The Salt Path is getting a DVD and Blu-ray release in the UK this September, as questions about its story swirl.

On the surface, the box office success of The Salt Path in the UK was a welcome sign that there’s space on the big screen for dramas skewing towards an older audience. Also, for ‘grown up’ films, which can still persuade people to leave the house and sit in a cinema.

Starring Gillian Anderson and Jason Isaacs (hello), the success of The Salt Path movie happened just ahead of the, er, ‘further discussions’ about just how true the story at the heart of it is. An investigation by The Observer newspaper certainly put a very feral cat amongst some quite tetchy pigeons, and you can read that in full, here.

The modestly-costed film, directed by Marianne Elliott with a screenplay from Rebecca Lenkiewicz, was released by Black Bear in the UK.

Casting can be a tricky thing, and sometimes multiple performers would do a great job in a particular role, leading to a whole bunch of "what-ifs" from fans after the fact. In the case of the sprawling cast of the HBO epic fantasy series "Game of Thrones," based on the "A Song of Ice and Fire" series of books by George R. R. Martin, there were several cases of big-name stars who almost ended up playing one of the many characters in the world of Westeros. Vince Gilligan‘s work is known to each sci-fi fanatic out there. But, do you know about The X Files? It is a sci-fi that questions the difference between paranormal and science. Starring the enigmatic David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson, the series culminated in May 2002.

As for Gilligan, The X Files marked the start of his career in the sci-fi landscape. The esteemed visionary was considering and still is to revive the show even after a decade. In an interview with The Independent, Vince Gilligan quoted,

“The thought that there could be more episodes of The X Files is very exciting to me indeed.”

He further continued,

“If I knew I could do it, I would love to be a part of it, but even if I am not, you can know for a fact that I’ll be watching every episode and rooting them on, and being very much the fanboy that I started.

AI is here to stay, but how it should and shouldn’t be used is still a subject of much debate, particularly in the entertainment industry. According to a report from the Wall Street Journal (via Deadline), Disney had considered some ambitious ideas for using AI on several upcoming projects, including Tron: Ares and the live-action Moana movie.

According to WSJ sources, Disney executives “pitched the idea of actually incorporating AI into one of the characters in the sequel to the 1980s hit movie Tron as a buzzy marketing strategy.” The character would have been a sidekick of Kevin Flynn (Jeff Bridges), but the idea didn’t move forward because the executives were told “that the company couldn’t risk the bad publicity.“

Jeff Bridges is opening up about working with Jared Leto for Tron: Ares.

The two Oscar-winning actors appeared alongside co-stars Greta Lee, Jodie Turner-Smith, Evan Peters, Gillian Anderson, Hasan Minhaj, Arturo Castro, and Cameron Monaghan to promote their new Disney movie at the 2025 Comic-Con International on Friday (July 25) held at the San Diego Convention Center in San Diego, Calif.

During their panel, Jeff revealed what it was like working with Jared, who is a known method actor, on the movie.

Jeff Bridges and Jared Leto came to San Diego Comic-Con to promote the upcoming “Tron: Ares,” the third film in the sci-fi franchise, and as part of the presentation they treated the Hall H crowd to two clips featuring the iconic light cycles — plus a new music video from composer Trent Reznor’s Nine Inch Nails.

The footage shows Ares (Leto) and Athena (Jodie Turner-Smith) chasing Eve (Great Lee) in the film’s first light cycle chase that takes place in the real world. Eve manages to evade them and also manages to steal Athena’s light cycle in the process, much to her amazement.

In another clip, they previewed the immersive world of the grid in another chase sequence involving Ares and Eve trying to escape the grid into the transfer portal.

The final promo clip is the new music video for the film from Nine Inch Nails.

The Salt Path, directed by Marianne Elliott, is based on one of the most riveting human stories you’d ever hear—a middle-aged couple deciding to take a six-hundred-mile-long walk through the Southern coast of England after losing their home and everything. What makes it trickier is one half of the couple, Moth Winn, having been diagnosed with CBD. This is a true story, by the way, and the movie is adapted from the book (also called “The Salt Path”), written by Moth’s wife, Raynor. Moth and Raynor are played by two of the UK’s most solid working actors, Jason Isaacs and Gillian Anderson. They’re expectedly brilliant in their respective roles. And the film is quite alright. It does follow your usual inspiring story template and doesn’t really have much cinematic flair, but it is still a decent watch. But there’s an issue. Raynor has been recently accused of embezzlement.

The official trailer for "Tron: Ares" is here, and it has quite a bit going for it. Like both of its predecessors, "Tron" and "Tron: Legacy," however, it appears that there are two very important elements driving "Tron: Ares" — its soundtrack and its neon-soaked visuals. Despite being snubbed for an Oscar nomination (because the Academy thought using a computer for visual effects was "cheating" back in 1982), "Tron" helped blow the lid off of what can be done in special effects and paved the way for more computer-generated imagery (CGI) in movies and TV. Jared Leto is continuing being a franchise baddie. After starring as antihero Morbius in the MCU, plus playing the controversial WeWork founder, the actor is now joining the “Tron” digital universe as the titular villain of “Tron: Ares.”

Joachim Rønning (“The Young Woman and the Sea”) directs the third franchise film, which is written by Jesse Wigutow and Jack Thorne (“Adolescence”). Original lead Jeff Bridges returns, with Evan Peters, Jodie Turner-Smith, Greta Lee, Arturo Castro, Hasan Minhaj, Cameron Monaghan, and Gillian Anderson co-starring. The official synopsis reads: “‘Tron: Ares’ follows a highly sophisticated program, Ares, who is sent from the digital world into the real world on a dangerous mission, marking humankind’s first encounter with AI beings.”

The sci-fi franchise began in 1982 with Bridges playing a video game programmer who becomes trapped in the digital world. The sequel “Tron: Legacy” was released in 2010 with Garret Hedlund playing Bridges’ onscreen son; Joseph Kosinski directed.

The release of the new Nine Inch Nails song “As Alive As You Need Me To Be” was just a harbinger for a deeper look at Tron: Ares, which drew us fully back into the world first launched by the 1982 Disney film. In this new trailer, we see tech mogul Julian Dillinger (Evan Peters) explain his grand plan for a new army of programmable soldiers, one of which has the face of Jared Leto and a desire to discover if there’s more to life than flying around jet planes.

Today, Disney unveiled a brand-new trailer, poster, and images for Tron: Ares, the highly anticipated third installment in the groundbreaking Tron franchise, which opens in theaters on October 10. The visually splendiferous trailer features new music from industrial music icons Nine Inch Nails, who composed the film’s score. Today, the band dropped “As Alive As You Need Me To Be”—the soundtrack album’s first single and the band’s first official music video in five years. The Tron: Ares original motion picture soundtrack featuring all original music by Nine Inch Nails will be released on September 19 via Interscope Records. The release marks the first-ever film score by the pioneering band, although bandmates Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross have composed 20 scores under their own names, winning two Oscars, three Golden Globes, a Grammy, and an Emmy in the process.

Per TVInsider, Duchovny opened up about calling Chris Carter out on the set of The X-Files early on when what seemed like a key continuity error became a main plot point. Duchovny discussed the episode "Fire," which dealt heavily with his Agent Mulder's crippling fear of fire, which hadn't been an issue in previous episodes. "I remember, like, in the middle of the episode, I had this thought," Duchovny said. "I think I went up to Chris Carter, who wrote that episode, I believe, and I said, 'Didn't Mulder and Scully [Gillian Anderson] watch a building burn down in the pilot? And I think Mulder was fairly cool with it. You know, it didn't bother him.'"

Duchovny went on to discuss his personal "pet peeve" of inexperienced The X-Files writers having inaccurate takes on his character.

Producers for Jason Isaacs' new movie, The Salt Path, have spoken out to defend the film in the wake of recent controversies surrounding the original book. Based on the best-selling 2018 memoir by Raynor Winn, the Harry Potter star is also joined by the X-Files and Sex Education star Gillian Anderson.

The Salt Path recounts the story of Winn and her husband, Moth, and their long-distance walk along the southwest English coastline after the couple lost their home and Moth was diagnosed with a fatal neurodegenerative condition. Raynor Winn’s next book has been delayed, her publisher confirmed, after an investigation has cast into doubt on the events of her best-selling memoir The Salt Path.

Winn’s story about her gruelling trek across the English coast with husband Moth has long-been considered a giant of the non-fiction genre. The sharp and poignant tale recounted the couple’s penniless journey across England after losing their home to a “bad investment,” and depicted the couple’s dependance on the kindness of strangers to keep going.

But after selling over two million copies since its March 2018 release and getting a film adaptation with Gillian Anderson and Jason Isaacs earlier this year, The Salt Path was all called into question over the weekend.

What’s in a story?: Up until last Sunday, Gillian Anderson pic The Salt Path, a true-to-life underdog film about a couple made homeless who walk along a South England coastal path, was a local box office hit. Then, The Observer dropped a bombshell investigation, questioning multiple elements of the couple’s story and revealing that the author of the source material, Raynor Winn, was once arrested after being accused of stealing tens of thousands of pounds from her employer. What’s followed has been an almost nationwide debate around truth, fiction and just how far Raynor Winn was able to push the believability of her story.

The author of the bestselling memoir that was adapted for Toronto festival hit The Salt Path issued a long statement Wednesday answering allegations about her book that were raised in a UK newspaper article. Raynor Winn says the report in The Observer this week “is grotesquely unfair, highly misleading and seeks to systematically pick apart my life.” See her full statement below.
