7 ‘Die Hard’ Clones – And Why They Didn’t Work?
Image
“Die Hard” is a quintessential action film that redefined the genre across the late ‘80s, ‘90s, and beyond. So, it’s no surprise that every few years, studios try to recapture that 1988 lightning in a bottle—by straight-up ripping it off. Its success is owed to many things: tight writing, smart direction/cinematography, a stacked cast, and a messy but sincere charm. But admirers and imitators alike believe the secret lies in the formula. And what a formula it is. Start with an everyman, maybe a cop, but never a supercop. Drop them into an unwinnable situation against their will.

Give them personal stakes. Let them take out a parade of colorful henchmen one by one before reaching the final boss. Tag on a happy ending, and you’ve got an instant classic. Storytelling buffs might call this The Hero’s Journey. But if you add varied European terrorists, a breathtaking yet contained setting,...

“If you would have said the wrong thing, they would have killed you”: Real Reason the Gambino Crime Family Reportedly Used Steven Seagal As Target Practice
Image
Steven Seagal’s tough-guy persona wasn’t just for the movies; he reportedly had real-life run-ins with the mob. Back in the day, the Under Siege star found himself tangled with the infamous Gambino crime family, and it wasn’t a friendly encounter.

Per reports, the mob used him for target practice, though not in the way you’d expect. Instead of dodging bullets, Seagal was allegedly forced to sit still while gangsters tested his nerves.

Steven Seagal has faced plenty of bad guys in Under Siege and Above the Law, but his scariest villains weren’t on a movie set; they were real. Back in the ‘90s, the action star got tangled with the Gambino crime family, and they...

Bob Denver & Dawn Wells Reprised Their Gilligan's Island Roles On Baywatch
Image
In the "Baywatch" episode "Now Sit Right Back and You'll Hear a Tale", Eddie (Billy Warlock) and Shauni (Erika Eleniak) are out in the ocean trying to rescue a beleaguered jet skier, when they discover an island that they hadn't ever noticed before. Going ashore, they find that two people have been living on this island, stranded far from shore, for decades. They are Mary Ann (Dawn Wells) and Gilligan (Bob Denver), the same characters seen on the 1964 sitcom "Gilligan's Island."

Wait, what? Aren't those fictional characters? Gilligan and Mary Ann explain that their experiences being stranded on the uncharted desert isle are very much real. Shauni marvels, "I thought you were just a TV show!" But everyone sort of lets the unreality of the situation slip past. No further questions are asked about how Gilligan and Mary Ann were filmed or how their footage was converted into a 1964 CBS comedy series.

Gaining recognition for his Aikido expertise and incorporating his martial arts techniques in his on-screen characters, Steven Seagal had also earned a reputation for being difficult on film sets, with reports of less-than-pleasant behavior toward his cast and crew.

The Beverly Hillbillies: Irene Ryan Was Shockingly Young When She Played Granny
Image
When someone stumbles across a photo of Irene Ryan from the 1960s and then sees her character on The Beverly Hillbillies, one question springs to mind: "How old was Irene Ryan when she played Granny?" As a main character throughout the nine seasons of The Beverly Hillbillies, Daisy May Moses, better known as "Granny", was a fixture of '60s and '70s television. Jed's mother-in-law, Granny, is a shotgun-toting, mountain medicine-applying, short-tempered woman who has little patience for the easy, breezy lifestyles of Beverly Hills, California, and always makes sure to let everyone know she's a country girl at heart.

While The Beverly Hillbillies may be one of those '60s sitcoms lost to time and all the network television that came afterward, in the moment, it was hugely popular. Even with big names like Erika Eleniak as Ellie May and Buddy Ebsen as Jed, it's hard to...

The 12 Best Navy Seal Movies, Ranked
Image
Members of the armed services can and will argue amongst themselves, but in the minds of people and pop culture, Navy SEALs loom large as the picture of the United States' most elite military men. We can probably thank the fiction of Tom Clancy, and the fact that a Seal team that killed 9-11 mastermind Osama bin Laden, but Hollywood has been enamored with the special operations force for at least the last three decades. When a character in any movie is declared to be either a current or former Navy Seal, it's a given that they won't go down easily. When we discuss the most ruthless thing a U.S. president can do short of a nuclear strike, more often than not it's, "Send in Seal Team 6!"

While movies often take artistic license, it's fair to say that some of the movies featuring Navy SEALs are significantly more accurate than others,...

Michael Newman Dies: ‘Baywatch’ Actor Was 68
Image
Baywatch alum Michael Newman has died, 18 years after being diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease.

Newman died “from heart complications’ on Sunday, October 20, “surrounded by his family and friends,” his friend Matt Felker, who recently directed the Hulu docuseries After Baywatch: Moment in the Sun, confirmed to People.

Newman became known for his role as lifeguard Mike “Newmie” Newman in NBC’s Baywatch, in which he appeared in 150 episodes from 1989 to 2000. Newman was the only cast member on the show who was actually a lifeguard. He had worked as an L.A. County lifeguard for 20 years, beginning at age 10 as a Santa Monica Junior Lifeguard.

Baywatch, an action drama series about lifeguards who patrol the beaches of Los Angeles County and Hawaii, was canceled after one season on NBC but survived in syndication, eventually becoming the most-watched series worldwide with over 1.1 billion viewers. Created by Michael Berk, Douglas Schwartz and Gregory J. Bonann,...

Pamela Anderson Rejects Offer To Appear In ‘Baywatch’ Doc
Image
Hulu released a new documentary series, After Baywatch, which is a nostalgic treat for fans. The series looks at the extremely popular TV show and its stars. Many former stars showed up to discuss the series, its legacy, and how it affected their careers and lives. However, Pamela Anderson refused to take part in the series.

Here is what we know about the new Baywatch documentary and why Pamela Anderson chose not to contribute.

Pamela Anderson Refuses To Take Part In Baywatch Documentary

Most of the cast returned to talk about Baywatch, one of television’s most-watched shows. However, Pamela Anderson, one of the show’s true breakout stars, rejected all offers to return to participate in the interviews for the docuseries. Instead, the docuseries used footage from a “never-before-seen interview” with Anderson.

[Source: YouTube]There is no clear reason why Anderson chose not to participate. One source said there is...

‘Baywatch’ Doc: Alexandra Paul Says ’90s Show Was Ahead of Its Time in Giving Women Roles Equal to Men | Video
Image
Alexandra Paul, who played lifeguard Stephanie Holden on “Baywatch” from 1992 to 1997, is one of several original cast members of the much-maligned NBC drama who feels that the beach and bikini show didn’t get enough credit back in the day.

Paul reminisces about the Malibu beach series in Hulu’s four-episode docuseries “After Baywatch: Moment in the Sun,” along with fellow cast members Nicole Eggert, Erika Eleniak, David Chokachi, Carmen Electra, Jeremy Jackson, Traci Bingham and Billy Warlock.

In a video interview with TheWrap, Paul said that “Baywatch” was ahead of its time for giving women’s characters equal importance as men.

“It actually was a show where the women had the exact same roles as the men. We had as many rescues as the men, we drove the boats like the men,” said Paul, citing how different that was from other ’90s movies or TV shows, where “women were...

‘Baywatch’ Stars Describe “Love-Hate Relationship” With Series
Image
The original Baywatch went off the air 25 years ago, yet it still processes a cultural ubiquity that eclipses arguably every other defunct TV series.

There was a brief spinoff and a panned movie (more of a spoof than a theatrical remake) and, just recently talk of a reboot. But no ancillary project has ever had the sway of the original: an infinitely exportable ode to a Southern California that never really existed, with its frequently recycled cast of hard-bodied Caucasians. So, at long last, it’s getting a documentary.

With participation from a great many former castmembers, including franchise face Pamela Anderson, After Baywatch: Moment in the Sun arrives Aug. 28 on Hulu. Many of them, including Traci Bingham and Erika Eleniak but not Anderson, appeared Wednesday afternoon in Pasadena to plug the project for TV press.

Seasons three and four star Nicole Eggert, of Charles in Charge fame, is the...

90s Horror Movies With Awful Reviews That Are Actually Worth Watching
Image
Ah, the 1990s. Perhaps the peak of the moviegoing experience. Theaters consistently showed classics such as the special effects marvel "Jurassic Park," "The Shawshank Redemption," "Terminator 2: Judgment Day," "Pulp Fiction," "Fargo," and "Titanic." The decade also featured an abundance of outstanding horror films like "The Sixth Sense," "Scream," "Misery," and "Interview with the Vampire," all boasting big-name stars and top-tier directors.

However, playing at the opposite end of the cineplex were thrillers you may have never heard about or skipped simply due to bad reviews or scathing word of mouth. Some of Hollywood's top talent attached themselves to such projects, thwarted by ornery critics or moviegoers seeking higher-end entertainment. That's a shame.

While there are undoubtedly plenty of terrible horror films from the 90s, the decade was also ripe with lower-tier entries that have aged surprisingly well. Many don't reset the bar established by esteemed pictures like "The Silence of the Lambs,...

‘The Blob’ Turns 35: Ranking the Remake’s Most Gruesome and Painful Kills
Image
Death is the ultimate leveler. It comes for everyone in the end, no matter your station in life. Never is that more unsettlingly apparent than in 1988’s The Blob, directed by Chuck Russell from a script he co-wrote with Frank Darabont. The creature feature lets loose a gelatinous pink blob of goo upon the small town of Arborville, California, where it wreaks havoc with its insatiable appetite. It doesn’t care about archetypical hero or villain roles; its sole aim is to devour.

The eponymous Blob acts as a giant slithering stomach, dissolving its food for digestion with extreme acidity. That means that not only is the body count high for this ever-growing creature, but the deaths are deliciously mean-spirited and unforgettable thanks to gruesome special makeup effects from Tony Gardner and an incredible team of artists. Russell and Darabont reinforce the SFX showcase with unpredictability and meticulous characterization to...

Reaching theatres just one year after Russell and Darabont brought us the awesome A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors, the Blob remake told the following story: In a tiny California town, high school students Brian, Meg, and Paul discover a strange, gelatinous substance that melts the flesh of any living creatures in its path. The deadly substance gets into the town’s sewer system,...

Blood from a Stone: Tales From The Crypt’s Bordello Of Blood 25 Years Later with Director Gilbert Adler
Image
The Tales from the Crypt TV series was coming to an end in 1996 with the last season airing from April–July. After seven successful years, the Crypt Keeper was saying goodbye to TV and hello to Hollywood. Things got off to a good start in 1995 with Demon Knight, the first of a proposed Tales from the Crypt trilogy.

This was soon followed by Bordello of Blood. The film centres on a private investigator who, after looking into a missing person’s case, discovers that the local funeral parlour is also a brothel populated with vampire prostitutes. The Pi teams up with the missing person’s sister and a charismatic reverend to take on the vampires and their beautiful and deadly leader, Lilith.

The film was released in theatres 25 years ago on 16th August, 1996. However, the film had a difficult and turbulent production that meant it didn’t quite have the same bite as its predecessor.

Jake Gyllenhaal is about to learn that all art is dangerous. He has re-teamed with his Nightcrawler director for something entirely frightening and original. Netflix invites you to watch Velvet Buzzsaw, which exclusively hits the streaming service on February 1, 2019.

Velvet Buzzsaw is a thriller set in the contemporary art world scene of Los Angeles where big money artists and mega-collectors pay a high price when art collides with commerce. ‘Boone: The Bounty Hunter’ Review
Stars: John Hennigan, Osric Chau, Kevin Sorbo, Spencer Grammar, Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson, Jonathan Lipnicki, Dominque Swain, Lorenzo Lamas, Richard Tyson, Jane Park Smith | Written by John Hennigan, Josh Burnell, Franco Movsesian, Jonathan Perkins | Directed by Robert Kirbyson

Boone, a fame-seeking reality show Bounty Hunter (think a douchier version of TV’s Dog the Bounty Hunter) gets carried away in his role and tries to bring down a drug lord and his empire. But when his quest for accolades ends with a bounty on his own head, Boone learns that serving justice is a heck of a lot more dangerous than just ratings.

Apparently conceived by star John Hennigan some five years ago, Boone: The Bounty Hunter has been a labour of love for the wrestler and actor ever since, with Hennigan eventually funding the film himself – no doubt through the money he earned wresting for the likes of Lucha Underground...

‘Baywatch’ Origin Story: How One Lifeguard Turned His Dream Into A Hassle That Paid Hoff
Pamela Anderson, Yasmine Bleeth, Alexandra Paul, David Hasselhoff, David Chokachi, Gena Lee Nolin, and Jaason Simmons in Baywatch (1989)
Gregory Bonann was a lifeguard at Will Rogers State Beach in 1977 when he helped two children who were caught in a riptide. That rescue would ultimately change his life – and the face of television, setting the stage for the eventual “Baywatch” juggernaut.

Now, with the new feature adaptation of “Baywatch” in theaters this weekend, it’s time to revisit the unusual story of how the lifeguard show made it on the air – ultimately producing 242 episodes before ending its run in 2001.

It all started because it turns out Bonnan had saved the children of Stu Erwin, an executive at Mtm – the independent production company behind series like “The Mary Tyler Moore Show” and “The Bob Newhart Show,” and run by legendary exec Grant Tinker.

While visiting Mtm’s offices in Studio City, Bonann pitched Erwin on a drama about lifeguards. The company passed, but Bonann took the opportunity to learn all about the TV biz.

Henry Thomas and Pat Welsh in E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial (1982)
Harrison Ford's Deleted E.T. Cameo Details Revealed
Henry Thomas and Pat Welsh in E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial (1982)
Even some of the biggest fans of E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial aren't aware of Harrison Ford's cameo. And for good reason, as it was cut from the finished movie. But now the true story behind this legendary missing footage is being told by those who were there, and it all comes courtesy of Entertainment Weekly and their annual reunion issue.

You might think to yourself, where could Harrison Ford have shown up in E.T.? Was he Dee Wallace Stone's unseen Halloween date? Was he part of the research team? No. He was supposed to be part of the iconic frog escape that comes midway through the movie. Alas, his role in this scene has gone unseen for over thirty years.

The scene itself is notable for including a cameo from future Baywatch babe Erika Eleniak, whom Elliot gets to kiss. But when it came time to shoot the scene,...

Summer is coming in revealing Baywatch movie motion posters
Author: David Sztypuljak

What’s better than the multitude of posters released for the Baywatch movie released last week……? That’s right….. the same posters in motion form! Yesterday we had the same treat for Disney’s Beauty and the Beast but today it’s the turn of The Rock, Zac Efron and their co-stars to strut their funky stuff in their Baywatch getup!

The tone of this new movie seems to be very similar to what we’ve seen in the likes of similar reboots of 21 Jump Street with a theme mocking the original for its faults but equally embracing what made the shows so successful.

Late 80s / 90s TV show Baywatch is show like no other – at the time was the most watched across the globe and making household names the likes of David Hasselhoff (who admittedly was already a star...

Which of These Actresses Should Play the 'Baywatch' Leading Lady?
We already know that Dwayne Johnson and Zac Efron are set to star in a big-screen version of Baywatch, the iconic television show that immortalized David Hasselhof and an army of good-looking lifeguards wearing well-fitting swimsuits while running in slow motion on a California beach. But who will snare the female lead for the movie, to be directed by Seth Gordon (Horrible Bosses)? The original TV show featured women in prominent roles, including Pamela Anderson, Erika Eleniak, Yasmine Bleeth, and Alexandra Paul. Since Efron was added this past August, several names have already been floated: Kelly Brook, Kate Upton, and Charlotte McKinney. The plot is said to revolve around a by-the-book lifeguard (Johnson) who is teamed with a "rule-flouting hothead" (Efron) to save...

A Two Coreys Halloween: The Essential Horror Movies of Haim and Feldman

On October 29, just two days before Halloween, St. Martin's Press will release the long-awaited Corey Feldman biography Coreyography: A Memoir. It is a must-read for any fan, as it delves deep into the trials and tribulations of this actor's young life in Hollywood. Some of it is funny, some of it is heartbreaking and a great big portion of it is truly scary.

In the book, Feldman talks in great length about his best friend Corey Haim. In the coming weeks, you'll hear a lot about what happened to the two teenagers behind closed doors, and a lot of it's not that pleasant. Instead of dwelling on that in our own review, we'd rather look at the work Haim and Corey Feldman have left behind. Specifically, in honor of the season, their horror movies. The pair met on...

Mena Suvari, Jason Biggs, Alyson Hannigan, Chris Klein, Natasha Lyonne, Thomas Ian Nicholas, Tara Reid, Seann William Scott, and Eddie Kaye Thomas in American Pie (1999)
30 Most Memorable Nude Scenes in Movies
Mena Suvari, Jason Biggs, Alyson Hannigan, Chris Klein, Natasha Lyonne, Thomas Ian Nicholas, Tara Reid, Seann William Scott, and Eddie Kaye Thomas in American Pie (1999)
Nude scenes.

Some years ago, Entertainment Weekly did a story about the effect nude scenes had on a generation of young people growing up in the 80s. At its core was the idea that, unlike today, where you can just press a button and see boobs and butts any time you want, it used to be a lot harder to see that most 'holy of holies'.

There was a time when some of the scenes on this list were all that we had! As time has gone on, even with the proliferation of ways to see nudity, a really good nude scene still manages to get our hearts (and other things) racing. Even here in 2013.

So feast your eyes on (maybe not the best, or greatest but...) the Top 30 Most Memorable Nude Scenes in motion picture history over the past couple of decades. Sorry ladies, this list is quite male specific.
