hollywood studios an excuse to stop trying. But wish fulfillment was always just...

He did it all for Jodie Foster.
When 25-year-old John Hinckley Jr. fired six shots at Ronald Reagan on March 30, 1981, the newly-elected president wasn’t the shooter’s main target. A few years earlier, when Martin Scorsese’s Taxi Driver was released, Hinckley became obsessed with Jodie Foster (who was just 12 when she played the Oscar-nominated part of an underage sex worker).
After failing to get Foster’s attention in other ways — like stalking her — Hinckley developed a plan to assassinate Reagan to impress her. He put the plan into action two months after Reagan’s first inauguration, just after the president was finishing up a speech at the Washington Hilton Hotel. As Reagan exited the building and headed toward his presidential limousine, six shots rang out in close succession.
The first bullet hit Press Secretary Jim Brady in the head. The second hit D.C. police officer Tom Delahanty in the back of the neck.
