The Salt Path | As the controversy stirs, DVD and Blu-ray are incoming
Image
The Salt Path is getting a DVD and Blu-ray release in the UK this September, as questions about its story swirl.

On the surface, the box office success of The Salt Path in the UK was a welcome sign that there’s space on the big screen for dramas skewing towards an older audience. Also, for ‘grown up’ films, which can still persuade people to leave the house and sit in a cinema.

Starring Gillian Anderson and Jason Isaacs (hello), the success of The Salt Path movie happened just ahead of the, er, ‘further discussions’ about just how true the story at the heart of it is. An investigation by The Observer newspaper certainly put a very feral cat amongst some quite tetchy pigeons, and you can read that in full, here.

The modestly-costed film, directed by Marianne Elliott with a screenplay from Rebecca Lenkiewicz, was released by Black Bear in the UK.

A Battlestar Galactica Star Lost Out On A Major Game Of Thrones Role
Image
Casting can be a tricky thing, and sometimes multiple performers would do a great job in a particular role, leading to a whole bunch of "what-ifs" from fans after the fact. In the case of the sprawling cast of the HBO epic fantasy series "Game of Thrones," based on the "A Song of Ice and Fire" series of books by George R. R. Martin, there were several cases of big-name stars who almost ended up playing one of the many characters in the world of Westeros. One of them, it turns out, was "Battlestar Galactica" star Tricia Helfer, who played the Number Six Cylon variants on the SyFy series. In a post on the website formerly known as Twitter from 2010, Helfer revealed to a fan that she had auditioned for and lost out on the role of Cersei Lannister, which ultimately went to actor Lena Headey.

Helfer, who also voices...

The Forgotten Sci-Fi Series Vince Gilligan Made Before Pluribus
Image
Vince Gilligan‘s work is known to each sci-fi fanatic out there. But, do you know about The X Files? It is a sci-fi that questions the difference between paranormal and science. Starring the enigmatic David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson, the series culminated in May 2002.

As for Gilligan, The X Files marked the start of his career in the sci-fi landscape. The esteemed visionary was considering and still is to revive the show even after a decade. In an interview with The Independent, Vince Gilligan quoted,

“The thought that there could be more episodes of The X Files is very exciting to me indeed.”

He further continued,

“If I knew I could do it, I would love to be a part of it, but even if I am not, you can know for a fact that I’ll be watching every episode and rooting them on, and being very much the fanboy that I started.

Tron: Ares (2025)
Disney wanted to include an AI character in Tron: Ares and even explored a deepfaked Dwayne Johnson for Moana
Tron: Ares (2025)
AI is here to stay, but how it should and shouldn’t be used is still a subject of much debate, particularly in the entertainment industry. According to a report from the Wall Street Journal (via Deadline), Disney had considered some ambitious ideas for using AI on several upcoming projects, including Tron: Ares and the live-action Moana movie.

According to WSJ sources, Disney executives “pitched the idea of actually incorporating AI into one of the characters in the sequel to the 1980s hit movie Tron as a buzzy marketing strategy.” The character would have been a sidekick of Kevin Flynn (Jeff Bridges), but the idea didn’t move forward because the executives were told “that the company couldn’t risk the bad publicity.“

Tron: Ares stars Jared Leto as Ares, a highly sophisticated Program sent from the digital world into the real world on a dangerous mission, marking humankind’s first encounter with AI beings.

The most stylish, disturbing crime series you’re (probably) not watching
Image
‘Hannibal’ aired on network TV, but it always felt like a streaming show.

Prime Video has made a name for itself with bold, bloody hits like “The Boys,” but there’s another, much darker (and just as bloodstained) show you might have missed. “Hannibal” somehow aired on network TV, and it’s still one of the wildest, most hypnotic dramas I’ve ever seen. Stylish, disturbing, and kind of beautiful in a way that feels totally wrong, this show centers on a charming upper-crust cannibal who eats people with impeccable manners… and somehow you can’t look away. It’s a cult favorite for a reason, and now that all three seasons are streaming on Prime Video, it’s time more people gave this twisted masterpiece the attention it deserves.

Best under-the-radar drama TV show on Prime Video

Why is ‘Hannibal’ underrated?

Image
Ben Affleck jumped back into action earlier this year with his acclaimed, high-octane new sequel, The Accountant 2, pairing him up with Jon Bernthal for a bigger and badder adventure for Christian Wolff. Next month, though, Hulu subscribers will be able to look back on one of the actor's best films that earned Best Picture honors at the Academy Awards for its story of a CIA agent posing as a film producer in an attempt to rescue six Americans. Released in 2012, the smash hit also paired him up with an ensemble packed with massive stars, from Breaking Bad's Bryan Cranston to Bosch's Titus Welliver. The historical political spy thriller Argo is one of several new films coming to the Disney-owned streaming service starting on August 1.

Why Has Liam Neeson Been Single for 16 Years: Is He Really Dating Pamela Anderson?
Image
Liam Neeson’s love life has reportedly been a quiet affair for the past 16 years, an extended pause following the tragic loss of his wife, Natasha Richardson, in 2009. Yet now, rumors of a new romance have stirred the tabloids, linking the 73-year-old actor to none other than Pamela Anderson, his co-star in the upcoming reboot of The Naked Gun. Last year, Neeson sang high praises for Anderson’s professionalism and their undeniable on-screen chemistry. Speaking to People, he said:

With Pamela, first off, I’m madly in love with her. She’s just terrific to work with. I can’t compliment her enough, I’ll be honest with you. No huge ego. She just comes in to do the work. She’s funny and so easy to work with.

After more than a decade of solitude following Richardson’s passing, Neeson revealed in last year’s People interview, “No, in a word.

Jeff Bridges Jokes About Tron: Ares Star Jared Leto's Method Acting During Filming
Image
Jared Leto appears to still be embracing his well-known method acting style, a practice that drew plenty of attention during his time on Suicide Squad. But this time around, and luckily for the Tron: Ares cast, Leto wasn't playing someone as menacing and disgusting as the Joker.

During the film’s San Diego Comic-Con panel, Leto’s co-star Jeff Bridges shared a humorous story about their time working together. In his usual laid-back drawl, Bridges remarked, “He’s one of those guys. Everyone has different methods and modes, man.”

The crowd laughed as Bridges continued with a light jab: “I didn’t want to offend him as a thespian, but I thought, ‘I wanted to have a certain intimacy with you. I know your name is Ares. Can I just call you Air?’ He said, ‘Yeah man! You can call me whatever you want!’ We had a great time.

The Town – Ben Affleck’s gritty 2010 heist thriller – is about to find a new streaming home. With a stellar 92% score on Rotten Tomatoes and an 85% audience rating,The Town is often cited as one of the best crime thrillers of the 2010s. It stars Welliver alongside Affleck and Jeremy Renner, both of whom have gone on to anchor major franchises in the DC and Marvel universes, respectively. Why ‘Tron’ creator isn’t bitter over film’s notorious Oscar snub: ‘We created our own genre’
Image
With Marvel Mia from San Deigo Comic-Con, Disney pulled out all stops for its Tron: Ares panel. Dazzling light show. Eye-popping clips from the movie. A new Nine Inch Nails music video. A stacked lineup of Jeff Bridges, Jared Leto, Greta Lee, Gillian Anderson, Evan Peters, Jodie Turner-Smith, Hasan Minhaj, Arturo Castro, and Cameron Monaghan, along with director Joachim Rønning, and creator-producer Steven Lisberger, who wrote and directed the original, with certified nerd Kevin Smith moderating.

As Smith pointed out from the jump, the original Tron’s influence far outweighed its meager box office in 1982, a year where the sci-fi film was overshadowed by the likes of E.T., Blade Runner, Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, Poltergeist, and The Road Warrior. “It was a visionary science-fiction motion picture that wasn’t appreciated in its time,” Smith said. Indeed, Tron’s pioneering use of computer graphics and concept of the Grid,...

‘Tron: Ares’: Disney Sans Marvel Dazzles Hall H With Laser Light Show, Jared Leto And Jeff Bridges – Comic-Con
Image
No, Dr. Doom didn’t show up at this year’s Comic-Con. But Disney sure as hell brought the dazzle with a laser light show that one-upped what they pulled off at CinemaCon, complete with a Tron: Ares logo in full neon red and two Tron-like warriors marching to the front of the stage.

“Did you see that entrance?” asked moderator Kevin Smith, “That cost more than Clerks!“

At the panel were director Joachim Rønning with stars Jared Leto, Evan Peters, Arturo Castro, Gillian Anderson, Cameron Monaghan, Jodie Turner-Smith, Greta Lee, and Jeff Bridges who reprises his role as Kevin Flynn, the programmer from the original 1982 movie who gets caught in his own videogame. Leto drew big cheers from the crowd, as did Bridges.

In the third Tron movie, a highly sophisticated program, Ares (played by Oscar winner Leto) is sent from the digital world into the real world on a dangerous mission.

The Salt Path True Story: What Is The Controversy Around Raynor Winn, And Her Husband?
Image
Director Marianne Elliott’s searing drama The Salt Path has made quite the noise upon its UK release, and with its US release about to happen, the movie is certain to draw more attention. That’s only natural given it stars forever beloved American star Gillian Anderson and amazing Brit actor, Jason Isaacs, who is also on a career high thanks to his recent role in HBO’s The White Lotus, for which he has received an Emmy nomination. More importantly, The Salt Path is based on the best-selling novel by Raynor Winn, and it is the unbelievable true story about Raynor and her husband Moth taking a 600-mile-long walk through the Southern English coast after losing their family home.

Except, all is not well in the world of The Salt Path, mainly thanks to an article that came out in the Observer magazine very recently. According to that article,...

The Salt Path Movie Ending Explained: What Happens To Raynor And Moth?
Image
The Salt Path, directed by Marianne Elliott, is based on one of the most riveting human stories you’d ever hear—a middle-aged couple deciding to take a six-hundred-mile-long walk through the Southern coast of England after losing their home and everything. What makes it trickier is one half of the couple, Moth Winn, having been diagnosed with CBD. This is a true story, by the way, and the movie is adapted from the book (also called “The Salt Path”), written by Moth’s wife, Raynor. Moth and Raynor are played by two of the UK’s most solid working actors, Jason Isaacs and Gillian Anderson. They’re expectedly brilliant in their respective roles. And the film is quite alright. It does follow your usual inspiring story template and doesn’t really have much cinematic flair, but it is still a decent watch. But there’s an issue. Raynor has been recently accused of embezzlement.

Now, 15 years later, Joachim Rønning is picking up the bright neon torch to push the envelope once again with Tron: Ares, a movie that's set to see worlds collide as, for the first time in the franchise's history, we're not heading to the Grid — the Grid's heading for us. The official trailer for "Tron: Ares" is here, and it has quite a bit going for it. Like both of its predecessors, "Tron" and "Tron: Legacy," however, it appears that there are two very important elements driving "Tron: Ares" — its soundtrack and its neon-soaked visuals. Despite being snubbed for an Oscar nomination (because the Academy thought using a computer for visual effects was "cheating" back in 1982), "Tron" helped blow the lid off of what can be done in special effects and paved the way for more computer-generated imagery (CGI) in movies and TV. It only makes sense, then, that its sequels would also be visually stunning, and "Legacy" absolutely nailed the assignment back in 2010. So, what about "Ares"?

Based on the film's trailer (see above), which features all kinds of cool visuals with lots of neon-streaked vehicles and armor, "Ares" is going to take the stellar visuals of the "Tron...

Ben Affleck’s $103 Million Action Sequel Outperformed the Original and Is Now a Global Streaming Hit
Image
Ben Affleck’s hit action sequel landed in theaters everywhere earlier this year, and after earning over $100 million at the box office, the film has found even more success on streaming. Affleck stars alongside Jon Bernthal in The Accountant 2, the action thriller following Christian Wolff (Affleck) and his brother Braxton (Bernthal), a dynamic duo who use their unique skills to try to figure out who killed Ray King (J.K. Simmons). The Accountant 2 has been streaming on Prime Video for over a month now, and the film is still in the top 10 in more than 25 countries around the world. Although the sequel grossed $50 million less than the original, it did earn higher scores on Rotten Tomatoes, including a “certified fresh” 79% from critics and a “verified hot” 92% from audiences.

There has been speculation about what could have caused The Accountant 2 to fall so short of the original at the...

Sex Education Gave Maeve Amnesia to Make One Character Look Like a Real Option
Image
While some might consider Otis and Ruby as the best couple in Sex Education, Otis was always meant to be with Maeve. In the final stretch, though, Maeve seemed to have forgotten one of the show’s most defining betrayals. The move felt like character regression to many angry fans online.

As a show about teenage s*xual discovery and positivity, the series often ignored the emotional stakes and character development. Maeve forgiving Isaac and dating him is an arc that is not sitting right with some viewers. And as FandomWire’s Sex Education Season 4 review suggests, the show ultimately concluded the final season with a disappointing ending. This seems to be a recurring theme. Let’s dissect why this plot felt more like narrative manipulation than natural progression.

Maeve Forgiving Issac in Sex Education Was a Major Letdown

Titus Welliver’s $154 Million Crime Thriller With a Taylor Sheridan Fan-Favorite Is Leaving Streaming Soon
Image
Titus Welliver wrapped up the final season of Bosch: Legacy earlier this year, and although he’s due to feature in several episodes of the Ballard spin-off, another older project from the star has become a surprising streaming hit. Welliver stars alongside Jeremy Renner (Mayor of Kingstown) and Ben Affleck (Argo) in The Town, the classic crime thriller following a group of thieves who rob a bank and hold the manager hostage. The Town is currently streaming on Netflix. Unfortunately, after a run of streaming success, the streamer has confirmed that the last day to watch the film will be on July 31. The Town earned strong scores of 92% from critics and 85% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes, and it grossed a whopping $154 million at the global box office against a modest $37 million budget.

The Town comes from the mind of Ben Affleck, who has won Oscars for Screenwriting (Good Will Hunting...

X-Files Star Needed To Call Out A Massive Mulder Plot Hole During Filming: "I Can't Actually Do That"
Image
The X-Files star David Duchovny needed to call out a massive Mulder plot hole in The X-Files season 1. The mystery series, created by Chris Carter, has developed a loyal following since debuting. Originally airing for nine seasons and releasing multiple feature films, The X-Files was revived from 2016 to 2018.

X-Files Star David Duchovny Recalls Questioning Chris Carter Over Continuity Errors With the Show
Image
The X-Filesstar David Duchovny explains what piece of lore he called out creator Chris Carter over.

Per TVInsider, Duchovny opened up about calling Chris Carter out on the set of The X-Files early on when what seemed like a key continuity error became a main plot point. Duchovny discussed the episode "Fire," which dealt heavily with his Agent Mulder's crippling fear of fire, which hadn't been an issue in previous episodes. "I remember, like, in the middle of the episode, I had this thought," Duchovny said. "I think I went up to Chris Carter, who wrote that episode, I believe, and I said, 'Didn't Mulder and Scully [Gillian Anderson] watch a building burn down in the pilot? And I think Mulder was fairly cool with it. You know, it didn't bother him.'"

Duchovny went on to discuss his personal "pet peeve" of inexperienced The X-Files writers having inaccurate takes on his character.

David Duchovny Recalls Pointing Out ‘X-Files’ Continuity Error to Creator Chris Carter
Image
David Duchovny said he was the “curator” of FBI Special Agent Fox Mulder, his character on the hit sci-fi series The X-Files, and he even had to tell creator Chris Carter about a continuity error on the Fox drama. In a new episode of his Fail Better podcast, Duchovny and Bones star Emily Deschanel discussed how they sometimes knew their characters better than the writers of the shows. And Duchovny related an anecdote from filming “Fire,” a first-season X-Files episode in which Mulder confronts a debilitating fear of fire while pursuing a serial arsonist. “I remember, like, in the middle of the episode, I had this thought,” the actor said. “I think I went up to Chris Carter — who wrote that episode, I believe — and I said, ‘Didn’t Mulder and Scully [Gillian Anderson] watch a building burn down in the pilot? And I think Mulder was fairly cool with it.

Harry Potter Star's New Movie Caught Up In Controversy As Producers Defend Adaptation
Image
Producers for Jason Isaacs' new movie, The Salt Path, have spoken out to defend the film in the wake of recent controversies surrounding the original book. Based on the best-selling 2018 memoir by Raynor Winn, the Harry Potter star is also joined by the X-Files and Sex Education star Gillian Anderson.

The Salt Path recounts the story of Winn and her husband, Moth, and their long-distance walk along the southwest English coastline after the couple lost their home and Moth was diagnosed with a fatal neurodegenerative condition. However, the authenticity of the background events in the book was recently called into question via an article in the British newspaper The Observer.

A spokesperson for Number 9 Films and Shadowplay Features released a statement to Entertainment Weekly, indicating that the ongoing issues surrounding the book are not their responsibility. Instead, the producers stated that there were no issues when the book was first...

New 'Tron: Ares' Images Tease Evan Peters and Gillian Anderson's Villains
Image
New images from Disney's Tron: Areshave entered The Grid… the Instagram grid, that is. The snaps caused quite a stir on social media as they turned the spotlight on two of the film's major villainous characters, who threaten to be even more evil than Jared Leto's titular antagonist in the highly anticipated third installment of the groundbreaking Tron franchise. Marvel favorite Evan Peters and The X-Files leading lady Gillian Anderson both feature in the photos, offering a better look at their roles as Julian and Elisabeth Dillinger, respectively.

Fans of the Tron saga will recognize the Dillinger name. Ed Dillinger (David Warner) was the ruthless head of Encom in Disney's 1982 film, while his son, Ed Jr. (Cillian Murphy), made a cameo appearance in the 2010 sequel Tron: Legacy. The Dillinger dynasty will live on in the third feature, Tron: Ares, as Peters steps out as Julian, a new addition to the family lineage,...

‘The Salt Path’ Fallout: Raynor Winn’s Next Book Delayed as Publisher Supports “Distressed” Author
Image
Raynor Winn’s next book has been delayed, her publisher confirmed, after an investigation has cast into doubt on the events of her best-selling memoir The Salt Path.

Winn’s story about her gruelling trek across the English coast with husband Moth has long-been considered a giant of the non-fiction genre. The sharp and poignant tale recounted the couple’s penniless journey across England after losing their home to a “bad investment,” and depicted the couple’s dependance on the kindness of strangers to keep going.

But after selling over two million copies since its March 2018 release and getting a film adaptation with Gillian Anderson and Jason Isaacs earlier this year, The Salt Path was all called into question over the weekend.

A report by U.K. outlet The Observer that published on Saturday said the Winn’s real names are Sally and Tim Walker, and that the repossession of their home was,...

What’s in a story?: Up until last Sunday, Gillian Anderson pic The Salt Path, a true-to-life underdog film about a couple made homeless who walk along a South England coastal path, was a local box office hit. Image
The author of the bestselling memoir that was adapted for Toronto festival hit The Salt Path issued a long statement Wednesday answering allegations about her book that were raised in a UK newspaper article. Raynor Winn says the report in The Observer this week “is grotesquely unfair, highly misleading and seeks to systematically pick apart my life.” See her full statement below.

The film, starring Gillian Anderson as Winn and Jason Isaacs as her ailing husband Moth Winn, the movie is an adaptation of a supposedly true-to-life book about the couple’s journey along the South of England coast after they lose their home and the husband is diagnosed with corticobasal syndrome, a rare progressive neurological disease.
